| 2 | Association of chronic viral hepatitis B with insulin resistance显示文摘AIM:To investigate the relationship between chronic viral hepatitis B(CVHB) and insulin resistance(IR) in Korean adults.METHODS:A total of 7880 adults(3851 men,4029 women) who underwent a comprehensive medical examination were enrolled in this study.Subjects diagnosed with either diabetes mellitus,or any other disorder that could influence their insulin sensitivity,were rejected.Anthropometry,metabolic risk factors,hepatitis B surface antigen,hepatitis B surface antibody,hepatitis B core antibody,fasting plasma glucose and insulin were measured for all subjects.Homeostasis model assessment(HOMA),quantitative insulin check index(QUICKI),and Mf fm index were used for determining insulin sensitivity.Each participant was categorized into a negative,recovery,or CVHB group.To compare variables between groups,a t-test and/or one-way analysis of variance were used.Partial correlation coefficients were computed to present the association between insulin resistance and other variables.Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess the independent association between CVHB and IR.RESULTS:The mean age of men and women were 48.9 and 48.6 years,respectively.Subjects in the CVHB group had significantly higher waist circumference [(86.0 ± 7.7 cm vs 87.3 ± 7.8 cm,P = 0.004 in men),(78.3 ± 8.6 cm vs 80.5 ± 8.5 cm,P < 0.001 in women)],cystatin C [(0.96 ± 0.15 mg/dL vs 1.02 ± 0.22 mg/dL,P < 0.001 in men),(0.84 ± 0.15 mg/dL vs 0.90 ± 0.16 mg/dL,P < 0.001 in women)],fasting insulin [(5.47 ± 3.38 U/mL vs 6.12 ± 4.62 U/mL,P < 0.001 in men),(4.57 ± 2.82 U/mL vs 5.06 ± 3.10 U/mL,P < 0.001 in women)] and HOMA index [(1.24 ± 0.86 vs 1.43 ± 1.24,P < 0.001 in men),(1.02 ± 0.76 vs 1.13 ± 0.87,P = 0.033 in women)] compared to control group.The HOMA index revealed a positive correlation with body mass index(BMI)(r = 0.378,P < 0.001),waist circumference(r =0.356,P < 0.001),percent body fat(r = 0.296,P < 0.001),systolic blood pressure(r = 0.202,P < 0.001),total cholesterol(r = 0.134,P < 0.001),triglycerides(r = 0.292,P < 0.001),cystatin C(r = 0.069,P < 0.001) and uric acid(r = 0.142,P < 0.001).The QUICKI index revealed a negative correlation with BMI(r =-0.254,P < 0.001),waist circumference(r = 0-0.243,P < 0.001),percent body fat(r =-0.217,P < 0.001),systolic blood pressure(r =-0.132,P < 0.001),total cholesterol(r =-0.106,P < 0.001),triglycerides(r =-0.205,P < 0.001),cystatin C(r =-0.044,P < 0.001) and uric acid(r =-0.096,P < 0.001).For subjects identified with IR,the odds ratio of an accompanying diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B was 1.534(95% CI:1.158-2.031,HOMA index criteria) or 1.566(95% CI:1.124-2.182,QUICKI criteria) after adjustment for age,gender,BMI,and amount of alcohol consumption.CONCLUSION:Our study demonstrates that CVHB is associated with IR.CVHB may need to be monitored for occurrence of IR and diabetes mellitus. | Jeong Gyu Lee Sangyeoup Lee Yun Jin Kim Byung Mann Cho Joo Sung Park Hyung Hoi Kim JaeHun Cheong Dong Wook Jeong Yu Hyun Lee Young Hye Cho Mi Jin Bae Eun Jung Choi | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,42: | 10 |
| 3 | Three-Tesla magnetic resonance elastography for hepatic fibrosis:Comparison with diffusion-weighted imaging and gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the feasibility of 3-Tesla magnetic resonance elastography(MRE)for hepatic fibrosis and to compare that with diffusion-weighted imaging(DWI)and gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance(MR)imaging.METHODS:Forty-two patients were included in the study.On MRE,mean stiffness values were measured on the elastograms in kilopascals.The apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)of the liver was measured using DWI.On gadoxetic acid enhanced MR,the contrast enhancement index(CEI)was calculated as signal intensity(SI)post/SIpre,where SIpost is liver-to-muscle SI ratio on hepatobiliary phase images and SIpre is that on nonenhanced images.Correlation between aspartate aminotransferase to the platelet ratio index(APRI)and three MR parameters was assessed.Each MR parameter was compared between a hepatic fibrosis(HF)group and non-hepatic fibrosis(n HF)group.RESULTS:Liver stiffness showed strong positive correlation with APRI[Spearman correlation coeffiecient(r)=0.773,P<0.0001],while ADC and CEI showed weak or prominent negative correlation(r=-0.28 and-0.321,respectively).In the HF group,only liver stiffness showed strong correlation with APRI(r=0.731,P<0.0001).Liver stiffness,ADC,and APRI were significantly different between the HF group and n HF group.CONCLUSION:MRE at 3-Tesla could be a feasible method for the assessment of hepatic fibrosis. | Hee Sun Park Young Jun Kim Mi Hye Yu Won Hyeok Choe Sung Il Jung Hae Jeong Jeon | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,46: | 9 |
