1Developmental dysplasia of the hip in the newborn: A systematic review显示文摘Developmental dysplasia of the hip(DDH) denotes a wide spectrum of conditions ranging from subtle acetabular dysplasia to irreducible hip dislocations. Clinical diagnostic tests complement ultrasound imaging in allowing diagnosis, classification and monitoring of this condition. Classification systems relate to the alpha and beta angles in addition to the dynamic coverage index(DCI). Screening programmes for DDH show considerable geographic variation; certain risk factors have been identified which necessitate ultrasound assessment of the newborn. The treatment of DDH has undergone significant evolution, but the current gold standard is still the Pavlik harness. Duration of Pavlik harness treatment has been reported to range from 3 to 9.3 mo. The beta angle, DCI and the superior/lateral femoral head displacement can be assessed via ultrasound to estimate the likelihood of success. Success rates of between 7% and 99% have been reported when using the harness to treat DDH. Avascular necrosis remains the most devastating complication of harness usage with a reported rate of between 0% and 28%. Alternative non-surgical treatment methods used for DDH include devices proposed by LeD amany, Frejka, Lorenz and Ortolani. The Rosen splint and Wagner stocking have also been used for DDH treatment. Surgical treatment for DDH comprises open reduction alongside a combination of femoral or pelvic osteotomies. Femoral osteotomies are carried out in cases of excessive anteversion or valgus deformity of the femoral neck. The two principal pelvic osteotomies most commonly performed are the Salter osteotomy and Pemberton acetabuloplasty. 2Determination of blast-induced ground vibration equations for rocks using mechanical and geological properties显示文摘In the recent decades,effects of blast loads on natural and man-made structures have gained considerable attention due to increase in threat from various man-made activities.Site-specific empirical relationships for calculation of blast-induced vibration parameters like peak particle velocity(PPV) and peak particle displacement(PPD) are commonly used for estimation of blast loads in design.However,these relationships are not able to consider the variation in rock parameters and uncertainty of in situ conditions.In this paper,a total of 1089 published blast data of various researchers in different rock sites have been collected and used to propose generalized empirical model for PPV by considering the effects of rock parameters like unit weight,rock quality designation(RQD),geological strength index(GSI),and uniaxial compressive strength(UCS).The proposed PPV model has a good correlation coefficient and hence it can be directly used in prediction of blast-induced vibrations in rocks.Standard errors and coefficient of correlations of the predicted blast-induced vibration parameters are obtained with respect to the observed field data.The proposed empirical model for PPV has also been compared with the empirical models available for blast vibrations predictions given by other researchers and found to be in good agreement with specific cases.Ranjan Kumar Deepankar Choudhury Kapilesh Bhargava 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,3:11

4Life style modification improves insulin resistance and liver histology in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘AIM: To study the effect of regular aerobic exercise on insulin resistance, serum aminotransferase and liver histology in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. METHODS: Sixty (mean age 40.0 ± 8.5 years, 75% male) NAFLD patients were included in the study. After baseline anthropometric measurement i.e., body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC); all patients were advised regular aerobic exercise for 30 min/d, for at least 5 d/wk and trained to achieve around 70% of his maximal heart rate. In addition, moderately energy restricted diet was advised to patients with high BMI (> 25 kg/m 2 ). Monthly follow up was done by measuring BMI, WC, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Insulin resistance was calculated using homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) model, at baseline and after 6mo. Insulin resistance was arbitrarily considered altered when it was ≥ 2. Liver biopsy was done in a section of patients at baseline and after 6 mo. RESULTS: Seventy percent (42/60) patients were overweight or obese; 95% (57/60) had central obesity (WC > 90 cm in men, > 80 cm in women). In the 45 exercise compliant patients insulin resistance decreased from 6.4 ± 6.1 to 1.3 ± 1.0, BMI from 26.7 ± 3.3 kg/m 2 to 25.0 ± 3.3 kg/m 2 , WC from 95.7 ± 8.9 cm to 90.8 ± 7.3 cm and ALT from 84.8 ± 43.5 U/L to 41.3 ± 18.2 U/L (P < 0.01). In 15 exercise noncompliant patient's insulin resistance, BMI, WC and ALT did not show significant change at 6 mo follow up. Six of 8 patients in compliant group on repeat liver biopsy showed significant change in steatosis and necroinflammation. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis scores improved form 5.3 ± 1.5 to 3.35 ± 1.5. The decline in insulin resistance correlated with decline in ALT (P = 0.01, r s = 0.90) and liver histology (P = 0.03, r s = 0.73). 7In-Situ Differentiation of Acidic and Non-Acidic Tundra via Portable X-ray Fluorescence (PXRF) Spectrometry显示文摘Frozen soils or those with permafrost cover large areas of the earth's surface and support unique vegetative ecosystems. Plants growing in such harsh conditions have adapted to small niches, which allow them to survive. In northern Alaska, USA, both moist acidic and non-acidic tundra occur, yet determination of frozen soil p Hs currently requires thawing of the soil so that electrometric pH methods can be utilized. Contrariwise, a portable X-ray fluorescence(PXRF) spectrometer was used in this study to assess elemental abundances and relate those characteristics to soil pH through predictive multiple linear regressions. Two operational modes, Soil Mode and Geochem Mode, were utilized to scan frozen soils in-situ and under laboratory conditions, respectively, after soil samples were dried and ground. Results showed that lab scanning produced optimal results with adjusted coefficient of determination(R^2) of 0.88 and 0.33 and root mean squared errors(RMSEs) of 0.87 and 0.34 between elemental data and lab-determined pH for Soil Mode and Geochem Mode, respectively. Even though the presence of ice attenuated fluoresced radiation under field conditions, adjusted R^2 and RMSEs between the datasets still provided reasonable model generalization(e.g., 0.73 and 0.49 for field Geochem Mode). Principal component analysis qualitatively separated multiple sampling sites based on elemental data provided by PXRF, reflecting differences in the chemical composition of the soils studied. Summarily, PXRF can be used for in-situ determination of soil pH in arctic environments without the need for sample modification and thawing. Furthermore, use of PXRF for determination of soil pH may provide higher sample throughput than traditional eletrometric-based methods, while generating elemental data useful for the prediction of multiple soil parameters.Somsubhra CHAKRABORTY David C. 10Microbial mat-related structures shared by both siliciclastic and carbonate formations显示文摘Microbiota has always been the dominant life form,records of which are preserved in delicate forms within siliciclastic rocks.More pronounced record in the form of stromatolites possibly obscured the fact that many of the same delicate structures may be recognizable within carbonate rocks too.The Neoproterozoic Bhander Limestone in central India bears many such structures that are quintessentially similar to microbial mat-related structures reported from the Paleoproterozoic Chorhat Sandstone preserved within the same,Vindhyan Basin.Extensive microscopic,ultramicroscopic,and geochemical studies address the apprehension that such bedding plane structures in carbonate rocks could be merely weathering products.Trapping,binding and stabilitization of sediment by microbial mats are all evident.Preferred pyritization along the inferred,predefined microbial mats confirmed on the basis of EPMA(Electron Probe Microanalysis) results,and the enhanced carbon content along these mats layers and within suspected mat chips associated with them,are revealing.Raman spectroscopy,indeed,evinces enhanced kerogen content within both mats and mat chips.Interestingly,these microbial mat layers are recognized selectively within the lower of the two tiers of the Bhander Limestone.The lagoonal carbonate of the lower tier of the Bhander Limestone is muddy and contains a substantial proportion of silt-sized quartz grains that possibly impeded stromatolite growth.Stromatolites abound in the wave agitated upper tier of the Bhander Limestone which is dominated by oosparite.This paper provides evidence that the delicate microbial mat-related structures reported so far only from siliciclastic rocks can also be recognized within carbonate formations,and hopes