| 1 | Essential oils used in aromatherapy: A systemic review显示文摘Nowadays, use of alternative and complementary therapies with mainstream medicine has gained the momentum. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies which use essential oils as the major therapeutic agents to treat several diseases. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of the plant by various methods. It came into existence after the scientists deciphered the antiseptic and skin permeability properties of essential oils. Inhalation, local application and baths are the major methods used in aromatherapy that utilize these oils to penetrate the human skin surface with marked aura. Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a friendly manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. This type of therapy utilizes various permutation and combinations to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications etc. The essential oils are found to be more beneficial when other aspects of life and diet are given due consideration. This review explores the information available in the literature regarding therapeutic, medical, cosmetic, psychological, olfactory, massage aromatherapy, safety issues and different plants used in aromatherapy. | 2 | PI3K signaling pathway targeting by using different molecular approaches to treat cancer显示文摘Recent evidence of research has been proposed that the phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K) pathway is noticeable target for searching novel anticancer agents. The phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K) is accountable for harmonizing a diverse range of cell functions, such as transcription, proliferation, cell survival, cell growth, degranulation, vesicular trafficking and cell migration, which are mostly involved in carcinogenesis. Particularly, PI3K-mediated signaling molecules and its effects on gene expression contribute to tumorigenesis. PI3Ks generally are grouped into three distinct classes: Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ according to their structure and function. The class IA of PI3K includes an alpha, beta or delta p110 catalytic subunit(p110α, p110β, or p110γ), which are associated with the activation of RTKs. Mutations in PIK3CA, the gene encoding the p110α catalytic subunit of PI3K, have just been recognized as novel mechanisms of inducing oncogenic PI3K signaling. Therefore, the class IA PI3K is the only one of most evidently implicated in cancer. The PI3K pathway is mostly mutated in more cancer patients compared with normal person, making it an eyecatching molecular target for analyses based on inhibitor molecule. In this article, we highlighted the signaling effects and regulation pathway of PI3K involved in the development and survival of tumor cells. | 3 | Range extension of four highland agamid lizards in Shimshal Pamir,Pakistan显示文摘As part of the Sino-Pak trans-boundary cooperation for conservation and sustainable development in Pamir border region,World Wild Fund (WWF)-Pakistan conducted a preliminary social,economic and ecological survey in the Shimshal-Pamir Lakes area in July 2009.The purpose of the study was to explore potentials and opportunities for future collaborative conservation of some species,habitats and high altitude ecosystems in the border region between China and Pakistan.The two-week herpetological study in the Shimshal Pamir area of Khunjerab National Park (KNP) along Pakistan-China border was an integral part of the survey,conducted exclu-sively to document reptilian fauna with a special emphasis on investigating their occurrence,distribution and status in the study area.Field investigations were performed during daytime when it was hot enough and reptiles were active,basking or feeding.A total of 15 specimens belonging to four species of the Agamidae family were captured by striking stones and beating bushes with sticks.Collected specimens were preserved using 10% formalin solution,tagged with field information and stored in Zoological Survey Department,Karachi for future reference.Laboratory investigations were carried out for pholidosic counts and morphometric measurements.A detailed review of relevant literature,habitat characteristics and laboratory investigations revealed the occurrence of Laudakia himalayana,L.pakistanica,L.tuberculata and L.badakhshana at 4,082 m,4,172 m,4,005 m and 4,240 m asl,respectively,which are much higher altitudes as compared to the previously reported heights of 3,353 m,3,200 m,2,500 m and 2,400 m asl.The terrain offers a variety of ecological barriers,in the form of fast and freezing running waters and massive glaciers with peculiar harsh climatic conditions prevailing for nine months of the year,which restricts species migration and thus increases endemism.Although one of the four species recorded from the study area,i.e.L.pakistanica is endemic to Pakistan,L.tuberculata and L.badakhshana are new records from Shimshal,Pakistan,so a detailed investigation is suggested for further herpetological records from the study area. | Babar KHAN Waseem AHMED Abdukadir Ablimit Shamim FAKHRI Hassan ALI | 2012 | Journal of Arid Land2012,4,1: | 2 |
| 4 | Anxiolytic potential of ursolic acid derivative-a stearoyl glucoside isolated from Lantana camara L.(verbanaceae)显示文摘Objective:To investigate the anxiolytic activity of newly isolated compound by our lab called ursolic acid stearoyl glucoside(UASG) from the leaves of Lantana camam(L camam).Methods: Column chromatography was used to isolate UASG.Anxiolytic potential was experimentally proved and demonstrated through Elevated plus-maze,Open field and light and dark test. | 10 | Supporting tuberculosis program in active contact tracing:a case study from Pakistan显示文摘Tuberculosis(TB)is on the rise in Pakistan and there could be multiple reasons including poverty,difficulty in access to TB treatment services,non-compliance with treatment,social stigma etc.According to the TB program managers,limited treatment and testing sites for tuberculosis and lack of trained human resources play a major role in compromising TB management.A major lacuna in the TB control program is the absence of active contact tracing strategy.This is essential for a disease where positive cases are known to be able to infect a further 10-15 individuals in a year.Tackling tuberculosis in Pakistan has been beleaguered by funding challenges and other