| 2 | Association between Vitamin D Insufficiency and the Risk for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnant Chinese Women显示文摘Objective To investigate the association between vitamin D deficiency and risk of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) in pregnant Chinese women.Methods A nested case-control study was conducted.Clinical and biochemical data were analyzed for 200 subjects with GDM and 200 subjects with normal glucose tolerance(NGT).Results The median(interquartile range) serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D(25OHD) levels were 22.39(17.67,29.38) and 25.86(19.09,34.88) nmol/L in the GDM and NGT groups,respectively.Rates of 25OHD deficiency or insufficiency were significantly higher in the GDM group than in the NGT group.Subjects with 25OHD levels <25 nmol/L had a 1.8-fold higher risk of GDM compared with subjects with higher vitamin D levels.In the GDM group,serum 25OHD was independently associated with HbA1c and insulin resistance after adjusting for confounding factors.In the NGT group,serum 25OHD was independently associated with fasting plasma glucose and systolic blood pressure after adjusting for maternal age and other confounding factors.Conclusion 25OHD insufficiency is very common in Chinese women.Low 25OHD status may be associated with insulin resistance and act as a risk factor for GDM. | WANG Ou NIE Min HU Ying Ying ZHANG Kui LI Wei PING Fan LIU Jun Tao CHEN Li Meng XING Xiao Ping | 2012 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,4: | 21 |
| 3 | Phosphorus recovery from biogas fermentation liquid by Ca-Mg loaded biochar显示文摘Shortage in phosphorus(P) resources and P wastewater pollution is considered as a serious problem worldwide. The application of modified biochar for P recovery from wastewater and reuse of recovered P as agricultural fertilizer is a preferred process. This work aims to develop a calcium and magnesium loaded biochar(Ca–Mg/biochar) application for P recovery from biogas fermentation liquid. The physico-chemical characterization, adsorption efficiency, adsorption selectivity, and postsorption availability of Ca-Mg/biochar were investigated. The synthesized Ca–Mg/biochar was rich in organic functional groups and in Ca O and Mg O nanoparticles. With the increase in synthesis temperature, the yield decreased, C content increased, H content decreased, N content remained the same basically, and BET surface area increased. The P adsorption of Ca–Mg/biochar could be accelerated by nano-Ca O and nano-Mg O particles and reached equilibrium after 360 min.The process was endothermic, spontaneous, and showed an increase in the disorder of the solid–liquid interface. Moreover, it could be fitted by the Freundlich model. The maximum P adsorption amounts were 294.22, 315.33, and 326.63 mg/g. The P adsorption selectivity of Ca–Mg/biochar could not be significantly influenced by the typical p H level of biogas fermentation liquid. The nano-Ca O and nano-Mg O particles of Ca–Mg/biochar could reduce the negative interaction effects of coexisting ions. The P releasing amounts of postsorption Ca–Mg/biochar were in the order of Ca–Mg/B600 > Ca–Mg/B450 > Ca–Mg/B300. | 6 | Clinical applications of MARSALA for preimplantation genetic diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy显示文摘Conventional PCR methods combined with linkage analysis based on short tandem repeats(STRs) or Karyomapping with single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) arrays, have been applied to preimplantation genetic diagnosis(PGD) for spinal muscular atrophy(SMA), an autosome recessive disorder. However, it has limitations in SMA diagnosis by Karyomapping, and these methods are unable to distinguish wildtype embryos with carriers effectively. Mutated allele revealed by sequencing with aneuploidy and linkage analyses(MARSALA) is a new method allowing embryo selection by a one-step next-generation sequencing(NGS) procedure, which has been applied in PGD for both autosome dominant and X-linked diseases in our group previously. In this study, we carried out PGD based on MARSALA for two carrier families with SMA affected children. As a result, one of the couples has given birth to a healthy baby free of mutations in SMA-causing gene. It is the first time that MARSALA was applied to PGD for SMA, and we can distinguish the embryos with heterozygous deletion(carriers) from the wild-type(normal) ones accurately through this NGS-based method. In addition, direct mutation detection allows us to identify the affected embryos(homozygous deletion), which can be regarded as probands for linkage analysis, in case that the affected family member is absent. | 9 | MiR-21/RASA1 axis affects malignancy of colon cancer cells via RAS