1Photostable and Biocompatible Fluorescent Silicon Nanoparticles for Imaging-Guided Co-Delivery of siRNA and Doxorubicin to Drug-Resistant Cancer Cells显示文摘The development of effective and safe vehicles to deliver small interfering RNA(siRNA) and chemotherapeutics remains a major challenge in RNA interference-based combination therapy with chemotherapeutics,which has emerged as a powerful platform to treat drug-resistant cancer cells.Herein,we describe the development of novel all-in-one fluorescent silicon nanoparticles(SiNPs)-based nanomedicine platform for imaging-guided co-delivery of siRNA and doxorubicin(DOX).This approach enhanced therapeutic efficacy in multidrug-resistant breast cancer cells(i.e.,MCF-7/ADR cells).Typically,the SiNP-based nanocarriers enhanced the stability of siRNA in a biological environment(i.e.,medium or RNase A) and imparted the responsive release behavior of siRNA,resulting in approximately 80% down-regulation of P-glycoprotein expression.Co-delivery of P-glycoprotein siRNA and DOX led to>35-fold decrease in the half maximal inhibitory concentration of DOX in comparison with free DOX,indicating the pronounced therapeutic efficiency of the resultant nanocomposites for drug-resistant breast cancer cells.The intracellular time-dependent release behaviors of siRNA and DOX were revealed through tracking the strong and stable fluorescence of SiNPs.These data provide valuable information for designing effective RNA interference-based co-delivery carriers.Daoxia Guo Xiaoyuan Ji Fei Peng Yiling Zhong Binbin Chu Yuanyuan Su Yao He 2019Nano-Micro Letters2019,11,2:5

3Highly fluorescent,photostable,and biocompatible silicon theranostic nanoprobes against Staphylococcus aureus infections显示文摘Human health is severely threatened by bacterial infections,which fuel urgent demand for the development of novel theranostic agents that are suitable for diagnosing and combating bacterial infections.To meet this goal,we synthesized a new kind of theranostic probes,made of vancomycin (Van)-modified fluorescent silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs-Van).The new probes feature good selectivity for Gram-positive bacterial infections,favorable fluorescence,strong resistance to photobleaching (e.g.,12%loss of fluorescence intensity during 40min continuous laser excitation in the presence of Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus)),and good biocompatibility (e.g.,cell viability >95%during 24h treatment).Because of these benefits,the probes were effective at prolonged (i.e.,8-day)fluorescence tracking of S.aureus infections in vivo,thus providing a visible and accurate way to evaluate treatment efficacy.Moreover,the resultant SiNPs-Van with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)of ca.0.5μg/mL exhibited high antibacterial efficiency of 92.5%,superior to that (76.5%)of free Van with higher MIC of ca.1μg/mL.Xia Zhai Bin Song Binbin Chu Yuanyuan Su Houyu Wang Yao He 2018Nano Research2018,11,12:2

5Combined application of organic manure and chemical fertilizers stabilizes soil N-cycling microflora显示文摘Straw and manure are widely applied to agricultural systems,and greatly shape soil N-cycling microflora.However,we still lack a comprehensive understanding of how these organic materials structure soil N-cycling microbial communities.In this study,metagenomic analysis was performed to investigate the compositional variation in N-cycling microbial communities in a 30-year long-term experiment under five fertilization regimes:no fertilization(Control),chemical fertilization only(NPK),and NPK with wheat straw(NPK+HS),pig manure(NPK+PM),and cow manure(NPK+CM).Long-term NPK application differentially changed N-cycling gene abundance and greatly altered N-cycling microbial community structure.NPK+HS resulted in a similar pattern to NPK in terms of gene abundance and community structure.However,NPK+PM and NPK+CM significantly increased most genes and resulted in a community similar to that of the Control.Further analysis revealed that serious soil acidification caused by long-term NPK fertilization was a major factor for the variation in N-cycling microbial communities.The addition of alkaline manure,rather than wheat straw,stabilized the N-cycling microbial community structure presumably by alleviating soil acidification.These results revealed the strong impact of soil acidification on microbial N-cycling communities and illustrated the possibility of resolving nitrogen-related environmental problems by manipulating pH in acidified agricultural soils.Ruibo Sun Daozhong Wang Zhibin Guo Keke Hua Xisheng Guo Yan Chen Binbin Liu Haiyan Chu 2023Soil Ecology Letters2023,5,3:0
6Manipulating internal flow units toward favorable plasticity in Zr-based bulk-metallic glasses by hydrogenation显示文摘This work intends to manipulate the internal flow units in Zr_(55)Cu_(30)Ni_(5)Al_(10)bulk-metallic glasses(BMGs)through plasma-assisted hydrogenation to generate a positive microalloying effect on plasticity.Based on the cooperative shear model theory,serration-flow statistics during nanoindentation loading and creep tests during the holding stage were used to analyze the influence of hydrogen on the behavior of flow units in BMGs.Experimental observations showed that the hydrogen in the Zr_(55)Cu_(30)Ni_(5)Al_(10)BMGs caused mechanical softening,plasticity improvement,and structural relaxation.Analysis also showed that the average volume,size,and activation energy of internal flow units in the BMGs all increased as a result of the increase in the hydrogen content.The hydrogenation in the BMGs was found to lead to a prolifera-tion of shear bands,which promoted plasticity.The aggregation of these internal flow units reduced the stress required for plastic deformation through shear bands,ultimately causing softening and structural relaxation.Fuyu Dong Yuexin Chu Mengyuan He Yue Zhang Weidong Li Peter K.Liaw Binbin Wang Liangshun Luo Yanqing Su Robert O.Ritchie Xiaoguang Yuan 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,7:0

