1Helicobacter pylori antibiotic resistance in Iran显示文摘AIM: To examine the frequency of antibiotic resistance in Iranian Helicobacter pylori(H pylori) strains isolated from two major hospitals in Tehran.METHODS: Examination of antibiotic resistance was performed on 120 strains by modified disc diffusion test and PCR-RFLP methods. In addition, in order to identify the possible causes of the therapeutic failure in Iran, we also determined the resistance of these strains to the most commonly used antibiotics (metronidazole, amoxicillin,and tetracycline) by modified disc diffusion test.RESULTS: According to modified disc diffusion test, 1.6% of the studied strains were resistant to amoxicillin, 16.7% to clarithromycin, 57.5% to metronidazole, and there was no resistance to tetracycline. Of the clarithromycin resistant strains, 73.68% had the A2143G mutation in the 23S rRNA gene, 21.05% A2142C, and 5.26% A2142G.None of the sensitive strains were positive for any of the three point mutations. Of the metronidazole resistant strains, deletion in rdxA gene was studied and detected in only 6 (5%) of the antibiogram-based resistant strains.None of the metronidazole sensitive strains possessed rdxA gene deletion.CONCLUSION: These data show that despite the fact that clarithromycin has not yet been introduced to the Iranian drug market as a generic drug, nearly 20% rate of resistance alerts toward the frequency of macrolide resistance strains, which may be due to the widespread prescription of erythromycin in Iran. rdxA gene inactivation,if present in Iranian H pylori strains, may be due to other genetic defects rather than gene deletion.Marjan Mohammadi Delaram Doroud Nazanin Mohajerani Sadegh Massarrat 2005World Journal of Gastroenterology2005,11,38:8
2Interventions of natural and synthetic agents in inflammatory bowel disease, modulation of nitric oxide pathways显示文摘Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)refers to a group of disorders characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal(GI)tract.The elevated levels of nitric oxide(NO)in serum and affected tissues;mainly synthesized by the inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)enzyme;can exacerbate GI inflammation and is one of the major biomarkers of GI inflammation.Various natural and synthetic agents are able to ameliorate GI inflammation and decrease iNOS expression to the extent comparable with some IBD drugs.Thereby,the purpose of this study was to gather a list of natural or synthetic mediators capable of modulating IBD through the NO pathway.Electronic databases including Google Scholar and PubMed were searched from 1980 to May 2018.We found that polyphenols and particularly flavonoids are able to markedly attenuate NO production and iNOS expression through the nuclear factorκB(NF-κB)and JAK/STAT signaling pathways.Prebiotics and probiotics can also alter the GI microbiota and reduce NO expression in IBD models through a broad array of mechanisms.A number of synthetic molecules have been found to suppress NO expression either dependent on the NF-κB signaling pathway(i.e.,dexamethasone,pioglitazone,tropisetron)or independent from this pathway(i.e.,nicotine,prednisolone,celecoxib,β-adrenoceptor antagonists).Co-administration of natural and synthetic agents can affect the tissue level of NO and may improve IBD symptoms mainly by modulating the Toll like receptor-4 and NF-κB signaling pathways.Aida Kamalian Masoud Sohrabi Asl Mahsa Dolatshahi Khashayar Afshari Shiva Shamshiri Nazanin Momeni Roudsari Saeideh Momtaz Roja Rahimi Mohammad Abdollahi Amir Hossein Abdolghaffari 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,24:5
3A novel visible-light Nd-doped CdTe photocatalyst for degradation of Reactive Red 43:Synthesis,characterization,and photocatalytic properties显示文摘Novel high-efficiency visible-light-sensitive Nd-doped Cd Te nanoparticles were prepared with various doping concentrations of neodymium ion by a facile hydrothermal method. The reaction products were analyzed via X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy techniques. Red shift was seen in the absorption band edge peak in the UV-Vis absorbance spectrum with increasing Nd content. The XRD and XPS results confirmed that Nd ions successfully replaced Cd atoms and were incorporated into the crystal lattice of Cd Te. SEM and TEM images indicated spherical structure and high crystallinity. Even at a very low Nd/Cd Te molar ratio of 2 mol.%, Nd doping could greatly enhance the photocatalytic activity of Cd Te. The photocatalytic activity of Nd-doped Cd Te nanoparticles was evaluated by monitoring the decolorization of RRed 43 in aqueous solution under visible-light irradiation. The color removal efficiency of Nd0.08Cd0.92 Te and pure Cd Te were 83.14% and 14.32% after 100 min of treatment, respectively. Among different amounts of the doping agent, 8 mol.% Nd indicated the highest decolorization. 