Interrelationship between chromosome 8 aneuploidy,C-MYC amplification and increased expression in individuals from northern Brazil with gastric adenocarcinoma显示文摘AIM: To investigate chromosome 8 numerical aberra- tions, C-MYC oncogene alterations and its expression in gastric cancer and to correlate these findings with histo- pathological characteristics of gastric tumors. METHODS: Specimens were collected surgically from seven patients with gastric adenocarcinomas. Immu- nostaining for C-MYC and dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for C-MYC gene and chromosome 8 centromere were performed. RESULTS: All the cases showed chromosome 8 aneu- ploidy and C-MYC amplification, in both the diffuse and intestinal histopathological types of Lauren. No significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed between the level ofchromosome 8 ploidy and the site, stage or histological type of the adenocarcinomas. C-MYC high amplification, like homogeneously stained regions (HSRs) and double minutes (DMs), was observed only in the intestinal-type. Structural rearrangement of C-MYC, like translocation, was observed only in the diffuse type. Regarding C-MYC gene, a significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed between the two histological types. The C-MYC protein was expressed in all the studied cases. In the intestinal- type the C-MYC immunoreactivity was localized only in the nucleus and in the diffuse type in the nucleus and cytoplasm. CONCLUSION: Distinct patterns of alterations between intestinal and diffuse types of gastric tumors support the hypothesis that these types follow different genetic path- ways.Danielle Queiroz Calcagno Mariana Ferreira Leal Aline Damaceno Seabra Andre Salim Khayat Elizabeth Suchi Chen Samia Demachki Paulo Pimentel Assumpcao Mario Henrique Girao Faria Silvia Helena Barem Rabenhorst Márcia Valéria Pitombeira Ferreira Marília de Arruda Cardoso Smith Rommel Rodríguez Burbano 2006World Journal of Gastroenterology2006,12,38:9
Renal sympathetic denervation in resistant hypertension显示文摘Resistant hypertension remains a major clinical problem despite the available multidrug therapy.Over the next decades, its incidence will likely increase given that it is strongly associated with older age and obesity.Resistant hypertension patients have an increased cardiovascular risk, thus effective antihypertensive treatment will provide substantial health benefits. The crosstalk between sympathetic nervous system and kidneys plays a crucial role in hypertension. It influences several pathophysiological mechanisms such as the central sympathetic tone, the sodium balance and the systemic neurohumoral activation. In fact, studies using several animal models demonstrated that the renal denervation prevented and attenuated hypertension in multiple species.Large reductions in blood pressure were also observed in malignant hypertension patients submitted to sympathectomy surgeries. However, these approaches had an unacceptably high rates of periprocedural complications and disabling adverse events.Recently,an innovative non-pharmacological therapy that modulates sympathetic activation has been successfully developed.Renal sympathetic percutaneous denervation is an endovascular procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to destroy the autonomic renal nerves running inside the adventitia of renal arteries. This method represents a promising new approach to the strategy of inhibiting the sympathetic nervous system. The aim of this review is to examine the background knowledge that resulted in the development of this hypertension treatment and to critically appraise the available clinical evidence.Mário Santos Henrique Carvalho 2013World Journal of Cardiology2013,5,4:5

Effectiveness of Helicobacter pylori eradication in the treatment of early-stage gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma:An up-to-date meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT)lymphoma(GML)is usually a low-grade B-cell neoplasia strongly associated with Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)-induced chronic gastritis.Clinical practice guidelines currently recommend H.pylori eradication as the preferred initial treatment for early-stage GML.To determine the practical effect of bacterial eradication as the sole initial therapy for early-stage GML,an updated analysis and review of available evidence is imperative.AIM To perform a meta-analysis to assess the rate of complete remission(CR)of H.pylori-positive early-stage GML following bacterial eradication.METHODS We performed independent,computer-assisted literature searches using the PubMed/MEDLINE,Embase,and Cochrane Central databases through September 2022.Prospective and retrospective observational studies evaluating the CR of early-stage GML following bacterial eradication in H.pylori-positive patients. The risk of bias was assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute(JBI)Critical Appraisal Tools. The pooled estimate of the complete histopathological remission rate and respective confidence intervals(95%CI)were calculated following the random-effects model.Heterogeneity and inconsistency were assessed using Cochran’s Q test and I2 statistic, and heterogeneity was defined as P<0.01 and I²>50%,respectively.Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were conducted to explore potential sources of heterogeneity.RESULTS The titles and abstracts of 1576 studies were screened;96 articles were retrieved and selected for full-text reading.Finally,61 studies were included in the proportional meta-analysis(P-MA).Forty-six were prospective and fifteen were retrospective uncontrolled,single-arm,observational studies. The overall risk of bias was low to moderate in all but a single report, with an average critical appraisal score across all studies of 79.02%.A total of 2936 H.pylori-positive early-stage GML patients,in whom H.pylori was successfully eradicated, were included in the analysis. The pooled CR of H.pylori-positive early-stage GML after bacterial eradication was 75.18%(95%CI:70.45%-79.91%).P-MA indicated the substantial heterogeneity in CR reported across studies(I2=92%;P<0.01).Meta-regression analysis identified statistically significant effect modifiers, including the proportion of patients with t(11;18)(q21;q21)-positive GML and the risk of bias in each study.CONCLUSION Comprehensive synthesis of available evidence suggests that H.pylori eradication is effective as the sole initial therapy for early-stage GML.Although the substantial heterogeneity observed across studies limits the interpretation of the pooled overall CR,the present study is a relevant to informing clinical practice.Fabian Fellipe Bueno Lemos Caroline Tianeze de Castro Mariana Santos Calmon Marcel Silva Luz Samuel Luca Rocha Pinheiro Clara Faria Souza Mendes dos Santos Gabriel Lima Correa Santos Hanna Santos Marques Henrique Affonso Delgado Kádima Nayara Teixeira Cláudio Lima Souza Márcio Vasconcelos Oliveira Fabrício Freire de Melo 2023World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,14:2
Faujasite zeolite decorated with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for improving removal and reuse in Pb^2+ions adsorption显示文摘Water pollution caused by heavy metals ions has been gaining attention in recent years, increasing the interest in the development of methodologies for their efficient removal focusing on the adsorption process for these purposes. The current challenge faced by adsorption processes is the adequate adsorbent immobilization for removal and reuse. Thus, the present work aimed at producing a faujasite zeolite nanocomposite decorated with cobalt ferrite nanoparticles for Pb^2+ions adsorption in an aqueous medium improving magnetic removal and reuse. As a result,a high surface area(434.4 m^2·g^-1)for the nanocomposite and an 18.93 emu·g^-1 saturation magnetization value were obtained, indicating magnetic removal in a promising material for adsorption process. The nanocomposite regeneration capacity evaluated by magnetic recovery after 24 h suspension presented a high Pb^2+ion adsorptive capacity(98.4%)in the first cycle.Around 98%of the Pb^2+ions were adsorbed in the second cycle. In this way,the synthesized faujasite:cobalt ferrite nanocomposite reveals itself as a promising alternative in adsorption processes, aiming at a synergic effect of FAU zeolite high adsorptive activity and the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles magnetic activity, allowing for adsorbent recovery from the aqueous medium via magnetic force and successive adsorptive cycles.Elaine C.Paris João O.D.Malafatti Henrique C.Musetti Alexandra Manzoli Alessandra Zenatti Márcia T.Escote 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,7:2
How to manage inflammatory bowel disease during the COVID-19 pandemic:A guide for the practicing clinician显示文摘Managing inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has been a challenge faced by clinicians and their patients, especially concerning whether to proceed with biologics and immunosuppressive agents in the background of a global outbreak of a highly contagious new coronavirus(severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2,SARS-CoV-2).The knowledge about the impact of this virus on patients with IBD,although it is still scarce,is rapidly evolving. In particular, concerns surrounding medications’impact for IBD on the risk of acquiring SARS-CoV-2 infection or developing COVID-19,and potentially exacerbate viral replication and the COVID-19 course, are a current thinking of both practicing clinicians and providers caring for patients with IBD.Managing patients with IBD infected with SARS-CoV-2 depends on both the clinical activity of the IBD and the occasional development and severity of COVID-19.In this review,we summarize the current data regarding gastrointestinal involvement by SARS-CoV-2 and pharmacologic and surgical management for IBD concerning this infection, and the COVID-19 impact on both the patient's psychological functioning and endoscopy services, and we concisely summarize the telemedicine roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.Júlio Maria Fonseca Chebli Natália Sousa Freitas Queiroz Adérson Omar Mourão Cintra Damião Liliana Andrade Chebli Márcia Henriques de Magalhães Costa Rogério Serafim Parra 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,11:2
