| 2 | Pyogenic liver abscess:An audit of 10 years’experience显示文摘AIM:To describe our own experience with pyogenic liver abscesses over the past 10 years and investigate the risk factors associated with failure of initial percutaneous therapy.METHODS:A retrospective study of records of 63 PLA patients presenting between 1998 and 2008 to Australian tertiary referral centre,were reviewed.Amoebic and hydatid abscesses were excluded.Demographic,clinical,radiological,and microbiological characteristics,as well as surgical/radiological interventions,were recorded.RESULTS:Sixty-three patients(42 males,21 females) aged 65(±14) years[mean±(SD) ]had prodromal symptoms for a median(interquartile range;IQR) of 7(5-14) d.Only 59%of patients were febrile at presentation;however,the serum C-reactive protein was elevated in all 47 in whom it was measured.Liver function tests were non-specifically abnormal.67%of patients had a solitary abscess,while 32%had>3 abscesses with a median(IQR) diameter of 6.3(4-9) cm.Causative organisms were:Streptococcus milleri 25%,Klebsiella pneumoniae 21%,and Escherichia coli 16%.A presumptive cryptogenic cause was most common (34%).Four patients died in this series:one from sepsis,two from advanced cancer,and one from acute myocardial infarction.The initial procedure was radiological aspiration±drainage in 54 and surgery in two patients.17%underwent surgical management during their hospitalization.Serum hypoalbuminaemia[mean (95%CI) :32(29-35) g/L vs 28(25-31) g/L,P=0.045] on presentation was found to be the only factor related to failure of initial percutaneous therapy on univariate analysis.CONCLUSION:PLA is a diagnostic challenge,because the presentation of this condition is non-specific.Intravenous antibiotics and radiological drainage in the first instance allows resolution of most PLAs;However,a small proportion of patients still require surgical drainage. | Tony CY Pang Thomas Fung Jaswinder Samra Thomas J Hugh Ross C Smith | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011，17，12： | 46 |

| 4 | Genetic association and epistatic interaction of the interleukin-10 signaling pathway in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘AIM To study the genetic association and epistatic interaction of the interleukin(IL)-10 and IL-10/STAT3 pathways in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease(IBD). METHODS A total of 159 pediatric inflammatory IBD patients(Crohn's disease,n = 136; ulcerative colitis,n = 23) and 129 matched controls were studied for genetic association of selected single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) of the IL-10 gene and the genes IL10 RA,IL10 RB,STAT3,and HO1,from the IL-10/STAT3 signaling pathway. As interactions between SNPs from different loci may significantly affect the associated risk for disease,additive(a) and dominant(d) modeling of SNP interactions was also performed to examine highorder epistasis between combinations of the individual SNPs. RESULTS The results showed that IL-10 rs304496 was associated with pediatric IBD(P = 0.022),but no association was found for two other IL-10 SNPs,rs1800872 and rs2034498,or for SNPs in genes IL10 RA,IL10 RB,STAT3,and HO1. However,analysis of epistatic interaction among these genes showed significant interactions:(1) between two IL-10 SNPs rs1800872 and rs3024496(additive-additive P = 0.00015,Bonferroni P value(Bp) = 0.003);(2) between IL-10 RB rs2834167 and HO1 rs2071746(dominant-additive,P = 0.0018,Bp = 0.039); and(3) among IL-10 rs1800872,IL10 RB rs2834167,and HO1 rs2071746(additivedominant-additive,P = 0.00015,Bp = 0.005),as well as weak interactions among IL-10 rs1800872,IL-10 rs3024496,and IL-10RA(additive-additive-additive,P = 0.003; Bp = 0.099),and among IL10 RA,IL10 RB,and HO1 genes(additive-dominant-additive,P = 0.008,Bp = 0.287).CONCLUSION These results indicate that both the IL-10 gene itself,and through epistatic interaction with genes within the IL-10/STAT3 signaling pathway,contribute to the risk of pediatric IBD. | Zhenwu Lin Zhong Wang John P Hegarty Tony R Lin Yunhua Wang Sue Deiling Rongling Wu Neal J Thomas Joanna Floros | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017，23，27： | 5 |
