1Artificial intelligence in healthcare:past,present and future显示文摘Artificial intelligence(AI)aims to mimic human cognitive functions.It is bringing a paradigm shift to healthcare,powered by increasing availability of healthcare data and rapid progress of analytics techniques.We survey the current status of AI applications in healthcare and discuss its future.AI can be applied to various types of healthcare data(structured and unstructured).Popular AI techniques include machine learning methods for structured data,such as the classical support vector machine and neural network,and the modern deep learning,as well as natural language processing for unstructured data.Major disease areas that use AI tools include cancer,neurology and cardiology.We then review in more details the AI applications in stroke,in the three major areas of early detection and diagnosis,treatment,as well as outcome prediction and prognosis evaluation.We conclude with discussion about pioneer AI systems,such as IBM Watson,and hurdles for real-life deployment of AI.Fei Jiang Yong Jiang Hui Zhi Yi Dong Hao Li Sufeng Ma Yilong Wang Qiang Dong Haipeng Shen Yongjun Wang 2017Stroke & Vascular Neurology2017,2,4:76
2Mapping wetland changes in China between 1978 and 2008显示文摘Four wetland maps for all China have been produced,based on Landsat and CBERS-02B remote sensing data between 1978 and 2008 (1978,1990,2000 and 2008).These maps were mainly developed by manual interpretation and validated by substantial field investigation in 2009.Based on these maps,we analyzed the 2008 wetland distribution in China and discussed wetland changes and their drivers over the past 30 years.(i) There were about 324097 km 2 of wetlands in 2008,for which inland marshes or swamps were the most common wetland type (35%),with lakes (26%) second.Most of the wetlands were in Heilongjiang,Inner Mongolia,Qinghai and Tibet,occupying about 55% of the national wetland area.(ii) From 1978 to 2008,China's wetland area continually and significantly decreased,by about 33% based on changes in the wetland map.This was in sharp contrast to the increase in artificial wetlands,which increased by about 122%.Inland marshes accounted for the main loss of total wetlands from 1978 to 2000.From 2000 through 2008,riverine and lacustrine wetlands constituted the main wetland loss.Fortunately however,the rate of wetland loss decreased from 5523 to 831 km 2 /a.(iii) The change ratio of lost natural wetlands (including inland and coastal wetlands) to non-wetlands has decreased slightly over the past 30 years.From 1978 to 1990,nearly all natural wetlands (98%) lost were transformed into non-wetlands.However,the ratio declined to 86% from 1990 to 2000,and to 77% from 2000 to 2008.(iv) All Chinese provinces were divided into three groups according to patterns of wetland changes,which could relate to the driving forces of such changes.Tibet was completely different from other provinces,as it was one representative example in which there was a net wetland increase,because of global warming and decreased human activity since 1990.Increased economic development caused considerable wetland loss in most eastern provinces,and artificial wetlands increased.NIU ZhenGuo ZHANG HaiYing WANG XianWei YAO WenBo ZHOU DeMin ZHAO KuiYi ZHAO Hui LI NaNa HUANG HuaBing LI CongCong YANG Jun LIU CaiXia LIU Shuang WANG Lin LI Zhan YANG ZhenZhong QIAO Fei ZHENG YaoMin CHEN YanLei SHENG YongWei GAO XiaoHong ZHU WeiHong WANG WenQing WANG Hong WENG YongLing ZHUANG DaFang LIU JiYuan LUO ZhiCai CHENG Xiao GUO ZiQi GONG Peng 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,22:51
3Prevalence of HPV Infection And Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia And Attitudes towards HPV Vaccination among Chinese Women Aged 18-25 in Jiangsu Province显示文摘Objective:Few data are available on the epidemiology of HPV and cervical cancer among Chinese women younger than 25 years old.This study aimed to estimate the HPV infection rate and the prevalence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN) in women aged 18-25,as well as their knowledge of and attitudes towards HPV vaccination.Methods:A population-based cervical cancer screening study was conducted on women aged 18-25 in Jiangsu province in 2008.Participants