Chronic intermittent hypoxia induces cardiac inflammation and dysfunction in a rat obstructive sleep apnea model显示文摘Chronic intermittent hypoxia is considered to play an important role in cardiovascular pathogenesis during the development of obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).We used a well-described OSA rat model induced with simultaneous intermittent hypoxia.Male Sprague Dawley rats were individually placed into plexiglass chambers with air pressure and components were electronically controlled. The rats were exposed to intermittent hypoxia 8 hours daily for 5weeks.The changes of cardiac structure and function were examined by ultrasound. The cardiac pathology, apoptosis, and fibrosis were analyzed by H&E staining,TUNNEL assay, and picosirius staining, respectively. The expression of inflammation and fibrosis marker genes was analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot.Chronic intermittent hypoxia/low pressure resulted in significant increase of left ventricular internal diameters(LVIDs),endsystolic volume(ESV),end-diastolic volume(EDV),and blood lactate level and marked reduction in ejection fraction and fractional shortening.Chronic intermittent hypoxia increased TUNNEL-positive myocytes, disrupted normal arrangement of cardiac fibers, and increased Sirius stained collagen fibers. The expression levels of hypoxia induced factor(HIF)-l α,NF-κB,IL-6,and matrix metallopeptidase 2(MMP-2) were significantly increased in the heart of rats exposed to chronic intermittent hypoxia. In conclusion, the left ventricular function was adversely affected by chronic intermittent hypoxia, which is associated with increased expression of HIF-lα and NF-κB signaling molecules and development of cardiac inflammation, apoptosis and fibrosis.Qin Wei Yeping Bian Fuchao Yu Qiang Zhang Guanghao Zhang Yang Li Songsong Song Xiaomei Ren Jiayi Tong 2016The Journal of Biomedical Research2016,30,6:15
Computer Simulation of Mechanical Properties of Nano-scale Cu/FeS Composite显示文摘The mechanical properties of nano-scale Cu/FeS composite were simulated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation in this paper. Through the analysis on the stress-strain curves, the results of MD simulation were in good agreement with mechanisms of macroscopic deformation. When the size of particles was smaller than a certain value, the relationship between yield strength and size, which was different from the large size crystals abided by the contrary Hall-Petch relationship. Based on the discussion of nano-scale Cu/FeS composite, some interesting conclusions were obtained. For example, the 'S' type curves were discovered in stress-strain curves and the anisotropy of FeS was very evident when the exposures of reinforcing phase (FeS) were different and so on. The basic theories and calculations of the composite that contains nano-scale particles were discussed. At the same time, a new modeling building method of composites, which was close to actual experiences, were considered in this paper.Zhenjun Hong Jingchao Chen Jing Feng Yeping Du Jie Yu Lijuan Zhang Shuzhen Wu Futai Xu 2010Journal of Materials Science & Technology2010,26,4:2
Comparison of pencil beam and Monte Carlo calculations with ion chamber array measurements for patient-specific quality assurance显示文摘Objective:To determine under what conditions and criteria comparisons between calculations made with the current clinical treatment planning system(Syngo)and an in-house built TPS(TIMPS)would allow skipping of in-beam portal-specific measurements. Methods:Measurements were made with an array of 24 ion chambers in a water phantom for 227 proton and 313 carbon ion portals with and without a range shifter(RS).These measurements were compared with calculations performed with Syngo and TIMPS using metrics of average dose difference and Gamma index. Results:For proton portals without RS,if a Gamma comparison between TIMPS and Syngo passed using criteria of 90%of tested points being within 3%and 3 mm,then 74%of measurements would agree with both TIMPS and Syngo. For proton portals with RS,more than 80%of measurements would agree with both calculations using the same criteria. For carbon ion portals without RS,if a Gamma evaluation between TIMPS and Syngo passed with criteria of 90%of tested points being within 2%and 2 mm,85%of measurements would agree with both cal-culations.For carbon ion portals with RS,if a Gamma evaluation between TIMPS and Syngo passed with criteria of 90%of tested points being within 3%and 3 mm,60%of measurements would agree with both calculations. Conclusions:Both the pencil beam algorithm in Syngo and the FDC algorithm in TIMPS can provide accurate dose calculations in water for most clinical portals. For about 75%of portals, physicists can perform comparisons of calculations instead of phantom measurements to verify Syngo calculations thereby saving a large amount of beam time. There are some portals, however, such as for low-energy protons without RS and high-energy carbon ions, where agreement between the two calculations and measurements are not yet satisfactory to allow the elimination of all measurements.Yu Deng Zhi Chen Qianxia Wang Pablo Yepes Zhuangming Shen Hongliang Chen Jie Li Michael F.Moyers 2022Radiation Medicine and Protection2022,3,3:2

