2Chinese expert consensus on cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for peritoneal malignancies显示文摘Locoregional spread of abdominopelvic malignant tumors frequently results in peritoneal carcinomatosis(PC). The prognosis of PC patients treated by conventional systemic chemotherapy is poor, with a median survival of < 6 mo. However, over the past three decades, an integrated treatment strategy of cytoreductive surgery(CRS) + hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC) has been developed by the pioneering oncologists, with proved efficacy and safety in selected patients. Supported by several lines of clinical evidence from phases Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ clinical trials, CRS + HIPEC has been regarded as the standard treatment for selected patients with PC in many established cancer centers worldwide. In China, an expert consensus on CRS + HIPEC has been reached by the leading surgical and medical oncologists, under the framework of the China Anti-Cancer Association. 3Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soils of Beijing and Tianjin region: Vertical distribution, correlation with TOC and transport mechanism显示文摘The contents and distribution of 20 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (HAHs) were investigated in 16 soil profiles of Beijing and Tianjin region. Transport of high molecular weight PAHs (HMWPAHs) and the correlation between total organic carbon (TOC) and their concentrations were also discussed. The results indicated that highly contaminated sites were located at urban or wastewater irrigation areas and pollutants mainly accumulated in topsoil (< 40 cm), with a sharp content decrease at the vertical boundary of 30-40 cm. Total PAHs/HAHs concentrations in soils from Tianjin were markedly greater than those from Beijing. Even the contents at bottoms of soil profiles in Tianjin were higher than those in topsoils of Beijing soil profile. HMWPAHs dominated the PAH profiles, exhibiting a uniform distribution of pyrogenic origin between topsoils and deep layers. Furthermore, the percentages of HMWPAHs remained relative constant with the depth of soil profiles, which were consistent with the distribution of particulate matter-associated PAHs in the local atmospheric environments. 5Analysis of risk factors for postoperative pancreatic fistula following pancreaticoduodenectomy显示文摘AIM:To explore the morbidity and risk factors of postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF)following pancreaticoduodenectomy.METHODS:The data from 196 consecutive patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy,performed by different surgeons,in the General Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army between January 1st,2013and December 31st,2013 were retrospectively collected for analysis.The diagnoses of POPF and clinically relevant(CR)-POPF following pancreaticoduodenectomy were judged strictly by the International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula Definition.Univariate analysis was performed to analyze the following factors:patient age,sex,body mass index(BMI),hypertension,diabetes mellitus,serum CA19-9 level,history of jaundice,serum albumin level,blood loss volume,pancreatic duct diameter,pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy,pancreatic drainage and pancreaticojejunostomy.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the main independent risk factors for POPF.RESULTS:POPF occurred in 126(64.3%)of the patients,and the incidence of CR-POPF was 32.7%(64/196).Patient characteristics of age,sex,BMI,hypertension,diabetes mellitus,serum CA19-9 level,history of jaundice,serum albumin level,blood loss volume,pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy and pancreaticojejunostomy showed no statistical difference related to the morbidity of POPF or CR-POPF.Pancreatic duct diameter was found to be significantly correlated with POPF rates by univariate analysis and multivariate regression analysis,with a pancreatic duct diameter≤3 mm being an independent risk factor for POPF(OR=0.291;P=0.000)and CR-POPF(OR=0.399;P=0.004).The CR-POPF rate was higher in patients without external pancreatic stenting,which was found to be an independent risk factor for CR-POPF(OR=0.394;P=0.012).Among the entire patient series,there were three postoperative deaths,giving a total mortality rate of 1.5%(3/196),and the mortality associated with pancreatic fistula was 2.4%(3/126).CONCLUSION:A pancreatic duct diameter≤3 mm is an independent risk factor for POPF.External stent drainage of pancreatic secretion may reduce CR-POPF mortality and POPF severity.Qi-Yu Liu Wen-Zhi Zhang Hong-Tian Xia Jian-Jun Leng Tao Wan Bin Liang Tao Yang Jia-Hong Dong 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,46:32

