| 1 | Overexpression of Slug is associated with malignant progression of esophageal adenocarcinoma显示文摘AIM: To characterise expression of known E-cadherin repressors; Snail, Slug and Twist in the development of esophageal adenocarcinoma. METHODS: E-cadherin, Slug, Snail and Twist mRNA expression in Barrett's metaplasia and esophageal adenocarcinoma specimens was examined by real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Semi-quantitative immunohistochemistry was used to examine cellular localisation and protein levels. The effect of Slug on epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers was examined by transfection of Slug into an adenocarcinoma line OE33.RESULTS: Cellular localisation of Slug in Barrett's metaplasia was largely cytoplasmic whilst in adenocarcinoma it was nuclear. Semi-quantitative analysis indicated that Slug was more abundant in adenocarcinoma compared to matched Barrett's metaplastic specimens. Snail and Twist were expressed in adenocarcinoma but were cytoplasmic in location and not induced compared to Barrett's mucosa. These observations were supported by mRNA studies where only Slug mRNA was shown to be over-expressed in adenocarcinoma and inversely correlated to E-cadherin expression. | 3 | MicroRNAs and immunity in periodontal health and disease显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are critical regulators of the host immune and inflammatory response against bacterial pathogens. In the present review, we discuss target genes, target gene functions, the potential regulatory role of miRNAs in periodontal tissues, and the potential role of miRNAs as biomarkers and therapeutics. In periodontal disease, miRNAs exert control over all aspects of innate and adaptive immunity, including the functions of neutrophils, macrophages, dendritic cells and T and B cells. Previous human studies have highlighted some key miRNAs that are dysregulated in periodontitis patients. In the present study, we mapped the major miRNAs that were altered in our reproducible periodontitis mouse model relative to control animals. The miRNAs that were upregulated as a result of periodontal disease in both human and mouse studies included miR-15 a, miR-29 b, miR-125 a, miR-146 a,miR-148/148 a and miR-223, whereas miR-92 was downregulated. The association of individual miRNAs with unique aspects of periodontal disease and their stability in gingival crevicular fluid underscores their potential as markers for periodontal disease progression or healthy restitution. | 5 | Acute kidney injury from different poisonous substances显示文摘AIM To report our experience of acute kidney injury(AKI) developed after exposure to poisonous substance.METHODS Retrospective study where data was collected from case records of patients coming to this institute during January 1990 to May 2016.This institution is a tertiary care center for renal care in the metropolitan city of Karachi,Pakistan.History of ingested substance,symptoms on presentation,basic laboratory tests on arrival,mode of treatment and outcome were recorded from all patients and are presented here.Patients developing AKI after snake envenomation or scorpion stings are not included in this study.RESULTS During studied period 184 cases of AKI developing after poisoning were seen at our institution.The largest group was from paraphenyline diamine poisoning comprising 135 patients,followed by methanol in 8,organophosphorus compounds in 5,paraquat in 5,copper sulphate in 5,tartaric acid in 4,phenobarbitone in 3 and benzodiazipines,datura,rat killer,fish gall bladder,arsenic,boiler water,ammonium dichromate,acetic acid and herbs with lesser frequency.In 8 patients multiple substances were ingested in combination.Renal replacement therapy was required in 96% of patients.Complete recovery was seen in 72.28% patients,20% died during acute phase of illness.CONCLUSION It is important to report poisonous substances causing vital organ failure to increase awareness among general population as well as health care providers. | Rubina Naqvi | 2017 | World Journal of Nephrology2017,6,3: | 4 |

