1Evaluation of anti-resistant activity of Auklandia(Saussurea lappa) root against some human pathogens显示文摘Objective:The antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract of the Auklandia(Saussurea lappa)root plant was investigated to verify its medicinal use in the treatment of microbial infections. Methods:The antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract was tested against clinical isolates ofsome multidrug-resistant bacteria using the agar well diffusion method.Commercial antibioticswere used as positive reference standards to determine the sensitivity of the clinical isolates. Results:The extracts showed significant inhibitory activity against clinical isolates of methicillinresistantStaphylococcus aureus,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli,Klebsiella pneumonia,Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactemase,Acinetobacter baumannii. The minimum inhibitory concentration values obtained using the agar dilution test ranged from 2.0μg/μL-12.0μg/μL.In the contrary the water extract showed no activity at all against the tested isolates.Furthermore, theresults obtained by examining anti-resistant activity of the plant ethanolic extract showed thatat higher concentration of the plant extract(12μg)all tested bacteria isolates were inhibited with variable inhibition zones similar to those obtained when we applied lower extract concentrationusing the well diffusion assay. Conclusion:The results demonstrated that the crude ethanolicextract of the Auklandia(Saussurea lappa)root plant has a wide spectrum of activity suggestingthat it may be useful in the treatment of infections caused by the above clinical isolates(humanpathogens).Sidgi Syed Anwer Hasson Mohammed Saeed Al-Balushi KhazinaAlharthy JumaZaidAl-Busaidi MunaSulimanAldaihani Mohammed Shafeeq Othman Elias Antony Said Omar Habal Talal Abdullah Sallam Ali Abdullah Aljabri Mohamed AhmedIdris 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,7:2

13In vitro and comparative study on the extracellular enzyme activity of molds isolated from keratomycosis and soil显示文摘AIM:To isolate and identify the molds involved in mycotic keratitis; to isolate corresponding species from soil samples; to compare the extracellular enzyme activity indices of the molds isolated from keratitis cases and the corresponding soil isolates.METHODS:The specimens were collected from the target patients attending the microbiology laboratory of tertiary eye hospital in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu state,India. The isolates were subjected for identification based on the growth on solid media, direct microscopy and lacto phenol cotton blue wet mount preparation.Extracellular enzymes such as lipase, deoxyribonuclease(DNase), α-amylase, protease, cellulase and pectinase produced by the fungal isolates were screened on solid media supplemented with the corresponding substrates.Based on growth and zone diameter, the enzyme activity indices were calculated and were compared with that of the soil fungal isolates.RESULTS:A total of 108 clinical samples were collected from a tertiary eye care hospital and out of which 60 fungal isolates were obtained. Among these,Fusarium spp.(n =30), non sporulating molds(n =9),Aspergillus flavus(n =6), Bipolaris spp.(n =6),Exserohilum spp.(n =4), Curvularia spp.(n =3),Alternaria spp.(n =1) and Exophiala spp.(n =1) were identified and designated as FS1-30, NSM1-9, AF1-6,BS1-6, ES1-4, CS1-3, AS1 and EX1, respectively. For comparative analysis, soil samples were also collected from which, one isolate of each Fusarium spp.,Aspergillus flavus, Bipolaris spp., Exserohilum spp., and Curvularia spp., respectively were selected. Highest lipase activity was seen in corneal isolate NSM2(EAI= 2.14).The DNase activity was higher in NSM9(EAI =1.88). In case of protease, Fusarium spp.(FS9) had prominent enzyme activity index of 1.38; α-amylase activity was also superior in corneal isolate FS13 with EAI of 1.63 when compared to other isolates. The enzyme activity index for cellulase was also noted to be higher in corneal isolates i.e. NSM7 with EAI of 1.98 when compared to other corneal and soil isolates. The pectinase activity index was also prominent for corneal isolate NSM5 versus the soil isolates, SAF1, SFS1, SES1, SBS1 and SCS 1 as 1.76 versus 1.47, 1.38, 1.16, 1.11 and 1.14,respectively.CONCLUSION:Themostcommon isolate was Fusarium spp. followed by Aspergillus, Curvularia, Exserohilum,Bipolaris, Exophiala and Alternaria species. Enzyme activity indices(EAI) of the enzymes analysed varied with the clinical and soil isolates with respect to protease and cellulase(P =0.01). Of all the strains compared it was noted that mean EAI was greater in many clinical fusarial isolates followed by non sporulating molds.Arumugam Mythili Yendranbam Randhir Babu Singh Ravindran Priya Anamangadan Shafeeq Hassan Palanisamy Manikandan Kanesan Panneerselvam Venkatapathy Narendran Coimbatore Subramanian Shobana 2014International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2014,7,5:1

16Economic Impacts of Clinical and Sub Clinical Mastitis on Dairy Farms显示文摘Studies have reported on the economic impacts of clinical and subclinical mastitis on dairy farms.Bovine mastitis is a disorder that affects dairy farms and has a major economic impact. Most of the economic losses are the result of mastitis.Mastitis is an invasive infection that is among the most numerous and highly complicated infections in the dairy sector.Mastitis is one of the most expensive diseases in terms of production losses among animal diseases.Mastitis reduces milk production, changes milk composition, and shortens the productive life of infected cows.Farmers must concentrate on avoiding mastitis infection whilst putting in place and following a mastitis control programed.Bovine mastitis, the most significant disease of dairy herds, has huge effects on farm economics.Mastitis losses are due to reduced milk production, the cost of treatments, and culling.Major factors related to low milk yield could be low genetic potential as well as poor nutritional and managerial approaches. Most of the losses are related to somatic cell count(SCC),which is characterised by an increase in the percentage of milk.Culling costs are the costs of rearing or buying a replacement animal, mostly heifers.Overhead impacts include the replacement animals'lower milk supply effectiveness. The expense of replacing animals prematurely due to mastitis is one of the most significant areas of economic loss.Muhammad Shafeeq Afshan Muneer Amjad Islam Aqib Nimra Kirn 2021Veterinary Science Research2021,3,2:0
17Development of 19-plex Y STR system and polymorphism studies in Pakistani population显示文摘For the development of 19-plex Y STR system and polymorphism studies in local ethnic populations sixteen markers of non-recombining regions (NRY) of Y chromosome, which show high power of discrimination among individuals, were selected in this study. Blood samples (600) were collected from the males of three most common castes of Pakistani population (Arain, Awan and Rajput) with different parent lineages. Three markers (DYS385a/b, DYS389I/II and YCAIIa/b) among 16 Y STRs are double-targeted regions of the Y chromosome and thus provide two polymorphic peaks for each respective primer set. These 16 Y-STRs were developed into Megaplex system for simultaneous amplification of all markers within the population. The overall power of discrimination observed in focused populations was 60.5%, 66.5% and 55% in Rajput, Awan and Arain casts respectively. This discrimination power will be helpful in human identification for forensic casework studies including sexual assaults and paternity testing.Faraz Malik Mahmood A. Kayani M.
