1Solidification Studies of 3003 Aluminium Alloys with Cu and Zr Additions显示文摘The effects of Cu and Zr additions, on the microstructure formation, precipitation and ingot cracking, in commercial 3003 Al alloys have been studied. The investigation was carried out by characterizing the grain structure in DC-cast rolling ingots, and studying the solidification microstructure of Bridgman directionally solidified samples. To better understand the influence of the different Cu and Zr contents on the phase precipitations, differential thermal analysis (DTA) experiments were performed. Results from the ingot microstructure analysis show that in commercial alloys with relatively high contents of Cu and Zr, no significant differences in measured grain sizes compared to conventional 3003 Al alloys could be found. However, only Zr containing alloys exhibited significantly larger grain sizes. Increased grain refiner and/or titanium additions could compensate for the negative effects on nucleation normally following Zr alloying. Different types of precipitates were observed. Based on DTA experiments, increased Cu and Zr contents resulted in the formation of Al2Cu phase, and increased solidification range. It was also found that increased Mn content favors an early precipitation of Al6(Mn,Fe) giving relatively coarse precipitates. 2Surface Graphite Degeneration in Ductile Iron Castings for Resin Molds显示文摘The objective of this paper is to review the factors influencing the formation of degenerated graph- ite layers on the surfaces of ductile iron castings for chemical resins-acid molding and core-making systems and how to reduce this defect. In the resin mold technique the sulphur in the P-toluol sulphonic acid (PTSA), usually used as the hardener, has been identified as one factor causing graphite degeneration at the metal- mold interface. Less than 0.15% S in the mold (or even less than 0.07% S) can reduce the surface layer depth. Oxygen may also have an effect, especially for sulphur containing systems with turbulent flows in the mold, water-bearing no-bake binder systems, Mg-Silica reactions, or dross formation conditions. Despite the lower level of nitrogen in the iron melt after magnesium treatment (less than 90 ppm), nitrogen bearing res- ins have a profound effect on the frequency and severity of surface pinholes, but a limited influence on sur- face graphite degeneration.Iulian Riposan Mihai Chisamera Stelian Stan Torbjorn Skaland 2008Tsinghua Science and Technology2008,13,2:2
