| 2 | Factors predicting survival in patients with proximal gastric carcinoma involving the esophagus显示文摘AIM:To investigate the clinicopathologic features which predict surgical overall survival in patients with proximal gastric carcinoma involving the esophagus (PGCE).METHODS:Electronic pathology database established in the Department of Pathology of the Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital was searched for consecutive resection cases of proximal gastric carcinoma over the period from May 2004 through July 2009.Each retrieved pathology report was reviewed and the cases with tumors crossing the gastroesophageal junction line were selected as PGCE.Each tumor was re-staged,following the guidelines on esophageal adenocarcinoma,according to the 7th edition of the American Joint Commission on Cancer Staging Manual.All histology slides were studied along with the pathology report for a retrospective analysis of 13 clinicopathologic features,i.e.,age,gender,Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori ) infection,surgical modality,Siewert type,tumor Bormann's type,size,differentiation,histology type,surgical margin,lymphovascular and perineural invasion,and pathologic stage in relation to survival after surgical resection.Prognostic factors for overall survival were assessed with uniand multi-variate analyses.RESULTS:Patients' mean age was 65 years (range:47-90 years).The male:female ratio was 3.3.The 1-,3and 5-year overall survival rates were 87%,61% and 32%,respectively.By univariate analysis,age,male gender,H.pylori ,tumor Bormann's type,size,histology type,surgical modality,positive surgical margin,lymphovascular invasion,and pT stage were not predictive for overall survival;in contrast,perineural invasion (P = 0.003),poor differentiation (P = 0.0003),> 15 total lymph nodes retrieved (P = 0.008),positive lymph nodes (P = 0.001),and distant metastasis (P = 0.005) predicted poor post-operative overall survival.Celiac axis nodal metastasis was associated with significantly worse overall survival (P = 0.007).By multivariate analysis,≥ 16 positive nodes (P = 0.018),lymph node ratio > 0.2 (P = 0.003),and overall pathologic stage (P = 0.002) were independent predictors for poor overall survival after resection.CONCLUSION:Patients with PGCE showed worse overall survival in elderly,high nodal burden and advanced pathologic stage.This cancer may be more accurately staged as gastric,than esophageal,cancer. | Yi-Fen Zhang Jiong Shi Hui-Ping Yu An-Ning Feng Xiang-Shan Fan Gregory Y Lauwers Hiroshi Mashimo Jason S Gold Gang Chen Qin Huang | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,27: | 12 |
| 3 | High performance columnar-like Fe2O3@carbon composite anode via yolk@shell structural design显示文摘Conversion-type reaction anode materials with high specific capacity are attractive candidates to improve lithium ion batteries(LIBs), yet the rapid capacity fading and poor rate capability caused by drastic volume change and low electronic conductivity greatly hinder their practical applications. To circumvent these issues, the successful design of yolk@shell Fe2 O3@C hybrid composed of a columnar-like Fe2O3 core within a hollow cavity completely surrounded by a thin, self-supported carbon(C) shell is presented as an anode for high-performance LIBs. This yolk@shell structure allows each Fe2O3 core to swell upon lithiation without deforming the carbon shell. This preserves the structural and electrical integrity against pulverization, as revealed by in situ transmission electron microscopy(TEM) measurement. Benefiting from these structural advantages, the resulting electrode exhibits a high reversible capacity(1013 m Ah g-1 after80 cycles at 0.2 A g-1), outstanding rate capability(710 m Ah g-1 at 8 A g-1) and superior cycling stability(800 m Ah g-1 after 300 cycles at 4 A g-1). | 5 | Safety, pharmacokinetics, and biomarkers of F-652, a recombinant human interleukin-22 dimer, in healthy subjects显示文摘F-652 is a recombinant fusion protein consisting of two human interleukin-22(IL-22)molecules linked to an immunoglobulin constant region(IgG 2-Fc).IL-22 plays critical roles in promoting tissue repair and suppressing bacterial infection.The safety,pharmacokinetics(PK),tolerability,and biomarkers of F-652 were evaluated following a single dose in healthy male volunteers in a randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled study.Following single-dose subcutaneous(SC)injection of F-652 at 2.0µg/kg into healthy subjects,six out of six subjects experienced delayed injection site reactions,which presented as erythematous and/or discoid eczematous lesions 10 to 17 days post-dosing.F-652 was then administered to the healthy subjects via an intravenous(IV)infusion at 2.0,10,30,and 45µg/kg.No severe adverse event(SAE)was observed during the study.Among the IV-dosed cohorts,eye and skin treatment emergent adverse events(TEAEs)were observed in the 30 and 45µg/kg cohorts.F-652 IV dosing resulted in linear increases in C max and AUC(0–t),and the T 1/2 ranged from 39.4 to 206h in the cohorts.An IV injection of F-652 induced dose-dependent increases in serum marker serum amyloid A,C-reactive protein,and FIB,and decreased serum triglycerides.The serum levels of 36 common pro-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines were not altered by the treatment of F-652 at 45μg/kg.In conclusion,IV administration of F-652 to healthy male volunteers is safe and well-tolerated and demonstrates favorable PK and pharmacodynamic properties.These results warrant further clinical development of F-652 to treat inflammatory diseases. | Kai-Yang Tang Jason Lickliter Zhi-Hua Huang Zong-Shu Xian Han-Yang Chen Cheng Huang Chong Xiao Yu-Peng Wang Ying Tan Lin-Feng Xu Yu-Liang Huang Xiao-Qiang Yan | 2019 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,5: | 5 |

| 8 | Murine hepatocellular carcinoma derived stem cells reveal epithelial-to-mesenchymal plasticity显示文摘AIM To establish a model to enrich and characterize stemlike cells from murine normal liver and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cell lines and to further investigate stem-like cell association with epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT).METHODS In this study,we utilized a stem cell conditioned serumfree medium to enrich stem-like cells from mouse HCC and normal liver cell lines,Hepa 1-6 and AML12,respectively.We isolated the 3-dimensional spheres and assessed their stemness characteristics by evaluating theRNA levels of stemness genes and a cell surface stem cell marker by quantitative reverse transcriptase-PCR(q RTPCR).Next,we examined the relationship between stem cells and EMT using q RT-PCR.RESULTS Three-dimensional spheres were enriched by culturing murine HCC and normal hepatocyte cell lines in stem cell conditioned serum-free medium supplemented with epidermal growth factor,basic fibroblast growth factor and heparin sulfate.The 3-dimensional spheres had enhanced stemness markers such as Klf4 and Bmi1 and hepatic cancer stem cell(CSC) marker Cd44 compared to parental cells grown as adherent cultures.We report that epithelial markers E-cadherin and ZO-1 were downregulated,while mesenchymal markers Vimentin and Fibronectin were upregulated in 3-dimensional spheres.The 3-dimensional spheres also exhibited changes in expression of Snai,Zeb and Twist family of EMT transcription factors.CONCLUSION Our novel method successfully enriched stem-like cells which possessed an EMT phenotype.The isolation and characterization of murine hepatic CSCs could establish a precise target for the development of more effective therapies for HCC. | Aparna Jayachandran Ritu Shrestha Bijay Dhungel I-Tao Huang Marianna Yumi Kawashima Vasconcelos Brian J Morrison Charmaine A Ramlogan-Steel Jason C Steel | 2017 | World Journal of Stem Cells2017,9,9: | 4 |

After simplifying an IEEE feeder diagram, we build a compact smart grid system including a photovoltaic-inverter system, a shunt capacitor, an on-load tapchanger(OLTC) and transmission lines. The system power factor(PF) regulation and reactive power dispatching are indispensable to improve power quality. Our control method uses predictive weather and load data to decide engaging or tripping the shunt capacitor, or reactive power injection by the photovoltaic-inverter system, ultimately to keep the system PF in a good range. From the perspective of economics, the economical model is considered as a decision maker in our predictive data control method.Capacitor-only control strategy is a common photovoltaic(PV)regulation method, which is treated as a baseline case. Simulations with GridLAB-D on profiled loads and residential loads have been carried out.