provided socio-demographic,reproductive and behavioral information and completed a survey about their knowledge of and attitudes towards HPV vaccination.Women then underwent a gynecologic exam to provide two cervical exfoliated cell samples for high risk HPV DNA testing and liquid-based cytology(LBC) as well as visual inspection with acetic acid(VIA).Women testing positive for any test were referred to colposcopy and biopsy.The gold standard for diagnosis of cervical lesions was directed or random biopsies.Results:Within the sample of 316 women,3.4% of them were diagnosed with CIN grade 2 or worse lesions and 17.1% were found to be positive for HPV DNA.Among these young women,extra-marital sexual behavior of them(OR=2.0,95%CI:1.1-3.8) or their husbands(OR=2.6,95%:1.4-4.7) were associated with an increased risk of HPV positivity.Although overall HPV awareness was low,after a brief educational intervention,98.4% reported they would electively receive HPV vaccination and would also recommend that their daughters be vaccinated.However,most urban and rural women reported their ideal maximum out-of-pocket contribution for HPV vaccination to be less than 500 RMB and 50-100 RMB,respectively.Conclusion:Our study indicates cervical disease burden is relatively high among sampled Chinese women aged 18-25.Appropriate educational interventions for female adolescents and strategies to subsidize vaccine costs are definitely needed to ensure the effectiveness of vaccination campaigns in China.Shang-ying Hu Ying Hong Fang-hui Zhao Adam K. 58-bromo-7-methoxychrysin inhibits properties of liver cancer stem cells via downregulation of β-catenin显示文摘AIM:To evaluate whether 8-bromo-7-methoxychrysin(BrMC),a synthetic analogue of chrysin,inhibits the properties of cancer stem cells derived from the human liver cancer MHCC97 cell line and to determine the potential mechanisms.METHODS:CD133+cells were sorted from the MHCC97 cell line by magnetic activated cell sorting,and amplified in stem cell-conditioned medium to obtain the enriched CD133+sphere forming cells(SFCs).The stem cell properties of CD133+SFCs were validated by the tumorsphere formation assay in vitro and the xenograft nude mouse model in vivo,and termed liver cancer stem cells(LCSCs).The effects of BrMC on LCSCs in vitro were evaluated by MTT assay,tumorsphere formation assay and transwell chamber assay.The effects of BrMC on LCSCs in vivo were determined using a primary and secondary xenograft model in Balb/c-nu mice.Expressions of the stem cell markers,epithelialmesenchymal transition(EMT)markers andβ-catenin protein were analyzed by western blotting or immunohistochemical analysis.RESULTS:CD133+SFCs exhibited stem-like cell properties of tumorsphere formation and tumorigenesis capacity in contrast to the parental MHCC97 cells.We found that BrMC preferentially inhibited proliferation and self-renewal of LCSCs(P<0.05).Furthermore,BrMC significantly suppressed EMT and invasion of LCSCs.Moreover,BrMC could efficaciously eliminate LCSCs in vivo.Interestingly,we showed that BrMC decreased the expression ofβ-catenin in LCSCs.Silencing ofβ-catenin by small interfering RNA could synergize the inhibition of self-renewal of LCSCs induced by BrMC,while Wnt3a treatment antagonized the inhibitory effects of BrMC.CONCLUSION:BrMC can inhibit the functions and characteristics of LCSCs derived from the liver cancer MHCC97 cell line through downregulation ofβ-catenin expression.Mei-Fang Quan Li-Hong Xiao Zhi-Hong Liu Hui Guo Kai-Qun Ren Fei Liu Jian-Guo Cao Xi-Yun Deng 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,43:22

7Relationship between cytokines gene polymorphism and susceptibility to hepatitis B virus intrauterine infection显示文摘Background The influences of genomic background are confirmed in more diseases. Immunologic tolerance after intrauterine infection of hepatitis B virus is considered to occur in T cells. Cytokines work effectively in eliminating virus by immune system after hepatitis B virus infection. To explore the relationship between cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α, interferon-γ, interleukin-4 and interleukin-10), which expressed abnormal quantity in the peripheral blood to intrauterine hepatitis B virus infectious children, gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and susceptibility to hepatitis B virus intrauterine infection. Methods This is a cross sectional study of molecular clinical epidemiology. The subjects in this study were selected from outpatients of hepatitis B vaccine follow-up special clinics of our hospital in the period. According to intrant criteria, the high risk children of hepatitis B virus (HBV) intrauterine infection were divided into immune failure group (group Ⅰ); and immune effective group (group Ⅱ) and non high risk children belonged to the control group. Four gene SNP sites of TNF-α -238, IFN-γ +874, IL-4 -590 and IL-10 -1082 were determined by real-time quantitative fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results The significant differences of TNF-α -238 A allele frequency were found between group Ⅰ and groupⅡ (χ2=6.797,P<0.05) and between groupⅠ and the control group (χ2=9.513,P<0.05). No evident differences of TNF-α -238 A were found between group Ⅱ and control group (χ2=0.047,P>0.05); the significant differences of IFN-γ +874 A allele frequency were found between groupⅠ and groupⅡ(χ2=7.238,P<0.05), and between groupⅠ and the control group (χ2=5.199,P<0.05). No evident differences were found between groupⅡ and the control group (χ2=0.602,P>0.05); the significant differences of IL-4 -590 C/T allele frequency were not found between groupⅠand group Ⅱ(χ2=0.632,P>0.05), also groupⅠ and the control group (χ2=0.584,P>0.05), and the groupⅡ and the control group (χ2=0.004,P>0.05)respectively; The significant differences of IL-10 -1082 G allele frequency were found between groupⅡ and groupⅠ (χ2=10.359,P<0.001), and between groupⅡ and the controls (χ2=35.418,P<0.001), but the significant differences were not found between groupⅠand the control group (χ2=1.759,P>0.05). Conclusions This study suggested the possibility that the TNF-α -238 A allele and IFN-γ +874 A allele were associated with HBV intrauterine infection. 8Isolation and Characterization of an Algicidal Bacterium Indigenous to Lake Taihu with a Red Pigment able to Lyse Microcystis aeruginosa显示文摘Objective To isolate and characterize indigenous algicidal bacteria and their algae-lysing compounds active against Microcystis aeruginosa, strains TH1, TH2, and FACHB 905. Methods The bacteria were identified using the Biolog automated microbial identification system and 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The algae-lysing compounds were isolated and purified by silica gel column chromatography and reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. Their structures were confirmed by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Algae-lysing activity was observed using microscopy. Results The algae-lysing bacterium LTH-2 isolated from Lake Taihu was identified as Serratia marcescens. Strain LTH-2 secreted a red pigment identified as prodigiosin (C 20 H 25 N 3 O), which showed strong lytic activity with algal strains M. aeruginosa TH1, TH2, and FACHB 905 in a concentration-dependent manner. The 50% inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) of prodigiosin with the algal strains was 4.8 (±0.4)×10 -2 μg/mL, 8.9 (±1.1)×10-2 μg/mL, and 1.7 (±0.1)×10 -1 μg/mL in 24 h, respectively. Conclusion The bacterium LTH-2 and its pigment had strong Microcystis-lysing activity probably related to damage of cell membranes. 9Virulence and potential pathogenicity of coccoid Helicobacter pylori induced by antibiotics显示文摘AIM To explore the virulence and the potential pathogenicity of coccoid Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) transformed from spiral form by exposure to antibiotic.METHODS Three strains of H. pylori, isolated from gastric biopsy specimens of confirmed peptic ulcer, were converted from spiral into coccoid from by exposure to metronidazole.Both spiral and coccoid form of H. pylori were tested for the urease activity, the adherence to Hep-2 cells and the vacuolating cytotoxicity to Hela cells, and the differences of the protein were analysed by SDS-PAGE and Western blot,The mutation of the genes including ureA, ureB,hpaA; vacA and cagA, related with virulence,was detected by means of PCR and PCR-SSCP.RESULTS In the coccoid H. pylori, the urease activity, the adherence to Hep-2 cells