4Exploring the contribution of the mitochondrial disulfide relay system to Parkinson’s disease:the PINK1/CHCHD4 interplay显示文摘Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a common movement disorder of the elderly caused by the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta of the brain.Both environmental and genetic factors pointed out mitochondrial dysfunction as a major cause of neurodegeneration in PD.Pioneering studies using mitochondrial toxins revealed their ability to trigger dopaminergic cell death and irreversible parkinsonism in different animal models(Poewe et al.,2017).Typical features of mitochondrial dysfunction have been also observed in the human brain of idiopathic PD cases,showing alterations of respiratory chain complex I and IV activity,accumulation of mtDNA deletions and increased oxidative stress(Bender et al.,2006).Moreover,a number of genes found mutated in familial PD forms encode for proteins involved in the maintenance of mitochondrial homeostasis and quality control.Among these,the PINK1 gene encodes a mitochondrial serine/threonine kinase implicated in key neuroprotective functions,including mitophagy,regulation of mitochondrial transport,control of the mitochondria/endoplasmic reticulum crosstalk and calcium homeostasis(Brunelli et al.,2020).Giuseppe Arena Nazanine Modjtahedi Rejko Kruger 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,11:3
5AIF-regulated oxidative phosphorylation supports lung cancer development显示文摘Cancer is a major and still increasing cause of death in humans. Most cancer cells have a fundamentally different metabolic profile from that of normal tissue. This shift away from mitochondrial ATP synthesis via oxidative phosphorylation towards a high rate of glycolysis, termed Warburg effect, has long been recognized as a paradigmatic hallmark of cancer, supporting the increased biosynthetic demands of tumor cells. Here we show that deletion of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) in a Kras^G12D-driven mouse lung cancer model resulted in a marked survival advantage, with delayed tumor onset and decreased malignant progression. Mechanistically, Aif deletion leads to oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) deficiency and a switch in cellular metabolism towards glycolysis in non-transformed pneumocytes and at early stages of tumor development. Paradoxically, although Aif-deficient cells exhibited a metabolic Warburg profile, this bioenergetic change resulted in a growth disadvantage of Kras^G12D-driven as well as Kras wild-type lung cancer cells. Cell-autonomous re-expression of both wild-type and mutant AIF (displaying an intact mitochondrial, but abrogated apoptotic function) in Aif-knockout Kras^G12D mice restored OXPHOS and reduced animal survival to the same level as AIF wild-type mice. In patients with non-small cell lung cancer, high AIF expression was associated with poor prognosis. 6Smart machine learning or discovering meaningful physical and chemical contributions through dimensional stacking显示文摘Despite remarkable advances in characterization techniques of functional materials yielding an ever growing amount of data,the interplay between the physical and chemical phenomena underpinning materials’functionalities is still often poorly understood.Dimensional reduction techniques have been used to tackle the challenge of understanding materials’behavior,leveraging the very large amount of data available.Here,we present a method for applying physical and chemical constraints to dimensional reduction analysis,through dimensional stacking.Compared to traditional,uncorrelated techniques,this approach enables a direct and simultaneous assessment of behaviors across all measurement parameters,through stacking of data along specific dimensions as required by physical or chemical correlations.The proposed method is applied to the nanoscale electromechanical relaxation response in(1−x)PMN-xPT solid solutions,enabling a direct comparison of electric field-and chemical composition-dependent contributors.A poling-like,and a relaxation-like behavior with a domain glass state are identified,and their evolution is tracked across the phase diagram.The proposed dimensional stacking technique,guided by the knowledge of the underlying physics of correlated systems,is valid for the analysis of any multidimensional dataset,opening a spectrum of possibilities for multidisciplinary use.Lee A.Griffin Iaroslav Gaponenko Shujun Zhang Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:2

16Investigation of a ship resonance through numerical simulation显示文摘Understanding dynamic stability of a ship on a resonance frequency is important because comparatively smaller external forces and moments generate larger motions.The roll motion is most susceptible because of smaller restoring moments.Most studies related to the failure modes such as parametric roll and dead ship condition,identified by second generation of intact stability criteria(SGISC)are performed at a resonance frequency.However,the nature of resonance,where the model experiences an incremental roll motion,has not been well understood.In this study,nonlinear unsteady computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations were conducted to investigate the resonance phenomenon using a containership under a sinusoidal roll exciting moment.To capture the complexity of the phenomenon,simulations were conducted over a range of frequencies to cover the resonance frequency including lower and higher amplitudes.In addition to the resonance frequency,the phase shift between roll exciting moment and roll angle,as well as the phase difference between acceleration and roll angle,were found to have significant effects on the occurrence of resonance.S.S.Kianejad Hossein Enshaei Jonathan Duffy Nazanin Ansarifard 2020Journal of Hydrodynamics2020,32,5:1
