| 9 | Effects of separate and mutual application of Na and Si on drought resistance of Haloxylon ammodendron显示文摘We studied pot cultivated Haloxylon ammodendron's growth, physiological changes and drought resistance under NaCl, H2SiO3 , and NaCl+H2SiO3 treatments. Results show that 0.3g/kg NaCl, 0.2g/kg H2SiO3 or 0.3g/kg NaCl+0.1g/kg H2SiO3 treatments can effectively promote growth and improve the drought resistance of H. ammodendron. Compared with that without NaCl treatment, H. ammodendron's height, crown diameter and fresh weight increased by 42%, 91% and 62% respectively under 0.3g/kg NaCl treatment, and its main stem diameter, main root diameter and main root length increased by 40%, 39% and 23%, respectively. Compared with that without H2SiO3 treatments, H. ammodendron's height, crown diameter and fresh weight increased by 36%, 45% and 27% respectively under 0.2g/kg H2SiO3 treatment, and its main stem diameter, main root diameter and main root length increased by 23%, 23% and 20%, respectively. Compared with that under 0.3 g/kg NaCl treatment, H. ammodendron's height, crown diameter and fresh weight and main root length increased by 9%, 10%, 17% and 12% respectively under 0.3g/kg NaCl+0.1g/kg H2SiO3 treatment. Compared with that under 0.1g/kg H2SiO3 treatment, H. ammodendron's height, crown diameter and fresh weight increased by 28%, 76% and 68% respectively under 0.3g/kg NaCl+0.1g/kg H2SiO3 treatment, and its main stem diameter, main root diameter and main root length increased by 30%, 32% and 27%, respectively. | 17 | Overexpression of ZxABCG11 from Zygophyllum xanthoxylum enhances tolerance to drought and heat in alfalfa by increasing cuticular wax deposition显示文摘Drought and heat stresses cause yield losses in alfalfa,a forage crop cultivated worldwide.Improving its drought and heat tolerance is desirable for maintaining alfalfa productivity in hot,arid regions.Cuticular wax forms a protective barrier on aerial surfaces of land plants against environmental stresses.ABCG11encodes an ATP binding cassette(ABC) transporter that functions in the cuticular wax transport pathway.In this study,Zx ABCG11 from the xerophyte Zygophyllum xanthoxylum was introduced into alfalfa by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation.Compared to the wild type(WT),transgenic alfalfa displayed faster growth,higher wax crystal density,and thicker cuticle on leaves under normal condition.Under either drought or heat treatment in greenhouse conditions,the plant height and shoot biomass of transgenic lines were significantly higher than those of the WT.Transgenic alfalfa showed excellent growth and 50% greater hay yield than WT under field conditions in a hot,arid region.Overexpression of Zx ABCG11 up-regulated wax-related genes and resulted in more cuticular wax deposition,which contributed to reduction of cuticle permeability and thus increased water retention and photosynthesis capacity of transgenic alfalfa.Thus,overexpression of Zx ABCG11 can simultaneously improve biomass yield,drought and heat tolerance in alfalfa by increasing cuticular wax deposition.Our study provides a promising avenue for developing novel forage cultivars suitable for planting in hot,arid,marginal lands. | Linbo Liu Aike Bao Hujun Li Wanpeng Bai Haishuang Liu Ye Tian Yiying Zhao Fangchen Xia Suomin Wang | 2023 | The Crop Journal2023,11,4: | 0 |