9Cyclical one-way continental rupture-drift in the Tethyan evolution: Subduction-driven plate tectonics显示文摘Numerous continents have rifted and drifted away from Gondwana to repeatedly open ocean basins over the past-500 millionyears.These Gondwana-derived continents drifted towards and collided with components of the Eurasian continent to successively close the preexisting oceans between the two.Plate tectonics satisfactorily describes the continental drift from Gondwana to Eurasia but does not define the geodynamic mechanism of continuously rifting to collisions of continents in the Tethy an Realm.After reappraisal of geological records of the rift,collision and subduction initiation from the surface and various geophysical observations from depth,we propose that Eurasia-directed subducting oceanic slabs would have driven Tethyan system in the Phanerozoic.The Eurasia-directed subduction would have dragged the passive Gondwana margin to rift and drift northwards,giving birth to new oceans since the Paleozoic.The closure of preexisting oceans between the Gondwana-derived continents and Eurasia led to continental collisions,which would have induced the initiation of oceanic subduction in the Tethyan Realm.Multiple episodic switches between collision-subduction-rift repeatedly led to the separation of continental fragments from Gondwana and dragged them to drift towards Eurasia.The final disappearance of Neo-Tethy s would have induced collision of the Gondwana-derived continents with the Eurasian continent,giving rise to the Cenozoic Alpine-Zagros-Himalayan collisional system.Therefore,the Eurasia-directed oceanic subduction would have acted as a’one-way train’that successively transferred the ruptured Gondwana continental fragments in the south,into the terminal in the north.In this regard,the engine of this'Tethyan one-way train'is the negative buoyancy of subducting oceanic slabs.Bo WAN Fuyuan WU Ling CHEN Liang ZHAO Xiaofeng LIANG Wenjiao XIAO Rixiang ZHU 2019Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12:21
10Discovery of Paleogene marine stratum along the southern side of Yarlung-Zangbo suture zone and its implications in tectonics显示文摘The Jiachala Formatiom is a new lithostratigraphic unit set up in this paper. This is the first report on the Paleogene marine sequences and microfaunas in Gyangze to the southern side of the Yarlung-Zangbo suture zone. On the basis of fossil abundance, species diversity, dominant species and first and last occurrences of key species, three dinoflagellate assemblages and three polynological assemblages were recognized in the Jiachala Formatiom. They are in ascending order as follows: Apectodinium quinquelatum-Apectodinium hyperacanthum, Cannin- gia chinensis-Palaeoperidinium pyrophorum and Cymatiosphaera reticulosa-Samlandia chla- mydophora dinoflagellate assemblages, and Arliaceoipollenites baculatus-Anacolosidites sub- trudens, Aglaoreidia cyclops-Pinuspollenites microinsigis, and Elaeangnacites asper-Ilexpol- lenites iliacus polynological Assemblages. According to the assemblages, the age of the Jiachala Formation is referred to Paleocene-early Eocene. The preliminary study on the Jiachala Forma- tion shows that this group of Paleogene deposits accumulated in an underfilled peripheral fore- land basin which was in response to the load of the crust thickening resulted from the Asia-India collision. The stratigraphic evidences provided by the evolution of foreland basin indicate that the India-Asia initional collision should occure near the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary. The de- velopment and evolution of the southern Tibet foreland basin was under the control of the stress field from the subduct-collision between India and Asia and the structure pattern of the basement. 