2Selecting and applying quantification models for ecosystem services to forest ecosystems in South Korea显示文摘There is growing interest in using ecosystem services to aid development of management strategies that target sustainability and enhance ecosystem support to humans. Challenges remain in the search for methods and indicators that can quantify ecosystem services using metrics that are meaningful in light of their high priorities.We developed a framework to link ecosystems to human wellbeing based on a stepwise approach. We evaluated prospective models in terms of their capacity to quantify national ecosystem services of forests. The most applicable models were subsequently used to quantify ecosystem services. The Korea Forest Research Institute model satisfied all criteria in its first practical use. A total of 12 key ecosystem services were identified. For our case study, we quantified four ecosystem functions, viz. water storage capacity in forest soil for water storage service, reduced suspended sediment for water purification service, reduced soil erosion for landslide prevention service, and reduced sediment yield for sediment regulation service. Water storage capacity in forest soil was estimated at 2142 t/ha,and reduced suspended sediment was estimated at 608 kg/ha. Reduced soil erosion was estimated at 77 m^3/ha, and reduced sediment yield was estimated at 285 m^3/ha. These results were similar to those reported by previous studies.Mapped results revealed hotspots of ecosystem services around protected areas that were particularly rich in biodiversity. In addition, the proposed framework illustrated that quantification of ecosystem services could be supported by the spatial flow of ecosystem services. 11Oxygen permeability of soft contact lenses in different pH, osmolality and buffering solution显示文摘AIM: To determine the effect of p H, osmolality, and buffering system on the oxygen permeability(Dk) of soft contact lenses.·METHODS: Two hydrogel lenses(nelfilcon A and etafilcon A) and 2 silicone hydrogel lenses(lotrafilcon A and balafilcon A) were used in the study. These lenses were incubated in phosphate-buffered saline(PBS) and borate-buffered saline(BBS) solutions adjusted by 0.8p H increments to a p H in the range of 5.8-9.0 or in hypotonic(280 m Osmol/kg), isotonic(310 m Osmol/kg)and hypertonic(380 m Osmol/kg) PBS solutions.Polarographic method was used for measuring the Dk and lenses were stacked as 4 layers to correct the boundary effect.·RESULTS: Dk values of all contact lenses measured in BBS solutions were more stable than those in PBS solutions. Especially the etafilcon A lens showed a relative big change compared with other types of contact lenses at the same conditions. When the osmolality of PBS solution increased from hypotonic to hypertonic, Dk of all contact lenses decreased. Variations in Dk existed depending on lens materials, etafilcon A lens was the most affected and nelfilcon A was the least affected by osmolality.·CONCLUSION: From the result obtained, it is revealed that Dk of contact lenses is changed by the p H,osmolality, and buffering condition of tear.