| 4 | Benign gallbladder diseases:Imaging techniques and tips for differentiating with malignant gallbladder diseases显示文摘Benign gallbladder diseases usually present with intraluminal lesions and localized or diffuse wall thickening.Intraluminal lesions of the gallbladder include gallstones,cholesterol polyps,adenomas,or sludge and polypoid type of gallbladder cancer must subsequently be excluded.Polyp size,stalk width,and enhancement intensity on contrast-enhanced ultrasound and degree of diffusion restriction may help differentiate cholesterol polyps and adenomas from gallbladder cancer.Localized gallbladder wall thickening is largely due to segmental or focal gallbladder adenomyomatosis,although infiltrative cancer may present similarly.Identification of Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses is pivotal in diagnosing adenomyomatosis.The layered pattern,degree of enhancement,and integrity of the wall are imaging clues that help discriminate innocuous thickening from gallbladder cancer.High-resolution ultrasound is especially useful for analyzing the layering of gallbladder wall.A diffusely thickened wall is frequently seen in inflammatory processes of the gallbladder.Nevertheless,it is important to check for coexistent cancer in instances of acute cholecystitis.Ultrasound used alone is limited in evaluating complicated cholecystitis and often requires complementary computed tomography.In chronic cholecystitis,preservation of a two-layered wall and weak wall enhancement are diagnostic clues for excluding malignancy.Magnetic resonance imaging in conjunction with diffusion-weighted imaging helps to differentiate xathogranulomatous cholecystitis from gallbladder cancer by identifying the presence of fat and degree of diffusion restriction.Such distinctions require a familiarity with typical imaging features of various gallbladder diseases and an understanding of the roles that assorted imaging modalities play in gallbladder evaluations. | Mi Hye Yu Young Jun Kim Hee Sun Park Sung Il Jung | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,22: | 9 |
| 5 | Assessing significant fibrosis using imaging-based elastography in chronic hepatitis B patients: Pilot study显示文摘BACKGROUND Accurate detection of significant fibrosis(fibrosis stage 2 or higher on the METAVIR scale)is important especially for chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients with high viral loads but with normal or mildly elevated alanine aminotransferase(ALT)levels because the presence of significant fibrosis is accepted as the indication for antiviral treatment.Liver biopsy is the reference standard for diagnosing significant fibrosis,but it is an invasive procedure.Consequently,noninvasive imaging-based measurements,such as magnetic resonance elastography(MRE)or two-dimensional shear-wave elastography(2DSWE),have been proposed for the quantitative assessment of liver fibrosis.AIM To explore MRE and 2D-SWE to identify fibrosis stage,and to compare their performance with that of serum-based indices.METHODS The study enrolled 63 treatment-na?ve CHB patients with high viral loads but with normal or mildly elevated ALT levels who underwent liver biopsy before a decision was made to initiate antiviral therapy.MRE and 2D-SWE were performed,and serum-based indices,such as FIB-4 and aspartate transaminase to platelet ratio index(APRI),were calculated.The diagnostic performances of MRE,2D-SWE,FIB-4,and APRI for assessing significant fibrosis(≥F2)and cirrhosis(F4)were evaluated with liver histology as the reference standard,using receiver operating characteristic analyses.RESULTS The liver fibrosis stage was F0/F1 in 19,F2 in 14,F3 in 14,and F4 in 16 patients,respectively.MRE significantly discriminated F2 from F0/1(P=0.022),whereas 2D-SWE showed a broad overlap in distinguishing those stages.MRE showed a higher correlation coefficient value with fibrosis stage than 2D-SWE with fibrosis stage(0.869 vs 0.649,Spearman test;P<0.001).Multivariate linear regression analyses showed that fibrosis stage was the only factor affecting the values of MRE(P<0.001),whereas body mass index(P=0.042)and fibrosis stage(P<0.001)were independent factors affecting 2D-SWE values.MRE performance for diagnosing significant fibrosis was better[area under the curve(AUC)=0.906,positive predictive value(PPV)97.3%,negative predictive value(NPV)69.2%]than that of FIB-4(AUC=0.697,P=0.002)and APRI(AUC=0.717,P=0.010),whereas the performance of 2D-SWE(AUC=0.843,PPV 86%,NPV 65%)was not significantly different from that of FIB-4 or APRI.CONCLUSION Compared to SWE,MRE might be more precise non-invasive assessment for depicting significant fibrosis and for making-decision to initiate antiviral-therapy in treatment-na?ve CHB patients with normal or mildly-elevated ALT levels. | Hee Sun Park Won Hyeok Choe Hye Seung Han Mi Hye Yu Young Jun Kim Sung Il Jung Jeong Han Kim So Young Kwon | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,25: | 7 |
