2Epigenetics of hepatocellular carcinoma:Role of microRNA显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)represents a major form of primary liver cancer in adults.MicroRNAs(miRs),small non-coding single-stranded RNAs of 19-24nucleotides in length,negatively regulate the expression of many target genes at the post-transcriptional and/or translational levels and play a critical role in the initiation and progression of HCC.In this review we have summarized the information of aberrantly expressed miRs in HCC,their mechanism of action and relationship to cancer.The recent advances in HCC research reveal that miRs regulate expression of various oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes,thereby contributing to the modulation of diverse biological processes including proliferation,apoptosis,epithelial to mesenchymal transition and metastasis.From a clinical viewpoint,polymorphisms within miR-binding sites are associated with the risk of HCC.Polymorphisms in miR related genes have been shown to correlate with survival or treatment outcome in patients.Furthermore,the review focuses on the potential role of miRs as novel biomarkers and their translational applications for diagnosis and therapy in HCC.With further insights into miR deregulation in HCC,it is expected that novel miR-based therapeutics will arise.Also,we orient the readers to other reviews that may provide better understanding of miR research in HCC.Sharad Khare Qiong Zhang Jamal A Ibdah 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,33:12

4Multilevel Threshold Based Image Denoising in Curvelet Domain显示文摘In this paper, we propose a multilevel thresholding technique for noise removal in curvelet transform domain which uses cycle-spinning. Most of uncorrelated noise gets removed by thresholding curvelet coeffcients at lowest level, while correlated noise gets removed by only a fraction at lower levels, so we used multilevel thresholding on curvelet coe?cients. The threshold in the proposed method depends on the variance of curvelet coeffcients, the mean and the median of absolute curvelet coeffcients at a particular level which makes it adaptive in nature. 5Future changes in rainfall, temperature and reference evapotranspiration in the central India by least square support vector machine显示文摘Climate change affects the environment and natural resources immensely.Rainfall,temperature and evapotranspiration are major parameters of climate affecting changes in the environment.Evapotranspiration plays a key role in crop production and water balance of a region,one of the major parameters affected by climate change.The reference evapotranspiration or ETo is a calculated parameter used in this research.In the present study,changes in the future rainfall,minimum and maximum temperature,and ETo have been shown by downscaling the HadCM3(Hadley Centre Coupled Model version 3) model data.The selected study area is located in a part of the Narmada river basin area in Madhya Pradesh in central India.The downscaled outputs of projected rainfall,ET_0 and temperatures have been shown for the 21 st century with the HADCM3 data of A2 scenario by the Least Square Support Vector Machine(LS-SVM)model.The efficiency of the LS-SVM model was measured by different statistical methods.The selected predictors show considerable correlation with the rainfall and temperature and the application of this model has been done in a basin area which is an agriculture based region and is sensitive to the change of rainfall and temperature.Results showed an increase in the future rainfall,temperatures and ETo.The temperature increase is projected in the high rise of minimum temperature in winter time and the highest increase in maximum temperature is projected in the pre-monsoon season or from March to May.Highest increase is projected in the 2080 s in 2081-2091 and 2091-2099 in maximum temperature and 2091-2099 in minimum temperature in all the stations.Winter maximum temperature has been observed to have increased in the future.High rainfall is also observed with higher ETo in some decades.Two peaks of the increase are observed in ET_0 in the April-May and in the October.Variation in these parameters due to climate change might have an impact on the future water resource of the study area,which is mainly an agricultural based region,and will help in proper planning and management.Sananda Kundu Deepak Khare Arun Mondal 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,3:4

7Modeling of finite-size droplets and particles in multiphase flows显示文摘The conventional point-particle approach for treating the dispersed phase in a continuous flowfield is extended by taking into account the effect of finite particle size, using a Gaussian interpolation from Lagrangian points to the Eulerian field.The inter-phase exchange terms in the conservation equations are distributed over the volume encompassing the particle size, as opposed to the Dirac delta function generally used in the point-particle approach.The proposed approach is benchmarked against three different flow configurations in a numerical framework based on large eddy simulation(LES) turbulence closure.First, the flow over a circular cylinder is simulated for a Reynolds number of 3900 at 1 atm pressure.Results show good agreement with experimental data for the mean streamwise velocity and the vortex shedding frequency in the wake region.The calculated flowfield exhibits correct physics, which the conventional point-particle approach fails to capture.The second case deals with diesel jet injection in quiescent environment over a pressure range of 1.1–5.0 MPa.The calculated jet penetration depth closely matches measurements.It decreases with increasing chamber pressure, due to enhanced drag force in a denser fluid environment.Finally, water and acetone jet injection normal to air crossflow is studied at1 atm.The calculated jet penetration and Sauter mean diameter of liquid droplets compare very well with measurements.Prashant Khare Shanwu Wang Vigor Yang 2015Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2015,28,4:3

10Immunophenotypic signature of primary glioblastoma multiforme: A case of extended progression free survival显示文摘Glioblastoma-multiforme(GBM), the most aggressive glial tumor, has a worldwide age-adjusted incidence ranging from 0.59-3.69/100000 persons. Despite current multimodal-treatment approach, median-survival time and progression-free survival(PFS) remains short. Glioblastomas display a variety of molecular alterations, which necessitates determining which of these have a prognostic significance. This is a case of a 45-yearold patient who presented with progressive slurring of speech and features of raised intracranial pressure. Computed tomography(CT) scan revealed a large heterogeneously enhancing lesion in the left front-temporalperisylvian region with solid, cystic areas, suggestive of malignant glioma. Partial tumor-excision was followed by concurrent chemo-radiotherapy. Histopathologically, the tumor was astrocytoma grade-IV. Patient had an extended PFS of 12 mo, with an overall survival of 26 mo. Primary-GBM was confirmed using molecular markers and the immunophenotypic signature was defined by evaluating systemic expression of human telomerase reverse transcriptase, interleukin-6, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1, human chitinase-3-like-protein-1(YKL-40) and high mobility group-A1. 11Unique case of oligoastrocytoma with recurrence and grade progression:Exhibiting differential expression of high mobility group-A1 and human telomerase reverse transcriptase显示文摘Mixed gliomas, primarily oligoastrocytomas, account for about 5%-10% of all gliomas. Distinguishing oligoastrocytoma based on histological features alone has limitations in predicting the exact biological behavior, necessitating ancillary markers for greater specificity. In this case report, human telomerase reverse transcriptase(hT ERT) and high mobility group-A1(HMGA1); markers of proliferation and stemness, have been quantitatively analyzed in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples of a 34 years old patient with oligoastrocytoma. Customized florescence-based immunohistochemistry protocol with enhanced sensitivity and specificity is used in the study. The patient presented with a history of generalized seizures and his magnetic resonance imaging scans revealed infiltrative ill-defined mass lesion with calcified foci within the left frontal white matter, suggestive of glioma. He was surgically treated at our center for four consecutive clinical events. Histopathologically, the tumor was identified as oligoastrocytoma-grade Ⅱ followed by two recurrence events and final progression to grade Ⅲ. Overall survival of the patient without adjuvant therapy was more than 9 years. Glial fibrillary acidic protein, p53, Ki-67, nuclear atypia index, pre-operative neutrophillymphocyte ratio, are the other parameters assessed. Findings suggest that hT ERT and HMGA1 are linked to tumor recurrence and progression.
