Spatial patterns of plant diversity and communities in Alpine ecosystems of the Hengduan Mountains, northwest Yunnan, China显示文摘Aims Conduct a quantitative, but rapid,regional-level assessment of the alpine flora across northwest Yunnan(NWY)to provide a broadbased understanding of local and regional patterns of the composition, diversity and health of alpine ecosystems across NWY.Methods A stratified random sampling design was employed to select sites across the different mountain ranges of NWY.Vegetation was sampled by stratifying each site by the three major alpine vegetation community types:meadow, dwarf shrub and scree. Two 50-m transects were randomly located within each community type at each sampling site with 101-m^(2) subplots systematically placed along each transect.Environmental variables were recorded at each transect.Multivariate analyses were used to classify the major plant community assemblages and link community patterns to environmental and habitat variables.Important Findings Forb species richness varied from 19 to 105 species per site(21 sites total)with an average of 59 species per site(60 m^(2) sampled per site). Most species were patchily distributed with narrow distributions and/or small population sizes;over half the species occurred at only one or two sites.Distinct species assemblages were identified in the meadow vegetation that was strongly aggregated by geographic location suggesting the presence of distinct phytogeographic zones of the meadow alpine flora.Elevation and geographic location were the dominant environmental gradients underlying the variations in species composition.Jaccard’s coefficient of similarity averaged only 10%among sites indicating there was little similarity in the alpine flora across the region. The alpine vegetation is highly heterogeneous across the complex landscape of the Hengduan Mountains of NWY.Conservation strategies need to take into account the large geographic differences in the flora to maximize protection of biodiversity. | Ruth Sherman Renee Mullen Li Haomin Fang Zhendong Wang Yi | 2008 | Journal of Plant Ecology2008,1,2: | 20
Coupling-induced excitation of a forbidden surface plasmon mode of a gold nanorod显示文摘Using the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method,we simulate the coupling between a gold nanorod and gold nanoparticles with different plasmonic resonant frequencies/volumes as well as that between the nanorod and a dielectric nanosphere. The influences of coupling with different nanoparticles on the excitation of a forbidden longitudinal surface plasmon mode of the nanorod under normal incidence are investigated. It is found that the cause of this excitation is the broken symmetry of the local electric field experienced by the nanorod resulting from the charge pileup on the other nanoparticle. This result is valuable for understanding the near-field optical characterization of plasmonic metal nanoparticles. | YAO HaoMin LI Zhi GONG QiHuang | 2009 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2009,52,8: | 8
The origin, diversification and adaptation of a major mangrove clade (Rhizophoreae) revealed by whole-genome sequencing显示文摘Mangroves invade some very marginal habitats for woody plants—at the interface between land and sea.Since mangroves anchor tropical coastal communities globally, their origin, diversification and adaptation are of scientific significance, particularly at a time of global climate change. In this study, a combination of single-molecule long reads and the more conventional short reads are generated from Rhizophora apiculata for the de novo assembly of its genome to a near chromosome level. The longest scaffold, N50 and N90 for the R. apiculata genome, are 13.3 Mb, 5.4 Mb and 1.0 Mb, respectively. Short reads for the genomes and transcriptomes of eight related species are also generated. We find that the ancestor of Rhizophoreae experienced a whole-genome duplication ~70 Myrs ago, which is followed rather quickly by colonization and species diversification. Mangroves exhibit pan-exome modifications of amino acid(AA) usage as well as unusual AA substitutions among closely related species. The usage and substitution of AAs, unique among plants surveyed, is correlated with the rapid evolution of proteins in mangroves. A small subset of these substitutions is associated with mangroves' highly specialized traits(vivipary and red bark) thought to be adaptive in the intertidal habitats. Despite the many adaptive features, mangroves are among the least genetically diverse plants, likely the result of continual habitat turnovers caused by repeated rises and falls of sea level in the geologically recent past. Mangrove genomes thus inform about their past evolutionary success as well as portend a possibly difficult future. | Shaohua Xu Ziwen He Zhang Zhang Zixiao Guo Wuxia Guo Haomin Lyu Jianfang Li Ming Yang Zhenglin Du Yelin Huang Renchao Zhou Cairong Zhong David E. | 5 | Alpine Ecosystems of Northwest Yunnan,China:an Initial Assessment for Conservation显示文摘Implementing conservation actions on-the-ground is not a