| 1 | Applications of Three DNA Barcodes in Assorting Intertidal Red Macroalgal Flora in Qingdao, China显示文摘This study is part of the endeavor to construct a comprehensive DNA barcoding database for common seaweeds in China. Identifications of red seaweeds, which have simple morphology and anatomy, are sometimes difficult solely depending on morphological characteristics. In recent years, DNA barcode technique has become a more and more effective tool to help solve some of the taxonomic difficulties. Some DNA markers such as COI (cytochrome oxidase subunitⅠ) are proposed as standardized DNA barcodes for all seaweed species. In this study, COI, UPA (universal plastid amplicon, domain V of 23S rRNA), and ITS (nuclear internal transcribed spacer) were employed to analyze common species of intertidal red seaweeds in Qingdao (119.3 -121 E, 35.35 -37.09 N). The applicability of using one or a few combined barcodes to identify red seaweed species was tested. The results indicated that COI is a sensitive marker at species level. However, not all the tested species gave PCR amplification products due to lack of the universal primers. The second barcode UPA had effective universal primers but needed to be tested for the effectiveness of resolving closely related species. More than one ITS sequence types were found in some species in this investigation, which might lead to confusion in further analysis. | 2 | Circadian rhythms in the growth and reproduction of the brown alga Undaria pinnatifida and gametogenesis under different photoperiods显示文摘Circadian growth rhythm of the juvenile sporophyte of the brown alga Undaria pinnatifida was measured with the computer-aided image analysis system in constant florescent white light under constant temperature (10 ℃). The growth rhythm persisted for 4 d in constant light with a free-running period of 25.6 h. Egg release from filamentous gametophytes pre-cultured in the light-dark regime was evaluated for six consecutive days at fixed time intervals in constant white light and 12 h light per day. Egg release rhythm persisted for 3 d in both regimes, indicating the endogenous nature. Temporal scale of egg release and gametogenesis in 18, 16, 12 and 8 h light per day were evaluated respectively using vegetatively propagated filamentous gametophytes. Egg release occurred 2 h after the onset of dark phase and peaked at midnight. Evaluation of the rates of oogonium formation, egg release or fertilization revealed no significant differences in four light-dark regimes, indicating the great plasticity of sexual reproduction. No photoperiodic effect in gametogenesis in terms of oogonium formation and egg release was found, but fertilization in short days was significantly higher than in long days. | 3 | Temperature and light tolerance of representative brown,green and red algae in tumble culture revealed by chlorophyll fluorescence measurements显示文摘Laminaria japonica,Undaria pinnatifida,Ulva lactuca,Grateloupia turuturu and Palmaria palmata are suitable species that fit the requirements of a seaweed-animal integrated aquaculture system in terms of their viable biomass,rapid growth and promising nutrient uptake rates.In this investigation,the responses of the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield of the five algal species in tumble culture were assessed at a temperature range of 10~30℃.The results revealed that Ulva lactuca was the most resistant species to high temperature,withstanding 30℃ for 4 h without apparent decline in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield.While the arctic alga Palmaria palmata was the most vulnerable one,showing significant decline in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield at 25℃ for 2 h.The cold-water species Laminaria japonica,however,demonstrated strong ability to cope with higher temperature(24~26℃)for shorter time(within 24 h)without significant decline in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield.Grateloupia turuturu showed a general decrease in the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield with the rising temperature from 23 to 30℃,similar to the temperate kelp Undaria pinnatifida.Changes of chlorophyll fluorescence yields of these algae were characterized differently indicating the existence of species-unique strategy to cope with high light.Measurements of the optimal chlorophyll fluorescence yield after short exposure to direct solar irradiance revealed how long these exposures could be without significant photoinhibition or with promising recovery in photosynthetic activities.Seasonal pattern of alternation of algal species in tank culture in the Northern Hemisphere at the latitude of 36°N was proposed according to these basic measurements. | PANG Shaojun SHAN Tifeng | 2008 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2008,27,4: | 4 |
