1The price of protection:a defensive endosymbiont impairs nymph growth in the bird cherry-oat aphid,Rhopalosiphum padi显示文摘Bacterial endosymbionts have enabled aphids to adapt to a range of stressors,but their effects in many aphid species remain to be established.The bird cherry-oat aphid,Rhopalosiphum padi(Linnaeus),is an important pest of cereals worldwide and has been reported to form symbiotic associations with Serratia symbiotica and Sitobion miscanthi L-type symbiont endobacteria,although the resulting aphid phenotype has not been described.This study presents the first report of R.padi infection with the facultative bacterial endosymbiont Hamiltonella defensa.Individuals of R.padi were sampled from populations in Eastern Scotland,UK,and shown to represent seven R.padi genotypes based on the size of polymorphic microsatellite markers;two of these genotypes harbored H.defensa.In parasitism assays,survival of H.defensa-infected nymphs following attack by the parasitoid wasp Aphidius colemani(Viereck)was 5 fold higher than for uninfected nymphs.Aphid genotype was a major determinant of aphid performance on two Hordeum species,a modern cultivar of barley H.vulgare and a wild relative H.spontaneum,although aphids infected with H.defensa showed 16%lower nymph mass gain on the partially resistant wild relative compared with uninfected individuals.These findings suggest that deploying resistance traits in barley will favor the fittest R.padi genotypes,but symbiontinfected individuals will be favored when parasitoids are abundant,although these aphids will not achieve optimal performance on a poor quality host plant.Daniel J.Leyboume Jorunn I.B.Bos Tracy A.Valentine Alison J.Karley 2020Insect Science2020,27,1:5
2纳米贵金属插入的粘土用于催化选择性加氢反应(英文)显示文摘The use of clay minerals in the synthesis of nanosized noble metal particles to give increased catalytic activity was investigated. Nanosized platinum and ruthenium catalysts intercalated in clay (montmorillonite/hectorite) were synthesised and their catalytic activity was evaluated for the selective hydrogenation of three different α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, namely, crotonaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, and citral, in a gas phase microreactor. The metal nano-sol was prepared by the chemical reduction of its precursor by the micellar technique in the presence of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), and the micelle stabilized metal particles were intercalated in the clay mineral by ion exchange. TEM micrographs of the catalyst particles showed that the metal particles were in the nanometre range. The average diameters of the particles were 1-25 nm. The effects of temperature, metal loading, and hydrogen flow rate on the catalytic activity and selectivity for α,β- unsaturated alcohol were studied. The results were correlated with the structural properties of the catalysts. The products formed in each reaction over the different catalysts showed that the catalysts were very active for hydrogenation, and the selectivity for the desired product, namely, α,β-unsaturated alcohol, was good. The metal catalysts intercalated in montmorillonite showed better selectivity than that in hectorite because of its higher acidity. 312-钨磷酸在AlSBA-15上的固定化及其乙酰化催化活性(英文)显示文摘12-Tungstophosphoric heteropoly acid(TPA) with a Keggin structure was introduced into Al-incorporated mesoporous molecular sieves(AlSBA-15) by the incipient wetness method.The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction,nitrogen adsorption,scanning electron microscopy,UV-Vis diffuse reflectance and Raman spectroscopy,which confirmed the Keggin and mesopore structure.Its catalytic activity was evaluated under solvent-free conditions in the liquid phase at 333-383 K for the propionylation of anisole with propionic anhydride.The catalysts used were AlSBA-15,10%,20%,and 40% TPA/AlSBA-15,and 20% TPA/MCM-48.In the propionylation of anisole with propionic anhydride,the substitution occurred predominantly at the para position.The 20% TPA/AlSBA-15 catalyst gave a total product yield of 48% with 98% selectivity towards 4-methoxypropiophenone.The regenerability of the catalyst was also studied and was found to be excellent.S.REVATHI M.Esther Leena PREETHI D.MANIKANDAN D.DIVAKAR A.Valentine RUPA T.SIVAKUMAR 2008催化学报2008,29,12:2

5HARNESSING ECOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES AND PHYSIOLOGIC MECHANISMS IN DIVERSIFYING AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS FOR SUSTAINABILITY:EXPERIENCE FROM STUDIES DEPLOYING NATUR-EBASED SOLUTIONS IN SCOTLAND显示文摘To achieve the triple challenge of food security,reversing biodiversity declines plus mitigating and adapting to climate change,there is a drive to embed ecological principles into agricultural,value-chain practices and decisionmaking.By diversifying cropping systems at several scales there is potential to decrease reliance on inputs,provide resilience to abiotic and biotic stress,enhance plant,microbe and animal biodiversity,and mitigate against climate change.In this review we highlight the research performed in Scotland over the past 5 years into the impact of the use of ecological principles in agriculture on sustainability,resilience and provision of ecosystem functions.We demonstrate that diversification of the system can enhance ecosystem functions.Soil and plant management interventions,including nature-based solutions,can also enhance soil quality and utilization of legacy nutrients.Additionally,this is facilitated by greater reliance on soil biological processes and trophic interactions.We highlight the example of intercropping with legumes to deliver sustainability through ecological principles and use legumes as an exemplar of the innovation.We conclude that there are many effective interventions that can be made to deliver resilient,sustainable,and diverse agroecosystems for crop and food production,and these may be applicable in any agroecosystem.Timothy S.GEORGE Cathy HAWES Tracy A.VALENTINE Alison J.KARLEY Pietro P.M.IANNETTA Robin W.BROOKER 2022Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2022,9,2:0