pathways显示文摘AIM:To determine how the oncogene mi R-21 regulates the RAS signaling pathways and affects colon cancer cell behaviors.METHODS:RAS p21 GTPase activating protein 1(RASA1) protein expression in six colon cancer cell lines was assessed by Western blot.Colon cancer RKO cells were chosen for transfection because they are KRAS wild type colon cancer cells whose RASA1 expression is significantly decreased.RKO cells were transfected with vectors overexpressing or downregulating either mi R-21 or RASA1.Furthermore,a luciferase reporter assay was used to determine whether RASA1 is a gene target of mi R-21.Then,changes in m RNA and protein levels of RASA1,RASGTP,and other components of the RAS signaling pathways were assessed in transfected RKO cells by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction,Western blot and immunoprecipitation.Finally,cell proliferation,apoptosis,invasion,and tumorformation ability w ere assessed by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide dye assay,flow cytometry,transwell assay,and animal experiment,respectively.RESULTS:RASA1 protein levels were significantly decreased in RKO cells compared with the other 5 colon cancer cell lines,and RASA1 was confirmed as a target gene of mi R-21.Interestingly,RASA1 m RNA and protein levels in pre-mi R-21-LV(up-regulation of mi R-21) cells were lower than those in anti-mi R-21-LV(down-regulation of mi R-21) cells(P < 0.05).In addition,pre-mi R-21-LV or si RASA1(down-regulation of RASA1) cells showed higher cell proliferation,reduced apoptosis,increased expression of RAS-GTP,p-AKT,Raf-1,KRAS,and p-ERK1/2,and higher invasion and tumor formation ability,compared with control,antimi R-21-LV or pc DNA3.1-RASA1(up-regulation of RASA1) cells(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:RASA1 is a target gene of mi R-21,which promotes malignant behaviors of RKO cells through regulation of RASA1 expression. | Bo Gong Wan-Wei Liu Wen-Jing Nie Dong-Feng Li Zi-Jun Xie Chao Liu Yan-Hui Liu Ping Mei Zi-Jun Li | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,5: | 6 |
| 10 | Integrated approach for optimal island partition and power dispatch显示文摘Operating in island mode when failure occurs in sure to maintain an uninterrupted power supply to significant loads. A two-stage approach that integrates optimal island partition and power dispatch is proposed in this paper, considering photovoltaics(PVs), batteries(BEs) and electric vehicles(EVs) as the power sources. In the first stage, energy indices are defined to describe the energy demand and the maximum energy that these distributed energy resources(DERs) can provide, and islands are partitioned based on an energy constraint. Considering the variability the loads and PVs, the energy constraint is a necessary but not sufficient condition for island operation,so in the second stage, a power dispatch model is proposed the active distribution network(ADN) is an effective mea-as a test for the island partition result. Sequential power flow is also simulated to guarantee a feasible and optimized island status. The situations when the tests are not passed are analyzed and classified, and corresponding modifications for the first stage model are provided. Multiple levels of constraints based on the energy index are established for the island partition model. | 11 | Epidemiology of urticaria in China:a population-based study显示文摘Background:Urticaria is a common skin disease characterized by episodes of wheals,and it has a negative effect on patients’quality of life.Large-scale population-based epidemiological studies of urticaria are scarce in China.The aim of this survey was to determine the prevalence,clinical forms,and risk factors of urticaria in the Chinese population.Methods:This survey was conducted in 35 cities from 31 provinces,autonomous regions,and municipalities of China.Two to three communities in each city were selected in this investigation.Participants completed questionnaires and received dermatological examinations.We analyzed the prevalence,clinical forms,and risk factors of urticaria.Results:In total,44,875 questionnaires were distributed and 41,041 valid questionnaires were collected(17,563 male and 23,478 female participants).The lifetime prevalence of urticaria was 7.30%,with 8.26%in female and 6.34%in male individuals(P<0.05).The point prevalence of urticaria was 0.75%,with 0.79%in female and 0.71%in male individuals(P<0.05).Concomitant angioedema was found in 6.16%of patients.Adults had a higher prevalence of urticaria than adolescents and children.Living in urban areas,exposure to pollutants,an anxious or depressed psychological status,a personal and family history of allergy,thyroid diseases,and Helicobacter pylori infection were associated with a higher prevalence of urticaria.Smoking was correlated with a reduced risk of urticaria.Conclusion:This study demonstrated that the lifetime prevalence of urticaria was 7.30%and the point prevalence was 0.75%in the Chinese population;women had a higher prevalence of urticaria than men.Various factors were correlated with urticaria. | Jiaqing Li Dandan Mao Shuoshuo Liu Ping Liu Jing Tian Chenhong Xue Xiaojing Liu Ruiqun Qi Bingxue Bai Jianjun Nie Siqi Ye Yu Wang Yuye Li Qing Sun Juan Tao Shuping Guo Hong Fang Jianqin Wang Qiri Mu Quanzhong Liu Yan Ding Jianzhong Zhang | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,11: | 6 |
