1Indicators of prognosis after liver transplantation in Chinese hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘AIM: To identify prognostic factors of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), who were treated by orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). METHODS: From January 2000 to October 2006, 165 patients with HCC underwent OLT. Various clinicopathological risk factors for actuarial and recurrence-free survival were identified using the Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify independently predictive factors for actuarial and recurrence-free survival, which were used to propose new selection criteria. We compared the outcome of the subgroup patients meeting different criteria. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method with the log-rank test. RESULTS: The median follow-up was 13.0 mo (2.8-69.5 mo). Overall, 1-, 2-, 3-and 5-year actuarial survival was 73.3%, 45.6%, 35.4% and 32.1%, respectively. One-, 2-, 3-and 5-year overall recurrencefree survival was 67.0%, 44.3%, 34.5% and 34.5%, respectively. In univariate analysis, number of tumors, total tumor size, lobar distribution, differentiation, macrovascular invasion, microvascular invasion, capsulationof the tumor, and lymph node metastasis were found to be associated significantly with actuarial and tumor-free survival. By means of using the multivariate Cox proportional hazards model, total tumor size and macrovas-cular invasion were found to be independent predictors of actuarial and tumor-free survival. When the selection criteria were expanded into the proposed criteria, there was no significant difference in 1-, 2-, 3-and 5-year actuarial and tumor-free survival of the 49 patients who met the proposed criteria (97.6%, 82.8%, 82.8% and 82.8%, and 90.7%, 82.8%, 68.8% and 68.8%, respectively) compared with that of patients who met the Milan or University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) criteria. CONCLUSION: Macrovascular invasion and total tumor diameter are the strongest prognostic factors. 2Ten cities cross-sectional questionnaire survey of children asthma and other allergies in China显示文摘Asthma,rhinitis and eczema(allergic or non-allergic)have increased throughout the world during the last decades,especially among children.Changes in the indoor environment are suspected to be important causes.China has experienced a dramatic change in indoor environmental exposures during the past two decades.However,such changes and their associations with children’s asthma and other health aspects have not been thoroughly studied.China,Children,Homes,Health(CCHH),Phase I,was a cross-sectional questionnaire survey of 48219 children 1–8 years old in 10 Chinese cities during 2010–2012.The questionnaire includes the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood(ISAAC)core health questions and additional questions regarding housing,life habits and outdoor environment.In health analyses,children aged 3–6 years old were included.The prevalences of doctor diagnosed asthma varied from 1.7%to 9.8%(mean 6.8%),a large increase from 0.91%in 1999 and 1.50%in2000.The prevalence of wheeze,rhinitis and atopic eczema(last 12 months)varied from 13.9%to 23.7%,24.0%to 50.8%and4.8%to 15.8%,respectively.Taiyuan had the lowest prevalences of all illnesses and Shanghai the highest,except for wheezewhere the highest value was for Urumqi.We found(1)no obvious association between disease prevalences and ambient PM10concentrations and(2)higher prevalences of disease in humid climates with hot summers and cold winters,but with no centrally heated buildings.Associations between the diseases and economic status as indexed by Gross Domestic Product(GDP)requires further study.ZHANG YinPing LI BaiZhan HUANG Chen YANG Xu QIAN Hua DENG QiHong ZHAO ZhuoHui LI AnGui ZHAO JiaNing ZHANG Xin QU Fang HU Yu YANG Qin WANG Juan ZHANG Ming WANG Fang ZHENG XiaoHong LU Chan LIU ZhiJian SUN YueXia MO JinHan ZHAO YiLi LIU Wei WANG TingTing NORBCK Dan BORNEHAG Carl-Gustaf SUNDELL Jan 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:22

