| 1 | Non-invasive diagnosis of advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis显示文摘Liver cirrhosis is a common and growing public health problem globally.The diagnosis of cirrhosis portends an increased risk of morbidity and mortality.Liver biopsy is considered the gold standard for diagnosis of cirrhosis and staging of fibrosis.However,despite its universal use,liver biopsy is an invasive and inaccurate gold standard with numerous drawbacks.In order to overcome the limitations of liver biopsy,a number of non-invasive techniques have been investigated for the assessment of cirrhosis.This review will focus on currently available non-invasive markers of cirrhosis.The evidence behind the use of these markers will be highlighted,along with an assessment of diagnostic accuracy and performance characteristics of each test.Non-invasive markers of cirrhosis can be radiologic or serum-based.Radiologic techniques based on ultrasound,magnetic resonance imaging and elastography have been used to assess liver fibrosis.Serum-based biomarkers of cirrhosis have also been developed.These are broadly classified into indirect and direct markers.Indirect biomarkers reflect liver function,which may decline with the onset of cirrhosis.Direct biomarkers,reflect extracellular matrix turnover,and include molecules involved in hepatic fibrogenesis.On the whole,radiologic and serum markers of fibrosis correlate well with biopsy scores,especially when excluding cirrhosis or excluding fibrosis.This feature is certainly clinically useful,and avoids liver biopsy in many cases. | Suraj Sharma Korosh Khalili Geoffrey Christopher Nguyen | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,45: | 28 |
| 2 | Trend analysis and comparison of basic parameters for tunnel blast design models显示文摘One of the most important factors influencing on a tunnel blast efficiency is the proper design of blasting pattern. Among blasting parameters, blasthole diameter and tunnel face area are more significant so that any change in these parameters could finally affect on specific charge and specific drilling. There are mainly two groups of methods for tunnel blast design categorized based on the parallel cuts and angular cuts. In this research, a software for tunnel blast design was developed to analyze the effect and sensitiveness of blasthole diameter and the tunnel face area on blasting results in different blast design models. Using the software, it is quickly possible to determine specific charge, specific drilling and number of blastholes for each blast design model. The relations between both of blasthole diameters and the tunnel face area with the above parameters in different blast design models were then investigated to yield a set of equations with the highest correlations to compare the methods. The results showed that angular method requires more blasthole numbers than parallel method in similar condition(blasthole diameter and tunnel face area). | 4 | Intravenous transplantation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells promotes neural regeneration after traumatic brain injury显示文摘To investigate the supplement of lost nerve cells in rats with traumatic brain injury by intravenous administration of allogenic bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, this study established a Wistar rat model of traumatic brain injury by weight drop impact acceleration method and administered 3 × 106 rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells via the lateral tail vein. At 14 days after cell transplantation, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells differentiated into neurons and astrocytes in injured rat cerebral cortex and rat neurological function was improved significantly. | 5 | Discrete simulation and micromechanical analysis of two-dimensional saturated granular media显示文摘In this study,a novel approach to incorporate the pore water pressure in the discrete element method(DEM) to comprehensively model saturated granular media was developed.A numerical model was constructed based on the DEM by implanting additional routines in the basic DEM code;pore water pressure calculations were used with a two-dimensional(2D) model to simulate the undrained behavior of saturated granular media.This model coupled the interaction of solid particles and the pore fluid in saturated granular media.Finally,several 2D undrained shear tests were simulated.The test results showed that the model could predict the response of the saturated granular soil to shear loading.The effect of initial compaction was investigated.Biaxial tests on dense and loose specimens were conducted,and the effect of the initial density on the change in shear strength and the volume change of the system was investigated.The overall behavior of loose and dense specimens was phenomenologically similar to the real granular material.Constant volume tests were simulated,and the results were compared to those from the coupled model.Induced anisotropy was micromechanically investigated by studying the contact force orientation.The change in anisotropy depended on the modeling scheme.However,the overall responses of the media obtained using the coupled and constant volume methods were similar. | Younes Khalili Ahmad Mahboubi | 2014 | Particuology2014,12,4: | 5 |
| 6 | Asymptomatic seminal infection of herpes simplex virus:impact on male infertility显示文摘In more than half of infertile men,the cause of their infertility is unknown.Several studies revealed the role of viral infections in male infertility.The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) and HSV-2 in semen from asymptomatic infertile male patients,and its association with altered semen parameters.A total of 70 semen samples were collected from infertile men who attended the Research and Clinical Center for Infertility in Yazd,Iran.Semen analysis and diagnostic real-time PCR using specific primers and probes for HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA were performed.Comparison of semen parameters between virally infected and non-infected samples were performed with independent t-test and Mann-Whitney test.Semen analysis showed that infertile men fell into two groups,the male factor group and the unexplained group.HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA was detected in 16 (22.9%) and 10 (14.3%) of 70 semen samples,respectively.All HSV-positive samples had abnormal semen parameters (the male factor group).Although HSV infection was not associated with sperm motility and morphological defects,it was correlated with lower sperm count in the seminal fluid.The findings suggest that asymptomatic seminal infection of HSV plays an important role in male infertility by adversely affecting sperm count. | Seyed Hamidreza Monavari Mostafa Salehi vaziri Mohammadali Khalili Mahmoud Shamsi-Shahrabadi Hossein Keyvani Hamidreza Mollaei Mehdi Fazlalipour | 2013 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,1: | 4 |
| 7 | Fouling of WO3 nanoparticle-incorporated PSf membranes in ultrafiltration of landfill leachate and dairy a combined wastewaters: An investigation using model显示文摘As fouling has always been a major drawback of membrane technology, qualitative and quantitative understanding of membrane fouling mechanisms therefore becomes vital in order to help push membrane separation technologies forward. In this study, firstly, self-cleaning Polysulfone(PSf) membranes were synthesized by incorporation of WO_3nanoparticles(0–2 wt%) and subsequent UV irradiation for efficient ultrafiltration(UF)of landfill leachate and dairy wastewater. The membrane surface properties were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and contact angle analysis. It was found that UV-irradiated membranes exhibited higher percent COD removals due to the hydrophilicity and photocatalytic properties of nano-WO_3. Subsequently, in order to analyze the fouling behavior of the membranes, a set of experimental data from cross-flow ultrafiltration of municipal landfill leachate and industrial dairy wastewater at 25 °C was obtained. A new model of membrane fouling was proposed based on a resistance in series concept and was fitted well with all experimental data sets.Almost all relative errors of prediction provided by the proposed model were less than 2.5%. | 11 | 自体结膜角巩膜缘移植治疗原发性翼状胬肉显示文摘目的:评价自体结膜角巩膜缘移植术治疗原发性翼状胬肉的有效性。
方法:原发性翼状胬肉患者15例(15眼),接受自体结膜角巩膜缘移植术。切除翼状胬肉后,植片的角膜缘部分与翼状胬肉切除处的角膜缘对位缝合,植片的上皮面向上。纤维血管组织在原翼状胬肉区遮盖角膜1mm以上定为复发。
结果:随访平均8mo,所有的患者既无一例复发也无并发症发生。
