| 1 | An epidermal sEMG tattoo-like patch as a new human–machine interface for patients with loss of voice显示文摘Throat cancer treatment involves surgical removal of the tumor,leaving patients with facial disfigurement as well as temporary or permanent loss of voice.Surface electromyography(sEMG)generated from the jaw contains lots of voice information.However,it is difficult to record because of not only the weakness of the signals but also the steep skin curvature.This paper demonstrates the design of an imperceptible,flexible epidermal sEMG tattoo-like patch with the thickness of less than 10μm and peeling strength of larger than 1N cm−1 that exhibits large adhesiveness to complex biological surfaces and is thus capable of sEMG recording for silent speech recognition.When a tester speaks silently,the patch shows excellent performance in recording the sEMG signals from three muscle channels and recognizing those frequently used instructions with high accuracy by using the wavelet decomposition and pattern recognization.The average accuracy of action instructions can reach up to 89.04%,and the average accuracy of emotion instructions is as high as 92.33%.To demonstrate the functionality of tattoo-like patches as a new human–machine interface(HMI)for patients with loss of voice,the intelligent silent speech recognition,voice synthesis,and virtual interaction have been implemented,which are of great importance in helping these patients communicate with people and make life more enjoyable. | Huicong Liu Wei Dong Yunfei Li Fanqi Li Jiangjun Geng Minglu Zhu Tao Chen Hongmiao Zhang Lining Sun Chengkuo Lee | 2020 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1: | 6 |
| 2 | Characterization of bacterial community dynamics in a full-scale drinking water treatment plant显示文摘Understanding the spatial and temporal dynamics of microbial communities in drinking water systems is vital to securing the microbial safety of drinking water.The objective of this study was to comprehensively characterize the dynamics of microbial biomass and bacterial communities at each step of a full-scale drinking water treatment plant in Beijing,China.Both bulk water and biofilm samples on granular activated carbon(GAC) were collected over 9 months.The proportion of cultivable cells decreased during the treatment processes,and this proportion was higher in warm season than cool season,suggesting that treatment processes and water temperature probably had considerable impact on the R2 A cultivability of total bacteria.16 s rRNA gene based 454 pyrosequencing analysis of the bacterial community revealed that Proteobacteria predominated in all samples.The GAC biofilm harbored a distinct population with a much higher relative abundance of Acidobactena than water samples.Principle coordinate analysis and one-way analysis of similarity indicated that the dynamics of the microbial communities in bulk water and biofilm samples were better explained by the treatment processes rather than by sampling time,and distinctive changes of the microbial communities in water occurred after GAC filtration.Furthermore,20 distinct OTUs contributing most to the dissimilarity among samples of different sampling locations and 6 persistent OTUs present in the entire treatment process flow were identified.Overall,our findings demonstrate the significant effects that treatment processes have on the microbial biomass and community fluctuation and provide implications for further targeted investigation on particular bacteria populations. | Cuiping Li Fangqiong Ling Minglu Zhang Wen-Tso Liu Yuxian Li Wenjun Liu | 2017 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,1: | 5 |

| 9 | Efficient control of chronic LCMV infection by a CD4 T cell epitope-based heterologous prime-boost vaccination in a murine model显示文摘CD4^(+)T cells are essential for sustaining CD8^(+)T cell responses during a chronic infection.The adoptive transfer of virus-specific CD4^(+)T cells has been shown to efficiently rescue exhausted CD8^(+)T cells.However,the question of whether endogenous virus-specific CD4^(+)T cell responses can be enhanced by certain vaccination strategies and subsequently reinvigorate exhausted CD8^(+)T cells remains unexplored.In this study,we developed a CD4^(+)T cell epitope-based heterologous prime-boost immunization strategy and examined the efficacy of this strategy using a mouse model of chronic lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus(LCMV)infection.We primed chronically LCMV-infected mice with a Listeria monocytogenes vector that expressed the LCMV glycoprotein-specific I-Ab-restricted CD4^(+)T cell epitope GP61–80(LM-GP61)and subsequently boosted the primed mice with an influenza virus A(PR8 strain)vector that expressed the same CD4^(+)T cell epitope(IAV-GP61).This heterologous prime-boost vaccination strategy elicited strong anti-viral CD4^(+)T cell responses,which further improved both the quantity and quality of the virusspecific CD8^(+)T cells and led to better control of the viral loads.The combination of this strategy and the blockade of the programmed cell death-1(PD-1)inhibitory pathway further enhanced the anti-viral CD8^(+)T cell responses and viral clearance.Thus,a heterologous prime-boost immunization that selectively induces virus-specific CD4^(+)T cell responses in conjunction with blockade of the inhibitory pathway may represent a promising therapeutic approach to treating patients with chronic viral infections. | Ran He Xinxin Yang Cheng Liu Xiangyu Chen Lin Wang Minglu Xiao Jianqiang Ye Yuzhang Wu Lilin Ye | 2018 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2018,15,9: | 1 |

| 20 | Responses of microbial interactions to elevated salinity in activated sludge microbial community显示文摘Biological treatment processes are critical for sewage purification,wherein microbial interactions are tightly associated with treatment performance.Previous studies have focused on assessing how environmental factors(such as salinity)affect the diversity and composition of the microbial community but ignore the connections among microorganisms.Here,we described the microbial interactions in response to elevated salinity in an activated sludge system by performing an association network analysis.It was found that higher salinity resulted in low microbial diversity,and small,complex,more competitive overall networks,leading to poor performance of the treatment process.Subnetworks of major phyla(Proteobacteria,Bacteroidetes,and Chloroflexi)and functional bacteria(such as AOB,NOB and denitrifiers)differed substantially under elevated salinity process.Compared with subnetworks of Nitrosomonadaceae,Nitrosomonas(AOB)made a greater contribution to nitrification under higher salinity(especially 3%)in the activated sludge system.Denitrifiers established more proportion of cooperative relationships with other bacteria to resist 3%salinity stress.Furthermore,identified keystone species playing crucial roles in maintaining process stability were dynamics and less abundant under salinity disturbance.Knowledge gleaned from this study deepened our understanding of microbial interaction in response to elevated salinity in activated sludge systems. | Tao Ya Zhimin Wang Junyu Liu Minglu Zhang Lili Zhang Xiaojing Liu Yuan Li Xiaohui Wang | 2023 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2023,17,5: | 0 |
