| 8 | Temporal and spatial differentiation in microhabitat use: Implications for reproductive isolation and ecological niche specification显示文摘Niche differentiation enables ecologically similar species to coexist by lessening competition over food and/or shelters and may be critical for reproductive isolation between closely related species in close proximity.Because no extra traits need to evolve,spatial and temporal differentiation may readily take place to complement other isolating mechanisms.Two closely related treefrog species occur together in Korea:the endangered Hyla suweonensis and the widespread Hyla japonica.Advertisement calls are differentiated,but it is unclear whether call difference is sufficient for reproductive isolation.We tracked individuals of both species to study fine-scale differentiation in microhabitat use in the diel cycle of the breeding season using a harmonic direction finder.tracking male movement patterns of both species revealed spatial and temporal differentiation in microhabitat use for calling and resting during the breeding season.Males of both H.suweonensis and H.japonica occurred in all 5 microhabitats identified in this study:rice paddy,ground,buried,grass and bush.Both treefrog species showed general similarities in calling from rice paddies and resting in grass and bush.However,H.suweonensis moved into rice paddies and produced advertisement calls 3 h earlier than H.japonica.These differences likely minimize contact between the species and provide an additional isolating mechanism.In addition,the activity of H.suweonensis may be contributing to the decline of this species,as resting in grass would increase dangers from predatory birds and habitat disturbance. | Amaël BORZÉE Jun Young KIM Marina Andrade Martins DA CUNHA Donggeun Lee Eunchong SIN Sunmin OH Yoonjung YI Yikweon JANG | 2016 | Integrative Zoology2016,11,5: | 1 |

| 10 | Clinical features and literature review related to the material differences in thread rhinoplasty:Two case reports显示文摘BACKGROUND Thread rhinoplasty can trigger a reaction to thread material,which is a foreign body.We compared clinical features induced by absorbable and non-absorbable threads following thread rhinoplasty.CASE SUMMARY Two patients who underwent different thread materials showed different clinical courses and different Hounsfield unit(HU)values in computed tomography.Patients with absorbable thread showed high HU values similar to a metallic material,and the HU value of inflammation was similar to vascular tissues with a lot of water(250).In the intraoperative field,absorbable thread materials and micro-abscesses were observed.In contrast,in the case of a non-absorbable thread,an object presumed to be thread was seen on the computed tomography(CT),and the HU value of inflammatory tissues was less than 100.In both patients,post-operative HU decreased to less than 100 and the clinical course improved.In both cases,histopathologic findings revealed foreign body granuloma associated with inflammation.CONCLUSION Absorbable threads were more aggressive and are more easily detected on CT. | Da Woon Lee Heongrae Ryu Si-Hyong Jang Jun Hyuk Kim | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,31: | 0 |
| 11 | Interaction of cellular-localized signature modules in response to prostate cancer显示文摘Rapid progress in high-throughput biotechnologies (e.g. microarrays) and exponential accumulation of gene functional knowledge makes it promising for systematic understanding of complex human diseases at the functional modules level. Current modular categorizations can be defined and selected more specifically and precisely in terms of both biological processes and cellular locations, aiming at uncovering the modular molecular networks highly relevant to cancers. Based on Gene Ontology, we identifed the functional modules enriched with differentially expressed genes and characterized by biological processes and specific cellular locations. Then, according to the ranking of the disease discriminating abilities of the pre-selected functional modules, we further defined and filtered signature modules which have higher relevance to the cancer under study. | 12 | Glucocorticoid pulse therapy in an elderly patient with post-COVID-19 organizing pneumonia:A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Pulmonary fibrosis often occurs as a sequel of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19);however,in some cases,it can rapidly progress,similar to the acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease.Glucocorticoids are the standard treatment for severe COVID-19 pneumonia requiring oxygen supply;however,the post-COVID-19 efficacy of high-dose steroid therapy remains unclear.Here,we presented a case of an 81-year-old man who developed acute respiratory failure after COVID-19 and was treated with glucocorticoid pulse therapy.CASE SUMMARY An 81-year-old man with no respiratory symptoms was admitted due to a diabetic foot.He had been previously treated for COVID-19 pneumonia six weeks prior.However,upon admission,he suddenly complained of dyspnea and required a high-flow oxygen supply.Initial simple chest radiography and computed tomography(CT)revealed diffuse ground-glass opacities and consolidation in both lungs.However,repeated sputum tests did not identify any infectious pathogens,and initial broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy did not result in any clinical improvement with the patient having an increasing oxygen demand.The patient was diagnosed with post-COVID-19 organizing pneumonia.Thus,we initiated glucocorticoid pulse therapy of 500 mg for three days followed by a tapered dose on hospital day(HD)9.After three days of pulse treatment,the patient's oxygen demand decreased.The patient was subsequently discharged on HD 41,and chest radiography and CT scans have almost normalized nine months after discharge.CONCLUSION Glucocorticoid pulse therapy may be considered when the usual glucocorticoid dose is ineffective for patients with COVID-19 sequelae. | Shinhee Park Youngeun Jang So-My Koo Bo Da Nam Hee-Young Yoon | 2023 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2023,11,17: | 0 |