12Global patterns of the responses of leaf-level photosynthesis and respiration in terrestrial plants to experimental warming显示文摘Aims The balance between leaf photosynthesis and respiration of terrestrial plants determines the net carbon(C)gain by vegetation and consequently is important to climate–C cycle feedback.This study is to reveal the global patterns of the responses of leaf-level net photosynthesis and dark respiration to elevated temperature.Methods Data for leaf-level net photosynthesis rate(P_(n))and dark respiration rate(R_(d))in natural terrestrial plant species with standard deviation(or standard error or confidence interval)and sample size were collected from searched literatures on Web of Science.Then a metaanalysis was conducted to estimate the effects of experimental warming on leaf-level P_(n) and R_(d) of terrestrial plants.Important findings Across all the plants included in the analysis,warming enhanced P_(n) and R_(d) significantly by 6.13 and 33.14%,respectively.However,the responses were plant functional type(PFT)specific.Specifically,photosynthesis of C_(4) herbs responded to experimental warming positively but that of C_(3) herbs did not,whereas their respiratory responses were similar,suggesting C_(4) plants would benefit more from warming.The photosynthetic response declined linearly with increasing ambient temperature.The respiratory responses linearly enhanced with the increase in warming magnitude.In addition,a thermal acclimation of R_(d),instead of P_(n),was observed.Although greater proportion of fixed C was consumed(greater R_(d)/P_(n) ratio),warming significantly enhanced the daily net C balance at the leaf level.This provides an important mechanism for the positive responses of plant biomass and net primary productivity to warming.Overall,the findings,including the contrastive responses of different PFTs and the enhancement in daily leaf net C balance,are important for improving model projection of the climate–C cycle feedback.Junyi Liang Jianyang Xia Lingli Liu Shiqiang Wan 2013Journal of Plant Ecology2013,6,6:18
13Primary dolostone formation related to mantle-originated exhalative hydrothermal activities,Permian Yuejingou section,Santanghu area, Xinjiang,NW China显示文摘The Permian Lucaogou Formation is an important hydrocarbon source rock in the Junggar, Turpan, and Santanghu basins in Xinjiang, NW China. For the first time, dolostones associated with mantle-originated exhalative hydrothermal fluid flows are discovered in Yuejingou section in the Santanghu Basin area. They include dolomicrite, doloarenite, and a small amount of dolorudite, and are finely (0.05-0.15 cm thick) interlaminated with lime micrite and dolomicritic analcime laminites. Alkali feldspar and analcime grains are common in doloarenite and are interpreted as having been derived from analcime phonolites and peralkaline magmatic rocks. These magmatic fragments were brought up from subsurface by hydrothermal fluid flow and had experienced exhalative brecciation, transport, and deposition on the lake floor. The matrix consists dominantly of dolomite and ankerite smaller than 0.01 mm. The dolostones can be subdivided into four types on the basis of mineral composition and content. The detrital analcime and alkaline feldspar grains and tuff lithics are interpreted as intraclasts, which were deposited in an under-filled starved lake basin. The δ18OPDB values of dolostones are -5‰ to -21.1‰, and -11.9‰ on average; the 87Sr/86Sr ratios of dolostones are 0.70457 to 0.706194, and 0.705005 on average. These values, in combination with evidence of multi-episodes of peralkaline extrusion, suggest a mantle origin of the hydrothermal fluids, which may have promoted primary dolomite formation. The fluid from the upper mantle caused serpentinization of ultramafic rocks that intruded into the lower crust to obtain Mg2+ and Fe2+, and injected the ions into the lake water as the Mg and Fe sources for dolomite and ankerite. Hydro- thermal fluids associated with peralkaline magmatic rocks also provided Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+, and CO32-. Explosive breccias formed and dolostones were convoluted near the vent of hydrothermal fluid exhalation, whereas laminated dolostones formed farther away from the vent. The dolostones are primary dolomite deposition in an intracontinental rift basin and associated with mantle-originated hydrothermal fluids. 14Natural course of chronic hepatitis B is characterized by changing patterns of programmed death type-1 of CD8-positive T cells显示文摘AIM:To investigate if and how programmed death type-1(PD-1)expression affects the natural course of hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection. METHODS:Sixty-four patients in different natural stages of chronic HBV infection were enrolled in this study.PD-1 expression in total T cells was detected by flow cytometry.Levels of total CD8+T cell responses and proliferation in relation to PD-1 expression levels were analyzed with intracellular staining and PD-1/ PD-L1 blockage. RESULTS:The PD-1 expression in T cells was dynamically changed during the natural course of chronic HBV infection,did not significantly increase in the immune tolerance phase,and returned to normal in the inactive virus carrier stage.Blockage of the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway could not affect the T-cell response in the immune tolerance and inactive virus carrier stages of chronic HBV infection.However,it could significantly restore the T-cell response in the immune clearance stage of chronic HBV infection.Furthermore,the PD-1 expression level in T cells was associated with the alanine aminotransferase level during the immune clearance stage of chronic HBV infection. 