| 1 | Enhanced Antibacterial Activity of Bifunctional Fe_(3)O_(4)-Ag Core-Shell Nanostructures显示文摘We describe a simple one-pot thermal decomposition method for the production of a stable colloidal suspension of narrowly dispersed superparamagnetic Fe_(3)O_(4)-Ag core-shell nanostructures.These biocompatible nanostructures are highly toxic to microorganisms.Antimicrobial activity studies were carried out on both Gram negative(Escherichia coli and Proteus vulgaris)and Gram positive(Bacillus megaterium and Staphylococcus aureus)bacterial strains.Efforts have been made to understand the underlying molecular mechanism of such antibacterial actions.The effect of the core-shell nanostructures on Gram negative strains was found to be better than that observed for silver nanoparticles.The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)values of these nanostructures were found to be considerably lower than those of commercially available antibiotics.We attribute this enhanced antibacterial effect of the nanostructures to their stability as a colloid in the medium,which modulates the phosphotyrosine profile of the bacterial proteins and arrests bacterial growth.We also demonstrate that these core-shell nanostructures can be removed from the medium by means of an external magnetic field which provides a mechanism to prevent uncontrolled waste disposal of these potentially hazardous nanostructures. | Bhupendra Chudasama Anjana K.Vala Nidhi Andhariya R.V.Upadhyay R.V.Mehta | 2009 | Nano Research2009,2,12: | 17 |
| 2 | Effects of mother tree ages, different rooting mediums, light conditions and auxin treatments on rooting behaviour of Dalbergia sissoo branch cuttings显示文摘Dalbergia sissoo Roxb. is one of the promising multipurpose tree species of South Asia. Most of the plantations of D. sissoo from seeds are facing severe threats due to the die-back disease, which ultimately causes death of this potential tree-species within a few months. Vegetative propagation could avoid the die-back disease. Thirty mother trees of different age-groups of D. sissoo were selected for evaluating the rooting behaviour of branch cuttings from D. sissoo as influenced by auxins (IAA or IBA at 100, 200, 500 mg·L-1), ages of mother trees (10, 4 and 2 years old) and different environment conditions, i.e., different mediums (soil and sand) or light conditions (in shade and open condition). The results show that application of IAA and IBA induced more numbers of cuttings (collected from 10-year-old mother trees) to root compared to control. Branch cuttings of D. sissoo collected from 10-year-old mother trees and planted in soil bed in open conditions had 100.0% of cuttings to root in IAA (100 mg·L-1) and IBA (200 mg·L-1) treatments. Both rooting medium (Soil and sand) influenced significantly (p<0.05) on rooting response of branch cuttings. | 3 | The effect of laser surface texturing on the tribological performance of different Sialon ceramic phases显示文摘A tribological performance was carried out on different types of hot press Sialon ceramics regarding the phases, i.e., the α-Sialon phase, the β-Sialon phase, and the α/β-Sialon composite phase. The different phases of Sialon ceramics were analyzed by XRD patterns. For the tribological performance, the Sialon ceramics were laser textured and the starved lubrication method was applied with different dimple pitches under a load of 10 N at room temperature. The material having a dimple pitch of 200 mm shows the lowest coefficient of friction. The α/β-Sialon composite phase shows the least coefficient of friction i.e. 0.04 and 0.1 for the textured and polished(without being textured) samples, respectively. The Sialon ceramics show mild wear and therefore, the wear rate of the steel ball(mating partner) was taken into account for the wear analysis. | 4 | Synergistic Effect of Metal Nanoparticles on the Antimicrobial Activities of Antibiotics against Biorecycling Microbes显示文摘Biorecycling microbes,which have critical functionalities in natural cycles,are essential to sustain ecosystem of the earth.Any alterations in these cycles caused by the mutations of microbes could be a potential threat to life on earth.Antibiotics leached from pharmaceutical waste,animal food and agribusiness products are accumulating in