1Roles of a sustained activation of NCED3 and the synergistic regulation of ABA biosynthesis and catabolism in ABA signal production in Arabidopsis显示文摘ABA, acting as a stress signal, plays crucial roles in plant resistance to water stress. Because ABA signal production is based on ABA biosynthesis, the regulation of NCED, a key enzyme in the ABA biosynthesis pathway, is normally thought of as the sole factor controlling ABA signal production. Here we demonstrate that ABA catabolism in combination with a synergistic regulation of ABA biosynthesis plays a crucial role in governing ABA signal production. Water stress induced a significant accumulation of ABA, which exhibited different patterns in detached and attached leaves. ABA catabolism followed a temporal trend of exponential decay for both basic and stress ABA, and there was little difference in the catabolic half-lives of basic ABA and stress ABA. Thus, the absolute rate of ABA catabolism, i.e. the amount of ABA catabolized per unit time, increases with increased ABA accumulation. From the dynamic processes of ABA biosynthesis and catabolism, it can be inferred that stress ABA accumulation may be governed by a synergistic regulation of all the steps in the ABA biosynthesis pathway. Moreover, to maintain an elevated level of stress ABA sustained activation of NCED3 should be required. This inference was supported by further findings that the genes encoding major enzymes in the ABA biosynthesis pathway, e.g. NCED3, AAO3 and ABA3 were all activated by water stress, and with ABA accumulation progressing, the expressions of NCED3, AAO3 and ABA3 remained activated. 2Liquid modified photonic crystal fiber for simultaneous temperature and strain measurement显示文摘A liquid modified photonic crystal fiber(PCF)integrated with an embedded directional coupler and multi-mode interferometer is fabricated by infiltrating three adjacent air holes of the innermost layer with standard 1.48 refractive index liquids.The refractive index of the filled liquid is higher than that of background silica,which can not only support the transmitting rod modes but also the'liquid modified core'modes propagating between the PCF core and the liquid rods.Hence,the light propagating in the liquid modified core can be efficiently coupled into the satellite waveguides under the phase-matching conditions,resulting in a dramatic decrease of the resonant wavelength intensity.Furthermore,there is a multi-mode interference produced by modified core modes and rod modes.Such a compact(~0.91 cm)device integrated with an embedded coupler and interferometer is demonstrated for high-sensitivity simultaneous temperature(~14.72 nm∕℃)and strain(~13.01 pm∕με)measurement.CHUPAO LIN YING WANG YIJIAN HUANG CHANGRUI LIAO ZHIYONG BAI MAOXIANG HOU ZHENGYONG LI YIPING WANG 2017Photonics Research2017,5,2:3

17A Retrospective Study of the Epidemiologic and Clinical Characteristics of COVID-19 Among Hospitalized Patients in Quanzhou,China显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has spread throughout China.However,information about COVID-19 in cities and regions outside Wuhan is limited and the indicators that predict the length of hospital stay for patients with COVID-19 are unclear.Therefore,we collected clinical data from 47 patients with COVID-19 in Quanzhou City.The median age was 38 years[interquartile range(IQR):31–50 years],and 24(51%)were male.There were 8 mild,36 moderate,and 3 severe/critical cases.The median interval from exposure to disease onset was 13 days(IQR:8–18 days).The incidence of severe/critical cases was 33%(3/10)in patients with hypertension.Common symptoms included fever(83%),cough(77%),fatigue(40%),a sore,dry throat(28%),and diarrhea(21%).One patient(2%)developed respiratory distress syndrome on day 13 of inpatient treatment.Six patients had leukopenia,17 had elevated C-reactive protein(CRP),and 8 had lymphocytopenia and elevated lactate dehydrogenase(LDH).The median length of hospitalization was 22 days(IQR:16-30 days).Dynamic monitoring of LDH,CRP,and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio predicted whether length of hospitalization would exceed 21 days.Most patients presented with mild and moderate disease.Patients with hypertension were more likely to become severe or critical.Dynamic monitoring of LDH,CRP,and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio levels can help predict delayed discharge from the hospital.Wenhuang Chen Yijian Lin Hongbo Huang Maosheng Cai Dongheng Lin Milong Su Zhijun Su Xibin Zhuang Xueping Yu 2021Infectious Microbes & Diseases2021,3,1:0
