1Strengthening reinforced concrete beams using prestressed glass fiber-reinforced polymer-Part I: Experimental study显示文摘This work is aimed at studying the strengthening of reinforced concrete (R. C.) beams using prestressed glass fi- ber-reinforced polymer (PGFRP). Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) has recently become popular for use as repair or rehabilitation material for deteriorated R. C. structures, but because CFRP material is very stiff, the difference in CFRP sheet and concrete material properties is not favorable for transferring the prestress from CFRP sheets to R. C. members. Glass fi- ber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) sheets with Modulus of Elasticity quite close to that of concrete was chosen in this study. The load-carrying capacities (ultimate loads) and the deflections of strengthened R. C. beams using GFRP and PGFRP sheets were tested and compared. T- and ⊥-shaped beams were used as the under-strengthened and over-strengthened beams. The GFRP sheets were prestressed to one-half their tensile capacities before being bonded to the T- and ⊥-shaped R. C. beams. The prestressed tension in the PGFRP sheets caused cambers in the R. C. beams without cracks on the tensile faces. The PGFRP sheets also enhanced the load-carrying capacity. The test results indicated that T-shaped beams with GFRP sheets increased in load-carrying capacity by 55% while the same beams with PGFRP sheets could increase load-carrying capacity by 100%. The ⊥-shaped beams with GFRP sheets could increase load-carrying capacity by 97% while the same beams with PGFRP sheets could increase the loading-carrying capacity by 117%. Under the same external loads, beams with GFRP sheets underwent larger deflections than beams with PGFRP sheets. While GFRP sheets strengthen R. 2Analytical and experimental bearing capacities of system scaffolds显示文摘We investigated the structural behavior and bearing capacity of system scaffolds.The research showed that the critical load of a system scaffold structure without diagonal braces is similar to that of a door-shaped steel scaffold structure.Joint stiffness between vertical props in system scaffolds can be defined based on a comparison between analytical and experimental results.When the number of scaffold stories increases,the critical loads of system scaffolds decrease.Diagonal braces markedly enhance the critical load of system scaffolds.The coupling joint position between vertical props should be kept away from story-to-story joints to prevent a reduction in critical loads.The critical load of a system scaffold decreases as the quantity of extended vertical props at the bottom of the structure increases.A large Christmas tree set up by system scaffolds under various loads was used as an example for analysis and to check the design of system scaffolds.Jui-lin PENG Tsong YEN Ching-chi KUO Siu-lai CHAN 2009Journal of Zhejiang University-Science A(Applied Physics & Engineering)2009,10,1:6
3Service fault tolerance for highly reliable service-oriented systems: an overview显示文摘Service-oriented systems are widely-employed in e-business, e-government, finance, management systems, and so on. Service fault tolerance is one of the most important techniques for building highly reliable service-oriented systems. In this paper, we provide an overview of various service fault tolerance techniques,including sections on fault tolerance strategy design, fault tolerance strategy selection, and Byzantine fault tolerance. In the first section, we introduce the design of static and dynamic fault tolerance strategies, as well as the major problems when designing fault tolerance strategies. After that, based on various fault tolerance strategies, in the second section, we identify significant components from a complex service-oriented system, and investigate algorithms for optimal fault tolerance strategy selection. 4A revisit of three studies related to random testing显示文摘Software testing is an approach that ensures the quality of software through execution, with a goal being to reveal failures and other problems as quickly as possible. Test case selection is a fundamental issue in software testing, and has generated a large body of research, especially with regards to the effectiveness of random testing(RT), where test cases are randomly selected from the software's input domain. In this paper, we revisit three of our previous studies. The first study investigated a sufficient condition for partition testing(PT)to outperform RT, and was motivated by various controversial and conflicting results suggesting that sometimes PT performed better than RT, and sometimes the opposite. The second study aimed at enhancing RT itself, and was motivated by the fact that RT continues to be a fundamental and popular testing technique. This second study enhanced RT fault detection effectiveness by making use of the common observation that failure-causing inputs tend to cluster together, and resulted in a new family of RT techniques: adaptive random testing(ART),which is random testing with an even spread of test cases across the input domain. Following the successful use of failure-causing region contiguity insights to develop ART, we conducted a third study on how to make use of other characteristics of failure-causing inputs to develop more effective test case selection strategies. This third study revealed how best to approach testing strategies when certain characteristics of the failure-causing inputs are known, and produced some interesting and important results. In revisiting these three previous studies, we explore their unexpected commonalities, and identify diversity as a key concept underlying their effectiveness.This observation further prompted us to examine whether or not such a concept plays a role in other areas of software testing, and our conclusion is that, yes, diversity appears to be one of the most important concepts in the field of software testing.CHEN Tsong Yueh KUO Fei-Ching TOWEY Dave ZHOU Zhi Quan 2015Science China(Information Sciences)2015,58,5:3

6Strengthening reinforced concrete beams using prestressed glass fiber-reinforced polymer-Part II:Analytical study显示文摘Strengthening reinforced concrete (R. C.) beams using prestressed glass fiber-reinforced polymer (PGFRP) was studied experimentally as described in Part I of this paper (Huang et al., 2005). In that paper, R. C. beams, R. C. beams with GFRP (glass fiber-reinforced polymer) sheets, and R. C. beams with PGFRP sheets were tested in both under-strengthened and over-strengthened cases. The test results showed that the load-carrying capacities (ultimate loads) of the beams with GFRP sheets were greater than those of the beams without polymer sheets. The load-carrying capacities of beams with PGFRP sheets were greater than those of beams with GFRP sheets. The objective of this work is to develop an analytical method to compute all of these load-carrying capacities. This analytical method is independent of the experiments and based only on the traditional R. C. and P. C. (prestressed concrete) theory. The analytical results accorded with the test results. It is suggested that this analytical method be used for analyzing and designing R.