| 6 | Recent Progress and Development in Extrusion of Rare Earth Free Mg Alloys: A Review显示文摘Mg and its alloys are the lightest structural metals available and are extremely attractive for applications as lightweight components, particularly in the automobile, electronic, and aerospace industries. The global market for wrought Mg alloys has steadily expanded over the past decade. And numerous studies have been carried out to meet this increasing demand of high-performance Mg alloys. However, Mg extrusion alloys have had a very limited usage so far. To overcome existing industrial challenges, one desirable approach is the development of low-cost rare earth(RE) free Mg extrusion alloys with superior mechanical properties. This review will introduce the recent research highlights in the extrusion of Mg alloys, specifi cally focusing on low-cost RE-free Mg alloy. The results from both the literature and our previous study are summarized and critically reviewed. Several aspects of RE-free Mg extrusion alloys are described in detail:(1) novel alloying designs including Mg–Al-, Mg–Zn-, Mg–Ca-, Mg–Sn-, and Mg–Bi-based alloys,(2) advanced extrusion techniques, and(3) extrusion-related severe plastic deformation(SPD) processing. Accordingly, considering the large gap in mechanical properties between the current RE-free Mg alloys and high-performance aluminum alloys, new alloy design, processing route control, and recommendations for future research on RE-free Mg extrusion alloys are also proposed. I n this work, spin dle-like Fe7S8 with n itroge rvdoped carb on (FeiS/N-C) nano hybrids are successfully syn thesized via a solvothermal method by sulfidation iron-based metal organic framework (FeMOF). As sodium ion battery an odes, FeySs/N-C nano hybrids exhibit high reversible capacity of 450.8 mAh g-1 at 200 mA·g^-1, and 406.7 mAh·g^-1 at 500 mA·g^-1 even after 500 cycles. They also show excellent rate properties and delivering the capacity of 327.8 mAh·g^-1 at a very high current density of 3.2 A·g^-1. These outstanding electrochemical performa nces can be attributed to the unique structure of Fe7S8/ N-C nan ohybrids. The nano scale dime nsion in their size can be ben eficial for facile ion and electro n tran sports. Furthermore, the stable n itroge n doped carb on frameworks can also improve electrical conductivity and relieve the problems related to volume expansion. | 10 | Role of stem cell therapies in treating chronic wounds:A systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND The impairment of cutaneous wound healing results in chronic,non-healing wounds that are caused by altered wound environment oxygenation,tissue injury,and permissive microbial growth.Current modalities for the treatment of these wounds inadequately address the complex changes involved in chronic wound pathogenesis.Consequently,stem cell therapies have emerged as a potential therapeutic modality to promote cutaneous regeneration through trophic and paracrine activity.AIM To investigate current literature regarding use of stem cell therapies for the clinical treatment of chronic,non-healing wounds.METHODS PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,and Scopus were queried with combinations of the search terms“mesenchymal stem cells,”“adult stem cells,”“embryonic stem cells,”“erythroid precursor cells,”“stem cell therapies,”and“chronic wounds”in order to find relevant articles published between the years of 2000 and 2019 to review a 20-year experience.Reference lists from the articles were reviewed to identify additional pertinent articles.Retrieved manuscripts(reviews,case reports/series,retrospective/prospective studies,and clinical trials)were evaluated by the authors for their depiction of clinical stem cell therapy use.Data were extracted from the articles using a standardized collection tool.RESULTS A total of 43 articles describing the use of stem cell therapies for the treatment of chronic wounds were included in this review.While stem cell therapies have been explored in in vitro and in vivo applications in the past,recent efforts are geared towards assessing their clinical role.A review of the literature revealed that adipose-derived stem cells,bone marrow-derived stem cells,bone marrowderived mononuclear cells,epidermally-derived mesenchymal stem cells,fibroblast stem cells,keratinocyte stem cells,placental mesenchymal stem cells,and umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells have all been employed in the treatment of chronic wounds of various etiologies.Most recently,embryonic stem cells have emerged as a novel stem cell therapy with the capacity for multifaceted germ cell layer differentiation.With the capacity for self-renewal and differentiation,stem cells can enrich existing cell populations in chronic wounds in order to overcome barriers impeding the progression of wound healing.Further,stem cell therapies can be utilized to augment cell engraftment,signaling and activity,and resultant patient outcomes.CONCLUSION Assessing observed clinical outcomes,potential for stem cell use,and relevant therapeutic challenges allows wound care stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding optimal treatment approaches for their patients’chronic wounds. | Anjali C Raghuram Roy P Yu Andrea Y Lo Cynthia J Sung Melissa Bircan Holly J Thompson Alex K Wong | 2020 | World Journal of Stem Cells2020,12,7: | 5 |
