| 1 | A complete sequence and comparative analysis of a SARS-associated virus(Isolate BJ01)显示文摘The genome sequence of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)-associated virus provides essential information for the identification of pathogen(s), exploration of etiology and evolution, interpretation of transmission and pathogenesis, development of diagnostics, prevention by future vaccination, and treatment by developing new drugs. We report the complete genome sequence and comparative analysis of an isolate (BJ01) of the coronavirus that has been recognized as a pathogen for SARS. The genome is 29725 nt in size and has 11 ORFs (Open Reading Frames). It is composed of a stable region encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (composed of 2 ORFs) and a variable region representing 4 CDSs (coding sequences) for viral structural genes (the S, E, M, N proteins) and 5 PUPs (putative uncharacterized proteins). Its gene order is identical to that of other known coronaviruses. The sequence alignment with all known RNA viruses places this virus as a member in the family of Coronaviridae. Thirty putative substitutions have been identified by comparative analysis of the 5 SARS- associated virus genome sequences in GenBank. Fifteen of them lead to possible amino acid changes (non-synonymous mutations) in the proteins. Three amino acid changes, with predicted alteration of physical and chemical features, have been detected in the S protein that is postulated to beinvolved in the immunoreactions between the virus and its host. Two amino acid changes have been detected in the Mprotein, which could be related to viral envelope formation. Phylogenetic analysis suggests the possibility of non-human origin of the SARS-associated viruses but provides noevidence that they are man-made. | 2 | Fast-track rehabilitation program vs conventional care after colorectal resection:A randomized clinical trial显示文摘AIM:To compare the fast-track rehabilitation program and conventional care for patients after resection of colorectal cancer.METHODS:One hundred and six consecutive patients who underwent fast-track rehabilitation program were encouraged to have early oral feeding and movement for early discharge,while 104 consecutive patients underwent conventional care after resection of colorectal cancer.Their gastrointestinal functions,postoperative complications and hospital stay time were recorded.RESULTS:The restoration time of gastrointestinal functions in the patients was significantly faster after fasttrack rehabilitation program than after conventional care(2.1 d vs 3.2 d,P < 0.01).The percentage of patients who developed complications was significantly lower 30 d after fast-track rehabilitation program than after conventional care(13.2% vs 26.9%,P < 0.05).Also,the percentage of patients who had general complications was significantly lower 30 d after fast-track rehabilitation program than after conventional care(6.6% vs 15.4%,P < 0.05).The postoperative hospital stay time of the patients was shorter after fast-track rehabilitation program than after conventional care(5 d vs 7 d,P < 0.01).No significant difference was observed in the readmission rate 30 d after fast-track rehabilitation program and conventional care(3.8% vs 8.7%).CONCLUSION:The fast-track rehabilitation program can significantly decrease the complications and shorten the time of postoperative hospital stay of patients after resection colorectal cancer. | Gang Wang Zhi-Wei Jiang Jing Xu Jian-Feng Gong Yang Bao Li-Fei Xie Jie-Shou Li | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,5: | 43 |
| 3 | Entrance Effect on Load Capacity of Orifice Compensated Aerostatic Bearing with Feeding Pocket显示文摘The current research of the aerostatic thrust bearing mainly focuses on the porous material bearing and inherent compensated air bearing, which aims at obtaining small physical dimension and large load capacity. Although porous material bearing appears larger load capacity, materials anisotropy itself and void content distortion caused in heat-treating, and machining processes add greater complexity to internal flow transfer process. Inherent compensated air bearing has the advantages of simple structure and good stability, but its load capacity and static stiffness is not worth somewhat. In this paper, based on hydrostatic lubrication theory, finite volume method is presented for taking entrance effects into account in computing pressure distribution, load capacity and mass flow rates of circular aerostatic thrust bearings. Technical analysis, numerical simulations and laboratory demonstration tests of influence of pocket diameter and pocket depth on loading capacity of aerostatic thrust bearing are carried out on simple orifice compensated air bearings with feeding pockets. The static parameters, such as air consumption and pressure distributions, are measured as a function of supply pressure and air gap height for several different orifices and pockets size. Entrance effects are described in term of typical throttling types, and the effect of pocket diameter and pocket depth on load capacity is systematically described respectively. | 5 | Routing protocol based on social characteristics for opportunistic networks显示文摘Opportunistic networks are derived from delay tolerant networks, where mobile nodes have no end-to-end connections. Nodes are represented by people, which means that opportunistic networks can be regarded as social networks. Human mobility plays an important role in affecting the performance of forwarding protocols in social networks, furthermore, the trajectory of people's movements are driven by social characteristics. However, current routing protocols rely on simple mobility models, and rarely consider social characteristics. Considering two heterogeneous network models, an social opportunistic networks routing(SONR) was proposed which brings an adapted discrete Markov chain into nodes' mobility model and calculates the transition probability between successive status. Comparison was made between Spray, Wait and Epidemic protocol. Simulation show that SONR can improve performance on delivery ratio, delivery latency and network overhead, meanwhile. | 13 | Receptor tyrosine kinases positively regulate BACE activity and Amyloid-β production through enhancing BACE internalization显示文摘Amyloid-β (AP) peptide, the primary constituent of senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD), is generated byβ-secretase- and γ-secretase-mediated sequential proteolysis of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). The aspartic pro-tease, β -site APP cleavage enzyme (BACE), has been identified as the main P-secretase in brain but the regulation of itsactivity is largely unclear. Here, we demonstrate that both BACE activity and subsequent Aβ production are enhancedafter stimulation of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), such as the receptors for epidermal growth factor (EGF) and nervegrowth factor (NGF), in cultured cells as well as in mouse hippocampus. Furthermore, stimulation of RTKs also inducesBACE internalization into endosomes and Golgi apparatus. This enhancement of BACE activity and Aβ production uponRTK activation could be specifically inhibited by Src family kinase inhibitors and by depletion of endogenous c-Src withRNAi, and could be mimicked by over-expressed c-Src. Moreover, blockage of BACE internalization by a dominantnegative form of Rab5 also abolished the enhancement of BACE activity and Aβ production, indicating the requirementof BACE internalization for the enhanced activity. | 19 | The characteristic periodicity analysis of the radio flux variability of quasar PKS 1510-089显示文摘A wavelet analysis method is introduced to study the possible periods of PKS 1510-089 in radio bands. By compiling the radio light curve of PKS 1510-089 at frequencies of 22 and 37 GHz from 1990 to 2005, and using the wavelet analysis method, the evidence of quasi-periodic activity in PKS 1510-089 was obtained. The results indicate that: (1) There are two stable outburst periods of T1=(1.80±0.06) yr and T2= (0.90±0.07) yr presenting in the isoplethal map of PKS 1510-089 at the radio band 37 GHz; (2) there is an outburst period of T1=(1.80±0.06) yr presenting at the radio band 22 GHz; (3) by the continuum of the isograms map, we find the primary period of PKS 1510-089 is T1=(1.80±0.06) yr, and the period of T2= (0.90±0.07) yr may be the half period. The above results are consistent with the reports of Xie et al. (2004, 2005, 2008), Wu et al. (2005) and Liu & Fan (2007), using the other methods.
