| 1 | Removal of metals by sorghum plants from contaminated land显示文摘The growth of high biomass crops facilitated by optimal of agronomic practices has been considered as an alternative to phytoremediation of soils contaminated by heavy metals. A field trial was carried out to evaluate the phytoextraction effciency of heavy metals by three varieties of sweet sorghum (Sorghum biocolor L.), a high biomass energy plant. Ethylene diamine tetraacetate (EDTA), ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) and ammonium sulphate ((NH4)2SO4) were tested for their abilities to enhance the removal of heavy metals Pb, Cd, Zn, and Cu by sweet sorghum from a contaminated agricultural soil. Sorghum plants always achieved the greatest removal of Pb by leaves and the greatest removal of Cd, Zn and Cu by stems. There was no significant difference among the Keller, Rio and Mray varieties of sweet sorghums in accumulating heavy metals. EDTA treatment was more effcient than ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate in promoting Pb accumulation in sweet sorghum from the contaminated agricultural soil. The application of ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulphate increased the accumulation of both Zn and Cd in roots of sorghum plants. | 2 | Large-eddy simulations of the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability of rectangular interfaces accelerated by shock waves显示文摘A parallel algorithm and code MVFT(multi-viscous-fluid and turbulence) of large-eddy simulation(LES) is developed from our MVPPM(multi-viscous-fluid piecewise parabolic method),and performed to solve the multi compressible Navier-Stokes(N-S) equations.The effect of the unresolved subgrid-scale(SGS) motions on the large scales is represented by different SGS stress models in LES.A Richtmyer-Meshkov instability experiment of the evolution of a rectangular block of SF6,which occupies half of the height of the shock tube test section,following the interaction with a planar shock wave,is numerically and exhaustively simulated by this code.The comparison between experimental and simulated images of the evolving SF6 block shows that they are consistent.The numerical simulations reproduce the complex developing process of SF6 block,which grows overturningly.The geometric quantities that characterize the extents of SF6 block are also compared in detail between numerical simulations and experiment with good agreements between them,a quantitative demonstration of the developing law of SF6 block.There is an evident discrepancy between the three numerical simulations for the maximum position of the right edge of block at the late stage,because the right interface grows complicated and the dissipation is different for different SGS models.The SGS turbulent dissipation,molecular viscosity dissipation and SGS turbulent kinetic energy have been studied and analyzed.They have a similar distribution to the large eddy structures.The SGS turbulent dissipation is much greater than the molecular viscosity dissipation;the SGS turbulent dissipation of Vreman model is smaller than the Smagorinsky model.In general,the simulated results of Vreman SGS model are better compared with the dynamic viscosity and Smagorinsky SGS model.The vorticity and circulation deposition on the block interface have also been investigated. | WANG Tao,BAI JingSong,LI Ping & LIU Kun Institute of Fluid Physics,China Academy of Engineering Physics,Mianyang 621900,China | 2010 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,5: | 8 |
| 3 | Effects of typhoon Matsa on ionospheric TEC显示文摘The effects of typhoon Matsa on the ionosphere are studied by using GPS-TEC data observed at about 50 GPS stations.It is shown that the ionosphere has been already influenced and TEC tends to increase before the landing of Matsa,and the difference of TEC from its monthly median over the typhoon area is about 5 TECU.With the landing of Matsa,both the magnitude and the area of increased TEC decrease.One day after the landing of Matsa,TEC reaches its minimum and is lower than the monthly median.In comparison of TEC along the typhoon's path with that along three reference paths far from the typhoon,it is found that typhoon's impact on TEC can be fully distinguished.The evolution of TEC variation has the same tendency as reported typhoon-induced foF2. | MAO Tian WANG JingSong YANG GuangLin YU Tao PING JinSong SUO YuCheng | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,8: | 8 |
| 4 | Numerical simulation of the hydrodynamic instability experiments and flow mixing显示文摘Based on the numerical methods of volume of fluid (VOF) and piecewise parabolic method (PPM) and parallel circumstance of Message Passing Interface (MPI),a parallel multi-viscosity-fluid hydrodynamic code MVPPM (Multi-Viscosity-Fluid Piecewise Parabolic Method) is developed and performed to study the hydrodynamic instability and flow mixing. Firstly,the MVPPM code is verified and validated by simulating three instability cases:The first one is a Riemann problem of viscous flow on the shock tube; the second one is the hydrodynamic instability and mixing of gaseous flows under re-shocks; the third one is a half height experiment of interfacial instability,which is conducted on the AWE's shock tube. By comparing the numerical results with experimental data,good agreement is achieved. Then the MVPPM code is applied to simulate the two cases of the interfacial instabilities of jelly models acceler-ated by explosion products of a gaseous explosive mixture (GEM),which are adopted in our experi-ments. The first is implosive dynamic interfacial instability of cylindrical symmetry and mixing. The evolving process of inner and outer interfaces,and the late distribution of mixing mass caused by Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) instability in the center of different radius are given. The second is jelly layer ex-periment which is initialized with one periodic perturbation with different amplitude and wave length. It reveals the complex processes of evolution of interface,and presents the displacement of front face of jelly layer,bubble head and top of spike relative to initial equilibrium position vs. time. | 5 | Large eddy simulation of a shocked gas cylinder instability induced turbulence显示文摘The Navier-Stokes equations for compressible fluid are solved with the operator splitting technique and LES (large eddy simulation) with the Smagorinsky model. A computational code MVFT (multi-viscosity-fluid and turbulence) is developed to study hydrodynamic instability and the induced turbulent mixing for multi compressible fluid. In order to validate the code MVFT,the LANL's shock tube experiment of shocked SF6 gas cylinder is simulated with the initial state of SF6 gas cylinder described by dissipative ITL (interface transition layer). It is shown that the width and height of gas cylinder calculated with MVFT are closer to the experimental results than RAGE,and that the velocities of upstream edge,downstream edge and vortex edge agree with the experimental results,and are appreciably smaller than the RAGE results. | 6 | A digital open-loop Doppler processing prototype for deep-space navigation显示文摘A prototype based on digital radio technology with associated open-loop Doppler signal processing techniques has been developed to measure a spacecraft's line-of-sight velocity. The prototype was tested in China's Chang'E-1 lunar mission relying on S-band telemetry signals transmitted by the sat-ellite,with results showing that the residuals had a RMS value of ~3 mm/s (1σ ) using 1-sec integration,which is consistent with the Chinese conventional USB (Unified S-Band) tracking system. Such preci-sion is mainly limited by the short-term stability of the atomic (e.g. rubidium) clock at the uplink ground station. It can also be improved with proper calibration to remove some effects of the transmission media (such as solar plasma,troposphere and ionosphere),and a longer integration time (e.g. down to 0.56 mm/s at 34 seconds) allowed by the spacecraft dynamics. The tracking accuracy can also be in-creased with differential methods that may effectively remove most of the long-term drifts and some of the short-term uncertainties of the uplink atomic clock,thereby further reducing the residuals to the 1 mm/s level. Our experimental tracking data have been used in orbit determination for Chang'E-1,while other applications (such as the upcoming YH-1 Mars orbiter) based on open-loop Doppler tracking will be initiated in the future.