| 7 | Doping Induced Tailoring in the Morphology,Band-Gap and Ferromagnetic Properties of Biocompatible ZnO Nanowires, Nanorods and Nanoparticles显示文摘The modification of nanostructured materials is of great interest due to controllable and unusual inherent properties in such materials. Single phase Fe doped Zn O nanostructures have been fabricated through simple, versatile and quick low temperature solution route with reproducible results. The amount of Fe dopant is found to play a significant role for the growth of crystal dimension. The effect of changes in the morphology can be obviously observed in the structural and micro-structural investigations, which may be due to a driving force induced by dipole-dipole interaction. The band gap of Zn O nanostructures is highly shifted towards the visible range with increase of Fe contents, while ferromagnetic properties have been significantly improved.The prepared nanostructures have been found to be nontoxic to SH-SY5 Y Cells. | 8 | Does strict environmental regulation enhance the global value chains position of China's industrial sector?显示文摘Given the vital importance of global value chains(GVCs)position for a country's international competitiveness,this paper tries to investigate the impacts of environmental regulation on the GVCs position of China's industrial sector.Using the latest value-added decomposition method,we first measure the GVCs position of China's industrial sector from 2003 to 2014.Subsequently,both two-stage least squares(2 SLS)method with panel data and mediating effect model are employed to empirically examine the effects of environmental regulation on China's position in GVCs.The results indicate that environmental regulation has significantly upgraded the GVCs position of China's industrial sector,and the effect is more evident for the sub-sectors with originally lower GVCs position.The mediation effect test shows that increasing R&D investment is an important channel through which environmental regulation affects the GVCs position of China's industrial sector,which verifies the existence of the Porter hypothesis.Further analysis finds that the enhancement of GVCs position of China's industrial sector caused by environmental regulation is mainly achieved through reducing the backward GVCs position. | Jin-Chao Wang Zhi-Da Jin Mian Yang Sameen Naqvi | 2021 | Petroleum Science2021,18,6: | 2 |
| 9 | H-NS family protein MvaU downregulates phenazine-1-carboxylic acid(PCA)biosynthesis via binding to an AT-rich region within the promoter of the phz2 gene cluster in the rhizobacterium Pseudomonas strain PA1201显示文摘Histone-like nucleoid-structuring(H-NS)proteins are key regulators in gene expression silencing and in nucleoid compaction.The H-NS family member proteins MvaU in Pseudomonas aeruginosa are thought to bind the same AT-rich regions of chromosomes and function to coordinate the control of a common set of genes.Here,we explored the molecular mechanism by which MvaU controls PCA biosynthesis in P.aeruginosa PA1201.We present evidence suggesting that MvaU is self-regulated.Deletion of mvaU significantly increased PCA production,and PCA production sharply decreased when mvaU was over-expressed.MvaU transcriptionally repressed phz2 cluster expression and consequently reduced PCA biosynthesis.β-galactosidase assays confirmed that base pairing near the35 box is required when MvaU regulates PCA production in PA1201.Electrophoretic mobility shift assays(EMSA)and additional point mutation analysis demonstrated that MvaU directly bound to an AT-rich motif within the promoter of the phz2 cluster.Chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)analysis also indicated that MvaU directly bound to the P5 region of the phz2 cluster promoter.MvaU repression of PCA biosynthesis was independent of QscR and OxyR in PA1201 and neither PCA or H2O2 were the environmental signals that induced mvaU expression.These findings detail a new MvaU-dependent regulatory pathway of PCA biosynthesis in PA1201 and provide a foundation to increase PCA fermentation titer by genetic engineering. | Yun-Ling Fang Ying Cui Lian Zhou Chitti Thawai Tatheer Alam Naqvi Hong-Yan Zhang Ya-Wen He | 2021 | Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2021,6,4: | 2 |
| 10 | 三维经胸超声心动图定位诊断二尖瓣脱垂的评价显示文摘目的评价三维经胸超声心动图(3DTYE)定位诊断二尖瓣脱垂的可靠性。方法接受二尖瓣修补成形术的二尖瓣脱垂患者30例,性别不限,年龄15—64岁,体重43—118kg,ASAII一Ⅳ级“患者术前进行3DTrE检查,术中行多平面二维经食管超声心动图(2DTEE)检查,以术中探查为标准计算3DTrE定位诊断二尖瓣脱垂的敏感度、特异度、准确度,3DTYE与2DTEE的定位诊断结果进行Kappa一致性检验。结果3DTYE图像满意率为93%,2DTEE图像满意率为100%;3DTrE定位诊断二尖瓣脱垂的敏感度88%、特异度95%、准确度93%;3DTIE与2DTEE定位诊断二尖瓣脱垂的结果一致性满意(K=0.88,P〈0.01)。结论3DTTE定位诊断二尖瓣脱垂的敏感度、特异度和准确度较高,临床上可考虑作为2DTEE的替代方法。 | 张晶 李立环 Tasneem Z Naqvi | 2009 | 中华麻醉学杂志2009,29,7: | 2 |
