| 1 | Comparison of visual acuity, refractive results and complications of femtosecond laser with mechanical microkeratome in LASIK显示文摘AIM: To compare the outcomes of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) performed with a femtosecond laser (Femtec, Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH, Germany) versus a mechanical microkeratome (Hansatome, Bausch and Lomb, USA) for the correction of myopia and astigmatism. ·METHODS: In this retrospective study, patients who had undergone LASIK using the 80 -kHz Femtec femtosecond laser were compared to age- and refraction- matched patients in whom the Hansatome microkeratome was used. Refractive and visual results 1 month and 3 months postoperatively, and complication rates were compared between the two groups. ·RESULTS: A total of 280 eyes were analyzed (140 in each group). At 3 months postoperatively in the Femtec vs Hansatome group, spherical equivalent refraction was within ±1.00D of emmetropia in 140 vs 138 eyes (P = 0.498), the cylinder was within ±0.50D in 137 vs 139 eyes (P =0.622), and the UDVA was 20/20 or better in 136 vs 137 eyes (P =0.724), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the complication rates between the two groups (P =0.099). ·CONCLUSION: LASIK performed both with Femtec femtosecond laser and Hansatome microkeratome achieved satisfactory refractive and visual results at 3 months postoperatively, without significant differences in efficacy, safety, and complication rates between the two procedures. | Cemile Banu Cosar Tansu Gonen Murat Moray Asim Bozkurt Sener | 2013 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,3: | 7 |
| 2 | Neuroprotective effects of daidzein on focal cerebral ischemia injury in rats显示文摘Daidzein, a plant extract, has antioxidant activity. It is hypothesized, in this study, that daidzein exhibits neuroprotective effects on cerebral ischemia. Rat models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were intraperitoneally administered daidzein. Biochemical and immunohistochemical tests showed that superoxide dismutase and nuclear respiratory factor 1 expression levels in the brain tissue decreased after ischemia and they increased obviously after daidzein administration; malondialdehyde level and apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase caspase-3 and caspase-9 immunoreactivity in the brain tissue increased after ischemia and they decreased obviously after daidzein administration. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and luxol fast blue staining results showed that intraperitoneal administration of daidzein markedly alleviated neuronal damage in the ischemic brain tissue. These findings suggest that daidzein exhibits neuroprotective effects on ischemic brain tissue by decreasing oxygen free radical production, which validates the aforementioned hypothesis. | Adem Bozkurt Aras Mustafa Guven Tar?k Akman Adile Ozkan Halil Murat Sen Ugur Duz Y?ld?ray Kalkan Coskun Silan Murat Cosar | 2015 | Neural Regeneration Research2015,10,1: | 4 |
| 3 | Low eradication rate of Helicobacterpyloriwith triple 7-14 days and quadriple therapy in Turkey显示文摘AIM:The eradication rate of Helicobacter pylori (H pylon) shows variation among countries and regimens of treatment. We aimed to study the eradication rates of different regimens in our region and some factors affecting the rate of eradication.METHODS:One hundred and sixty-four Hpylori positivepatients (68 males, 96 females; mean age:48±12 years)with duodenal or gastric ulcer without a smoking history were included in the study. The patients were divided into three groups according to the treatment regimens. Omeprazole 20mg, clarithromycin 500mg, amoxicillin 1g were given twice daily for 1 week (Group I) and 2 weeks (Group Ⅱ).Patients in Group Ⅲ received bismuth subsitrate 300mg,tetracyline 500 mg and metronidazole 500mg four times daily in addition to Omeprazole 20mg twice daily. Two biopsies each before and after treatment were obtained from antrum and corpus, and histopathologically evaluated.Eradication was assumed to be successful if no Hpylorus was detected from four biopsy specimens taken after treatment. The effects of factors like age, sex, Hpyloridensity on antrum and corpus before treatment, the total Hpylori density, and the inflammation scores on the rate of Hpylori eradication were evaluated.RESULTS:The overall eradication rate was 42%. The rates in groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ were statistically higher than that in group I (P<0.05). The rates of eradication were 24.5%,40.7% and 61.5% in groups Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ, respectively. The eradication rate was negatively related to either corpus Hpylori density or total Hpyloridensity (P<0.05).The median age was older in the group in which the eradication failed in comparison to that with successful eradication (55yr vs 39yr, P<0.001). No correlation between sex and Hpylori eradication was found.CONCLUSION: Our rates of eradication were significantly lower when compared to those reported in literature. We believe that advanced age and high Hpyloridensity are negative predictive factors for the rate of Hpylorieradication. | Yuksel Gumurdulu Ender Serin Birol zer Fazilet Kayaselcuk Kursat Ozsahin Arif Mansur Cosar Murat Gursoy Gurden Gur Ugur Yilmaz Sedat Boyacioglu | 2004 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2004,10,5: | 4 |
| 4 | Syringaldehyde exerts neuroprotective effect on cerebral ischemia injury in rats through anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties显示文摘There are few studies on the neuroprotective effects of syringaldehyde in a rat model of cerebral ischemia. The study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of syringaldehyde on ischemic brain cells. Rat models of cerebral ischemia were intraperitoneally administered syringaldehyde. At 6 and 24 hours after syringaldehyde administration, cell damage in the brain of cerebral ischemia rats was obviously reduced, superoxide dismutase activity and nuclear respiratory factor 1 expression in the brain tissue were markedly increased, malondiadehyde level was obviously decreased, apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase caspase-3 and-9 immunoreactivity was obviously decreased, and neurological function was markedly improved. These findings suggest that syringaldehyde exerts neuroprotective effects on cerebral ischemia injury through anti-oxidation and anti-apoptosis. | Aras Adem Bozkurt Guven Mustafa Akman Tar?k Ozkan Adile Sen Halil Murat K?l?coglu Mesut Kalkan Y?ld?ray Silan Coskun Cosar Murat | 2014 | Neural Regeneration Research2014,9,21: | 2 |