the environment.Metal nanoparticles are also accumulating in environment because of their extensive use as biocidal agent in domestic products.Interaction of antibiotics and metal nanoparticles with eco-friendly microorganisms has a potential to alter the ecosystem of the earth.In this article,we have studied the antibacterial activities of silver and copper nanoparticles and their formulations with antibiotics,tetracycline,and kanamycin against biorecycling microbes,Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescens.Strong synergistic effect of metal nanoparticles on the antimicrobial activities of commercial antibiotics has been observed.Antimicrobial activity of tetracycline improves by 286%–346% and 0%–28% when being tested in the presence of 250 ppm of silver and copper nanoparticles,respectively.For kanamycin,the improvement is 154%–289% for silver and 3%–20% for copper nanoparticles.Irrespective of the antibiotics and tested organisms,synergy is more prominent for silver nanoparticles even at their minimum active concentration(100 ppm).This study demonstrates that the combination of metal nanoparticles with antibiotics could be more fatal to ecosystem than either the metal nanoparticles or the antibiotics alone. | Chandni Khurana Purnima Sharma O.E Pandey Bhupendra Chudasama | 2016 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,6: | 5 |
| 5 | 温度和光周期对两种瓢虫捕食习性和发育的影响(英文)显示文摘【目的】在农业上,气候变化影响作物产量、蚜虫动态以及捕食性瓢虫对蚜虫的调节作用。一些瓢虫为广布种,而另一些瓢虫种类却只在特定地理范围内分布,而有关气候因子如何影响瓢虫分布了解甚少。【方法】评价不同温度(15℃,20℃,25℃,30℃和35℃)和光周期(8L∶16D,12L∶12D和16L∶8D)对两种瓢虫[七星瓢虫Coccinella septempunctata(Linnaeus)(一种广布种)和狭臀瓢虫Coccinella transversalis Fabricius(一种东方/南亚瓢虫)]幼虫取食和利用豌豆蚜Acyrthosiphon pisum(Harris)的影响。【结果】尽管两种瓢虫的捕食作用和发育速率均在25℃时最高,但是随着日长的增加(即光周期从8L∶16D增加到16L∶8D)捕食作用进一步增强。与狭臀瓢虫相比,在所有温度和光周期下,七星瓢虫幼虫的取食量更高,生长和发育速率更快,其新羽化的成虫体重更重。非线性回归模型显示,七星瓢虫和狭臀瓢虫的最低发育温度分别为11℃和10.5℃左右,最高发育温度分别为41℃和43℃左右。狭臀瓢虫的幼虫捕食和发育速率对气候因子的依赖性强于七星瓢虫。【结论】本研究表明,广布种瓢虫对气候因子的敏感性比土著种瓢虫弱,因而可以广泛分布于不同的地理区域。因此,与土著种瓢虫相比,广布种瓢虫更适于作为生防因子。 | OMKAR Bhupendra KUMAR | 2016 | 昆虫学报2016,59,1: | 5 |
| 6 | An overview on metal-related catalysts: metal oxides, nanoporous metals and supported metal nanoparticles on metal organic frameworks and zeolites显示文摘Metal nanoparticles(NPs) supported on porous materials have shown great advantages in many catalytic application fields. Supported metal NPs are receiving extensive attention due to their significant contribution in a wide range of current and future applications, and this is arguably one of the fastest growing research fields. In this review, we highlight various types of metal catalysts that possess great potential in several catalytic reactions. The major focus has been on metal oxides, nanoporous metals and metal NPs supported on metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) and zeolites. Special attention has been given to the synthesis strategies and application of the NPs supported on MOFs and zeolites, which are considered highly interesting and rapidly expanding areas in heterogeneous catalysis. | 7 | Graphene-based flexible and wearable electronics显示文摘Graphene with an exceptional combination of electronic, optical and outstanding mechanical features has been proved to lead a completely different kind of 2-D electronics. The most exciting feature of graphene is its ultra-thin thickness, that can be conformally contacted to any kind of rough surface without losing much of its transparency and conductivity. Graphene has been explored demonstrating various prototype flexible electronic applications, however, its potentiality has been proven wherever transparent conductive electrodes(TCEs) are needed in a flexible, stretchable format. Graphene-based TCEs in flexible electronic applications showed greatly superior performance over their conventionally available competitor indium tin oxide(ITO). Moreover, enormous applications have been emerging, especially in wearable devices that can be potentially used in our daily life as well as in biomedical areas. However, the production of high-quality, defect-free large area graphene is still a challenge and the main hurdle in the commercialization of flexible and wearable products. | 8 | Luminescence properties of Eu^(2+),Gd^(3+) and Pr^(3+) doped translucent Sialon phosphors显示文摘Optical