Estimation of particle depth from two defocused images using the Fourier transform显示文摘Depth from defocus is one technology for depth estimation. We estimate particle depth information from two defocused images captured simultaneously by two coaxial cameras with different imaging distances. The images are processed with the Fourier transform to obtain the characteristic parameter(i.e.,the standard deviation of the relative blur kernel of these two defocused images).First,we theoretically analyze the functional relationship between the object depth and the standard deviation or variation of the relative blur kernel. Then,we verify the relationship experimentally. We analyze the influence of particle size, window size and image noise on the calibration curves using both numerical simulations and experiments. We obtain the depth range and accuracy of this measurement system experimentally. For the verification experiments,we use a sample of glass microbeads and the irregularly-shaped dust particles on a microscope slide. Both of these experiments present a suitable depth measurement result. Finally,we apply the measuring system to the depth estimation of drops from a small anti-fogging spray. The results show that our system and image processing algorithm are robust for different types of particles, facilitating the in-line three-dimensional positioning of particles. | Wu Zhou Xu Luo Benting Chen Yukun Zhang Xiaoshu Cai | 2020 | Particuology2020,18,2: | 2

Rdh13 deficiency weakens carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury by regulating Spotl4 and Cyp2e1 expression levels显示文摘Mitochondrion-localized retinol dehydrogenase 13 (Rdh13) is a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase involved in vitamin A metabolism in both humans and mice. We previously generated Rdh13 knockout mice and showed that Rdh13 deficiency causes severe acute retinal light damage. In this study, considering that Rdh13 is highly expressed in mouse liver, we further evaluated the potential effect of Rdh13 on liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride (CC14). Although Rdh13 deficiency showed no significant effect on liver histology and physiological functions under regular culture, the Rdh13^-/- mice displayed an attenuated response to CCl4-induced liver injury. Their livers also exhibited less histological changes and contained lower levels of liver-related metabolism enzymes compared with the livers of wild-type (WT) mice. Furthermore, the Rdhl3 1 mice had Rdh13 deficiency and thus their liver cells were protected from apoptosis, and the quantity of their proliferative cells became lower than that in WT after CC14 exposure. The ablation of Rdhl3 gene decreased the expression levels of thyroid hormone-inducible nuclear protein 14 (Spot14) and cytochrome P450 (Cyp2el) in the liver, especially after CC14 treatment for 48 h. These data suggested that the alleviated liver damage induced by CC14 in Rdh13^-/- mice was caused by Cyp2el enzymes, which promoted reductive CC14 metabolism by altering the status of thyroxine metabolism. This result further implicated Rdhl3 as a potential drug target in preventing chemically induced liver injury. | Xiaofang Cui Benting Ma Yan Wang Yan Chen Chunling Shen Ying Kuang Jian Fei Lungen Lu Zhugang Wang | 2019 | Frontiers of Medicine2019,13,1: | 1

Mycotoxins in Chinese Traditional Cured Meats: A Review显示文摘Chinese cured meats are popular in the world, which are not only meat products but also cultures in China.Fungi can grow on the surface of the traditional cured meats easily during the processing and storage. Some fungi contribute to the specific flavors, color and sensory characteristics of cured meats, while others produce mycotoxins like aflatoxins, ochratoxins, and deoxynivalenol, which will lead to cancer.Although the mycotoxins limits in food have been published by national standard in China, the limits in cured meats are still in blank. Therefore,it is reasonable to identify and reduce the mycotoxins in Chinese cured meats and meat products. This review analyzed the causes of mycotoxins, identification and control methods for Chinese cured meats. | Lili JI Dan HE Benting HUANG Rui WANG Ting BAI Jiamin ZHANG Lin CHEN Wei WANG | 2020 | Agricultural Biotechnology2020,9,2: | 1

Neuronal architecture and functional mapping of the taste center of larval Helicoverpa armigera(Lepidoptera:Noctuidae)显示文摘The sense of taste plays a crucial role in herbivorous insects by discriminating nutrients from complex plant metabolic compounds. The peripheral coding of taste has been thoroughly studied in many insect species, but the central gustatory pathways are poorly described. In the present study,we characterized single neurons in the gnathal ganglion of Helicoverpa armigera larvae using the intracellular recording/staining technique. We identified different types of neurons, including sensory neurons, interneurons, and motor neurons. The morphologies of these neurons were largely diverse and their arborizations seemingly covered the whole gnathal ganglion. The representation of the single neurons responding to the relevant stimuli of sweet and bitter cues showed no distinct patterns in the gnathal ganglion. We postulate that taste signals may be processed in a manner consistent with the principle of population coding in the gnathal ganglion of H.armigera larvae. | Long-Long Sun Xiao-Lan Liu Ya-Nan Wang Bente G.Berg Gui-Ying Xie Wen-Bo Chen Yang Liu Gui-Rong Wang Xin-Cheng Zhao Qing-Bo Tang | 2022 | Insect Science2022,29,3: | 0
Functional map of the macroglomerular complex of male Helicoverpaarmigera显示文摘The mechanism of sex pheromone reception in the male cotton bollworm Helicoverpa armigera has been extensively studied because it has become an important model system for understanding insect olfaction. However, the pathways of pheromone processing from the antenna to the primary olfactory center in H.armigera have not yet been clarified. Here, the physiology and morphology of male H.armigera olfactory sensory neurons(OSNs)were studied using single sensillum recording along with anterograde filling and intracellular recording with retrograde filling.OSNs localized in type A sensilla responded to the major pheromone component cis-11-hexadecenal,and the axonal terminals projected to the cumulus(Cu)of the macroglomerular complex(MGC).The OSNs in type B sensilla respondcd to the bchavioral antagonist cis-9-tetradecenal,and the axonal terminals projected to the dorsomedial anterior(DMA)unit of the MGC.In type C sensilla, there were 2 OSNs:one that responded to cis-9-tetradecenal and cis-11-hexadecenol with the axonal terminals projecting to the DMA,and another that responded to the secondary pheromone components cis-9-hexadecenal and cis-9-tetradecenal with the axonal terminals projecting to the dorsomedial posterior(DMP)unit of the MGC.Type A and type B sensilla also housed the secondary OSNs,which were silent neurons with axonal terminals projected to the glomerulus G49 and DMP.Overall, the neural pathways that carry information on attractiveness and aversiveness in response to female pheromone components in H.armigera exhibit distinct projections to the MGC units. | Xiao-Lan Liu Xi Chu Long-Long Sun Ya-Nan Wang Gui-Ying Xie Wen-Bo Chen Yang Liu Bente GBerg Shi-Heng An Gui-Rong Wang Xin-Ming Yin Xin-Cheng Zhao | 2023 | Insect Science2023,30,1: | 0