10Highly Efficient Aligned Ion‑Conducting Network and Interface Chemistries for Depolarized All‑Solid‑State Lithium Metal Batteries显示文摘Improving the long-term cycling stability and energy density of all-solid-state lithium(Li)-metal batteries(ASSLMBs)at room temperature is a severe challenge because of the notorious solid–solid interfacial contact loss and sluggish ion transport.Solid electrolytes are generally studied as two-dimensional(2D)structures with planar interfaces,showing limited interfacial contact and further resulting in unstable Li/electrolyte and cathode/electrolyte interfaces.Herein,three-dimensional(3D)architecturally designed composite solid electrolytes are developed with independently controlled structural factors using 3D printing processing and post-curing treatment.Multiple-type electrolyte films with vertical-aligned micro-pillar(p-3DSE)and spiral(s-3DSE)structures are rationally designed and developed,which can be employed for both Li metal anode and cathode in terms of accelerating the Li+transport within electrodes and reinforcing the interfacial adhesion.The printed p-3DSE delivers robust long-term cycle life of up to 2600 cycles and a high critical current density of 1.92 mA cm^(−2).The optimized electrolyte structure could lead to ASSLMBs with a superior full-cell areal capacity of 2.75 mAh cm^(−2)(LFP)and 3.92 mAh cm^(−2)(NCM811).This unique design provides enhancements for both anode and cathode electrodes,thereby alleviating interfacial degradation induced by dendrite growth and contact loss.The approach in this study opens a new design strategy for advanced composite solid polymer electrolytes in ASSLMBs operating under high rates/capacities and room temperature.Yongbiao Mu Shixiang Yu Yuzhu Chen Youqi Chu Buke Wu Qing Zhang Binbin Guo Lingfeng Zou Ruijie Zhang Fenghua Yu Meisheng Han Meng Lin Jinglei Yang Jiaming Bai Lin Zeng 2024Nano-Micro Letters2024,16,5:0
11Fluorescent Silicon-based Nanomaterials Imaging Technology in Diseases显示文摘Fluorescence imaging analysis of microscale dynamic process(e.g.,metabolism,mitosis,endocytosis,exocytosis,etc.)is of particular significance to study the related pathogenesis and design the intracellular drug delivery systems.Owing to unique physical,chemical and/or biological properties,silicon(Si)-based nanomaterials have been employed to design and construct different types of nanoprobes for the imaging analysis of diseases.Thus,we herein present an overview of recent advances in fluorescent silicon nanomaterials imaging technology for analyzing and diagnosing diseases.Firstly,we mainly introduce the construction of Si nanomaterials-based bioprobes for long-term fluorescence imaging analysis of cancer-related biological information,such as tumour cells,biomarkers and nanocarriers.Afterwards,we focus on the Si nanomaterials-based imaging technology for monitoring the dynamic process of pathological changes of various ocular diseases(e.g.,ocular angiogenesis,bacterial keratitis,etc.).Then,we outline the construction of Si-based nanoprobes and their applications in simultaneously imaging and treating the bacteria-induced diseases caused by broad-spectrum bacteria-related pathogens.Finally,we further discuss the major challenges and prospects for developing silicon-based fluorescence imaging technology.CHU Binbin WANG Houyu HE Yao 2021Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2021,37,4:0