| 4 | Advances of nanoparticles as drug delivery systems for disease diagnosis and treatment显示文摘Decades have passed since the first nanoparticles-base medicine was approved for human cancer treatment, and the research and development of nanoparticles for drug delivery are always undergoing.Nowadays, the significant advances complicate nanoparticles’ branches, including liposomes, solid lipid nanoparticles, inorganic nanoparticles, micelles, nanovaccines and nano-antibodies, etc. These nanoparticles show numerous capabilities in treatment and diagnosis of stubborn diseases like cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, emerging as novel drug carriers or therapeutic agents in future. In this review, the complicated branches of nanoparticles are classified and summarized, with their property and functions concluded. Besides, there are also some delivery strategies that make nanoparticles smarter and more efficient in drug delivery, and frontiers in these strategies are also summarized in this review. | 5 | Nonculturability of the pathogenic Vibrio parahaemolyticus in live culture of Grateloupia turuturu is associated with bacterial attachment to the algal thalli显示文摘The invasive red alga Grateloupia turuturu Yamada could turn Vibrio parahaemolyticus into nonculturable state in live algal culture.In order to elucidate the mechanism of such an effect,a series of culture experiments were performed in this investigation based on three hypothesized causes,namely bacterial attachment,production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the discharge of water soluble secondary metabolic compounds.The results reveal that attachment to the thallus surface of G.turuturu was the major reason for the decrease of V.parahaemolyticus in seawater.Further investigations show that V.parahaemolyticus attachment to the surface of algal thallus in live cultures of seaweeds was a common phenomenon.However,the disappearance of the culturability of V.parahaemolyticus occurred only on the thallus of G.turuturu over 72 h among all six algal species tested.Electron microscopic scanning shows that most of V.parahaemolyticus attached to G.turuturu changed from the initial normal bacilli to coccoid-shape after 72 h.The enclosure experiments by enclosing the algal thallus in tubes demonstrate that the nonculturability of V.parahaemolyticus in the water of live culture of G.turuturu occurred after the physical contact of the V.parahaemolyticus to the alga.The capacity of G.turuturu in affecting the culturability of V.parahaemolyticus was not influenced after inhibition of photosynthesis by treatment of 3(3,4dichlorophenyl)-1 ,1dimethyl urea (DCMU) at non-lethal levels.Production of reactive oxygen species after addition of live culture of bacteria was excluded by on-line analyzing the oxidation of dichlorohydrofluorescein (DCFH) to dichlorofluorescein (DCF) in the presence of peroxidase on a VersaFluor fluorometer. | LIU Feng PANG Shaojun | 2010 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2010,29,6: | 1 |

| 12 | Zoospores of Undaria pinnatifida:their efficiency to attach under different water velocities and conjugation behavior during attachment显示文摘In the invading course of Undaria pinnatifida, zoospore attachment in a dynamically changed subtidal water environment is crucial for the establishment of a potential population in alien waters. Among many abiotic factors that may interfere with the attachment process, water velocity is the most important one. In this investigation, the effect of water velocity on zoospore attachment of U. pinnatifida was investigated in an artificially designed system. It was found that freshly released zoospores that were transported by water flowing at 0~16 cm/s showed no difficulty in attaching the smooth surface. Zoospore attachment decreased at elevated water flowing rates. At 70 cm/s no spore attachment occurred. Spores that have settled on glass slide for up to 1 h could not be stripped away by flowing water at a rate of 129 cm/s, the same was true of the 20 d old filamentous gametophytes. | 16 | Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy for Pseudomyxoma Peritonei of Appendiceal Origin-801 Cases from a Single Institution in China显示文摘Aim:As more and more centers has published their treatment results of pseudomyxoma peritonei(PMP)with cytoreductive surgery(CRS)and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC),the