A Flexible Hingeless Control Surface Inspired by Aquatic Animals显示文摘A flexible hingeless control surface model was proposed for motion control of Underwater Vehicles (UVs),which is inspiredby the flexible bending control surfaces of underwater creatures, such as fish and squid.Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation demonstrates that,in comparison with the hinged or rigid control surface, the proposed flexible bendingcontrol surface can suppress the flow separation so as to improve the turning performance.A prototype of the flexible controlsurface was fabricated,in which Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wires were selected as the actuators. The elastic energy storageand exchange mechanism was incorporated into the actuation of the control surface to improve the efficiency.Thermal analysisof SMA wires was performed to find proper actuating condition.Open-loop bending experiments were carried out.The resultsshow that the proposed control surface can achieve the maximum bending angle of 104°.Moreover,the power and energyconsumption under different pulse conditions were compared. | Zhenlong Wang,Jian Li,Guanrong Hang,Yangwei Wang State Key Laboratory of Robotics and System,Harbin Institute of Technology,Harbin 150001,P.R.China | 2010 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2010,7,4: | 3
Kinematic Optimization of Bionic Shoulder Driven by Pneumatic Muscle Actuators Based on Particle Swarm Optimization显示文摘A bionic shoulder joint with three degree-of-freedom(DOF)driven by pneumatic muscle actuator is proposed and its corresponding kinematic model is established. The bionic shoulder is optimized by particle swam optimization(PSO)with the fitness standards that the requirements of rotation indexes are met and the fluctuation of motion is kept in the lowest resolution in a pneumatic muscle actuator range.Simulation considering rotation indexes only(first simulation)is compared with the one considering both rotation indexes and motion resolution(second simulation)subsequently.Mounting position of the pneumatic muscle actuators in bionic shoulder is optimized after initializing the same condition in simulations. Results show that the fluctuations of parameters are consistent, and the parameters of the first simulation have good convergence than those of the second one. With the increase of stretch rate of the pneumatic muscle actuator, the needed length of fixed link in the center of static platform decreases in optimization. | Liu Kai Ge Zhishang Xu Jiaqi Gu Baotong Wang Yangwei Zhao Dongbiao | 2016 | Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2016,33,3: | 3
Rotation Control of a 3-DOF Parallel Mechanism Driven by Pneumatic Muscle Actuators显示文摘The pneumatic muscle actuator(PMA)has many advantages, such as good flexibility, high power/weight ratio, but its nonlinearity makes it difficult to build a static mathematical model with high precision.A new method is proposed to establish the model of PMA.The concept of hybrid elastic modulus which is related to the static characteristic of PMA is put forward, and the energy conservation law is used to achieve the expression of the hybrid elastic modulus, which can be fitted out based on experimental data, and the model of PMA can be derived from this expression. At the same time,a 3-DOF parallel mechanism(a new bionic shoulder joint)driven by five PMAs is designed. This bionic shoulder joint adopts the structure of two antagonistic PMAs actualizing a rotation control and three PMAs controlling another two rotations to get better rotation characteristics. The kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the mechanism are analyzed and a new static model of PMA is used to control it.Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this new static model. | LIU Kai CHEN Yining WU Yang XU Jiaqi WANG Yangwei GE Zhishang | 2019 | Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2019,36,2: | 2

Microstructure evolution of Mg-Zn-Zr magnesium alloy against soft steel core projectile显示文摘The study aimed to shed light on the post deformation and damage behavior of an extruded Mg-Zn-Zr alloy under a ballistic impact. The results revealed that the initial microstructure consisted of both{0001}basal and{1010}prismatic fiber texture. After impact, adiabatic shear bands, pronounce different twinning in big grains,,,andtypes of dislocations, and grain refinement through twinning induce recrystallization accommodated the strain, and absorbed∼65.7%of the energy during impact carried by a soft steel projectile.Interestingly, the deformation behavior at the top broad sides of the crater was entirely different. The weak basal texture was changed to a strong prismatic texture, which was further proved by typical sigmoidal compressive stress-strain curves.A revised model for the development of the ultra-fine grains adjacent to the crater has been proposed. The microhardness and yield strength was∼33%and∼40%higher and chiefly ascribed to strain hardening in ultra-fine grained near the surface of the perforation path. The exit of the perforation path was severely damaged and forms onion-shaped concentric rings which were comprised of melted zones, dimples, and cracks.Based on the all interesting findings, this study can be a clue for the development of the lightweight Mg alloy for military and aerospace applications. | Abdul Malik Yangwei Wang Huanwu Cheng Faisal Nazeer Muhammad Abubaker Khan | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,20: | 1