to stimulate the search for additional such features,more preferably within carbonates originated in shallow and quiet water.Subir Sarkar Adrita Choudhuri Sunipa Mandal Patrick G. 11Effect of pioglitazone on nerve conduction velocity of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel in type 2 diabetes patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the impact of pioglitazone pharmacotherapy in median nerve electrophysiology in the carpal tunnel among type 2 diabetes patients.METHODS The study was executed in patients with type 2 diabetes, treated with oral drugs, categorized under pioglitazone or non-pioglitazone group(14 in each group), and who received electrophysiological evaluation by nerve conduction velocity at baseline and 3 mo.RESULTS At 3 mo, pioglitazone-category had inferior amplitude in sensory median nerve [8.5 interquartile range(IQR) = 6.5 to 11.5) vs non-pioglitazone 14.5(IQR 10.5 to 18.75)](P = 0.002). Non-pioglitazone category displayed amelioration in amplitude in the sensory median nerve [baseline 13(IQR = 9 to 16.25) vs 3 mo 8.5(IQR = 6.5 to 11.5)](P = 0.01) and amplitude in motor median nerve [baseline 9(IQR = 4.75 to 11) vs 3 mo 6.75(IQR = 4.75 to 10.25)](P = 0.049); and deterioration of terminal latency of in motor ulnar nerve [baseline 2.07(IQR = 1.92 to 2.25) vs 3 mo 2.16(IQR = 1.97 to 2.325)](P = 0.043). There was amelioration of terminal latency in sensory ulnar nerve [baseline 2.45(IQR = 2.315 to 2.88) vs 3 mo 2.37(IQR = 2.275 to 2.445) for pioglitazone group(P = 0.038).CONCLUSION Treatment with pioglitazone accentuates probability of compressive neuropathy. In spite of comparable glycemic control over 3 mo, patients treated with pioglitazone showed superior electrophysiological parameters for the ulnar nerve. 12Starspots, stellar cycles and stellar flares: Lessons from solar dynamo models显示文摘In this review, we discuss whether the present solar dynamo models can be extrapolated to explain various aspects of stellar activity. We begin with a summary of the following kinds of data for solar-like stars:(i) data pertaining to stellar cycles from Ca H/K emission over many years;(ii) X-ray data indicating hot coronal activity;(iii) starspot data(especially about giant polar spots); and(iv) data pertaining to stellar superflares. Then we describe the current status of solar dynamo modelling—giving an introduction to the flux transport dynamo model, the currently favoured model for the solar cycle. While an extrapolation of this model to solar-like stars can explain some aspects of observational data, some other aspects of the data still remain to be theoretically explained. 13Muskingum equation based downstream sediment flow simulation models for a river system显示文摘Applications of sediment transport and water flow characteristics based sediment transport simulation models for a river system are presented in this study.An existing water-sediment model and a new sediment-water model are used to formulate the simulation models representing water and sediment movement in a river system.The sediment-water model parameters account for water flow characteristics embodying sediment transport properties of a section.The models are revised formulations of the multiple water inflows model describing water movement through a river system as given by the Muskingum principle.The models are applied to a river system in Mississippi River basin to estimate downstream sediment concentration,sediment discharge,and water discharge.River system and the river section parameters are estimated using a revised and the original multiple water inflows models by applying the genetic algorithm.The models estimate downstream sediment transport rates on the basis of upstream sediment/water flow rates to a system.Model performance is evaluated by using standard statistical criteria;downstream water discharge resulting from the original multiple water inflows model using the estimated river system parameters indicate that the revised models satisfactorily describe water movement through a river system.Results obtained in the study demonstrate the applicability of the sediment transport and water flow characteristics-based simulation models in predicting downstream sediment transport and water flow rates in a river system.Briti Sundar Sil Parthasarathi Choudhury 2016International Journal of Sediment Research2016,31,2:2