Verification of an independent dose calculation method for portal-specific QA of proton and carbon ion beams显示文摘Objective:To verify the accuracy of an independent dose calculation method,as incorporated into an in-house developed treatment planning system(TPS),for performing quality assurance of dose distributions delivered to a water phantom planned by a clinical TPS.Methods:A Monte Carlo based track repeating algorithm was incorporated into an in-house treatment planning system for proton and carbon ion beams.Calculations were performed in a flat water phantom for both a traditional pencil beam algorithm and a new Monte Carlo algorithm, and then compared to measurements made at multiple depths with a 2D ionization array for 44 patient portals. The comparisons utilized a Gamma analysis. Results:A total of 124 measurements were performed for proton and carbon ion patient portals.Using a small Gamma criteria of 2%/2 mm,an average of 93%and 97%of measurement points passed for each portal for pencil beam and Monte Carlo calculations, respectively. The passing rate was substantially higher for Monte Carlo calculations than for pencil beam calculations for portals that used a range shifter. Conclusions:The implemented independent method has been verified against measurements. The high passing rate with small tolerances leads to the possibility of reducing the number of required quality assurance measurements.Michael F.Moyers Qianxia Wang Yu Deng Hongliang Chen Zhi Chen Xiaoli Liu Nicki Schlegel Jie Li Zhuangming Shen James Lin Pablo Yepes 2022Radiation Medicine and Protection2022,3,3:1

Adding Fuel to the Fire by Increased GABAergic Inhibition:A Seizure-Amplifying Nigra-Parafascicular Pathway显示文摘Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures. Most anti epileptic drugs (AEDs)work by regulating the balance of the excitatory glutamatergic and inhibitory GABAergic transmission. However, the current AEDs cannot successfully control seizures in most (>70%) patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE)[1],in whom seizures typically begin in the hippocampus. This may be caused by changes in the synaptic efficacy and remodeling of neural circuits, such as alterations in the distribution/expression of GABA_A receptor subunits and mossy-fiber sprouting.Since Dr.Karen Gale and colleagues originally described the seizure-modulating effects of nigral GABAergic transmission in the early 1980s [2]。Yeping Ruan Rongrong Chen Jie Yu Chengping Wen Zhenghao Xu 2021Neuroscience Bulletin2021,37,1:1

Effect of Intermittent Androgen Blockade on the Quality of Life of Patients with Advanced Prostate Carcinoma显示文摘OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of intermittent androgen blockade (IAB)on the quality of life(QOL)of patients with advanced prostatic carcinoma(APC). METHODS Investigations on the QOL of 51 APC patients receiving IAB treatment, totaling 3 times,i.e.6 months before and after, and 12 months after treatment, were perform using the EORTC QLQ-C30 measuring scale and QLQ-PR25 scale. RESULTS Although IAB became an economic burden for the families,it was lessened during the intermission(P<0.05).The overall health status significantly improved 6 months after IAB treatment(P<0.01),especially during the intermission(P<0.05),with a total or local easement of pain(P<0.01)and an improvement of urinary function(P<0.01).Although there was impairment, to various degrees,in many functions of the patients on the 6th month of treatment, such as the physical function(P<0.05),role function(P<0.05),the emotional(P<0.01)and the social functions(P<0.01),with an enhancement of fatigue(P<0.01),these functions gradual y recovered by the 12th month as the intermission started.Treatment-related symptoms such as flushing and mammary swel ing significantly emerged on the 6th treatment month (P<0.01),and lessened on the 12th(P<0.01).During the treatment period, there was an notable drop in sexual interest(P<0.01),with a deprivation of sex life, but revived to various degrees during the intermission(P<0.01). CONCLUSION Although IAB treatment of APC patients did impair the physiologic and psychologic status of patients to varying degrees, these were improved and restored during the intermission.Wei Chen Zhexian Deng Zhixlan Yu FangyiZhang Shengye Chen Yeping Li Xiuiing Wu Zhiliang Weng 2007Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology2007,4,6:0