6Indoor environmental quality and the prevalence of childhood asthma and rhinitis in Wuhan area of China显示文摘Indoor environmental quality is suspected to be at least part of the cause of the increasing prevalence of childhood asthma and allergy.This study is part of the China,Children,Homes,Health(CCHH)project,which was designed to identify the risk factors indoors that are associated with prevalence of asthma and allergy among children in China.A cross-sectional questionnaire study was carried out in Wuhan in 2011.The questionnaire was a modified(to Chinese building characteristics)version of a questionnaire used first in Sweden.The parents of 2193 children,aged 1–8 years,replied,a response rate of 91.4%(2193/2400).Prevalences of asthma and allergic symptoms were calculated,and a Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression were used to identify risk factors.Prevalences of health outcomes are'wheezing last 12 months'18.5%,'cough at night last 12 months'15.4%,'doctor-diagnosed asthma'6.0%,'rhinitis last 12 months'48.7%,'doctor-diagnosed allergic rhinitis'17.5%.Factors associated with increased risk for asthma,allergy and related symptoms include living in an urban area,dampness(significant),use of gas for cooking,new dwelling decoration(paint and furniture obtained during pregnancy),keeping pets and breast feeding less than 3months.Factors associated with reduced risk as installing an exhaust fan in the bathroom.Home environmental factors are significantly associated with the prevalence of childhood asthma and rhinitis in Wuhan.Urbanization and dampness problems at home are significant risk factors for doctor diagnosed asthma and allergic rhinitis among children in Wuhan.ZHANG Ming ZHOU ESheng YE Xin SUN YueXia SUNDELL Jan YANG Xu 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:4
7Spontaneous T-symmetry breaking and exceptional points in cavity quantum electrodynamics systems显示文摘Spontaneous symmetry breaking has revolutionized the understanding in numerous fields of modern physics. Here, we theoretically demonstrate the spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking in a cavity quantum electrodynamics system in which an atomic ensemble interacts coherently with a single resonant cavity mode. The interacting system can be effectively described by two coupled oscillators with positive and negative mass, when the two-level atoms are prepared in their excited states. The occurrence of symmetry breaking is controlled by the atomic detuning and the coupling to the cavity mode,which naturally divides the parameter space into the symmetry broken and symmetry unbroken phases.The two phases are separated by a spectral singularity, a so-called exceptional point, where the eigenstates of the Hamiltonian coalesce. 8Effects of home environment and lifestyles on prevalence of atopic eczema among children in Wuhan area of China显示文摘Atopic eczema is a common health problem in children.The prevalence has increased in the past decades.Besides a genetic predisposition,lifestyle factors,dietary habits and indoor environments are thought to be related to its high prevalence.A cross-sectional questionnaire study was carried out in 2011 in the Wuhan area to study associations between home environments and children’s health.The questionnaires were replied to by parents of 2193 children 1 8 years old and the response rate was91.4%(2193/2400).The results show:(1)The prevalence of'eczema symptom ever that lasted for 6 months'was 23.2%;'eczema symptom in the last 12 months'7.4%and'awake at night due to itchy rash'3.4%.(2)Risk factors:Closer to business area(AOR 1.4),moisture related problems(AOR 1.3 2.2),moldy and stuffy odor perception(AOR 1.5),mice observed(AOR 1.8),pet keeping(AOR 1.3),exposure to environmental tobacco smoke(AOR 1.3)and incense(AOR 1.8)were significant risk factors for atopic eczema symptoms ever.Living in an apartment,compared to single family house,was related to more eczema symptom in the last 12 months.Damp clothing/bed sheets and perception of stuffy odor were risk factors for both'eczema symptom in the last 12 months'and'awake due to itchy rash(severe eczema)'.The odds ratio of mice observed for severe eczema was 3.1(95%CI:1.4 6.7).It suggests that urbanization,life style and dampness problems at home were significant risk factors for eczema symptoms among children in Wuhan,China.ZHANG Ming WU Yang YUAN Ye ZHOU ESheng SUNDELL Jan SUN YueXia YANG Xu 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,34:3

101980~2050年大气沉降导致中国森林土壤酸化显示文摘稳定的土壤pH对维持生态系统的结构和功能至关重要.中国是酸沉降最严重的区域,长期高剂量的酸沉降可能将导致土壤pH显著降低,甚至造成严重的区域生态环境问题.然而,目前有关酸沉降对中国森林土壤酸化的影响还未见报道.本文利用土壤酸化过程模型结合长期监测的大气沉降、植物-土壤养分含量数据、社会发展、气候和污染控制情景,评估并预测1980~2050年间大气沉降导致的森林土壤酸化趋势.结果表明:1980~2019年,表层土壤pH和碱基饱和度分别平均下降0.56和18%.氮沉降的贡献小于硫沉降,但它仍在持续增加.预测结果表明,2020~2050年可持续发展结合高强度减排情景相较于不采取措施情景可使土壤pH下降减少60%,但仍不能逆转土壤pH降低.因此,在未来不仅需要继续控制酸性污染物的排放,还需要加强氮的控制,并在土壤酸化高风险区采取相应恢复措施.Qiongyu Zhang Jianxing Zhu Qiufeng Wang Li Xu Mingxu Li Guanhua Dai Jan Mulder Yue Xi Nianpeng He 2022Science Bulletin2022,67,9:2