straightforward process, especially when faced with high scientific uncertainty due to limited available information. This is especially acute in regions of the world that harbor many unique species that have not been well studied, such as the alpine zone of the Hengduan Mountains of Northwest Yunnan (NWY),a global biodiversity hotspot and site of The Nature Conservancy’s Yunnan Great Rivers Project. We conducted a quantitative, but rapid regional-level assessment of the alpine flora across NWY to provide a broad-based understanding of local and regional patterns of the alpine flora, the first large-scale analysis of alpine biodiversity patterns in this region. Multivariate analyses were used to classify the major plant community types and link community patterns to habitat variables. Our analysis indicated that most species had small distributions and/or small population sizes. Strong patterns emerged with higher diversity in the more northern mountains, but beta diversity was high, averaging only 10% among sites. The ordinations indicated that elevation and geographic location were the dominant environ-mental gradients underlying the differences in the species composition among communities. The high beta diversity across the alpine of these mountains implies that conservation strategies ultimately will require the protection of large numbers of species over a large geographical area. However,prioritiza-tion should be given to areas where potential payoffs are greatest. Sites with high species richness also have a greater number of endemic species, and,by focusing efforts on these sites, conservation investments would be maximized by protecting the greatest number of unique species. | Ruth Sherman Renee Mullen LI Haomin FANG Zhendong WANG Yi | 2007 | Journal of Mountain Science2007,4,3: | 3
Unraveling specific role of carbon matrix over Pd/quasi-Ce-MOF facilitating toluene enhanced degradation显示文摘Metal organic frameworks(MOFs)derivatives represented by quasi-MOFs have excellent physical and chemical properties and can be applied for the catalytic combustion of volatile organic compounds(VOCs).In this work,Pd/quasi-Ce-BTC synthesized by simple one-step Npyrolysis was applied to the oxidation of toluene, showing excellent toluene catalytic activity(T_(90)=175℃,30000 mL/(g·h)).Microscopic analyses indicate the formation and interaction of a carbon matrix composite quasi-MOF structure interface. The results show that the amorphous carbon matrix formed during the partial pyrolysis of Ce-BTC significantly improves the adsorption and activation capacity of toluene in the reaction, and constructs a reductive system to maintain high concentrations of Ce^(3+)and Pd^(0),which can facilitate the activation and utilization of oxygen in reaction.Quasi in-situ XPS proves that carbon matrix is indirectly involved in the activation and storage of oxygen, and Pd^(0)is the crucial active site for the activation of oxygen.Stability and water resistance tests display good stability of Pd/quasi-Ce-BTC.This work provides a potential method for designing quasi-MOF catalysts towards VOCs effective abatement. | Chunjing Su Zhi Li Mengqi Mao Wenhua Ye Jinping Zhong Quanming Ren Hairong Cheng Haomin Huang Mingli Fu Junliang Wu Yun Hu Daiqi Ye Haihong Xu | 2022 | Journal of Rare Earths2022,40,11: | 2
Ultra-sensitive and wide applicable strain sensor enabled by carbon nanofibers with dual alignment for human machine interfaces显示文摘Flexible strain sensors with high sensitivity, wide detection range, and low detection limit have continuously attracted great interest due to their tremendous application potential in areas such as health/medical-care,human-machine interface,as well as safety and security. While both of a high sensitivity and a wide working range are desired key parameters for a strain sensor, they are usually contrary to each other to be achieved on the same sensor due to the tightly structure dependence of both of them. Here,a flexible strain sensor with both high sensitivity and wide strain detection range is prepared based on the design of an integrated membrane containing both of parallel aligned and randomly aligned carbon nanofibers(CNFs).The parallel aligned CNF membrane(p-CNF)exhibits a low strain detection limit and high sensitivity, while the random aligned CNF membrane(r-CNF)exhibits a large strain detection range.Taking the advantages of both p-CNF and r-CNF,the strain sensor with stacked p-CNF and r-CNF(p/r-CNF)exhibits both high sensitivity and wide working range. Its gauge factor(GF)is 1,272 for strains under 0.5%and 2,266 for strain from 70%to 100%.At the same time,it can work in a wide strain range of 0.005%to 100%,fulfilling the requirements for accurately detecting full-range human motions. We demonstrated its applications in the recognition of facial expressions and joint movements.Furtherly,we constructed an intelligent lip-language recognition system, which can accurately track phonetic symbols and may help people with language disabilities, proving the potential of this strain sensor in health management and medical assistance.Besides,we foresee that the dual-alignment structure design of the p/r-CNF strain sensor may also be applied in the design of other high performance sensors. | Peng Bi Mingchao Zhang Shuo Li Haojie Lu Haomin Wang Xiaoping Liang Huarun Liang Yingying Zhang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,3: | 2