Murine model to study brain, behavior and immunity during hepatic encephalopathy显示文摘AIM:To propose an alternative model of hepatic encephalopathy(HE) in mice, resembling the human features of the disease.METHODS:Mice received two consecutive intraperitoneal injections of thioacetamide(TAA) at low dosage(300 mg/kg).Liver injury was assessed by serum transaminase levels(ALT) and liver histology(hematoxylin and eosin).Neutrophil infiltration was estimated by confocal liver intravital microscopy.Coagulopathy was evaluated using prolonged prothrombin and partial thromboplastin time.Hemodynamic parameters were measured through tail cuff.Ammonia levels were quantified in serum and brain samples.Electroencephalography(EEG) and psychomotor activity score were performed to show brain function.Brain edema was evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging.RESULTS:Mice submitted to the TAA regime developed massive liver injury,as shown by elevation of serum ALT levels and a high degree of liver necrosis. An intense hepatic neutrophil accumulation occurred in response to TAA-induced liver injury. This led to mice mortality and weight loss, which was associated with severe coagulopathy.Furthermore,TAA-treated mice presented with increased serum and cerebral levels of ammonia,in parallel with alterations in EEG spectrum and discrete brain edema,as shown by magnetic resonance imaging. In agreement with this, neuropsychomotor abnormalities ensued 36 h after TAA,fulfilling several HE features observed in humans. In this context of liver injury and neurological dysfunction,we observed lung inflammation and alterations in blood pressure and heart rate that were indicative of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.CONCLUSION:In summary,we describe a new murine model of hepatic encephalopathy comprising multiple features of the disease in humans, which may provide new insights for treatment.Lindisley Ferreira Gomides Pedro Elias Marques Bruno Engler Faleiros Rafaela Vaz Pereira Sylvia Stella Amaral Thais Reis Lage Gustavo Henrique Souza Resende Patricia Alves Maia Guidine Giselle Foureaux Fabíola Mara Ribeiro Fabiana Paiva Martins Marco Antonio Peliky Fontes Anderson José Ferreira Remo Castro Russo Mauro Martins Teixeira Márcio Flávio Moraes Antonio Lúcio Teixeira Gustavo Batista Menezes 2014World Journal of Hepatology2014,6,4:2

Energetic-protein supplementation in the last 60 days of gestation improves performance of beef cows grazing tropical pastures显示文摘Background: Nutrition is one of the most important factors that affect animal performance, and it therefore also impacts on financial results in beef systems. In this way, finding the best strategy for feeding supplements is of paramount importance. Aiming to evaluate the effect of supplement feeding strategies for beef cows in the last third of gestation, two experiments were conducted. In Experiment 1, 35 pregnant Nellore cows were assigned to a completely randomized design with four treatments: control, which received no supplement; supplementation for the last 30 d of gestation(30-d; 3.0 kg/d); supplementation for the last 60 d of gestation(60-d; 1.5 kg/d); or supplementation for the last 90 d of gestation(90-d; 1.0 kg/d). All supplemented treatments received the same total amount of supplement throughout the experiment: 90 kg(20% of crude protein). A second experiment(Experiment 2) was delineated to evaluate the effects of the amounts offered in Experiment 1 on intake and metabolism. Four multiparous pregnant Nellore cows were assigned to a 4 × 4 Latin square design, with periods of15 d each. Results: There was a linear effect of the number of days of supplementation on calving body weight(BW; P < 0.05)and a quadratic effect on BW change from parturition to d 31 post-calving(P < 0.05), with cows on the 60-d strategy losing less BW post-calving. No difference was found in offspring birth BW(P > 0.10). A significant linear effect on interval from parturition to conception(P < 0.05) was observed, with the highest calving to conception interval being observed in the 90-d strategy. The level of supplementation did not affect forage intake or neutral detergent fiber digestibility(P > 0.10). Nitrogen excreted through urine tended to increase linearly with the level of supplementation(P < 0.10).Conclusion: Providing 1.5 kg of supplement during the last 60 d of gestation improves cow performance after calving, reducing the magnitude of BW lost, and reduces the number of days from calving to re-conception in the following breeding season compared to the usually recommended period of supplementation of 90 d pre-partum.Aline Gomes da Silva Mário Fonseca Paulino Edenio Detmann Henrique Jorge Fernandes Lincoln da Silva Amorim Román Enrique Maza Ortega Victor Valério de Carvalho Josilaine Aparecida da Costa Lima Felipe Henrique de Moura Mariana Benevides Monteiro Jéssika Almeida Bitencourt 2018Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2018,9,1:2
