| 7 | All-optical neuromorphic binary convolution with a spiking VCSEL neuron for image gradient magnitudes显示文摘All-optical binary convolution with a photonic spiking vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL) neuron is proposed and demonstrated experimentally for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. Optical inputs, extracted from digital images and temporally encoded using rectangular pulses, are injected in the VCSEL neuron, which delivers the convolution result in the number of fast(<100 ps long) spikes fired. Experimental and numerical results show that binary convolution is achieved successfully with a single spiking VCSEL neuron and that alloptical binary convolution can be used to calculate image gradient magnitudes to detect edge features and separate vertical and horizontal components in source images. We also show that this all-optical spiking binary convolution system is robust to noise and can operate with high-resolution images. Additionally, the proposed system offers important advantages such as ultrafast speed, high-energy efficiency, and simple hardware implementation, highlighting the potentials of spiking photonic VCSEL neurons for high-speed neuromorphic image processing systems and future photonic spiking convolutional neural networks. | YAHUI ZHANG JOSHUA ROBERTSON SHUIYING XIANG MATĚJ HEJDA JULIÁN BUENO ANTONIO HURTADO | 2021 | Photonics Research2021,9,5: | 4 |

| 9 | Ecological role of the giant root-rat(Tachyoryctes macrocephalus)in the Afroalpine ecosystem显示文摘Rodents with prevailing subterranean activity usually play an important role in the ecosystems of which they are a part due to the combined effect of herbivory and soil perturbation. This is the case for the giant root-rat Tachyoryctes macrocephalus endemic to the Afroalpine ecosystem of the Bale Mountains,Ethiopia. We studied the impact of root-rats on various ecosystem features within a 3.5-ha study locality dominated by Alchemilla pasture, which represents an optimal habitat for this species,in 2 periods of a year. The root-rats altered plant species composition, reducing the dominant forb,Alchemilla abyssinica, while enhancing Salvia merjame and a few other species, and reduced vegetation cover, but not the fresh plant biomass.Where burrows were abandoned by root-rats,other rodents took them over and A.abyssinica increased again.Root-rat burrowing created small-scale heterogeneity in soil compactness due to the backfilling of some unused burrow segments.Less compacted soil tended to be rich in nutrients, including carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus, which likely affected the plant growth on sites where the vegetation has been reduced as a result of root-rat foraging and burrowing. | JanŠKLÍBA Tereza VLASATÁ Matěj LÖVY Ema HROUZKOVÁ Yonas MEHERETU Claudio SILLERO-ZUBIRI RadimŠUMBERA | 2017 | Integrative Zoology2017,12,4: | 0 |
| 10 | Resolving the taxonomy of emerging zoonotic pathogens in the Trichophyton benhamiae complex显示文摘Species of the Trichophyton benhamiae complex are predominantly zoophilic pathogens with a worldwide distribution. These pathogens have recently become important due to their epidemic spread in pets and pet owners.Considerable genetic and phenotypic variability has been revealed in these emerging pathogens, but the species limits and host spectra have not been clearly elucidated. In this study,we used an approach combining phylogenetic analysis based on four loci,population-genetic data, phenotypic and physiological analysis, mating type gene characterization and ecological data to resolve the taxonomy of these pathogens. This approach supported the inclusion of nine taxa in the complex, including three new species and one new variety.Trichophyton benhamiae var.luteum var.nov.(“yellow phenotype”strains)is currently a major cause of zoonotic tinea corporis and capitis in Europe(mostly transmitted from guinea pigs). The isolates of the“white phenotype”do not form a monophyletic group and are segregated into three taxa,T.benhamiae var.benhamiae(mostly North America;dogs),T.europaeum sp.nov.(mostly Europe;guinea pigs),and T.japonicum sp.nov.(predominant in East Asia but also found in Europe;rabbits and guinea pigs). The new species T.africanum sp.nov.is proposed for the“African”race of T.benhamiae.The introduction to new geographic areas and host jump followed by extinction of one mating type gene have played important roles in the evolution of these pathogens.Due to considerable phenotypic similarity of many dermatophytes and phenomena such as incomplete lineage sorting or occasional hybridization and introgression,we demonstrate the need to follow polyphasic approach in species delimitation.Neutrally evolving and noncoding DNA regions showed significantly higher discriminatory power compared to conventional protein-coding loci.Diagnostic options for species identification in practice based on molecular markers, phenotype and MALDI-TOF spectra are presented.A microsatellite typing scheme developed in this study is a powerful tool for the epidemiological surveillance of these emerging pathogens. | AdélaČmoková Miroslav Kolařík Radim Dobiáš Lois L.Hoyer Helena Janouškovcová Rui Kano Ivana Kuklová Pavlína Lysková Lenka Machová Thomas Maier Naďa Mallátová Matěj Man Karel Mencl Pietro Nenoff Andrea Peano Hana Prausová Dirk Stubbe Silke Uhrlaß TomášVětrovský Cornelia Wiegand Vit Hubka | 2020 | Fungal Diversity2020,,5: | 0 |
