| 1 | Assessment of the anterior chamber parameters after laser iridotomy in primary angle close suspect using Pentacam and gonioscopy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the changes in the anterior segment parameters of the subjects with primary angle closure suspect(PACS) before and after laser iridotomy(LI) using the Pentacam and gonioscopy. METHODS:Forty-eight eyes of 48 PACS were included.Anterior chamber angle(ACA),central anterior chamber depth(ACD),anterior chamber volume(ACV) and central corneal thickness(CCT) were recorded from the Pentacam before and one month after LI.ACA was graded according to Shaffer classification using Goldmann gonioscopy.RESULTS:ACA increased significantly from 25.59±4.41 to 26.46±4.33 degrees(P=0.009) and ACV changed from 85.97±16.07mm3to 99.25±15.83mm3(P=0.000).The changes in ACD,CCT and intraocular pressure were non-significant(P>0.05).Gonioscopy showed significant widening of the Shaffer angle in 4 quadrants(P<0.001).CONCLUSION:Pentacam can serve as the objective instrument in assessing the efficacy of LI. | Alireza Esmaeili Behzad Barazandeh Sina Ahmadi Alireza Haghi Seyed Mahdi Ahmadi Hosseini Fereshteh Abolbashari | 2013 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,5: | 8 |
| 2 | Association of a genetic variant in AKT1 gene with features of the metabolic syndrome显示文摘Metabolic syndrome(MetS)is a clustering of metabolic abnormalities that is associated with increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.There is growing body of data showing the associations of genetic variants of the genes involved in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway with diabetes and obesity.We aimed to investigate the association between MetS and its components with the genetic polymorphism in AKT1,rs1130233(T>C).Total of 618 participants,recruited from Mashhad stroke and heart atherosclerosis disorder cohort(MASHAD study).Patients with MetS were defined by using international diabetes federation(IDF)criteria(n Z 326)and those without MetS(n Z 261)were recruited.Anthropometric and biochemical parameters were measured in all subjects.Genetic analysis for the rs1130233 polymorphism was performed,using the ABI-StepOne instruments with SDS version-2.0 software.Individuals with MetS had a significantly higher levels of BMI,waistcircumference,total cholesterol,triglyceride,high sensitivity-c reactive protein(hs-CRP)and blood-pressure,and lower concentrations of high density lipoprotein(HDL-C),compared to non-MetS individuals(P<0.05).The association between the rs1130233 and MetS was not significant.Subjects with a CC or CT genotypes had a significantly higher serum hs-CRP-level(OR:1.5;95%CI(1.05e2.1),P Z 0.02).Additionally,subjects who carried the TC genotype had a higher BMI compared to the CC genotype(p value Z 0.045).Our findings demonstrated that AKT1,rs1130233(T>C)polymorphism was associated with major components of MetS such as hs-CRP,and BMI,indicating further investigation in a multi-center setting to explore its value as an emerging biomarker of risk stratification marker. | Fateme Sadat Eshaghi Hamideh Ghazizadeh Sakine Kazami-Nooreini Ameneh Timar Habibollah Esmaeily Mehrane Mehramiz Amir Avan Majid Ghayour-Mobarhan | 2019 | Genes & Diseases2019,6,3: | 6 |

Dec orin, a small leucine-rich chondroitin-dermatan sulphate proteoglycan expressed by neurons and astrocytes in the central nervous system, is both anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory and attenuates the formation and partial dissolution of established and chronic scars. | 5 | A two-dimensional limit equilibrium computer code for analysis of complex toppling slope failures显示文摘Evaluation of blocky or layered rock slopes against toppling failures has remained of great concern for engineers in various rock mechanics projects.Several step-by-step analytical solutions have been developed for analyzing these types of slope failures.However,manual application of these analytical solutions for real case studies can be time-consuming,complicated,and in certain cases even impossible.This study will first examine existing methods for toppling failure analyses that are reviewed,modified and generalized to consider the effects of a wide range of external and dead loads on slope stability.Next,based on the generalized presented formulae,a Windows form computer code is programmed using Visual C#for analysis of common types of toppling failures.Input parameters,including slope geometry,joint sets parameters,rock and soil properties,ground water level,dynamic loads,support anchor loads as well as magnitudes and forms of external forces,are first loaded into the code.The input data are then saved and used to graphically draw the slope model.This is followed by automatic identification of the toppling failure mode and a deterministic analysis of the slope stability against this failure mode.The results are presented using a graphical approach.The developed code allows probabilistic introduction of the input parameters via probability distribution functions(PDFs)and thus a probabilistic analysis of the toppling failure modes using Monte-Carlo simulation technique.This allows calculation of the probability of slope failure.Finally,several published case studies and typical examples are analyzed with the developed code.The outcomes are compared with those of the main references to assess the performance and robustness of the developed computer code.The comparisons demonstrate good agreement between the results. | Akbar Ardestani Mehdi Amini Kamran Esmaeili | 2021 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,1: | 4 |
| 6 | Traditional and modern aspects of hemorrhoid treatment in Iran:a review显示文摘Hemorrhoidal disease is a prevalent anorectal condition which is generally not managed well with current pharmacologic interventions. However, in Iranian traditional medicine(ITM) there are numerous plants with hemorrhoid-healing properties. The present research assembled plants with hemorrhoidhealing properties in ITM; their related pharmacological effects, phytochemical constituents and mechanisms of action in the modern medicine were also gathered. For this purpose, leading ITM textbooks were searched for plants with hemorrhoid-healing effects. Further, in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies on the most cited species were considered using scientific databases. Studying ITM textbooks revealed37 medicinal plants with hemorrhoid-healing effects. Among the mentioned herbal medicines, six species, including Allium ampeloprasum, Phyllanthus emblica, Aloe vera, Terminalia chebula, Vitis vinifera and Commiphora mukul, had the largest number of related pharmacological effects documented in scientific databases. | 7 | Effect of Low-Pressure Nitrogen DC Plasma Treatment on the Surface Properties of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene, Poly (Methyl Methacrylate) and Polyvinyl Chloride Films显示文摘In this study, commercial biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films were treated with nitrogen plasma over different exposure times in a Pyrex tube surrounded by a DC variable magnetic field. The chemical changes that appeared on the surface of the samples were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared (ATR- FTIR) spectroscopy after treatment for 2 min, 4 min and 6 min in a nitrogen plasma chamber. Effects of the plasma treatment on the surface topographies and contact angles of the untreated and plasma treated films were also analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and a contact angle measuring system. The results show that the plasma treated films become more hydrophilic with an enhanced wettability due to the formation of some new polar groups on the surface of the treated films. Moreover, at higher exposure times, the total surface energy in all treated films increased while a reduction in contact angle occurred.