14Studies of grand minima in sunspot cycles by using a flux transport solar dynamo model显示文摘We propose that grand minima in solar activity are caused by simultaneous fluctuations in the meridional circulation and the Babcock–Leighton mechanism for the poloidal field generation in the flux transport dynamo model.We present the following results:(a)fluctuations in the meridional circulation are more effective in producing grand minima;(b)both sudden and gradual initiations of grand minima are possible;(c)distributions of durations and waiting times between grand minima seem to be exponential;(d)the coherence time of the meridional circulation has an effect on the number and the average duration of grand minima,with a coherence time of about 30 yr being consistent with observational data.We also study the occurrence of grand maxima and find that the distributions of durations and waiting times between grand maxima are also exponential,like the grand minima.Finally we address the question of whether the Babcock–Leighton mechanism can be operative during grand minima when there are no sunspots.We show that anα-effect restricted to the upper portions of the convection zone can pull the dynamo out of the grand minima and can match various observational requirements if the amplitude of thisα-effect is suitably fine-tuned.Bidya Binay Karak Arnab Rai Choudhuri 2013Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics2013,13,11:2

16Rituximab or plasmapheresis for prevention of recurrent focal segmental glomerulosclerosis after kidney transplantation:A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis(FSGS)is one of the most common glomerular diseases leading to renal failure.FSGS has a high risk of recurrence after kidney transplantation.Prevention of recurrent FSGS using rituximab and/or plasmapheresis has been evaluated in multiple small studies with conflicting results.AIM To assess the risk of recurrence of FSGS after transplantation using prophylactic rituximab with or without plasmapheresis,and plasmapheresis alone compared to the standard treatment group without preventive therapy.METHODS This meta-analysis and systematic review were performed by first conducting a literature search of the MEDLINE,EMBASE,and Cochrane databases,from inception through March 2021;search terms included‘FSGS,’’steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome’,‘rituximab,’and‘plasmapheresis,’.We identified studies that assessed the risk of post-transplant FSGS after use of rituximab with or without plasmapheresis,or plasmapheresis alone.Inclusion criteria were:Original,published,randomized controlled trials or cohort studies(either prospective or retrospective),case-control,or cross-sectional studies;inclusion of odds ratio,relative risk,and standardized incidence ratio with 95%confidence intervals(CI),or sufficient raw data to calculate these ratios;and subjects without interventions(controls)being used as comparators in cohort and cross-sectional studies.Effect estimates from individual studies were extracted and combined using a random effects model.RESULTS Eleven studies,with a total of 399 kidney transplant recipients with FSGS,evaluated the use of rituximab with or without plasmapheresis;thirteen studies,with a total of 571 kidney transplant recipients with FSGS,evaluated plasmapheresis alone.Post-transplant FSGS recurred relatively early.There was no significant difference in recurrence between the group that received rituximab(with or without plasmapheresis)and the standard treatment group,with a pooled risk ratio of 0.82(95%CI:0.47-1.45,I2=65%).Similarly,plasmapheresis alone was not associated with any significant difference in FSGS recurrence when compared with no plasmapheresis;the pooled risk ratio was 0.85(95%CI:0.60-1.21,I2=23%).Subgroup analyses in the pediatric and adult groups did not yield a significant difference in recurrence risk.We also reviewed and analyzed posttransplant outcomes including timing of recurrence and graft survival.CONCLUSION Overall,the use of rituximab with or without plasmapheresis,or plasmapheresis alone,is not associated with a lower risk of FSGS recurrence after kidney transplantation.Future studies are required to assess the effectiveness of rituximab with or without plasmapheresis among specific patient subgroups with high-risk for FSGS recurrence.Boonphiphop Boonpheng Panupong Hansrivijit Charat Thongprayoon Shennen A Mao Pradeep K Vaitla Tarun Bathini Avishek Choudhury Wisit Kaewput Michael A Mao Wisit Cheungpasitporn 2021World Journal of Transplantation2021,11,7:2
