Microstructure evolution of nanostructured ferritic alloy with and without Cr3C2c oated SiC at high temperatures显示文摘This work focuses on fundamental understanding of microstructure evolution of nanostructured ferritic alloy(NFA) and 25 vol.% Cr3C2 coated Si C(Cr3C2@Si C)-NFA composite during spark plasma sintering at950°C and the following thermal treatment at 1000°C. A unique bi-phase microstructure with distinct Cr-rich and Si-rich phases has been observed for the 25 vol.% Cr3C2@Si C-NFA composite, while for the NFA sample, the traditional large grain microstructure remains. Grain sizes are significantly smaller for the25 vol.% Cr3C2@Si C-NFA composite compared to those for the pure NFA, which can be attributed to the presence of grain boundary phases in the composite sample. During the thermal treatment, microstructure features can be directly correlated with the dissolution kinetics and phase diagrams calculated using Thermo-Calc/DICTRA/PRISMA~?.Kaustubh Bawane Kathy Lu 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,36,8:3
GDF15 promotes prostate cancer bone metastasis and colonization through osteoblastic CCL2 and RANKL activation显示文摘Bone metastases occur in patients with advanced-stage prostate cancer(PCa). The cell-cell interaction between PCa and the bone microenvironment forms a vicious cycle that modulates the bone microenvironment, increases bone deformities, and drives tumor growth in the bone. However, the molecular mechanisms of PCa-mediated modulation of the bone microenvironment are complex and remain poorly defined. Here, we evaluated growth differentiation factor-15(GDF15) function using in vivo preclinical PCa-bone metastasis mouse models and an in vitro bone cell coculture system. Our results suggest that PCa-secreted GDF15 promotes bone metastases and induces bone microarchitectural alterations in a preclinical xenograft model. Mechanistic studies revealed that GDF15 increases osteoblast function and facilitates the growth of PCa in bone by activating osteoclastogenesis through osteoblastic production of CCL2 and RANKL and recruitment of osteomacs. Altogether, our findings demonstrate the critical role of GDF15 in the modulation of the bone microenvironment and subsequent development of PCa bone metastasis.Jawed Akhtar Siddiqui Parthasarathy Seshacharyulu Sakthivel Muniyan Ramesh Pothuraju Parvez Khan Raghupathy Vengoji Sanjib Chaudhary Shailendra Kumar Maurya Subodh Mukund Lele Maneesh Jain Kaustubh Datta Mohd Wasim Nasser Surinder Kumar Batra 2022Bone Research2022,10,1:2

Seismic behavior of slab-structural wall junction of RC building显示文摘In high seismic zone regions, slender reinforced concrete structural walls are commonly used in high-rise buildings as a main lateral load resisting element. These walls are very effective in limiting the lateral drift of the building due to their large in-plane stiffness. However, the presence of floor slabs influences the behavior of the shear wall. Also, the current design requirements do not account for the presence of floor slabs. To understand the behavior of wall-slab junctions and address the shortcomings of the current design requirements, the influence of two parameters, namely(a) aspect ratio and(b) longitudinal reinforcement ratio on the behavior is studied numerically. It is observed that the presence of floor slabs at different levels tends to partition the wall into squat wall panels between two consecutive floors. The wall-slab junctions show large stress concentrations arising from the strut action in the squat panels. It is also observed that the floor slabs can get significantly damaged near the wall-slab junction for lower vertical reinforcement ratios in the wall. Thus, the current codeprescribed minimum reinforcement in shear walls is not sufficient and needs to be revisited at for improved performance.Snehal Kaushik Kaustubh Dasgupta 2019Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2019,18,2:1

