Developing individual tree-based models for estimating aboveground biomass of five key coniferous species in China显示文摘Estimating individual tree biomass is critical to forest carbon accounting and ecosystem service modeling. In this study,we developed one-(tree diameter only) and two-variable(tree diameter and height) biomass equations, biomass conversion factor(BCF) models, and an integrated simultaneous equation system(ISES) to estimate the aboveground biomass for five conifer species in China,i.e.,Cunninghamia lanceolata(Lamb.) Hook.,Pinus massoniana Lamb.,P.yunnanensis Faranch,P.tabulaeformis Carr.and P.elliottii Engelm.,based on the field measurement data of aboveground biomass and stem volumes from 1055 destructive sample trees across the country. We found that all three methods, including the one-and two-variable equations, could adequately estimate aboveground biomass with a mean prediction error less than 5%,except for Pinus yunnanensis which yielded an error of about 6%.The BCF method was slightly poorer than the biomass equation and the ISES methods. The average coefficients of determination(R^2) were 0.944,0.938 and 0.943 and the mean prediction errors were 4.26,4.49 and 4.29% for the biomass equation method, the BCF method and the ISES method, respectively. The ISES method was the best approach for estimating aboveground biomass, which not only had high accuracy but also could estimate stocking volumes simultaneously that was compatible with aboveground biomass. In addition,we found that it is possible to develop a species-invariant one-variable allometric model for estimating aboveground biomass of all the five coniferous species. The model had an exponent parameter of 7/3 and the intercept parameter a_0 could be estimated indirectly from stem basic density(a_0= 0.294 q).Weisheng Zeng Liyong Fu Ming Xu Xuejun Wang Zhenxiong Chen Shunbin Yao 2018Journal of Forestry Research2018,29,5:5

Mapping the potential distribution suitability of 16 tree species under climate change in northeastern China using Maxent modelling显示文摘Knowledge on the potential suitability of tree species to the site is very important for forest management planning.Natural forest distribution provides a good reference for afforestation and forest restoration. In this study,we developed species distribution model(SDM)for 16 major tree species with 2,825 permanent sample plots with natural origin from Chinese National Forest Inventory data collected in Jilin Province using the Maxent model.Three types of environmental factors including bioclimate, soil and topography with a total of 33 variables were tested as the input. The values of area under the curve(AUC,one of the receiver operating characteristics of the Maxent model)in the training and test datasets were between 0.784 and 0.968,indicating that the prediction results were quite reliable. The environmental factors affecting the distribution of species were ranked in terms of their importance to the species distribution.Generally, the climatic factors had the greatest contribution, which included mean diurnal range, annual mean temperature, temperature annual range, and iosthermality. But the main environmental factors varied with tree species.Distribution suitability maps under current(1950-2000)and future climate scenarios(CCSM4-RCP 2.6 and RCP 6.0 during 2050)were produced for 16 major tree species in Jilin Province using the model developed. The predicted current and future ranges of habitat suitability of the 16 tree species are likely to be positively and negatively affected by future climate.Seven tree species were found to benefit from future climate including B etula costata,Fraxinus mandshurica,Juglans mandshurica,Phellodendron amurense,Populus ussuriensis,Quercus mongolica and Ulmus pumila;five tree species will experience decline in their suitable habitat including B.platyphylla,Tilia mongolica,Picea asperata,Pinus sylvestris,Pinus koraiensis;and four(Salix koreensis,Abies fabri,Pinus densiflora and Larix olgensis)showed the inconsistency under RCP 2.6 and RCP 6.0 scenarios. The maps of the habitat suitability can be used as a basis for afforestation and forest restoration in northeastern China. The SDMs could be a potential tool for forest management planning.Dan Liu Xiangdong Lei Wenqiang Gao Hong Guo Yangsheng Xie Liyong Fu Yuancai Lei Yutang Li Zhuoli Zhang Shouzheng Tang 2022Journal of Forestry Research2022,33,6:2

Maximum likelihood estimation of nonlinear mixed-effects models with crossed random effects by combining first-order conditional linearization and sequential quadratic programming显示文摘Nonlinear mixed-eirects (NLME) modek have become popular in various disciplines over the past several decades. However, the existing methods for parameter estimation imple-mented in standard statistical packages such as SAS and R/S-Plus are generally limited k) single-or multi-level NLME models that only allow nested random effects and are unable to cope with crossed random effects within the framework of NLME modeling. In t his study,wc propose a general formulation of NLME models that can accommodate both nested and crassed random effects, and then develop a computational algorit hm for parameter estimation based on normal assumptions. The maximum likelihood estimation is carried out using the first-order conditional expansion (FOCE) for NLME model linearization and sequential quadratic programming (SCJP) for computational optimization while ensuring positive-definiteness of the estimated variance-covariance matrices of both random effects and error terms. The FOCE-SQP algorithm is evaluated using the height and diameter data measured on trees from Korean larch (L.olgeiisis var,Chang-paienA.b) experimental plots aa well as simulation studies. We show that the FOCE-SQP method converges fast with high accuracy.Applications of the general formulation of NLME models are illustrated with an analysis of the Korean larch data.Liyong Fu Mingliang Wang Zuoheng Wang Xinyu Song Shouzheng Tang 2019International Journal of Biomathematics2019,12,5:1