| 12 | Research Data Management Implementation at Peking University Library:Foster and Promote Open Science and Open Data显示文摘Research Data Management(RDM)has become increasingly important for more and more academic institutions.Using the Peking University Open Research Data Repository(PKU-ORDR)project as an example,this paper will review a library-based university-wide open research data repository project and related RDM services implementation process including project kickoff,needs assessment,partnerships establishment,software investigation and selection,software customization,as well as data curation services and training.Through the review,some issues revealed during the stages of the implementation process are also discussed and addressed in the paper such as awareness of research data,demands from data providers and users,data policies and requirements from home institution,requirements from funding agencies and publishers,the collaboration between administrative units and libraries,and concerns from data providers and users.The significance of the study is that the paper shows an example of creating an Open Data repository and RDM services for other Chinese academic libraries planning to implement their RDM services for their home institutions.The authors of the paper have also observed since the PKU-ORDR and RDM services implemented in 2015,the Peking University Library(PKUL)has helped numerous researchers to support the entire research life cycle and enhanced Open Science(OS)practices on campus,as well as impacted the national OS movement in China through various national events and activities hosted by the PKUL. | Hua Nie Pengcheng Luo Ping Fu | 2021 | Data Intelligence2021,3,1: | 5 |
| 13 | Epidermal growth factor receptor mutation analysis in cytological specimens and responsiveness to gefitinib in advanced non-small cell lung cancer patients显示文摘Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) mutation is the key predictor of EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs) efficacy in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC). We conducted this study to verify the feasibility of EGFR mutation analysis in cytological specimens and investigate the responsiveness to gefitinib treatment in patients carrying EGFR mutations.Methods: A total of 210 cytological specimens were collected for EGFR mutation detection by both direct sequencing and amplification refractory mutation system(ARMS). We analyzed EGFR mutation status by both methods and evaluated the responsiveness to gefitinib treatment in patients harboring EGFR mutations by overall response rate(ORR), disease control rate(DCR) and progression free survival(PFS).Results: Of all patients, EGFR mutation rate was 28.6%(60/210) by direct sequencing and 45.2%(95/210) by ARMS(P<0.001) respectively. Among the EGFR wild type patients tested by direct sequencing, 26.7% of them were positive by ARMS. For the 72 EGFR mutation positive patients treated with gefitinib, the ORR, DCR and median PFS were 69.4%, 90.2% and 9.3 months respectively. The patients whose EGFR mutation status was negative by direct sequencing but positive by ARMS had lower ORR(48.0% vs. 80.9%, P=0.004) and shorter median PFS(7.4 vs. 10.5 months, P=0.009) as compared with that of EGFR mutation positive patients by both detection methods. Conclusions: Our study verified the feasibility of EGFR analysis in cytological specimens in advanced NSCLC. ARMS is more sensitive than direct sequencing in EGFR mutation detection. EGFR Mutation status tested on cytological samples is applicable for predicting the response to gefitinib. | 15 | Apolipoprotein E Gene Polymorphisms Are Risk Factors for Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage:A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis显示文摘Intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH)is a serious clinical disease with high morbidity,whose pathogenesis might be related to apolipoprotein E(APOE)gene polymorphisms.To comprehensively evaluate the risk factors for ICH occurrence,we performed a meta-analysis.We searched