data from China is missing.Myxoma Department of Aerospace Hospital is the biggest center treating PMP in China.The purpose of this study is to report the early and long-term outcomes for PMP from this single center.Methods:801 appendix-derived PMP out of 1008 consecutive patients treated in Myxoma Department of Aerospace Hospital between 2008 and 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.Results:Complete cytoreductive surgery(CCRS)was achieved in 240(30%)patients with median PCI of 14(1~39),and the rest had maximal tumor debulking(MTD),HIPEC was implemented in 96.3%of CCRS and 78.6%of MTD.The major morbidity(grade III/IV)was 11.4%and the 30-day operative mortality is 0.7%.The 5-and 10-year OS of CCRS was 76.9%and 64.1%,which is significantly higher than MTD(5-,10-year OS as 36.1%,27.1%;p<0.001).On the univariate analysis,all prognostic factors(gender,PSS,interval time,prior chemotherapy,prior HIPEC,Peritoneal Cancer Index(PCI),completeness of cytoreduction(CC),HIPEC,pathology,present of serous ascites)were found to be associated with overall survival except for age.On multivariate analysis,only PCI>20,MTD,high pathologic grade and without HIPEC were independent factors predicting poorer prognosis.Conclusions:CCRS+HIPEC can benefit PMP well with controllable risks.MTD+HIPEC may benefit PMP as well when CCRS cannot be achieved after fully asscessment by an experienced peritoneal maglignacy center,but the surgery should be performed as limited as possible. | Ao Xia Xichao Zhai Lubiao An Bing Wang Guanjun Shi Ying Cai Yiyan Lu Shaojun Pang Feng Chen Hongbin Xu Ruiqing Ma | 2020 | Journal of Oncology Research2020,2,2: | 0 |

A FPGA based AXI bus compatible vector accelerator architecture is proposed which utilises fully pipelined and heterogeneous ALU for performance, and microcoding is employed for reusability. | 18 | Potential of Ulva prolifera in phytoremediation of seawater polluted by cesium and cobalt: an experimental study on the biosorption and kinetics显示文摘Radionuclides accidentally released from nuclear power plants,such as ^(137)Cs and ^(60)Co,can lead to severe contamination of marine ecosystems.Living macroalgae are effi cient in absorbing metal elements from seawater.A 10-day simulation was conducted to assess the potential of scavenging cesium(Cs)and cobalt(Co)with live U lva prolifera that was cultured in seawater medium containing Cs and Co in diff erent concentrations(0(the control),10,20,50,and 100 mg/L).In the experiment,5 kg(fresh weight)of U.prolifera was cultured in natural seawater in 90-L tanks.Results showed that after the experiment,the average bioconcentration factors(BCFs)of the control group were 247.2 and 1126.4 for Cs and Co,respectively.The absolute absorption quantity of U.prolifera increased and the BCFs decreased with the increase in Cs and Co concentrations.The biosorption of the two metals on the fi rst day well fi t the pseudo-second-order equation(R^(2)>0.95),indicating that adsorption is the rate-limiting step in the total biosorption process.Concentrations of both metal ions declined signifi cantly in the fi rst hour and decreased by 25.2%and 15.5%in 48 h,respectively.Therefore,live U.prolifera is effi cient at scavenging Cs and Co in seawater,providing potential applications for the phytoremediation of radionuclides contaminated seawaters. | Xuemei WANG Tifeng SHAN Shaojun PANG | 2022 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,4: | 0 |
| 19 | Biological identification and determination of optimum growth conditions for four species of Navicula显示文摘Four species in the genus Navicula were isolated using the serial dilution method. Based on scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and sequence comparisons of two segments of genes(small ribosomal subunit and large subunit of Rubisco), the species were identified as Navicula perminuta, N. pseudacceptata, N. vara, and N. rhynchocephala. Based on phylogenetic analysis and culture trials, there was a close relationship between N. perminuta and N. vara. Growth of these species was evaluated using measurements of optical density at 680 nm(OD680) under various environmental factors. Results showed that the optimum culture conditions were 25℃, 50–100 μmol photons m-2 s-1, pH 8.0, and salinities from 25 to 30. However, the favorable salinity for N. perminuta was surprisingly high at 35. Nutrient requirement analysis demonstrated that growth of Navicula depended on the availability of SiO32-. Their relative growth rates(RGR) peaked at the highest tested level(0.25 mmol/L). The optimal concentrations of NO3- and PO43- were 3.6 mmol/L and 0.18 mmol/L, respectively.