| 5 | 柔性直流输电并网风电厂的低电压穿越能力改进(英文)显示文摘To achieve active control of the AC voltage magnitude of wind power plant(WPP)collector network and improve the fault ride-through(FRT)capability,an FRT scheme based on feed forward DC voltage control is presented for voltage source converter-high voltage direct current(VSC-HVDC)connected offshore WPPs.During steady state operation,an open loop AC voltage control is implemented at the WPP-side VSC of the HVDC system so that any possible control interactions between WPP-side VSC and VSC of wind turbine are minimized.Whereas during any grid fault,a dynamic AC voltage reference is made according to both the DC voltage error and AC active current from the WPP collector system,thus ensuring fast and robust FRT of the VSC-HVDC-connected offshore WPPs.Under the unbalanced fault condition in the host power system,the resulting oscillatory DC voltage is directly used in the VSC AC voltage controller at the WPP side so that the WPP collector system voltage also reflects the unbalance in the main grid.Time domain simulations are performed to verify the efficacy of the FRT scheme based on the proposed feed forward DC voltage control.Simulation results show satisfactory FRT responses of the VSC-HVDC-connected offshore WPP under balanced and unbalanced faults in the host power system,as is shown under a serious fault in the WPP collector network. | Ranjan SHARMA Qiuwei WU Seung Tae CHA Kim Hφj JENSEN Tony Wederberg RASMUSSEN Jacob ΦSTERGAARD | 2015 | 电力系统自动化2015，39，3： | 4 |
| 6 | Correlation and prognostic significance of beta-galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase and serum monosialylated alpha-fetoprotein in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To investigate the correlation between tissue ST6Gal I and serum msAFP in HCC patients, and to investigate their prognostic significance.METHODS: Preoperative sera,paired tumorous and non-tumorous tissues were collected from 19 consecutive patients who had undergone surgical resection of HCC.ST6Gal T activities in the tissues were measured by an in vitro microsomal enzyme activity assay. The percentages of tumor-specific msAFP in the sera were also estimated by an isoelectric focusing-immunoblotting assay.RESULTS: The tumor ST6Gal I activity was negatively correlated with serum msAFP percentage (r = -0.53,P = 0.019). Both decreased tumor ST6Gal I activity andincreased serum msAFP percentage were associatedwith poor tumor cell differentiation. Univariate analyses showed that both decreased tumor ST6Gal T activity (P = 0.028), increased serum msAFP percentage (P = 0.034) and poor tumor cell differentiation (P = 0.031)were associated with shorter overall survival. Multivariate analysis using the Cox regression model showed that the preoperative serum msAFP percentage (P = 0.022)and tumor cell differentiation status (P = 0.048) were independent prognostic indicators for patient overall survival.CONCLUSION: Our results indicate that the presence of msAFP in blood circulation is associated with a decreased activity of ST6Gal I activity in HCC. | 9 | Reduced striatal volumes in Parkinson’s disease:a magnetic resonance imaging study显示文摘Background:The presence and extent of structural changes in the brain as a consequence of Parkinson’s disease(PD)is still poorly understood.Methods:High-resolution 3-tesla T1-weighted structural magnetic resonance images in sixty-five PD and 27 age-matched healthy control participants were examined.Putamen,caudate,and intracranial volumes were manually traced in the axial plane of 3D reconstructed images.Striatal nuclei volumes were normalized to intracranial volume for statistical comparison.Disease status was assessed using the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale and Hoehn and Yahr scale.Cognitive status was assessed using global status tests and detailed neuropsychological testing.Results:Both caudate and putamen volumes were smaller in PD brains compared to controls after adjusting for age and gender.Caudate volumes were reduced by 11%(p=0.001)and putamen volumes by 8.1%(p=0.025).PD striatal volumes were not found to be significantly correlated with cognitive or motor decline.Conclusion:Small,but significant reductions in the volume of both the caudate and putamen occur in PD brains.These reductions are independent of the effects of age and gender,however the relation of these reductions to the functional loss of dopamine,which is characteristic of PD,remains unclear. | Toni L Pitcher Tracy R Melzer Michael R MacAskill Charlotte F Graham Leslie Livingston Ross J Keenan Richard Watts John C Dalrymple-Alford Tim J Anderson | 2012 | Translational Neurodegeneration2012，1，1： | 2 |