Lower Cretaceous angio-sperm leaf from Wuhe in Anhui,China显示文摘A new early angiosperm leaf species is reported from the Xinzhuang Formation in Wuhe County, Anhui Province. It is probably of Barremian or slightly later in geological age. The fossil leaf is small, no more than 0.6 cm both in length and in width. The leaf veins are well preserved and clearly visible under a low power microscope. Leaf ar-chitectural analysis shows that such a leaf should belong to the first leaf rank of Hickey, i.e. the most primitive one. There are no early angiosperm leaves published completely similar to ours. A new species name of Dicotylophyllum minutissimum sp. nov. is established for the present leaf fos-sils. | LI Haomin Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008, China | 2003 | Chinese Science Bulletin2003,48,6: | 2
Mechanically Reinforced Silkworm Silk Fiber by Hot Stretching显示文摘Silkworm silk, which is obtained from domesticated Bombyx mori(B.mori),can be produced in a large scale. However, the mechanical properties of silkworm silk are inferior to its counterpart, spider dragline silk. Therefore, researchers are continuously exploring approaches to reinforce silkworm silk.Herein,we report a facile and scalable hot stretching process to reinforce natural silk fibers obtained from silkworm cocoons.Experimental results show that the obtained hot-stretched silk fibers(HSSFs)retain the chemical components of the original silk fibers while being endowed with increasedβ-sheet nanocrystal content and crystalline orientation, leading to enhanced mechanical properties.Significantly, the average modulus of the HSSFs reaches 21:6±2:8 GPa,which is about twice that of pristine silkworm silk fibers(11:0±1:7 GPa).Besides, the tensile strength of the HSSFs reaches 0:77±0:13 GPa,which is also obviously higher than that of the pristine silk(0:56±0:08 GPa).The results show that the hot stretching treatment is effective and efficient for producing superstiff, strong, and tough silkworm silk fibers. We anticipate this approach may be also effective for reinforcing other natural or artificial polymer fibers or films containing abundant hydrogen bonds. | Haojie Lu Kailun Xia Muqiang Jian Xiaoping Liang Zhe Yin Mingchao Zhang Huimin Wang Haomin Wang Shuo Li Yingying Zhang | 2022 | Research2022,,3: | 1
Influence of particle size and ionic strength on the freeze-thaw stability of emulsions stabilized by whey protein isolate显示文摘The influence of particle size and ionic strength on the freeze-thaw(FT) stability of emulsions stabilized by whey protein isolate(WPI) was investigated in this study. The destabilization of emulsions during the FT process could be suppressed in a way by decreasing the particle size of the initial emulsions, which was the result of retarding the coalescence between oil droplets. To further improve the FT stability of emulsions, different amounts of Na Cl were added before emulsification. The emulsions with the ionic strength at 30–50 mmol/L exhibited good FT stability. Notably, the ionic strength in this range would not lower the freezing point of emulsions below the freezing temperature used in this study. Salt addition could improve the structural properties of proteins, which was available to strengthen the rigidity and thickness of interfacial layers, sequentially building up the resistance that the destruction of ice crystals to emulsions. Moreover, stronger flocculation between emulsion droplets could promote the formation of a gel-like network structure dominated by elasticity in the emulsion system, which might effectively inhibit the movement of droplets, and improve the FT stability of emulsions eventually. The result was of great significance for the preparation of emulsion-based foods with improved FT stability. | Hao Lai Fuchao Zhan Yujie Wei Abel W.S.Zongo Sha Jiang Haomin Sui Bin Li Jing Li | 2022 | Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,4: | 1
Comparative Study on Analysis and Fitting of Pudong Chicken Growth Curve显示文摘The objective of this paper was to study the growth and development laws of Pudong chicken. The growth curve of Pudong chicken(cock and hen) from 0 to 20 weeks was analyzed and fitted with three models(Gompertz, Logistic and Bertalanffy). It was concluded that the growth curves were appropriately fitted with three models, and fitness degree(R2)in growth data of Pudong chicken were all above 0.992. The Bertalanffy model was the most effective with the highest R2 for cock(R2=0.995) and hen(R2=0.999), respectively. With further analysis of fitted parameters for Logistic model of cock, 0-3 weeks' fitted values were significantly greater than measured values and 4-8 weeks ' fitted values were lower than measured values. Compared with Logistic model, the values calculated