Using old liver grafts for liver transplantation: Where are the limits?显示文摘The scarcity of ideal liver grafts for orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT) has led transplant teams to investigate other sources of grafts in order to augment the donor liver pool. One way to get more liver grafts is to use marginal donors, a not well-defined group which includes mainly donors > 60 years, donors with hypernatremia or macrosteatosis > 30%, donors with hepatitis C virus or hepatitis B virus positive serologies, cold ischemia time > 12 h, non-heart-beating donors, and grafts from split-livers or living-related donations. Perhaps the most practical and frequent measure to increase the liver pool, and thus to reduce waiting list mortality, is to use older livers. In the past years the results of OLT with old livers have improved, mainly due to better selection and maintenance of donors, improvements in surgical techniques in donors and recipients, and intra- and post-OLT management. At the present time, sexagenarian livers are generally accepted, but there still exists some controversy regarding the use of septuagenarian and octogenarian liver grafts. The aim of this paper is to briefly review the aging process of the liver and reported experiences using old livers for OLT. Fundamentally, the series of septuagenarian and octogenarian livers will be addressed to see if there is a limit to using these aged grafts. | Carlos Jiménez-Romero Oscar Caso Maestro Félix Cambra Molero Iago Justo Alonso Cristina Alegre Torrado Alejandro Manrique Municio Jorge Calvo Pulido Carmelo Loinaz Segurola Enrique Moreno González | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,31: | 11
Prevalence of vacA, cagA and babA2 genes in Cuban Helicobacter pylori isolates显示文摘AIM: To investigate the prevalence of vacuolating cytotoxin (vacA), cytotoxin associated gene A (cagA) and blood adhesion binding antigen (babA2) genotypes of Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) isolates from Cuban dyspeptic patients. METHODS: DNA was extracted from H pylori-positive cultures taken from 130 dyspeptic patients. Genotyping was performed by PCR, using specifi c primers for vacA (s1, s2, m1, m2), cagA and babA2 genes. Endoscopic observations and histological examinations were used to determine patient pathologies. RESULTS: vacA alleles s1 , s2 , m1 and m2 were detected in 96 (73.8%), 34 (26.2%), 75 (57.7%) and 52 isolates (40%), respectively, while the cagA gene was detected in 95 isolates (73.2%). One hundred and seven isolates (82.3%) were babA2-positive. A signif icant correlation was observed between vacAs1m1 and cagA and between vacAs1m1 and babA2 genotypes (P < 0.001 and P < 0.05, respectively) and between babA2 genotype and cagA status (P < 0.05); but, no correlation was observed between vacAs1 and babA2 genotypes. Eighty fi ve (65.4%) and 73 (56.2%) strains were type 1 (vacAs1-cagA-positive) and 'triple- positive' (vacAs1-cagA-babA2-positive), respectively, and their presence was significantly associated with duodenal ulcer (P < 0.01 and P < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSION: The distribution of the main virulence factors in the Cuban strains in this study resembled that of the Western-type strains, and the more virulent H pylori isolates were signifi cantly associated with duodenal ulcer, ulcer disease being the worst pathology observed in the group studied. | Lino E Torres Karelia Melián Arlenis Moreno Jordis Alonso Carlos A Sabatier Mayrín Hernández Ludisleydis Bermúdez Boris L Rodríguez | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,2: | 4
Flow near a model spur dike with a fixed scoured bed显示文摘Three-dimensional flow velocities were measured using an acoustic Doppler velocimeter at a closely spaced grid over a fixed scoured bed with a submerged spur dike.Three-dimensional flow velocities were measured at 3,484 positions around the trapezoidal shaped submerged model spur dike.General velocity distributions and detailed near field flow structures were revealed by the measurement.Clear differences were revealed between flow over fixed flat and scoured beds.Strong lateral flows were the dominant cause of the observed local scour.Shear stresses were higher for the scoured bed than in the flat bed case.Decreasing rates of scour as the scour hole developed were attributed to increases in critical shear stress in the scour holes caused by the increase in the length and magnitude of adverse slopes associated with the two main scour holes. | Roger KUHNLE Carlos ALONSO | 2013 | International Journal of Sediment Research2013,28,3: | 4