online databases to identify eligible studies based on the relationship between APOE genetic polymorphisms and ICH occurrence risk.Specific and pooled odds ratios(ORs)were calculated and by assessing small study bias,we drew the relationship between APOE polymorphisms and ICH risk.We included 15 eligible studies in our study containing a total of 1642 ICH samples and 5545 normal controls.The comparison of e4 andε3 APOE genotypes revealed that specific and pooled ORs showed a significantly increased odds ratio in ICH patients with theε4 genotype,indicating thatε4 gene is a risk factor for ICH occurrence,and the heterogeneity is acceptable.Similarly,it was found that theε2 genotype also contributed to the incidence rate of ICH.However,after the subgroup analysis by ethnicity,this APOE genetic polymorphism acted as a harmful factor only in white populations,but did not show an effect in Asian populations.It was suggested that both 82 andε4 APOE alleles were risk factors for ICH in general.They were risk factors in white populations only,neither had a detectable effect in Asian populations after subgroup analysing by ethnicity. | Hao NIE Yang HU Na LIU Ping ZHANG Gai-gai LI Yan-yan LI Chao PAN Hai-han YU Qian WU Guo-feng WU Zhou-ping TANG | 2019 | Current Medical Science2019,39,1: | 4 |

| 17 | Abnormal Effective Connectivity of the Anterior Forebrain Regions in Disorders of Consciousness显示文摘A number of studies have indicated that disorders of consciousness result from multifocal injuries as well as from the impaired functional and anatomical connectivity between various anterior forebrain regions.However, the specific causal mechanism linking these regions remains unclear. In this study, we used spectral dynamic causal modeling to assess how the effective connections(ECs) between various regions differ between individuals. Next, we used connectome-based predictive modeling to evaluate the performance of the ECs in predicting the clinical scores of DOC patients. We found increased ECs from the striatum to the globus pallidus as well as from the globus pallidus to the posterior cingulate cortex, and decreased ECs from the globus pallidus to the thalamus and from the medial prefrontal cortex to the striatum in DOC patients as compared to healthy controls.Prediction of the patients' outcome was effective using the negative ECs as features. In summary, the present study highlights a key role of the thalamo-basal ganglia-cortical loop in DOCs and supports the anterior forebrain mesocircuit hypothesis. | 20 | Effect of Interplanting with Zero Tillage and Straw Manure on Rice Growth and Rice Quality显示文摘The interplanting with zero-tillage of rice, i.e. direct sowing rice 10-20 days before wheat harvesting, and remaining about 30-cm high stubble after cutting wheat or rice with no tillage, is a new cultivation technology in wheat-rice rotation system. To study the effects of interplanting with zero tillage and straw manure on rice growth and quality, an experiment was conducted in a wheat-rotation rotation system. Four treatments, i.e. ZIS (Zero-tillage, straw manure and rice interplanting), ZI (Zero-tillage, no straw manure and rice interplanting), PTS (Plowing tillage, straw manure and rice transplanting), and PT (Plowing tillage, no straw manure and rice transplanting), were used. ZIS reduced plant height, leaf area per plant and the biomass of rice plants, but the biomass accumulation of rice at the late stage was quicker than that under conventional transplanting cultivation. In the first year (2002), there was no significant difference in rice yield among the four treatments. However, rice yield decreased in interplanting with zero-tillage in the second year (2003). Compared with the transplanting treatments, the number of filled grains per panicle decreased but 1000-grain weight increased in interplanting with zero-tillage, which were the main factors resulting in higher yield. Interplanting with zero-tillage improved the milling and appearance qualities of rice. The rates of milled and head rice increased while chalky rice rate and chalkiness decreased in interplanting with zero-tillage. Zero-tillage and interplanting also affected rice nutritional and cooking qualities. In 2002, ZIS showed raised protein content, decreased amylose content, softer gel consistency, resulting in improved rice quality. In 2003, zero-tillage and interplanting decreased protein content and showed similar amylose content as compared with transplanting treatments. Moreover, protein content in PTS was obviously increased in comparison with the other three treatments. The rice in interplanting with zero-tillage treatments had higher peak viscosity and breakdown, lower setback, showing better rice taste quality.