13Structural and functional basis for pan-CoV fusion inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants with preclinical evaluation显示文摘The COVID-19 pandemic poses a global threat to public health and economy.The continuously emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants present a major challenge to the development of antiviral agents and vaccines.In this study,we identified that EK1 and cholesterol-coupled derivative of EK1,EK1C4,as pan-CoV fusion inhibitors,exhibit potent antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 infection in both lung-and intestine-derived cell lines(Calu-3 and Caco2,respectively).They are also effective against infection of pseudotyped SARS-CoV-2 variants B.1.1.7(Alpha)and B.l.1.248(Gamma)as well as those with mutations in S protein,including N417T,E484K,N501Y,and D614G,which are common in South African and Brazilian variants.Crystal structure revealed that EK1 targets the HR1 domain in the SARS-CoV-2 S protein to block virus-cell fusion and provide mechanistic insights into its broad and effective antiviral activity.Nasal administration of EK1 peptides to hACE2 transgenic mice significantly reduced viral titers in lung and intestinal tissues.EK1 showed good safety profiles in various animal models,supporting further clinical development of EK1-based pan-CoV fusion inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants.Shuai Xia Qiaoshuai Lan Yun Zhu Chao Wang Wei Xu Yutang Li Lijue Wang Fanke Jiao Jie Zhou Chen Hua Qian Wang Xia Cai Yang Wu Jie Gao Huan Liu Ge Sun Jan Munch Frank Kirchhoff Zhenghong Yuan Youhua Xie Fei Sun Shibo Jiang Lu Lu 2021Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2021,6,8:2

16Urbanization in China,ca.1100-1900显示文摘This paper presents new estimates of the development of the urban population and the urbanization ratio for the period spanning the Song and late Qing dynasties.Urbanization is viewed,as in much of the economic historical literature on the topic,as an indirect indicator of economic development and structural change.The development of the urban system can therefore tell us a lot about long-term trends in the Chinese economy between 1100 and 1900.During the Song,the level of urbanization was high,also by international standards--the capital cities of the Song were probably the largest cities in the world.This remained so until the late Ming,but during the Qing there was a downward trend in the level of urbanization from 11%-12% to 7% in the late 18^th century,a level at which it remained until the early 1900s.In our paper we analyse the role that socio-political and economic causes played in this decline,such as the changing character of the Chinese state,the limited impact of overseas trade on the urban system,and the apparent absence of the dynamic economic effects that were characteristic for the European urban system.Yi Xu Bas van Leeuwen Jan Luiten van Zanden 2018Frontiers of Economics in China-Selected Publications from Chinese Universities2018,13,3:1

18Improvement on the Mechanical Performance and Resistance Towards Hydrolysis of Poly(glycolic acid)via Solid-state Drawing显示文摘Poly(glycolic acid)is a biocompatible as well as biocomposable polymer with superior mechanical and barrier properties and,consequently,has found important applications in both medical and packaging fields.However,the high hydrolysis rate in a high humidity environment restricts its application.In this work,a solid-state drawing process after melt extrusion is applied in order to produce fibrous PGA with enhanced mechanical properties and a much better resistance towards hydrolysis.The crystal structure of PGA gradually transformed from spherulites into oriented fibrous crystals in the stretching direction upon solid-state drawing.Meanwhile,both the length of microfibril and the size of lamellae increased initially with the drawing ratio(DR),while the chain-folded lamellae transformed into extended-chain fibrils at high(er)DR.The oriented structures lead to an overall improvement of the mechanical properties of PGA,e.g.,the tensile strength increased from 62.0±1.4 MPa to 910±54 MPa and the elongation at break increased from around 7%to 50%.Meanwhile,the heat capacity of totally mobile amorphous PGA(∆C_(p)^(0)=0.64 J·g^(−1)·℃^(−1))was reported for the first time,which was used to analyze the content of mobile amorphous fraction(XMAF)and rigid amorphous fraction(XRAF).Both the oriented chain-folded lamellae crystals and the tightly arranged RAF are beneficial to prevent water molecules from penetrating the matrix,thus improving the resistance towards hydrolysis.As a consequence,the fibrous PGA with a DR of 5 showed a tensile strength retention rate of 17.3%higher in comparison with the undrawn sample after 7-days accelerated hydrolysis.Therefore,this work provides a feasible method to improve the mechanical and resistance towards hydrolysis performance of PGA,which may broaden its application and prolong the shelf-life of PGA products.Jia-Xuan Li De-Yu Niu Bo Liu Peng-Wu Xu Wei-Jun Yang Pieter Jan Lemstra Pi-Ming Ma 2023Chinese Journal of Polymer Science2023,41,1:1