15Understanding hydraulic fracture propagation behavior in tight sandstone–coal interbedded formations: an experimentalinvestigation显示文摘Whether hydraulic fractures could connect multiple gas zones in the vertical plane is the key to fracturing treatment to jointly exploit coalbed methane and tight sandstone gas through integrative hydraulic fracturing in tight sandstone–coal interbedded formations. Laboratory true triaxial hydraulic fracturing experiments were conducted on layered specimens with di erent combination types of natural sandstone and coal to simulate the propagation behavior of hydraulic fractures. The effects of the fracture initiation position, fracturing fluid viscosity and injection rate were discussed. The results showed that di erent fracture morphologies could be found. When initiating from coal seams, three patterns of fracture initiation and propagation were obtained:(1) The main hydraulic fracture initiated and propagated along the natural fractures and then diverged due to the effects of in situ stress and formed secondary fractures.(2) The hydraulic fracture initiated and propagated in the direction of the maximum horizontal stress.(3) Multiple fractures initiated and propagated at the same time. With the same fracturing fluid viscosity and injection rate, the hydraulic fractures initiating in sandstones had greater chances than those in coal seams to penetrate interfaces and enter neighboring layers. Excessively small or large fracturing fluid viscosity and injection rate would do harm to the vertical extension height of the induced fracture and improvement of the stimulated reservoir volume. Compared with operation parameters(fracturing fluid viscosity and injection rate), the natural weak planes in coals were considered to be the key factor that a ected the fracture propagation path. 16Endothelium-specific SIRT1 overexpression inhibits hyperglycemia-induced upregulation of vascular cell senescence显示文摘The rapidly increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus worldwide is one of the most serious and challenging health problems in the 21st century.Mammalian sirtuin 1(SIRT1) has been shown to decrease high-glucose-induced endothelial cell senescence in vitro and prevent hyperglycemia-induced vascular dysfunction.However,a role for SIRT1 in prevention of hyperglycemia-induced vascular cell senescence in vivo remains unclear.We used endothelium-specific SIRT1 transgenic(SIRT1-Tg) mice and wild-type(WT) mice to construct a 40-week streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic mouse model.In this mode,42.9% of wild-type(WT) mice and 38.5% of SIRT1-Tg mice were successfully established as diabetic.Forty weeks of hyperglycemia induced significant vascular cell senescence in aortas of mice,as indicated by upregulation of expression of senescence-associated markers including p53,p21 and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1(PAI-1).However,SIRT1-Tg diabetic mice displayed dramatically decreased expression of p53,p21 and PAI-1 compared with diabetic WT mice.Moreover,manganese superoxide dismutase expression(MnSOD) was significantly downregulated in the aortas of diabetic WT mice,but was preserved in diabetic SIRT1-Tg mice.Furthermore,expression of the oxidative stress adaptor p66Shc was significantly decreased in aortas of SIRT1-Tg diabetic mice compared with WT diabetic mice.Overall,these findings suggest that SIRT1-mediated inhibition of hyperglycemia-induced vascular cell senescence is mediated at least partly through the reduction of oxidative stress.CHEN HouZao WAN YanZhen ZHOU Shuang LU YunBiao ZHANG ZhuQin ZHANG Ran CHEN Feng HAO DeLong ZHAO Xiang GUO ZhiChen LIU DePei LIANG ChihChuan 2012Science China(Life Sciences)2012,55,6:14