Post deformation analysis of the ballistic impacted magnesium alloys,a short-review显示文摘From the mechanistic point of view, magnesium alloys are lightweight materials and are receiving increasing attention in the past several years in various fields.Prof.Liang Zhen from Harbin Institute of Technology,China and the United State military are showing keen interest in the development of magnesium alloys as ballistic resistant material. However, their use is still limited owing to low ductility, low formability, and average mechanical properties. The magnesium alloys components must withstand the shockwave under hypervelocity ballistic impact. The ballistic testing can produce gradient variations of the strain and stress-energy away from the crater, and useful for the development of these alloys in the military and aerospace industry. Therefore, the present review article shed light on the post deformation analysis of the Mg alloys subjected to the different projectiles under ballistic impact, and the underlying mechanisms were discussed. In the end, some important issues regarding the ballistic impact and further studies in this field were proposed. | Abdul Malik Yangwei Wang Cheng Huanwu Faisal Nazeer Muhammad Abubaker Khan | 2021 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2021,9,5: | 1
The Fabrication of Gas-driven Bionic Soft Flytrap Blade and Related Feasibility Tests显示文摘Unlike most animals, plants fail to move bodily at will. However, movements also occur in every single part of plants out of energy and nutrients needs, spanning from milliseconds to hours on a time scale. And with the growing understanding of plant movement in the academic community, bionic soft robots based on plant movement principles are increasingly studied and are considered by scientists as a source of inspiration for innovative engineering solutions. In this paper, through the study of the biological morphology, microstructure, and motion mechanism of the flytrap,we developed chambered design rules, and designed and fabricated a gas-driven bionic flytrap blade, intending to investigate its feasibility of performing complex bending deformation. The experimental result shows that the bionic flytrap blade can achieve multi-dimensional bending deformation, and complete the bending and closing action within 2 s.The performance of the bionic flytrap blade fabricated is in high agreement with the real flytrap blade in terms of bending and deformation, achieving an excellent bionic design effect. In this study, the chambered design rules of the bionic flytrap blade were proposed and developed, and the possibility of its deformation was investigated. The effects of different chamber types and different flow channel design precepts on the bending deformation of the bionic flytrap blade were revealed, together with the relationship between the response time and flow rate of the bionic flytrap blade. At last, this study provides new ideas for the study of plant blade motion mechanism in a hope to expand the application fields of bionic robots, especially hope to offer solutions for plant-type robotics. | Yangwei Wang Jie Yan Jian Li Meizhen Huang Zhibo Luan | 2023 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2023,20,2: | 1
Thermodynamics-guided two-way interlocking DNA cascade system for universal multiplexed mutation detection显示文摘Detection of point mutations in driver genes is of great significance for the early diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic evaluation of cancer. However, current detection methods do not offer versatility, specificity, and rapid performance simultaneously. Thus, multiple mutation detection processes are necessary, which results in long processing times and high costs. In this study,we developed a thermodynamics-guided two-way interlocking DNA cascade system for universal multiplexed mutation detection(TTI-CS).This strategy is based on the DNA probe, which changes the thermodynamic balance of the DNA cascade by the designed bubble structure, thereby achieving a good distinction between mutant and wild-type DNA.The designed method greatly shortens the detection time through two-way intrusion. In addition, this method only changes two inexpensive trigger and bridge sequences, which replace the specific and expensive nucleic acid probes used in analyses based on traditional DNA probe methods, thereby enabling multiple detections. We performed the detection of synthetic single-stranded DNA for the five mutation points and successfully detected in endometrial cancer specimens. The detection limit of this method is0.1%,which better meets the needs of clinical low-abundance multiple mutation detection.Overall,TTI-CS is currently one of the best methods for detecting multiple mutation detections. | Wei Zhang Liquan Liu Yangwei Liao Wan Shu Xiaofeng Tang Kejun Dong Zhihao Ming Xianjin Xiao Hongbo Wang | 2022 | Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,1: | 0