properties of hot pressed Sialon ceramics doped with different rare earth oxides(REOs) i.e. Eu2O3, Gd2O3, and Pr2O3 were investigated. The α-Sialon phase was the main phase obtained after sintering as observed by X-ray diffraction(XRD). The transparency of different samples of varying thickness measured from UV to IR region revealed that the samples were translucent in the visible region while transparent in IR region. The thin samples of 150 μm thickness had transmittance as high as 30% in the visible region. The luminescence was observed in transmittance mode to investigate the effect of sample thickness on luminescence intensity. We observed blue, yellow and red emissions in Sialon doped with Gd2O3, Eu2O3, and Pr2O3, respectively. The excitation wavelength for Gd2O3 and Pr2O3 doped samples were in UV region i.e. 280 and 270 nm, respectively, whereas, for Eu2O3 doped samples was in the blue region(460 nm). The Eu2O3 doped Sialon having 300 μm thickness showed better white light extraction as coupled with blue LED. | 9 | Effects of cutting types and hormonal concentration on vegetative propagation of Zanthoxylum armatum in Garhwal Himalaya,India显示文摘Experiments were carried out to define the effects of hormonal concentrations on semi-hard wood(SHW) and hard-wood(HW) branch cuttings of the Z.armatum. SHW and HW cuttings were collected in the month of March. The SHW and HW cuttings were treated with different concentration of indole-3-acetic acid and indole-3-butyric acid(IAA and IBA) and placed in vermiculite rooting medium for 90 days under 1-min misting after 10 min. Sprouting, rooting percentage, sprout number, sprout length, root number, and length were measured.The highest rooting and sprouting rate, 64.0 %, was obtained at the 0.3 % IBA treatment in the SHW cuttings.Similarly sprout length and number of roots per cutting were also higher at the 0.3 % IBA treatment in the SHW cuttings. The number of shoots per cutting was higher at the 0.3 % IAA treatment in the SHW cuttings. Root length per cutting was higher in 0.4 % IBA treatment in the SHW cuttings. The results indicated that 0.3 and 0.4 % IBA treatment produce higher rooting percentages as well as the number of roots and their length in SHW cuttings. The HW cuttings produced maximum rate of 18.0 % rooting in0.5 % IBA treatment. | 11 | 捕食性瓢虫的体型大小影响其偏好捕食防御性强的猎物吗?(英文)显示文摘【目的】尽管瓢虫表现出种间和种内特异性体型大小的变异,但是瓢虫体型大小的变异是否会改变其选择捕食防御性强(即表现出各种防御反应,包括积极躲避捕食、挣脱捕食者或频繁利用防御性化学物质)的猎物,这一问题尚不清楚。本研究中,我们假设不论体型大小,捕食性瓢虫七星瓢虫Coccinella septempunctata(L.)和六斑月瓢虫Menochilus sexmaculatus(Fab.)都将增加其对猎物萝卜蚜Lipaphis erysimi(Kaltenbach)的捕食,只要猎物处于防御性强的龄期,原因是处于防御性强的龄期的猎物体型大且更有活力。【方法】我们将萝卜蚜4龄若虫期作为防御性强的龄期,将2龄若虫期作为防御性弱的龄期,评价七星瓢虫和六斑月瓢虫这两种瓢虫的大型和小型变异体对萝卜蚜的偏好性。【结果】结果表明,六斑月瓢虫的大型和小型雌性变异体更多地捕食防御性弱的萝卜蚜,而七星瓢虫的大型和小型雌性变异体分别对防御性强和防御性弱的萝卜蚜捕食较多。在混合饲料上,七星瓢虫雌性变异体对两类蚜虫的捕食百分比相似,而六斑月瓢虫变异体对防御性弱的萝卜蚜的捕食百分比较高。尽管随着七星瓢虫雌虫体型的增大而对两类猎物的捕食增多,但随着六斑月瓢虫雌虫体型的增大,只对防御性强的蚜虫的捕食量增加。【结论】本研究结果与我们的假设相反,并证明了:(1)小型瓢虫更多地只是捕食防御性弱的猎物,而大型瓢虫选择性地捕食防御性强的猎物;(2)在瓢虫种内和种间,随着捕食者体型的增大,对防御性强的猎物的偏好性增加。可将这些结果用于瓢虫的室内大规模饲养,以提高对萝卜蚜的生物防治。 | Priya PATEL Bhupendra KUMAR Dinesh KUMAR | 2018 | 昆虫学报2018,61,6: | 2 |
| 12 | Investigation of anticancer potencies of newly generated Schiff base imidazolylphenylheterocyclic-2-ylmethylenethiazole-2-amines显示文摘A new series of multi-heterocyclic Schiff base was constructed starting from 4'-(imidazol-1-yl[56_TD$IF])-acetophenone which was converted to its 2-bromoethanone precursor which on cyclic condensation with thiourea yielded final thiazol-2-amine intermediate(3) to be reacted with substituted aldehydes to generate final imidazolylphenylheterocyclic-2-ylmethylenethiazole-2-amines(4a–4i). New Schiff base was investigated for their in vitro cytotoxic efficacies against a panel of three human cancer cell lines namely, MCF7(human breast cancer), HCT116(human colon cancer), and DU145(human prostate cancer) and one normal skin fibroblast(SF). Most of these synthetic derivatives shown important cytotoxic actions against individual carcinoma cell line collections, but weak actions against SF, which is as anticipated. Observations of SAR suggested that the difference in the characteristics of substituents attached to the Schiff base function leads to the interesting variations within pharmacological effects of resultant molecular systems.