An elastin-like recombinamer-based bioactive hydrogel embedded with mesenchymal stromal cells as an injectable scaffold for osteochondral repair显示文摘The aim of this study was to evaluate injectable,in situ cross-linkable elastin-like recombinamers(ELRs)for osteochondral repair. Both the ELR-based hydrogel alone and the ELR-based hydrogel embedded with rabbit mesenchymal stromal cells(rMSCs)were tested for the regeneration of critical subchondral defects in 10 New Zealand rabbits. Thus, cylindrical osteochondral defects were filled with an aqueous solution of ELRs and the animals sacrificed at 4months for histological and gross evaluation of features of biomaterial performance, including integration, cellular infiltration, surrounding matrix quality and the new matrix in the defects.Although both approaches helped cartilage regeneration, the results suggest that the specific composition of the rMSC-containing hydrogel permitted adequate bone regeneration, whereas the ELR-based hydrogel alone led to an excellent regeneration of hyaline cartilage. In conclusion, the ELR cross-linker solution can be easily delivered and forms a stable well-integrated hydrogel that supports infiltration and de novo matrix synthesis. | Filippo Cipriani Blanca Arino Palao Israel Gonzalez de Torre Aurelio Vega Castrillo Hector Jose Aguado Hernandez Matilde Alonso Rodrigo Angel Jose Alvarez Barcia Ana Sanchez Veronica Garcıa Diaz Monica Lopez Pena Jose Carlos Rodriguez-Cabello | 2019 | Regenerative Biomaterials2019,6,6: | 3
Clinical features and radiological manifestations of COVID-19 disease显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)was discovered after unusual cases of severe pneumonia emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan Province(China).Coronavirus is a family of single-stranded RNA viruses.Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is transmitted from person to person.Although asymptomatic individuals can transmit the virus, symptomatic patients are more contagious. The incubation period ranges from 3-7 d and symptoms are mainly respiratory, including pneumonia or pulmonary embolism in severe cases.Elevated serum levels of interleukins(IL)-2,IL-6,IL-7 indicate the presence of cytokine release syndrome, which is associated with disease severity. The disease has three main phases:Viral infection, pulmonary involvement, and hyperinflammation. To date,no treatment has proved to be safe or effective.Chest X-ray and computed tomography(CT)are the primary imaging tests for diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia,follow-up,and detection of complications. The main radiological findings are ground-glass opacification and areas of consolidation. The long-term clinical course is unknown, although some patients may develop pulmonary fibrosis.Positron emission tomography-computed tomography(PETCT)is useful to assess pulmonary involvement,to define the affected areas, and to assess treatment response. The pathophysiology and clinical course of COVID-19 infection remain poorly understood. However, patterns detected on CT and PETCT may help to diagnose and guide treatment. In this mini review,we analyze the clinical manifestations and radiological findings of COVID-19 infection. | Pedro Landete Carlos Andres Quezada Loaiza Beatriz Aldave-Orzaiz Susana Hernandez Muniz Antonio Maldonado Enrique Zamora Allan Charles Sam Cerna Elia del Cerro Raquel Cano Alonso Felipe Counago | 2020 | World Journal of Radiology2020,12,11: | 2
Projections of weak braided Hopf algebras显示文摘In this paper we study the projections of weak braided Hopf algebras using the notion of Yetter-Drinfeld module associated with a weak braided Hopf algebra. As a consequence, we complete the study ofthe structure of weak Hopf algebras with a projection in a braiding setting obtaining a categorical equivalencebetween the category of weak Hopf algebra projections associated with a weak Hopf algebra H living in abraided monoidal category and the category of Hopf algebras in the non-strict braided monoidal category ofleft-left Yetter-Drinfeld modules over H. | ALONSO LVAREZ Jos Nicanor FERNNDEZ VILABOA Jos Manuel GONZLEZ RODRíIGUEZ Ramón SONEIRA CALVO Carlos | 2011 | Science China Mathematics2011,54,5: | 1