by Gompertz model and Bertalanffy model were more coincident with the practical measuring values. For hens, 0-3 weeks ' fitted values of Logistic model were significantly greater than measured values and 0-2 weeks ' fitted values of Gompertz model were slightly greater than measured values, while the values calculated by Bertalanffy model best matched the observed val-ues from actual measure. The results showed that Bertalanffy model used to estimate the growth weight of Pudong chicken was the best while Logis-tic model was the worst. So the fitness and analysis of growth curves of Pudong chicken are valid, which may be adopted to predict growth and de-velopment laws of Pudong chicken and provide reliable data for precise feeding and breeding. | Lu Xuelin Zhao Lele Li Hejun Xu Dong Wu Haomin Xu Weibin | 2018 | Animal Husbandry and Feed Science2018,10,3: | 1

Pathogenesis of premature coronary artery disease:Focus on risk factors and genetic variants显示文摘The development of premature coronary artery disease(PCAD)is dependent on both genetic predisposition and traditional risk factors.Strategies for unraveling the genetic basis of PCAD have evolved with the advent of modern technologies.Genome-wide association studies(GWASs)have identified a considerable number of common genetic variants that are associated with PCAD.Most of these genetic variants are attributable to lipid and blood pressure-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs).The genetic variants that predispose individuals to developing PCAD may depend on race and ethnicity. Some characteristic genetic variants have been identified in Chinese populations.Although translating this genetic knowledge into clinical applications is still challenging, these genetic variants can be used for CAD phenotype identification, genetic prediction and therapy. In this article we will provide a comprehensive review of genetic variants detected by GWASs that are predicted to contribute to the development of PCAD.We will highlight recent findings regarding CAD-related genetic variants in Chinese populations and discuss the potential clinical utility of genetic variants for preventing and managing PCAD. | Haiming Wang Zifan Liu Junjie Shao Min Jiang Xuechun Lu Lejian Lin Lin Wang Qiang Xu Haomin Zhang Xin Li Jingjing Zhou Yundai Chen Ran Zhang | 2022 | Genes & Diseases2022,9,2: | 1

Carbothermal shock enabled facile and fast growth of carbon nanotubes in a second显示文摘Carbon nanotubes(CNTs)hold great promise in many fields because of their unique structures and properties. However, the preparation of CNTs generally involves cumbersome equipment and time-consuming processes. Here,we report an ultra-fast carbothermal shock(CTS)approach for synthesizing CNTs with a simple homemade setup by employing Joule heating of a carbon substrate.Carbonized silk fabric(CSF)loaded with transition metal salts in ethanol solution was used as the substrate, which was treated with a pulse voltage of 40 V for only 50 ms and then covered with uniform CNTs grown with bimetallic alloy catalyst nanoparticles(diameter:~9 nm).The temperature ramp rate is as high as 105 K/s.The as-obtained sample has a unique fluffy structure similar to the trichobothrium of spiders, endowing it versatile applications such as airflow sensors or air filters. The CTS technique presents an easy-accessible and highly efficient approach for synthesizing CNTs,which may be also applied in synthesizing other nanomaterials. | Haomin Wang Huimin Wang Shuchen Zhang Yong Zhang Kailun Xia Zhe Yin Mingchao Zhang Xiaoping Liang Haojie Lu Shuo Li Jin Zhang Yingying Zhang | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,3: | 0
Bioinformatics analysis of SARS-CoV-2 infectionassociated immune injury and therapeutic prediction for COVID-19显示文摘Background:Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 is a highly contagious viral infection, without any available targeted therapies. The high mortality rate of COVID-19 is speculated to be related to immune damage. Methods:In this study, clinical bioinformatics analysis was conducted on transcriptome data of coronavirus infection. Results:Bioinformatics analysis revealed that the complex immune injury induced by coronavirus infection provoked dysfunction of numerous immune-related molecules and signaling pathways, including immune cells and toll-like receptor cascades.Production of numerous cytokines through the Th17 signaling pathway led to elevation in plasma levels of cytokines(including IL6,NF-kB,and TNF-a)followed by concurrent inflammatory storm, which mediates the autoimmune response.Several novel medications seemed to display therapeutic effects on immune damage associated with coronavirus infection. Conclusions:This study provided insights for further large-scale studies on the target therapy on reconciliation of immunological damage associated with COVID-19. | Haomin Zhang Haoran Chen Jundong Zhang Ximeng Chen Bin Guo Peng Zhi Zhuoyang Li Geliang Liu Bo Yang Xiaohua Chi Yixing Wang Feng Cao Jun Ren Xuechun Lu | 2021 | Emergency and Critical Care Medicine2021,1,1: | 0