18Aeroelastic optimization on composite skins of large aircraft wings显示文摘This paper presents studies of aeroelastic optimization on composite skins of large aircraft wings subject to aeroelastic constraints and strength/strain constraints. The design variable for optimization was the ply thickness of the wing skin panels, and the structural weight was the objective function to be minimised. The impacts of three strength/strain constraints and the ply proportion of the wing skin panels on the optimization results are discussed. The results indicate that the optimal composite wings that satisfy different constraints have remarkable weight advantages over metal wing. High levels of stiffness can be achieved while satisfying the constraints regarding allowable design strains and failure criteria. The optimization results with variable-proportions indicate that wing skins with higher proportions of 0° plies from the root to the middle segment and ±45° plies outboard have a more efficient and reasonable stiffness distribution.LIANG Lu WAN ZhiQiang YANG Chao 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,4:10
19Subduction tectonics vs.plume tectonics——Discussion on driving forces for plate motion显示文摘Plate tectonics describes the horizontal motions of lithospheric plates,the Earths outer shell,and interactions among them across the Earths surface.Since the establishment of the theory of plate tectonics about half a century ago,considerable debates have remained regarding the driving forces for plate motion.The early'Bottom up'view,i.e.,the convecting mantledriven mechanism,states that mantle plumes originating from the core-mantle boundary act at the base of plates,accelerating continental breakup and driving plate motion.Toward the present,however,the'Top down'idea is more widely accepted,according to which the negative buoyancy of oceanic plates is the dominant driving force for plate motion,and the subducting slabs control surface tectonics and mantle convection.In this regard,plate tectonics is also known as subduction tectonics.'Top down'tectonics has received wide supports from numerous geological and geophysical observations.On the other hand,recent studies indicate that the acceleration/deceleration of individual plates over the million-year timescale may reflect the effects of mantle plumes.It is also suggested that surface uplift and subsidence within stable cratonic areas are correlated with plumerelated magmatic activities over the hundred-million-year timescale.On the global scale,the cyclical supercontinent assembly and breakup seem to be coupled with superplume activities during the past two billion years.These correlations over various spatial and temporal scales indicate the close relationship and intensive interactions between plate tectonics and plume tectonics throughout the history of the Earth and the considerable influence of plumes on plate motion.Indeed,we can acquire a comprehensive understanding of the driving forces for plate motion and operation mechanism of the Earth's dynamic system only through joint analyses and integrated studies on plate tectonics and plume tectonics.Ling CHEN Xu WANG Xiaofeng LIANG Bo WAN Lijun LIU 2020Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,3:10
20Focusing on the recent progress of tea polyphenol chemistry and perspectives显示文摘Myriad evidence attests to the health-promoting benefits of tea drinking.While there are multiple factors of tea influencing the effective biological properties,tea polyphenols are the most significant and valuable components.The chemical characterization and physical characteristics of tea polyphenols have been comprehensively studied over the previous years.Still the emergence of new chemistry in tea,particularly the property of scavenging reactive carbonyl species(RCS)and the newly discovered flavoalkaloid compounds,has drawn increasing attention.In this review,we summarize recent findings of a new class of compounds in tea-flavonoid alkaloids(flavoalkaloids),which exist in fresh tea leaves and can be generated during the process of post-harvesting,and also postulate the formation mechanism of flavoalkaloids between catechins and theanine-derived Strecker aldehyde.Additionally,we detail the up-to-date research results of tea polyphenols regarding their ability to trap RCS and their in vivo aminated metabolites to suppress advanced glycation ends products(AGEs).We further raise questions to be addressed in the near future,including the synthetic pathways for the generation of flavoalkaloids and AGEs in fresh tea leaves before processing and the concentrations of tea polyphenols that affect their RCS scavenging capability due to their pro-oxidant nature.More intensive research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms of action underlying the biological activity of flavoalkaloids and the pharmacological application of tea polyphenols in scavenging RCS and impeding detrimental AGEs.Shiming Li Liang Zhang Xiaochun Wan Jianfeng Zhan Chi-Tang Ho 2022Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,3:10
