1On-board measurement of particle numbers and their size distribution from a light-duty diesel vehicle:Influences of VSP and altitude显示文摘In this study,the particle size-resolved distribution from a China-3 certificated light-duty diesel vehicle was measured by using a portable emission measurement system(PEMS).In order to examine the influences of vehicle specific power(VSP) and high-altitude operation,measurements were conducted at 8 constant speeds,which ranged from 10 to 80 km/hr at10 km/hr intervals,and two different high altitudes,namely 2200 and 3200 m.The results demonstrated that the numbers of particles in all size ranges decreased significantly as VSP increased when the test vehicle was running at lower speeds(< 20 km/hr),while at a moderate speed(between 30 and 60 km/hr),the particle number was statistically insensitive to increase VSP.Under high-speed cruising conditions,the numbers of ultrafine particles and PM2.5were insensitive to changes in VSP,but the numbers of nanoparticles and PM10 surged considerably.An increase in the operational altitude of the test vehicle resulted in increased particle number emissions at low and high driving speeds;however,particle numbers obtained at moderate speeds decreased as altitude rose.When the test vehicle was running at moderate speeds,particle numbers measured at the two altitudes were very close,except for comparatively higher number concentrations of nanoparticles measured at 2200 m.Jia Liu Yunshan Ge Xin Wang Lijun Hao Jianwei Tan Zihang Peng Chuanzhen Zhang Huiming Gong Ying Huang 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,7:12
2New possible silver lining for pancreatic cancer therapy:Hydrogen sulfide and its donors显示文摘As one of the most lethal diseases,pancreatic cancer shows a dismal overall prognosis and high resistance to most treatment modalities.Furthermore,pancreatic cancer escapes early detection during the curable period because early symptoms rarely emerge and specific markers for this disease have not been found.Although combinations of new drugs,multimodal therapies,and adjuvants prolong survival,most patients still relapse after surgery and eventually die.Consequently,the search for more effective treatments for pancreatic cancer is highly relevant and justified.As a newly re-discovered mediator of gasotransmission,hydrogen sulfide(H2S)undertakes essential functions,encompassing various signaling complexes that occupy key processes in human biology.Accumulating evidence indicates that H2S exhibits bimodal modulation of cancer development.Thus,endogenous or low levels of exogenous H2S are thought to promote cancer,whereas high doses of exogenous H2S suppress tumor proliferation.Similarly,inhibition of endogenous H2S production also suppresses tumor proliferation.Accordingly,H2S biosynthesis inhibitors and H2S supplementation(H2S donors)are two distinct strategies for the treatment of cancer.Unfortunately,modulation of endogenous H2S on pancreatic cancer has not been studied so far.However,H2S donors and their derivatives have been extensively studied as potential therapeutic agents for pancreatic cancer therapy by inhibiting cell proliferation,inducing apoptosis,arresting cell cycle,and suppressing invasion and migration through exploiting multiple signaling pathways.As far as we know,there is no review of the effects of H2S donors on pancreatic cancer.Based on these concerns,the therapeutic effects of some H2S donors and NO-H2S dual donors on pancreatic cancer were summarized in this paper.Exogenous H2S donors may be promising compounds for pancreatic cancer treatment.Xu Hua Yan Xiao Jianan Sun Bao Ji Shanshan Luo Bo Wu Chao Zheng Peng Wang Fanxing Xu Keguang Cheng Huiming Hua Dahong Li 2021Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2021,11,5:4
3PINK1 kinase dysfunction triggers neurodegeneration in the primate brain without impacting mitochondrial homeostasis显示文摘In vitro studies have established the prevalent theory that the mitochondrial kinase PINK1 protects neurodegeneration by removing damaged mitochondria in Parkinson's disease(PD).However,difficulty in detecting endogenous PINK1 protein in rodent brains and cell lines has prevented the rigorous investigation of the in vivo role of PINK1.Here we report that PINK1 kinase form is selectively expressed in the human and monkey brains.CRISPR/Cas9-mediated deficiency of PINK1 causes similar neurodegeneration in the brains of fetal and adult monkeys as well as cultured monkey neurons without affecting mitochondrial protein expression and morphology.Importantly,PINK1 mutations in the primate brain and human cells reduce protein phosphorylation that is important for neuronal function and survival.Our findings suggest that PINK1 kinase activity rather than its mitochondrial function is essential for the neuronal survival in the primate brains and that its kinase dysfunction could be involved in the pathogenesis of PD.Weili Yang Xiangyu Guo Zhuchi Tu Xiusheng Chen Rui Han Yanting Liu Sen Yan Qi Wang Zhifu Wang Xianxian Zhao Yunpeng Zhang Xin Xiong Huiming Yang Peng Yin Huida Wan Xingxing Chen Jifeng Guo Xiao-Xin Yan Lujian Liao Shihua Li Xiao-Jiang Li 2022Protein & Cell2022,13,1:3