and the vacuolating cytotoxicity to Hela cells alldecreased. In strain F44, the rate and index of adherence reduced from 70.0% ± 5.3% to 33% ±5.1% and from 2.6 ±0.4 to 0.96 ±0.3 (P<0.01),respectively. The invasion of coccoid H. pylori into Hep-2 cell could be seen under electronmicroscope. SDS-PAGE showed that the content of the protein with the molecular weight over Mr74 000 decreased, and the hybriditional signal in band Mr 125 000 weakened, while the band Mr 110000 and Mr63000 strengthened in coccoid H. pylori as shown in Western blot. 10The sensitivity of digestive tract tumor cells to As_2O_3 is associated with the inherent cellular level of reactive oxygen species显示文摘AIM:To explore the correlation of the inherent cellular ROSlevel with the susceptibility of the digestive tract tumor cellsto apoptosis inducted by As_2O_3.METHODS:Two gastric cercinoma cell lines,SGC7901 andMKN45,and two esophageal carcinoma cell lines,EC/CUHKI(alternatively named EC1.71)and EC1867 with lowconcentration(2μmol·L^(-1))of As_2O_3 were cultured respectly,which confirmed the difference in apoptosis susceptibilitybetween SGC7901 and MKN45,and between EC/CUHK1 andEC1867.The cells were incubated withdihydrogenrhodamine123(DHR123),used as a ROScapture,in absence of As_2O_3.The fluorescent intensity ofrhodamine123,which was the product of cellular oxidationof DHR123,was detected by flow cytometry,and ROS wasmeasured.RESULTS:Apoptosis induced by a low concentration ofAs203 was more readily to occur in SGC7901(22.4%±2.4%)and EC/CUHK1(27.0%±2.9%)than in MKN45(2.1%±0.5%)and EC1867(0.8%±0.5%).In other words,SGC7901was more sensitive than MKN45 to As_2O_3,meanwhile EC/CUHK1 was more sensitive than EC1867 to As_2O_3.The levelof inherent cellular ROS in SGC7901(650±37)was higherthan that in MKN45(507±22)(P<0.01),and the level ofinherent cellular ROS in EC/CUHK1(462±17)was higherthan that in EC1867(187±12)(P<0.01).CONCLUSIONS.The cellular sensitivity to apoptosis inducedby As_2O_3 is associated with the difference in cellular ROSlevel.The inherent ROS level might determinate theapoptotic sensitivity of tumor cells to As_2O_3.Fei Gao Jing Yi Gui-Ying Shi Hui Li Xue-Geng Shi Xue-Ming Tang Department of Cell Biology,Shanghai Second Medical University,Shanghai 200025,China 2002World Journal of Gastroenterology2002,8,1:18
11Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt vs endoscopic therapy in preventing variceal rebleeding显示文摘AIM:To compare early use of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) with endoscopic treatment(ET) for the prophylaxis of recurrent variceal bleeding.METHODS:In-patient data were collected from 190 patients between January 2007 and June 2010 who suffured from variceal bleeding.Patients who were older than 75 years;previously received surgical treatment or endoscopic therapy for variceal bleeding;and complicated with hepatic encephalopathy or hepatic cancer,were excluded from this research.Thirty-five cases lost to follow-up were also excluded.Retrospective analysis was done in 126 eligible cases.Among them,64 patients received TIPS(TIPS group) while 62 patients received endoscopic therapy(ET group).The relevant data were collected by patient review or telephone calls.The occurrence of rebleeding,hepatic encephalopathy or other complications,survival rateand cost of treatment were compared between the two groups.RESULTS:During the follow-up period(median,20.7 and 18.7 mo in TIPS and ET groups,respectively),rebleeding from any source occurred in 11 patients in the TIPS group as compared with 31 patients in the ET group(Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test,P = 0.000).Rebleeding rates at any time point(6 wk,1 year and 2 year) in the TIPS group were lower than in the ET group(Bonferroni correction α' = α/3).Eight patients in the TIPS group and 16 in the ET group died with the cumulative survival rates of 80.6% and 64.9%(Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test c2 = 4.864,P = 0.02),respectively.There was no significant difference between the two groups with respect to 6-wk survival rates(Bonferroni correction α' = α/3).However,significant differences were observed between the two groups in the 1-year survival rates(92% and 79%) and the 2-year survival rates(89% and 