Heat Transfer Characteristics outside the Condenser of a Rotating Heat Pipe Grinding Wheel with a Lateral Air Impinging Jet显示文摘This study numerically analyzed the heat transfer characteristics outside the condenser of a rotating heat pipe grinding wheel(RHP-GW).The goal of this investigation is to determine the optimal structure and parameters for the condenser section of RHP-GW.Different fin height(f=0-7 mm),rotational Reynolds number(Rer=1602-6408)and jet Reynolds number(Rej=42379-108302)were analyzed under input heat flux of 4000 W/m2.A fully developed flow was imposed at the outlet of the nozzles. Results showed that the optimal heat transfer rate was obtained for fin height of 5 mm,which improved the average Nusselt number by 84%compared to the structure without fins.A critical Rej for each Rer that the impinging jet can reach the condenser section was found. The critical Rej value increases with Rer,which is in the range from 42379 to 61215 and 61215 to 80050 for Rer=6408 and Rer=9610,respectively.CHEN Jiajia ZHANG Liyong FU Yucan QIAN Ning JIANG Huafei YANG Lin 2021Journal of Thermal Science2021,30,2:1
Generalized or general mixed-effect modelling of tree morality of Larix gmelinii subsp.principis-rupprechtii in Northern China显示文摘Tree mortality models play an important role in predicting tree growth and yield, but existing mortality models for Larix gmelinii subsp.principis-rupprechtii,an important species used for regeneration and afforestation in northern China, have overlooked potential regional influences on tree mortality. This study used data acquired from 102 temporary sample plots(TSPs)in natural stands of Prince Rupprecht larch in the state-owned Guandi Mountain Forest(n=67)and state-owned Boqiang Forest(n=35)in northern China. To model stand-level tree mortality,we compared seven model forms of county data.Three continuous(dominant height, plot mean diameter, and basal area per hectare)and one dummy variable with two levels(region)were used as fixed effects variables.Tree morality variations caused by forest blocks were accounted for using forest blocks as a random effect in selected models. Results showed that tree mortality significantly positively correlated with stand basal area and dominant height, but negatively correlated with stand mean diameter.Incorporating both the dummy variables and random effects into the tree mortality models significantly increased the fitting improvements, and Hurdle Poisson mixed-effects model showed the most attractive fit statistics(largest R^(2)and smallest RMSE)when employing leave-one-out cross-validation.These mixed-effects dummy variable models will be useful for accurately predicting Larix tree mortality in different regions.Xiao Zhou Liyong Fu Ram PSharma Peng He Yuancai Lei Jinping Guo 2021Journal of Forestry Research2021,32,6:0
Rationally Design of Near Infrared Light Responsive Micro-Photoelectrodes for In Vivo Sensing of Neurotransmitter Molecules in Mouse Brain显示文摘The accurate quantification of neurotransmitter molecules is an indispensable means to reveal the physiological mechanisms of neuro movement in molecular level. However, existing detection strategies cannot fully meet practical needs, and the on-site and in vivo detection of neurotransmitters in brain remains a great challenge. Here,we report the development of a near infrared light responsive photo-electrochemical(PEC)detection method for in vivo quantification of neurotransmitter dopamine in mouse brain.Under guidance of density function theory calculations,a combination strategy of non-metal cation doping and defect engineering is introduced to rationally design the micro-photoelec-trodes with excellent biocompatibility and stability and implements the in vivo PEC detection of dopamine in mouse brain. It opens up a new way for the accurate in vivo detection of biomolecules and allows researchers to make novel inquiries for long-standing questions in a new way.Yina Zhao Wenlong Wu Baihe Fu Liyong Gan Zhonghai Zhang 2020Chinese Journal of Chemistry2020,38,3:0
Analysis of Basal Area for Chinese Fir Plantation Using Two Kinds of Nonlinear Mixed Effects Model(Two Levels)显示文摘Nonlinear mixed effects model(NLMEM) is based on the relationship between the fixed and random effects in the regression function. The NLMEM has a competitive advantage in analyzing repeated measures data, the longitudinal data and multilevel data. This paper chose two kinds of two-level nonlinear mixed model to analyze basal area growth for Chinese Fir(Cunninghamia lanceolata). Model 1 is a general two-level NLMEM and Model 2 is based on Model 1 to further consider the fixed effects parameters changes with a specific factor. Firstly, through the analysis of these two models, this paper defined the basic model to build the two-level NLMEM.Secondly,665 kinds of models derived from Model 1 and 2 703 kinds of models derived from Model 2 were calculated and compared. The results showed that:for Model 1,there were 57 kinds of models converging, and when the formal parameter b0 considered the block effects and plot effects,b1 and b4 only considered the block effects, the model fitted the best;and for Model 2,there were 24 kinds of model converging, and when the formal parameter bs considered the block effects and plot effects,b1 only considered block effects and the fixed effects b0 changed with any level of block level, Model 2 fitted the best. Finally,by comparing the traditional nonlinear regression model,Model 1 and Model 2,the results showed that Model 1 and Model 2 fitted better than the traditional nonlinear regression, and Model 2 was best fitting model.Fu Liyong Li Yongci Li Chunming Tang Shouzheng 2012Chinese Forestry Science and Technology2012,11,3:0
Study of Dominant Height for Chinese Fir Plantation Using Two-Level Nonlinear Mixed Effects Model显示文摘Nonlinear mixed effects model(NLMEM) is built on the relationship of the fixed and random effects in the regression function. The NLMEM has an obvious comparative advantage in analyzing the longitudinal data, repeated measures data and multilevel data.Two-level NLMEM is used to analyze the dominant height for Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata). The authors outline the two-level NLMEM and introduce the parameters estimation method of the model.Based on five common Richard and Logistic models, the mixed model is built. The modeling data are used to calculate and compare with 19 models derived from each based model, and 5 optimal mixed models are built.Compared the 5 optimal mixed models with traditional regression models,it is showed that the two-level NLMEM has a better fitting effect than the regression model.Fu Liyong Li Yongci Li Chunming Tang Shouzheng 2012Chinese Forestry Science and Technology2012,11,3:0