17The hemispheric asymmetry of solar activity during the last century and the solar dynamo显示文摘We believe the Babcock-Leighton process of poloidal field generation to be the main source of irregularity in the solar cycle.The random nature of this process may make the poloidal field in one hemisphere stronger than that in the other hemisphere at the end of a cycle.We expect this to induce an asymmetry in the next sunspot cycle.We look for evidence of this in the observational data and then model it theoretically with our dynamo code.Since actual polar field measurements exist only from the 1970s,we use the polar faculae number data recorded by Sheeley(1991,2008) as a proxy of the polar field and estimate the hemispheric asymmetry of the polar field in different solar minima during the major part of the twentieth century.This asymmetry is found to have a reasonable correlation with the asymmetry of the next cycle.We then run our dynamo code by feeding information about this asymmetry at the successive minima and compare the results with observational data.We find that the theoretically computed asymmetries of different cycles compare favorably with the observational data,with the correlation co-efficient being 0.73.Due to the coupling between the two hemispheres,any hemispheric asymmetry tends to get attenuated with time.The hemispheric asymmetry of a cycle ei-ther from observational data or from theoretical calculations statistically tends to be less than the asymmetry in the polar field(as inferred from the faculae data) in the preceding minimum.This reduction factor turns out to be 0.43 and 0.51 respectively in observational data and theoretical simulations.Ashish Goel Arnab Rai Choudhuri 2009Chinese Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics2009,9,1:2

19Yeast knockout library allows for efficient testing of genomic mutations for cell-free protein synthesis显示文摘Cell-free protein synthesis(CFPS)systems from crude lysates have benefitted from modifications to their enzyme composition.For example,functionally deleting enzymes in the source strain that are deleterious to CFPS can improve protein synthesis yields.However,making such modifications can take substantial time.As a proof-of-concept to accelerate prototyping capabilities,we assessed the feasibility of using the yeast knockout collection to identify negative effectors in a Saccharomyces cerevisiae CFPS platform.We analyzed extracts made from six deletion strains that targeted the single deletion of potentially negative effectors(e.g.,nucleases).We found a statistically significant increase in luciferase yields upon loss of function of GCN3,PEP4,PPT1,NGL3,and XRN1 with a maximum increase of over 6-fold as compared to the wild type.Our work has implications for yeast CFPS and for rapidly prototyping strains to enable cell-free synthetic biology applications.Jennifer A.Schoborg Lauren G.Clark Alaksh Choudhury C.Eric Hodgman Michael C.Jewett 2016Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2016,1,1:2
20Soil texture classification using multi class support vector machine显示文摘The objective of this study is to process the soil images to generate a digital soil classification system for rural farmers at low cost.Soil texture is the main factor to be considered before doing cultivation.It affects the crop selection and regulates the water transmission property.The conventional hydrometer method determines the percentage of sand,silt,and clay present in a soil sample.This method is very cost and time-consuming process.In this approach,we collect 50 soil samples from the different region of west Guwahati,Assam,India.The samples are photographed under a constant light condition using an Android mobile of 13 MP cameras.The fraction of sand,silt,and clay of the soil samples are determined using the hydrometer test.The result of the hydrometer test is processed with the United State Department of Agriculture soil classification triangle for the final soil classification.Soil images are processed through the different stages like pre-processing of soil images for image enhancement,extracting the region of interest for segmentation and the texture analysis for feature vector.The feature vector is calculated from the Hue,Saturation,and Value(HSV)histogram,color moments,color auto Correlogram,Gabor wavelets,and discrete wavelet transform.Finally,Support Vector Machine classifier is used to classify the soil images using linear kernel.The proposed method gives an average of 91.37%accuracy for all the soil samples and the result is nearly the same with the United State Department of Agriculture soil classification.Utpal Barman Ridip Dev Choudhury 2020Information Processing in Agriculture2020,7,2:2
