2Effects of various pretreatments on biohydrogen production from sewage sludge显示文摘The sewage sludge of wastewater treatment plant is a kind of biomass which contains many organics, mainly carbohydrates and proteins. Four pretreatments, acid pretreatment, alkaline pretreatment, thermal pretreatment and ultrasonic pretreatment, were used to enhance biohydrogen production from sewage sludge. The experimental results showed that the four pretreatments could all increase the soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) of sludge and decrease the dry solid (DS) and volatile solid (VS) because the pretreatments could disrupt the floc structure and even the microbial cells of sludge. The results of batch anaerobic fermentation experiments demonstrated that all of the four pretreatments could select hydrogen-producing microorganisms from the microflora of sludge and enhance the hydrogen production. The hydrogen yield of the alkaline pretreated sludge at initial pH of 11.5 was the maximal (11.68 mL H2/g VS) and that of the thermal pretreated sludge was the next (8.62 mL H2/g VS). The result showed that the hydrogen yield of pretreated sludge was correlative with its SCOD. The hydrogen yields of acid pretreated sludge and alkaline pretreated sludge were also influenced by their initial pH. No methane could be detected in the anaerobic fermentation of alkaline pretreated sludge and thermal pretreated sludge, which suggested that these pretreatments could fully inhibit the activity of methanogens. The volatile fatty acids (VFA) production in anaerobic fermentation of alkaline pre- treated sludge was the maximum and the next is that of thermal pretreated sludge.XIAO BenYi LIU JunXin 2009Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,12:6
3Evaluation of the secondary structures of protein in the extracellular polymeric substances extracted from activated sludge by different methods显示文摘The changes of protein secondary structures in the extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) extracted from activated sludge by four different methods were studied by analyzing the amide I region(1700–1600 cm-1) of the Fourier transform infrared spectra and model protein test. The results showed the molecular weight distribution of organic matter extracted by centrifugation, heating and cation exchange resin(CER) was similar, while the EPS extracted by centrifugation(Control) and CER had similar fluorescent organic matter. The protein secondary structures of extracted EPS by the four methods were different. The similarities of protein secondary structures between the EPS extracted by CER with the Control were the highest among the four extracted EPS. Although the EPS yield extracted by formaldehyde + NaOH method were the highest, its protein secondary structures had the lowest similarity with those extracted by the Control. Additionally, the effects of centrifugation and CER extraction on the secondary structures of bovine serum albumin were also lower than that of other extraction processes. 4Effects of tetrakis (hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate pretreatment on characteristics of sewage sludge显示文摘Recently, tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate(THPS) was found to play an important role in the sludge pretreatment process. However, the effects of THPS pretreatment on the characteristics of sewage sludge are still insufficiently understood.The properties of sludge after pretreatment with different concentrations of THPS were investigated in this study. The results showed that pH, dewatering ability, and particle size of sludge decreased with increase in THPS concentration. The volatile suspended solids(VSS) and total suspended solids(TSS) of sludge also decreased slightly with increase in THPS concentration. The specific oxygen uptake rate(SOUR) results suggested that lower THPS concentrations(≤ 1.87 mg/g VSS) enhanced the activity of sludge, but higher concentrations(≥ 1.87 mg/g VSS) inhibited it. Gram-negative bacteria with peritrichous flagellation(such as Pseudomonas, Escherichia, and Faecalibacterium) were extremely sensitive to THPS. The decrease in specific most probable numbers(MPNs) of pathogens(total coliforms and Escherichia coli) with the increase in THPS concentration also proved the sterilization ability of THPS in the sludge pretreatment process. 5PH DEPENDENCY OF HYDROGEN FERMENTATION FROM ALKALIPRETREATED SLUDGE显示文摘Batch tests were carried out to study the possibility of hydrogen production from alkali-pre- treated sludge without seed and the pH dependency of hydrogen fermentation from alkali-pretreated sludge. Experimental results showed that the sewage sludge with alkali-pretreatment could be successfully applied to biologically producing hydrogen without seed and extra-feed. The results also showed that the initial pH value of sewage sludge was an impor-tant factor throughout the hydrogen fermentation of alkali-pretreated sludge. The maximum hydrogen yield was obtained at initial pH value of 11.0 (14.4 mL·g VS-1). The hydrogen yield of alkali-pretreated sludge at alkaline initial pH value was much higher than that of acidic or neutral initial pH value. The op-timal pH value of hydrogen production from alkali- pretreated sludge was approximately 9.5. The con-sumption of hydrogen could be inhibited when the pH value of sludge was above 8.5. The change of hy-drogen yield at various initial pH values was similar to that of sludge SCOD. The change of sludge pH value was slow and acetate was the major component of volatile fatty acids produced in the process of hy-drogen production. 11Impact of alkali and heat pretreatment on the pathway of hydrogen production from sewage sludge显示文摘Due to the presence of various types of hydrogen-producing bacteria and numerous organics such as protein and carbohydrate,sewage sludge is a potential material for biological hydrogen production.In this study,two batch tests were carried out to investigate the impact of alkali and heat pretreatment on the pathway of hydrogen production from sewage sludge.The results showed that the heat treatment had a stronger lethal effect on bacteria than the alkali treatment,and could effectively kill hydrogen-consuming bacteria.The heat treatment was more suitable for enriching acidophilic hydrogen-producing bacteria,while the alkali treatment was more suitable for enriching basophilic hydrogen-producing bacteria.A maximum hydrogen production of 10.32 mL/g-COD from alkali pretreated sludge was obtained at an initial pH of 11;while a maximum hydrogen production of 8.94 mL/g-COD from heat pretreated sludge was obtained at an initial pH of 5.Hydrogen production in alkali conditions (pH>9) from alkali pretreated sludge mainly depended on the fermentation of protein by protein-utilizing bacteria;whereas hydrogen production in acidic conditions (pH<6) from heat pretreated sludge mainly depended on the fermentation of carbohydrate by glucose-utilizing bacteria.WEI SuZhen XIAO BenYi LIU JunXin 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,8:1

16Neoadjuvant chemotherapy with pingyangmycin can inhibit the amplification and metastasis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the short-term effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with pingyangmycin(PYM)in the treat-ment of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.Methods:24 cases of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma were treated with PYM before the operation,and the surgeries were undergone within one week after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.PCNA,p53,Bcl-2 and CD44v6 were detected in the specimens of tumor,retreated tumor and normal tissue using immunohistochemical methods.Results:Apoptosis could be detected more often in specimens with tumor and retreated tumor after chemotherapy than that before.The expression of PCNA,p53,Bcl-2 and CD44v6 in tumor tissue after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with PYM was weaker than that before the chemotherapy.There was significant difference in the positive ratio of PCNA,p53,Bcl-2 and CD44v6 be-tween retreated tumor and tumor.Conclusion:After neoadjuvant chemotherapy with PYM,a large number of tumor cells died.The amplification and metastasis of tumor were suppressed by neoadjuvant chemotherapy with PYM.Xiaolong Li Ming Gao Haifeng Yu Benyi Xu Zhengjin Ge Yang Yu Songfeng Wei Shuling Li 2006The Chinese-German Journal of Clinical Oncology2006,5,6:1