| 11 | Effect of a seasonal diffuse pollution migration on natural organic matter behavior in a stratified dam reservoir显示文摘This article aims to describe the influence of diffuse pollution on the temporal and spatial characteristics of natural organic matter (NOM) in a stratified dam reservoir,the Daecheong Dam,on the basis of intensive observation results and the dynamic water quality simulation using CE-QUAL-W2.Turbidity is regarded as a comprehensive representation of allochothonous organic matter from diffuse sources in storm season because the turbidity concentration showed reasonable significance in a statistical correlation with the UV absorbance at 254 nm and total phosphorus.CE-QUAL-W2 simulation results showed good consistency with the observed data in terms of dissolved organic matter (DOM) including refractory dissolved organic carbon (RDOC) and labile DOC and also well explained the internal movement of constituents and stratification phenomenon in the reservoir.Instead turbidity and NOM were related well in the upper region of the reservoir according to flow distance,gradually as changing to dissolved form of organic matter,RDOM affected organic matter concentration of reservoir water quality compared to turbidity.To control the increase of soluble organic matters in the dam reservoir,appropriate dam water discharge gate operation provided effective measurement.Because of the gate operation let avoid the accumulation of organic matter within a dam reservoir by shorten of turbid regime retention time. | Soon Ju Yu Jae Yil Lee Sung Ryong Ha | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,6: | 5 |

Evidence for the CSCs existence has been reported for a number of human cancers. The CSC mitochondria have been shown recently to be an important target for cancer treatment, but clinical significance of CSCs and their mitochondria properties remain unclear. Mitochondriatargeted agents are considerably more effective compared to other agents in triggering apoptosis of CSCs, as well as general cancer cells, via mitochondrial dysfunction. Mitochondrial metabolism is altered in cancer cells because of their reliance on glycolytic intermediates, which are normally destined for oxidative phosphorylation. Therefore, inhibiting cancer-specific modifications in mitochondrial metabolism, increasing reactive oxygen species production, or stimulating mitochondrial permeabilization transition could be promising new therapeutic strategies to activate cell death in CSCs as well, as in general cancer cells. | 18 | Influence of Bi addition on dynamic recrystallization and precipitation behaviors during hot extrusion of pure Mg显示文摘Low material cost and high extrudability for ensuring price competitiveness with Al alloys,as well as excellent mechanical properties,are essential for expanding the application range of Mg extrudates.Bi is a promising alloying element for developing extruded Mg alloys that satisfy such requirements.Bi is inexpensive,exhibits a high solubility limit,and forms a thermally stable Mg3Bi2 phase,which improves the commercial viability and enables the high-speed extrusion of Mg–Bi alloys.In this study,the effects of Bi addition on the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and dynamic precipitation behaviors during hot extrusion of a pure Mg and the resultant microstructure and mechanical properties of the extruded materials were investigated.The addition of 6 wt%and 9 wt%Bi to a pure Mg yielded numerous fine Mg3Bi2 precipitates during the early stage of hot extrusion.Consequently,the area fraction of dynamic recrystallized(DRXed)grains decreased because of DRX-behavior suppression by the Zener pinning effect.However,the DRXed grain size was substantially reduced through the grain-boundary pinning effect.The size and number of undissolved Mg3Bi2 particles in the homogenized billets increased when the Bi content was increased,which resulted in increased DRX fractions owing to the enhanced levels of particle stimulated nucleation.Bi addition yielded considerable strength improvement of the extruded pure Mg.However,the extruded Mg–Bi binary materials were less ductile than the extruded pure Mg material.This lower ductility resulted from the cracking at twins formed in the coarse unDRXed grains of the Mg-6Bi material and the cracking at large undissolved Mg3Bi2 particles in the Mg-9Bi material. | Jongbin Go Jong Un Lee Hui Yu Sung Hyuk Park | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,44,9: | 3 |