systems’bottlenecks such as lack of skilled human resources and insufficient supply of medicines,despite the fact that disease burden is one of the highest in the world.Although it is a notifiable disease,active case finding,contact tracing and reporting is notoriously low throughout the country.Access to diagnostics and treatment facilities has been limited and stigma attached to the disease remains deeply entrenched among the communities.Researchers have shown that enhanced and active approaches to contact investigation effectively identifies additional patients with TB among household contacts at a relatively modest cost.USAID’s Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery Activity extended support to the Health Departments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.In collaboration with the two provincial TB programs,community based active contact tracing was conducted on 17,696 individuals,based on the index cases.Among the contacts traced,243 cases were diagnosed as drug sensitive or drug resistant TB.Awareness sessions were conducted to sensitize people on the various aspects of disease and importance of getting tested.The project also supported establishing three satellite Programmatic Management of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis(PMDT)sites for drug resistant TB treatment,enhancing the programs’diagnostic and testing capacity. | Babar Tasneem Shaikh Ahmed Khan Laghari Sulaiman Durrani Alina Chaudhry Nabeela Ali | 2022 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2022,11,2: | 1 |
| 11 | SC Currents Minimization in Distributed Generation Embedded Distribution Networks with Optimal Application of FCLs显示文摘For meeting the increased demand of electrical power,distributed generation(DG)based on renewable energy resources(RERs),has become a potential alternative to large plants based on fossil fuels.The power from environmentally friendly RERs is available at a competitive price due to technological advancements in recent times.Moreover,optimal allocation of DG at the distribution network(DN)level may result in power loss reduction,improvement in voltage profile and the network’s overall reliability.However,integration of DG may increase the short circuit(SC)level beyond the capacity of the protection gear,conductors,transformers and other components of a DN.The high short circuit currents(SCCs)may be reduced by application of a fault current limiter(FCL).However,most of the existing literature proposes optimization of FCLs size by considering only normal configurations of a DN.This approach is inappropriate as it may fail to produce the desired reduction in SCCs in different N−1 contingency scenarios.In this paper,a new strategy is presented that considers both normal as well as various contingency situations for optimal allocation of FCLs in a DN with DG connection.The strategy is implemented in the IEEE 30-bus system in a MATLAB environment using a genetic algorithm(GA).The simulation results prove that the proposed strategy is effective in determining the optimal FCLs size that restricts the SCCs to a safe level in different operating conditions including N−1 contingencies and thus,improves network safety and reliability.The strategy described in the paper can play an important role in DN planning involving optimal application of DG and FCLs. | Irtaza Sohail Babar Hussain M.Abubakar Intisar Ali Sajjad M.Faisal Nadeem Muhammad Sarwar | 2022 | CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2022,8,5: | 1 |

| 16 | Prediction of promiscuous T-cell epitopes in the Zika virus polyprotein:An in silico approach显示文摘Objective:To predict immunogenic promiscuous T-cell epitopes from the polyprotein of the Zika virus using a range of bioinformatics tools.To date,no epitope data are available for the Zika virus in the IEDB database.Methods:We retrieved nearly 54 full length polyprotein sequences of the Zika virus from the NCBI database belonging to different outbreaks.A consensus sequence was then used to predict the promiscuous T cell epitopes that bind MHC 1 and MHC II alleles using Propred1 and Propred immunoinformatic algorithms respectively.The antigencity predicted score was also calculated for each predicted epitope using the Vaxi Jen 2.0 tool.Results:By using Pro Pred1,23 antigenic epitopes for HLA class I and 48 antigenic epitopes for HLA class II were predicted from the consensus polyprotein sequence of Zika virus.The greatest number of MHC class I binding epitopes were projected within the NS5(21%),followed by Envelope(17%).For MHC class II,greatest number of predicted epitopes were in NS5(19%) followed by the Envelope,NS1 and NS2(17% each).A variety of epitopes with good binding affinity,promiscuity and antigenicity were predicted for both the HLA classes.Conclusion:The predicted conserved promiscuous T-cell epitopes examined in this study were reported for the first time and will contribute to the imminent design of Zika virus vaccine candidates,which will be able to induce a broad range of immune responses in a heterogeneous HLA population.However,our results can be verified and employed in future efficacious vaccine formulations only after successful experimental studies. | Hamza Dar Tahreem Zaheer Muhammad Talha Rehman Amjad Ali Aneela Javed Gohar Ayub Khan Mustafeez Mujtaba Babar Yasir Waheed | 2016 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2016,9,9: | 0 |

| 18 | Enhancement of gut permeation of amoxicillin with Nigella sativa seed extract and its phytochemical screening显示文摘The seeds of Nigella sativa Linn.(Ranunculaceae), commonly known as Black cumin, are predominantly used as carminative, antispasmodic, and stimulant. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of N. sativa seed extract on the permeation of co-infused amoxicillin across the gut wall. The methanolic extract of N. sativa improved intestinal permeability of amoxicillin in in-vitro experiments in a dose-dependent manner. Two new glycosides, decanyl nigelloic acid diglucoside [n-decanyl-3-aldehydic-4-methoxy-5-hydroxy benzoate-5-β-D-glucofuranosyl(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranoside]] and nigelabdienoyl triglucoside [homo-labd-5, 9(11)-dien-16-onyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranosyl(2→1)-β-D-glucopyranoside], along with seven known fatty acid glycerides/esters, were isolated from the gut permeation enhancing extract.