64.9%)(Bonferroni correction α' = α/3).No significant differences were observed between the two treatment groups in the occurrence of hepatic encephalopathy(12 patients in TIPS group and 5 in ET group,KaplanMeier analysis and log-rank test,c2 = 3.103,P = 0.08).The average total cost for the TIPS group was higher than for ET group(Wilcxon-Mann Whitney test,52 678 RMB vs 38 844 RMB,P < 0.05),but hospitalization frequency and hospital stay during follow-up period were lower(Wilcxon-Mann Whitney test,0.4 d vs 1.3 d,P = 0.01;5 d vs 19 d,P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:Early use of TIPS is more effective than endoscopic treatment in preventing variceal rebleeding and improving survival rate,and does not increase occurrence of hepatic encephalopathy.Hui Xue Meng Zhang Jack XQ Pang Fei Yan Ying-Chao Li Liang-Shan Lv Jia Yuan Muna Palikhe Wei-Zhi Li Zhi-Lun Wang 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,48:17
12Evaluation of spatial-temporal dynamics in surface water temperature of Qinghai Lake from 2001 to 2010 by using MODIS data显示文摘Lake surface water temperature(SWT) is an important indicator of lake state relative to its water chemistry and aquatic ecosystem,in addition to being an important regional climate indicator.However,few literatures involving spatial-temporal changes of lake SWT in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,including Qinghai Lake,are available.Our objective is to study the spatial-temporal changes in SWT of Qinghai Lake from 2001 to 2010,using Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) data.Based on each pixel,we calculated the temporal SWT variations and long-term trends,compared the spatial patterns of annual average SWT in different years,and mapped and analyzed the seasonal cycles of the spatial patterns of SWT.The results revealed that the differences between the average daily SWT and air temperature during the temperature decreasing phase were relatively larger than those during the temperature increasing phase.The increasing rate of the annual average SWT during the study period was about 0.01℃/a,followed by an increasing rate of about 0.05℃/a in annual average air temperature.The annual average SWT from 2001 to 2010 showed similar spatial patterns,while the SWT spatial changes from January to December demonstrated an interesting seasonal reversion pattern.The high-temperature area transformed stepwise from the south to the north regions and then back to the south region from January to December,whereas the low-temperature area demonstrated a reversed annual cyclical trace.The spatial-temporal patterns of SWTs were shaped by the topography of the lake basin and the distribution of drainages.Fei XIAO Feng LING Yun DU Qi FENG Yi YAN Hui CHEN 2013Journal of Arid Land2013,5,4:16
13Liver Enzymes Concentrations Are Closely Related to Pre-diabetes:Findings of the Shanghai Diabetes Study Ⅱ (SHDS Ⅱ)显示文摘Objective To investigate the relationship of liver enzymes with hyperglycemia in a large population in Shanghai and identify the association between liver enzymes and insulin resistance.Methods A total of 3 756 participants were enrolled.Each participant underwent an oral glucose tolerance test and completed a questionnaire.Anthropometric indices were recorded and serum samples were collected for measurement.Results Liver enzymes concentrations were independently associated with i-IGT,IFG+IGT,and diabetes.With the increase of ALT and GGT concentrations,ORs for i-IGT,IFG+IGT,and diabetes increased gradually.By comparing patients in the highest quartile of GGT concentrations or ALT concentrations with those in the lowest quartile (Q1),ORs for i-IGT,IFG+IGT,or diabetes was significant after adjustment.Both ALT and GGT concentrations were linearly correlated with HOMA-IR and independently associated with HOMA-IR [ALT OR (95% CI):2.56 (1.51-4.34) P=0.00;GGT OR (95% CI):2.66 (1.53-4.65) P=0.00].Conclusion Serum ALT and GGT concentrations were closely related to pre-diabetes and diabetes in the Shanghai population and positively associated with insulin resistance.GAO Fei PAN Jie Min HOU Xu Hong FANG Qi Chen LU Hui Juan TANG Jun Ling GU Hui Lin PAN Zhi Jian YAO You Hua SHEN Wei Zhen JIA Wei Ping 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,1:15

