| 3 | Ecosystem carbon and nitrogen storage following farmland afforestation with black locust(Robinia pseudoacacia) on the Loess Plateau, China显示文摘Although afforestation of farmlands has been proposed as an effective method of carbon(C) sequestration, there remain uncertainties that deter us from developing a clear picture of C stocks in plantation ecosystems.This study investigated the dynamics of stand structure and plant diversity, and C and nitrogen(N) pools in trees,herbs, litter, and soil(0–100 cm depth) in black locust plantations aged 9, 17, 30, and 37 years, and in newly abandoned farmlands as pre-afforestation sites, on the Loess Plateau, China. Stand density decreased significantly, while tree diameter at breast height and height increased during stand development. The dominant species of the herb layer differed with age. Afforestation resulted in slight increases in tree C and N storage in plantations from 9 to 30 years of age, and then significantly increased from 30 to 37 years. Compared to pre-afforestation, C and N storage in soil decreased to minimum values in stands aged 17 and 9 years, respectively. The soil re-accumulated C and N during stand development, attaining equilibrium levels similar to those in pre-afforestation when stands reached about 30 years of age. Soil C and N storage in 37-year stands were 29 and 16% higher, respectively, than in pre-afforestation levels. However, C and N concentrations in the subsoil(20–40 cm) were still less than the preafforestation levels for stands of all ages(from 9 to 37 years). The relative contribution to the total ecosystem C and N pools increased in trees and decreased in soil during the observed period. Our results indicate that afforestation reduced soil C and N storage during the early stages of stand development. The mathematical expressions are driven to calculate the surface temperature. The transient behavior of the maximum temperature on contact area is investigated in different grinding conditions with a J-type thermocouple. The maximum contact temperatures measured in different conditions are found to be between 1 000 ℃ and 1 500 ℃ in burn-out conditions. | 6 | Physical and mechanical properties of hot-press sintering ternary CM_2A_8(CaMg_2Al_(16)O_(27))and C_2M_2A_(14)(Ca_2Mg_2Al_(28)O_(46))ceramics显示文摘The new ternary CM_2A_8(CaMg_2Al_(16)O_(27))and C_2M_2A_(14)(Ca_2Mg_2Al_(28)O_(46))pure and dense ceramics were first prepared by a hot-press sintering technique,and their physical and mechanical properties were investigated.The purity of obtained CM_2A_8 and C_2M_2A_(14) ceramics reaches 98.1 wt%and 97.5 wt%,respectively.Their microstructure is dense with few observable pores,and their grain size is about a few dozen microns.For their physical properties,the average apparent porosity of CM_2A_8 and C_2M_2A_(14) ceramics is 0.18% and 0.13%,and their average bulk density is 3.66 g/cm^3 and 3.71 g/cm^3,respectively.The relative density of CM_2A_8 ceramic is 98.12%and that of C_2M_2A_(14)ceramic is 98.67%.The thermal expansivity(50–1400℃)of CM_2A_8 and C_2M_2A_(14) ceramics is 9.24×10^(–6)K^(–1) and 8.92×10^(–6)K^(–1),respectively.The thermal conductivity of CM_2A_8 and C_2M_2A_(14) ceramic is 21.32 W/(m·K)and 23.25 W/(m·K)at 25℃and 18.76 W/(m·K)and 19.42 W/(m·K)as temperature rises to 350℃,respectively.In addition,the mechanical properties are also achieved.For CM_2A_8 ceramic,the flexural strength is 248 MPa,the fracture toughness is 2.17 MPa·m^(1/2),and the Vickers hardness is 12.26 GPa.For C_2M_2A_(14) ceramic,the flexural strength is 262 MPa,the fracture toughness is 2.23 MPa·m^(1/2),and the Vickers hardness is 12.95 GPa. | Bin LI Guangqi LI Haiyang CHEN Junhong CHEN Xinmei HOU Yong LI | 2018 | Journal of Advanced Ceramics2018,7,3: | 4 |

By using an effective method called 'solution-filling (SF)', the average flux of membranes prepared with SF method was improved by about 49% compared to membranes prepared without SF method, and the highest flux of membrane prepared with SF method towards ethanol/H2O mixture at 80℃ was 1.49 kg/(m2·h). | 10 | Preliminary study on modelling, fabrication by photo-chemical etching and in vivo testing of biodegradable magnesium AZ31 stents显示文摘Magnesium metal(Mg)is a promising material for stent applications due to its biocompatibility and ability to be resorbed by the body.Manufacturing of stents by laser cutting has become an industry standard.Our alternative approach uses photo-chemical etching to transfer a pattern of the stent onto a Mg sheet.In this study,we present three stages of creating and validating a stent prototype,which includes design and simulation using finite element analysis(FEA),followed by fabrication based on AZ31 alloy and,finally,in vivo testing in peripheral arteries of domestic pigs.Due to the preliminary character of this study,only six stents were implanted in two domestic farm pigs weighing 25-28 kg and they were evaluated after 28 days,with an interim follow-up on day 14.The left and right superficial femoral,the left iliac,and the right renal artery were selected for this study.The diameters of the stented artery segments were evaluated at the time of implantation,on day 14 and then,finally,on day 28,by quantitative vessel analysis(QVA)using fluoroscopic imaging.Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT)imaging displayed some malposition,breaks,stacking,and protrusion into the lumen at the proximal,distal,and mid-sections of the stented arteries.The stents degraded with time,but simultaneously became embedded in the intima.After 28 days,the animals were euthanized,and explanted vessels were fixed for micro-CT imaging and histology studies.Micro-CT imaging revealed stent morphological and volumetric changes due to the in-body degradation.An in vivo corrosion rate of 0.75 mm/year was obtained by the CT evaluation.The histology suggested no-life threatening effects,although moderate injury,inflammation,and endothelialization scores were observed. | Bala Subramanya Pavan Kumar Kandala Guangqi Zhang Capucine LCorriveau Mark Paquin Madeleine Chagnon Dana Begun Vesselin Shanov | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,6: | 2 |
| 11 | Public health preparedness and responses to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic in South Asia:a situation and policy analysis显示文摘Like rest of the world,the South Asian region is facing enormous challenges with the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.The socio-economic context of the eight South Asian countries is averse to any longterm lockdown program,but the region still observed stringent lockdown close to two months.This paper analyzed major measures in public health preparedness and responses in those countries in the pandemic.The research was based on a situation analysis to discuss appropriate plan for epidemic preparedness,strategies for prevention and control measures,and adequate response management mechanism.Based on the data from March 21 to June 26,2020,it appeared lockdown program along with other control measures were not as effective to arrest the exponential growth of fortnightly COVID-19 cases in Afghanistan,Bangladesh,India,Nepal and Pakistan.However,Bhutan,Maldives and Sri Lanka have been successfully limiting the spread of the disease.The in-depth analysis of prevention and control measures espoused densely populated context of South Asia needs community-led intervention strategy,such as case containment,in order to reverse the growing trend,and adopt the policy of mitigation instead of suppression to formulate COVID-19 action plan.On the other hand,mechanism for response management encompassed a four-tier approach of governance to weave community-led local bodies with state,national and international governance actors for enhancing the countries’emergency operation system.It is concluded resource-crunch countries in South Asia are unable to cope with the disproportionate demand of capital and skilled health care workforce at the time of the pandemic.Hence,response management needs an approach of governance maximization instead of resource maximization.The epidemiologic management of population coupled with suitable public health prevention and control measures may be a more appropriate strategy to strike a balance between economy and population health during the time of pandemic. | Amitabha Sarkar Guangqi Liu Yinzi Jin Zheng Xie Zhi-Jie Zheng | 2020 | Global Health Journal2020,4,4: | 2 |

| 14 | Disruption of crosstalk between LX-2 and liver cancer stem-like cells from MHCC97H cells by DFOG via inhibiting FOXM1显示文摘Hepatic stellate cell(HSC)line LX-2 is activated by liver cancer stem-like cells(LCSLCs)and produces various cytokines that make up most of the hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)microenvironment.The new genistein derivative,7-difluoromethoxyl-5,4-dirboctylgenistein(DFOG),shows anticancer effects in multiple malignancies by controlling forkhead box M1(FOXM1).In this study,we aimed to assess whether DFOG disrupts the crosstalk between human HSC LX-2 cells and LCSLCs.Distinct gen erations of MHCC97H-derived spheres were obtained with the sec ond generation considered as LCSLCs which displayed enhanced self-renewal ability and elevated expression levels of CD133,CD44,and EpCAM proteins,as well as tumorigenicity,as revealed by colony formation assay in vitro and tumorigenicity assay in vivo.LX-2 and MHCC97H cells were co-cultured with/without DFOG(1,5,and 10 pM,respectively)using the transwell system.FOXM1 overexpression and/or knockdown were employed for mechanistic investigations.Our results suggested that Co-CM promoted LX-2 cell transformation into liver cancer-associated HSCs.Meanwhile,FOXM1 was up-regulated and the level of hepatocyte growth factor(HGF)was in creased in LX-2 cells and in the super nata nt after Co-CM stimulati on.Sphere and colony formation abilities in MHCC97H cells,and protein levels of CD133r CD44,and EpCAM,were also markedly elevated.DFOG dose-dependently inhibited the above effects,similar to FOXM1 knockdown in LX-2 cells.FOXM1 overexpression reversed the inhibitory effects of DFOG or FOXM1 knockdown or both on LX-2 cell activation and LCSLC feature induction in MHCC97H cells by LCSLC/LX-2 co-culture.This study demonstrated that DFOG disrupts the crosstalk between HSCs and LCSLCs to suppress LCSLC features via dowrrregulating FOXM1 expression and reducing HGF secretion in HSCs. | A Chen Chang Xu Yimin Luo Lihua Liu Kun Song Guangqi Deng Mengjie Yang Jianguo Cao Liming Yuan Xiang Li | 2019 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2019,51,12: | 2 |