4Scientific challenges of research on natural hazards and disaster risk显示文摘As a discipline,the science of natural hazards and disaster risk aims to explain the spatial-temporal pattern,process and mechanism,emergency response and risk mitigation of natural hazards,which requires a multidisci-plinary and interdisciplinary approach.With the support of Natural Science Finance of China(NSFC)and Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS),in-depth research and systematic analysis on natural hazards and disaster risk were conducted.In this paper,the state of the art in research on natural hazards is summarized from seven aspects:formation process,mechanism and dynamic of natural hazards,disaster risk assessment,forecast,monitoring and early warning,disaster mitigation,emergency treatment and rescue,risk management and post-disaster re-construction.The trends within the natural hazards and disaster risk as a discipline were identified,along with existing shortcomings and significant gaps that need to be addressed.This paper highlighted:1)the scientific challenges including the frontier scientific issues and technological gaps on natural hazards and disaster risk dis-cipline from 2025 to 2035 in China,and 2)the proposal to develop a systemic and holistic natural hazards and disaster risk discipline.Peng Cui Jianbing Peng Peijun Shi Huiming Tang Chaojun Ouyang Qiang Zou Lianyou Liu Changdong Li Yu Lei 2021Geography and Sustainability2021,2,3:3

11Anisotropic and asymmetric deformation mechanisms of nanolaminated graphene/Cu composites显示文摘We conducted molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of tension and compression along the <112> direction and MD simulations of compression along the <110> and <111> directions on nanolaminated graphene/Cu (NGCu) composites to investigate the effects of the incorporated graphene and the deformation mechanisms related to the loading direction. The deformation behavior and the defect structures were found to be strongly dependent on the loading conditions. An asymmetric tension-compression deformation behavior was thus found in graphene/Cu nanolaminates under the <112> loading, which was dominated by stacking faults and deformation twins formed by dislocation slide under tension and compression, respectively. High density and ordered nanotwins were formed at the graphene/Cu interfaces. Two different formation mechanisms of the twins were found under the <112> compression, and the nucleated twins were easy to be thickened with the assistance of the graphene wrinkles. Multiple twins were formed under the <110> compression by the dislocation cross-slip. 13Triple oxygen isotope constraints on the origin of ocean island basalts显示文摘Understanding the origin of ocean island basalts(OIB) has important bearings on Earth's deep mantle.Although it is widely accepted that subducted oceanic crust, as a consequence of plate tectonics, contributes material to OIB's formation, its exact fraction in OIB's mantle source remains ambiguous largely due to uncertainties associated with existing geochemical proxies. Here we show, through theoretical calculation, that unlike many known proxies, triple oxygen isotope compositions(i.e.D^(17 )O) in olivine samples are not affected by crystallization and partial melting. This unique feature, therefore, allows olivine D^(17 )O values to identify subducted oceanic crusts in OIB's mantle source. Furthermore, the fractions of subducted ocean sediments and hydrothermally altered oceanic crust in OIB's mantle source can be quantified using their characteristic D^(17 )O values. 17Bacterial diacetyl suppresses abiotic stress-induced senescence in Arabidopsis显示文摘Premature plant senescence induced by abiotic stresses is a major cause of agricultural losses worldwide. Tools for suppressing stress-induced plant senescence are limited. Here, we report that diacetyl, a natural compound emitted by the plantbeneficial bacterium Bacillus amyloliquefaciens,suppresses abscisic acid-mediated foliar senescence in Arabidopsis thaliana under various abiotic stress conditions. 19A spatial frequency/spectral indicator-driven model for estimating cultivated land quality using the gradient boosting decision tree and genetic algorithm-back propagation neural network显示文摘Cultivated land quality(CLQ)is related to national food security.Rapid and high-precision monitoring of CLQ is crucial for the sustainable development of agriculture.However,current satellite image-based evaluation methods that only consider the crop's spatial spectrum characteristics in the key growth stages cannot accurately estimate CLQ.This study proposes a new method based on time-series spectral data of crop growth to improve the accuracy of CLQ estimation.This study was conducted in the Conghua District of Guangzhou,Guangdong Province,China.The results showed that seven spectral indicators were determined as the optimal indicators based on the gradient boosting decision tree(GBDT)and variance inflation factor(VIF).And the genetic algorithm-back propagation neural network(GA-BPNN)model provided more accurate CLQ estimates than the partial least squares regression(PLSR)model,indicating a nonlinear relationship between CLQ and the indicators.In addition,the GA-BPNN model with a normalized root mean square error(NRMSE)of 9.91%demonstrates the excellent potential for mapping CLQ over large areas.The model based on the seven optimal indicators of crop phenology provided higher accuracy than the GA-BPNN model based on the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)indicators in the spatial domain,significantly decreasing the NRMSE of the CLQ estimates by 3.17%.This further implied that the spectral indicators in the spatial frequency domain can improve the accuracy of estimating CLQ.Ziqing Xia Yiping Peng Chenjie Lin Ya Wen Huiming Liu Zhenhua Liu 2022International Soil and Water Conservation Research2022,10,4:0