16Profiling of the transcriptome of Porphyra yezoensis with Solexa sequencing technology显示文摘With high-throughput Solexa sequencing technology,we profiled Porphyra yezoensis transcriptomes from 8 different samples. More than 1200 megabases from 13333334 quality paired-end reads were generated,which were assembled into 31538 unigenes. Blast analysis showed that 56.7%unigenes were novel,which represented the specific genes of Porphyra and/or rhodophytes. Several hundreds of unigenes related to stress tolerance were discovered,including genes related to desiccation-(211) and high light-tolerance(31) ,flavonoid biosynthesis(10) ,reactive oxygen scavenging(48) and other stress-tolerance processes(208) ,which indicated there existed complex and diversity modes of stress tolerance in this species.A complete set of essential genes involved in the C3-(57) and C4-(44) carbon fixation pathway(except pyruvate phosphate dikinase) were discovered,which not only proved that they were actively transcribed but also clearly outlined the panoptic view of carbon fixation in Porphyra.Moreover,by statistically analyzing the types,proportions and frequencies of the interspersed repeats(TEs) and simple sequence repeats(SSRs) ,we discovered that the top three types of TEs were all retrotransposons and the trinucleotide was the absolute predominant type among SSRs,promoting our understanding of structural characteristics of the transcriptome.This study substantially improved the global view of the Porphyra genome and provided a valuable resource for future research.YANG Hui MAO YunXiang KONG FanNa YANG GuanPin MA Fei WANG Li 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,20:13
17Formability of AA 2219-O sheet under quasi-static,electromagnetic dynamic,and mechanical dynamic tensile loadings显示文摘The mechanism by which electromagnetic forming(EMF)enhances the formability of metals is unclear owing to the coupling effect of multi-physics fields.In the present work,the associated formability improvement mechanisms were qualitatively categorized and illustrated.This was realized by comparing the formability of fully annealed 2219 aluminum alloy(AA 2219-O)sheet under quasi-static(QS),electromagnetic dynamic(EM),and mechanical dynamic(MD)tensile loadings.It was found that the forming limit of AA 2219-O sheet under EM tensile loading was significantly(45.4%)higher than that under QS tensile loading,and was marginally(3.7%–4.3%)higher than that under MD tensile loading.In addition,the forming limit of AA 2219-O sheet demonstrated a negative dependency on the strain rate within the range of the dynamic tensile tests conducted.The deformation conditions common to EM and MD tensile loadings were responsible for the significant formability improvement compared with QS tensile loading.In particular,the inertial effect was dominant.The different deformation conditions that distinguish EM tensile loading from MD tensile loading resulted in the marginal improvement in formability.This was caused by the absence of a sustaining contact force at the later deformation stage and the lower strain rate.The body force exerted little influence on the formability improvement,and the thermal effect under the two dynamic tensile loadings was negligible.Hongliang Su Liang Huang Jianjun Li Wang Xiao Hui Zhu Fei Feng Hongwei Li Siliang Yan 2021Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,11:13

20ENSO ensemble prediction:Initial error perturbations vs. model error perturbations显示文摘Based on our developed ENSO (El Nio-Southern Oscillation) ensemble prediction system (EPS), the impacts of stochastic initial-error and model-error perturbations on ENSO ensemble predictions are examined and discussed by performing four sets of 14-a retrospective forecast experiments in both a deterministic and probabilistic sense. These forecast schemes are differentiated by whether they considered the initial or model stochastic perturbations. The comparison results suggest that the stochastic model-error perturbations, which are added into the modeled physical fields to mainly represent the uncertainties of the physical model, have significant, positive impacts on improving the ensemble prediction skills during the entire 12-month forecast process.