Tumor-and osteoclast-derived NRP2 in prostate cancer bone metastases显示文摘Understanding the role of neuropilin 2(NRP2)in prostate cancer cells as well as in the bone microenvironment is pivotal in the development of an effective targeted therapy for the treatment of prostate cancer bone metastasis. We observed a significant upregulation of NRP2 in prostate cancer cells metastasized to bone. Here,we report that targeting NRP2 in cancer cells can enhance taxane-based chemotherapy with a better therapeutic outcome in bone metastasis, implicating NRP2 as a promising therapeutic target.Since, osteoclasts present in the tumor microenvironment express NRP2,we have investigated the potential effect of targeting NRP2 in osteoclasts. Our results revealed NRP2 negatively regulates osteoclast differentiation and function in the presence of prostate cancer cells that promotes mixed bone lesions. Our study further delineated the molecular mechanisms by which NRP2 regulates osteoclast function.Interestingly, depletion of NRP2 in osteoclasts in vivo showed a decrease in the overall prostate tumor burden in the bone. These results therefore indicate that targeting NRP2 in prostate cancer cells as well as in the osteoclastic compartment can be beneficial in the treatment of prostate cancer bone metastasis.Navatha Shree Polavaram Samikshan Dutta Ridwan Islam Arup K.Bag Sohini Roy David Poitz Jeffrey Karnes Lorenz C.Hofbauer Manish Kohli Brian A.Costello Raffael Jimenez Surinder K.Batra Benjamin A.Teply Michael H.Muders Kaustubh Datta 2021Bone Research2021,9,2:1

Variable optofluidic slit aperture显示文摘The shape of liquid interfaces can be precisely controlled using electrowetting,an actuation mechanism which has been widely used for tunable optofluidic micro-optical components such as lenses or irises. We have expanded the considerable flexibility inherent in electrowetting actuation to realize a variable optofluidic slit,a tunable and reconfigurable two-dimensional aperture with no mechanically moving parts. This optofluidic slit is formed by precisely controlled movement of the liquid interfaces of two highly opaque ink droplets. The 1.5mmlong slit aperture, with controllably variable discrete widths down to 45 mm,may be scanned across a length of 1.5mmwith switching times between adjacent slit positions of less than 120 ms.In addition, for a fixed slit aperture position, the width may be tuned to a minimum of 3 mmwith high uniformity and linearity over the entire slit length. This compact, purely fluidic device offers an electrically controlled aperture tuning range not achievable with extant mechanical alternatives of a similar size.Stefan Schuhladen Kaustubh Banerjee Moritz Stürmer Philipp Müller Ulrike Wallrabe Hans Zappe 2016Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1:1

A fuzzy logic algorithm derived mechatronic concept prototype for crop damage avoidance during eco-friendly eradication of intra-row weeds显示文摘Crop damage during the intra-row weed eradiation is one of the biggest challenges in intercultural agricultural operations.Several available mechanical systems provide effective weeding but result in excess crop damage. On the other hand, chemical based systems have been raising serious environmental and food concerns. This study presents development of a cost-effectivemechatronic prototype for intra-rowweeding operation. The primary focus was on incurring minimal crop damage. The system integrates time of flight and inductive sensing into fuzzy logic algorithm for electronic control of a four-bar linkage mechanism(FBLM).The crank of FBLM was connected to the vertical rotary weed control shaft with weeding blades. The crop sensing triggers the electronic control to laterally shift the control shaft away from crop, proportional to the forward speed and soil conditions. The developed algorithm incorporates varied conditions of soil, forward speed, and plant spacing to calculate dynamic lateral shift speed(SRPM).The prototype was evaluated to determine the relationships between the operating conditions and electronic control parameters. Moreover, the plant damage was assessed under varied conditions of plant spacing, forward speeds, soil cone index, operational depth and electronic control parameters. The derived SRPM was established as the ultimate governing factor for avoiding crop damage that varied significantlywith electronic response time and soil strength(P<0.05).Plant damage increased significantly under higher forward speeds and lower plant spacing(P<0.05).Preliminary field evaluation of the developed prototype showed a significant potential of this system for effective control on weeds(>65%)and crop damage(<25%).Satya Prakash Kumar V.K.Tewari Abhilash K.Chandel C.R.Mehta Brajesh Nare C.R.Chethan Kaustubh Mundhada Prateek Shrivastava Chanchal Gupta Smrutilipi Hota 2020Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture2020,,1:1