An Improved Gorilla Troops Optimizer Based on Lens Opposition-Based Learning and Adaptive β-Hill Climbing for Global Optimization显示文摘Gorilla troops optimizer(GTO)is a newly developed meta-heuristic algorithm, which is inspired by the collective lifestyle and social intelligence of gorillas.Similar to othermetaheuristics, the convergence accuracy and stability of GTOwill deterioratewhen the optimization problems to be solved becomemore complex and flexible. To overcome these defects and achieve better performance, this paper proposes an improved gorilla troops optimizer(IGTO).First,Circle chaotic mapping is introduced to initialize the positions of gorillas, which facilitates the population diversity and establishes a good foundation for global search. Then,in order to avoid getting trapped in the local optimum, the lens opposition-based learning mechanism is adopted to expand the search ranges.Besides,a novel local search-based algorithm, namely adaptiveβ-hill climbing,is amalgamated with GTO to increase the final solution precision.Attributed to three improvements, the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the basic GTOare greatly enhanced. The performance of the proposed algorithm is comprehensively evaluated and analyzed on 19 classical benchmark functions. The numerical and statistical results demonstrate that IGTO can provide better solution quality, local optimumavoidance, and robustness compared with the basic GTOand five other wellknown algorithms. Moreover, the applicability of IGTOis further proved through resolving four engineering design problems and training multilayer perceptron. The experimental results suggest that IGTO exhibits remarkable competitive performance and promising prospects in real-world tasks. | Yaning Xiao Xue Sun Yanling Guo Sanping Li Yapeng Zhang Yangwei Wang | 2022 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2022,,5: | 0
Tuning microstructures of TC4 ELI to improve explosion resistance显示文摘A reasonable heat treatment process for TC4 ELI titanium alloy is crucial to tune microstructures to improve its explosion resistance. However, there is limited investigation on tuning microstructures of TC4 ELI to improve explosion resistance. Moreover, the current challenge is quantifying microstructural changes'effects on explosion resistance and incorporating microstructural changes into finite element models. This work aims to tune microstructures to improve explosion resistance and elucidate their anti-explosion mechanism, and find a suitable method to incorporate microstructural changes into finite element models. In this work,we systematically study the deformation and failure characteristics of TC4 ELI plates with varying microstructures using an air explosion test and LS-DYNA finite element modeling. The Johnson-Cook(JC)constitutive parameters are used to quantify the effects of microstructural changes on explosion resistance and incorporate microstructural changes into finite element models.Because of the heat treatment, one plate has equiaxed microstructure and the other has bimodal microstructure. The convex of the plate after the explosion has a quadratic relationship with the charge mass, and the simulation results demonstrate high reliability, with the error less than 17.5%.Therefore,it is feasible to obtain corresponding JC constitutive parameters based on the differences in microstructures and mechanical properties and characterize the effects of microstructural changes on explosion resistance. The bimodal target exhibits excellent deformation resistance. The response of bimodal microstructure to the shock wave may be more intense under explosive loading. The well-coordinated structure of the bimodal target enhances its resistance to deformation. | Changle Zhang Yangwei Wang Lin Wang Zixuan Ning Guoju Li Dongping Chen Zhi-Wei Yan Yuchen Song Xucai Wang | 2024 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2024,33,3: | 0
Enhanced Harris Hawks Optimization Integrated with Coot Bird Optimization for Solving Continuous Numerical Optimization Problems显示文摘Harris Hawks Optimization(HHO)is a novel meta-heuristic algorithm that imitates the predation characteristics of Harris Hawk and combines Lévy flight to solve complex multidimensional problems.Nevertheless, the basic HHO algorithm still has certain limitations, including the tendency to fall into the local optima and poor convergence accuracy.Coot Bird Optimization(CBO)is another new swarm-based optimization algorithm.CBO originates from the regular and irregular motion of a bird called Coot on the water’s surface.Although the framework of CBO is slightly complicated,it has outstanding exploration potential and excellent capability to avoid falling into local optimal solutions. This paper proposes a novel enhanced hybrid algorithm based on the basic HHO and CBO named Enhanced Harris Hawks Optimization Integrated with Coot Bird Optimization(EHHOCBO).EHHOCBO can provide higher-quality solutions for numerical optimization problems. It first embeds the leadership mechanism of CBO into the population initialization process of HHO.This way can take full advantage of the valuable solution information to provide a good foundation for the global search of the hybrid algorithm.Secondly, the Ensemble Mutation Strategy(EMS)is introduced to generate the mutant candidate positions for consideration, further improving the hybrid algorithm’s exploration trend and population diversity. To further reduce the likelihood of falling into the local optima and speed up the convergence,Refracted Opposition-Based Learning(ROBL)is adopted to update the current optimal solution in the swarm.Using 23 classical benchmark functions and the IEEE CEC2017 test suite, the performance of the proposed EHHOCBO is comprehensively evaluated and compared with eight other basic meta-heuristic algorithms and six improved variants.Experimental results show that EHHOCBO can achieve better solution accuracy, faster convergence speed, and a more robust ability to jump out of local optima than other advanced optimizers in most test cases. Finally,EHHOCBOis applied to address four engineering design problems. Our findings indicate that the proposed method also provides satisfactory performance regarding the convergence accuracy of the optimal global solution. | Hao Cui Yanling Guo Yaning Xiao Yangwei Wang Jian Li Yapeng Zhang Haoyu Zhang | 2023 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2023,,11: | 0
