| 1 | Low-cost,μm-thick,tape-free electronic tattoo sensors with minimized motion and sweat artifacts显示文摘Electronic tattoos(e-tattoos),also known as epidermal electronics, are ultra-thin and ultra-soft noninvasive but skin-conformable devices with capabilities including physiological sensing and transdermal stimulation and therapeutics. The fabrication of e-tattoos out of conventional inorganic electronic materials used to be tedious and expensive.Recently developed cut-and-paste method has significantly simplified the process and lowered the cost. However, existing cut-and-paste method entails a medical tape on which the electronic tattoo sensors should be pasted, which increases tattoo thickness and degrades its breathability. To address this problem, here we report a slightly modified cut-and-paste method to fabricate low-cost,open-mesh e-tattoos with a total thickness of just 1.5μm.E-tattoos of such thinness can be directly pasted on human skin and conforms to natural skin texture. We demonstrate that this ultra-thin,tape-free e-tattoo can confidently measure electrocardiogram(ECG),skin temperature, and skin hydration.Heart rate and even respiratory rate can be extracted from the ECG signals.A special advantage of such ultra-thin e-tattoo is that it is capable of high-fidelity sensing with minimized motion artifacts under various body movements.Effects of perspiration are found to be insignificant due to the breathability of such e-tattoos. | Youhua Wang Yitao Qiu Shideh Kabiri Ameri Hongwoo Jang Zhaohe Dai YongAn Huang Nanshu Lu | 2018 | npj Flexible Electronics2018,2,1: | 9 |
| 2 | Flow structure over a wavy bed with vegetation cover显示文摘On the basis of experiments carried out in flume with a wavy bed with vegetation cover, flow velocity, turbulence intensities and Reynolds stress distributions are investigated. The wavy bed was similar to dune in this study. The fixed artificial dunes were constructed over the bed and artificial vegetation put over them in a laboratory flume. An Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter and spatially-averaged method were applied to determine turbulent flow components and shear velocity. Results were compared with a gravel bedform. It was observed that vegetation cover influences considerably the flow structure and displays clearly the flow separation and reattachment point. The law of the wall was not valid within the vegetation cover, but it was fitted well to the zone above the vegetation cover within the inner layer. For a wavy bed having the same dimensions, shear velocity and friction factor over vegetation cover are 1.7 and 2.6 times of those for the gravel bedform, respectively. The results of laboratory study were compared with those of river study. | Fazeleh Kabiri Hossein Afzalimehr Jueyi Sui | 2017 | International Journal of Sediment Research2017,32,2: | 3 |
| 3 | Clear-water scour around semi-elliptical abutments with armored beds显示文摘Experimental study has been carried out under a clear-water scour condition to explore the local scour around semi-elliptical model bridge abutments with armor-layer bed, compared with the local scour process around semi-circular abutment. Two types of model bridge abutments, namely semi- elliptical and semi-circular abutments have been used in this experimental study. The model abutments had a ratio of streamwise length of abutment to the length of abutment transverse to the flow of 2 for semi-circular abutments and 3 for semi-elliptical abutments. In total, 50 Experiments have been designed and conducted under different flow conditions such as bed shear velocities, flow depth, and dimensions of bridge abutment model, as well as grain size of the bed material. Based on these experiments, the scour process around bridge abutments has been assessed. The dependence of the equilibrium scour depth of the scour hole on hydraulic variables has been studied. Empirical equation describing the equilibrium scour depth of the scour hole around bridge abutments has been developed. | Jueyi SUI Hossein AFZALIMEHR Abdolreza Kabiri SAMANI Mehmoosh MAHERANI | 2010 | International Journal of Sediment Research2010,25,3: | 2 |
| 4 | Effect of foundation flexibility on ductility reduction factors for R/C stack-like structures显示文摘The most important parameter used to determine force reduction factors in force-based design procedures adopted in the current seismic codes is the structural ductility. For a structure supported on a flexible foundation, the ductility factor could be affected by foundation compliances. The ductility factors given in the current codes are mostly assigned ignoring the effect of SSI and therefore the objective of this research is to assess the signifi cance of SSI phenomenon on ductility factors of stack-like structures. The deformed confi guration of stack-like structures is idealized as an assemblage of beam elements considering nonlinear moment-curvature relations, while a linear sway-rocking model was implemented to model the supporting soil. Using a set of artifi cial records, repeated linear and nonlinear analyses were performed by gradually increasing the intensity of acceleration to a level where the fi rst yielding of steel in linear and nonlinear analyses is observed and a level corresponding to the stack collapse in the nonlinear analysis. The difference between inelastic and elastic resistance in terms of displacement ductility factors has been quantifi ed. The results indicate that foundation flexibility can decrease the ductility of the system and neglecting this phenomenon may lead to erroneous conclusions in the prediction of the seismic performance of flexibly-supported R/C stack-like structures. | Amir M.Halabian Shabnam Kabiri | 2011 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2011,10,2: | 2 |
