1High-speed colour-converting photodetector with all-inorganic CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanocrystals for ultraviolet light communication显示文摘Optical wireless communication(OWC)using the ultra-broad spectrum of the visible-to-ultraviolet(UV)wavelength region remains a vital field of research for mitigating the saturated bandwidth of radio-frequency(RF)communication.However,the lack of an efficient UV photodetection methodology hinders the development of UV-based communication.The key technological impediment is related to the low UV-photon absorption in existing silicon photodetectors,which offer low-cost and mature platforms.To address this technology gap,we report a hybrid Sibased photodetection scheme by incorporating CsPbBr_(3) perovskite nanocrystals(NCs)with a high photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY)and a fast photoluminescence(PL)decay time as a UV-to-visible colourconverting layer for high-speed solar-blind UV communication.The facile formation of drop-cast CsPbBr_(3) perovskite NCs leads to a high PLQY of up to ~73% and strong absorption in the UV region.With the addition of the NC layer,a nearly threefold improvement in the responsivity and an increase of ~25% in the external quantum efficiency(EQE)of the solar-blind region compared to a commercial silicon-based photodetector were observed.Moreover,timeresolved photoluminescence measurements demonstrated a decay time of 4.5 ns under a 372-nm UV excitation source,thus elucidating the potential of this layer as a fast colour-converting layer.A high data rate of up to 34 Mbps in solar-blind communication was achieved using the hybrid CsPbBr_(3)-silicon photodetection scheme in conjunction with a 278-nm UVC light-emitting diode(LED).These findings demonstrate the feasibility of an integrated high-speed photoreceiver design of a composition-tuneable perovskite-based phosphor and a low-cost silicon-based photodetector for UV communication.Chun Hong Kang Ibrahim Dursun Guangyu Liu Lutfan Sinatra Xiaobin Sun Meiwei Kong Jun Pan Partha Maity Ee-Ning Ooi Tien Khee Ng Omar F.Mohammed Osman M.Bakr Boon S.Ooi 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:14
2A critical review on the chemical wear and wear suppression of diamond tools in diamond cutting of ferrous metals显示文摘Diamond tools play a critical role in ultra-precision machining due to their excellent physical and mechanical material properties,such as that cutting edge can be sharpened to nanoscale accuracy.However,abrasive chemical reactions between diamond and non-diamond-machinable metal elements,including Fe,Cr,Ti,Ni,etc,can cause excessive tool wear in diamond cutting of such metals and most of their alloys.This paper reviews the latest achievements in the chemical wear and wear suppression methods for diamond tools in cutting of ferrous metals.The focus will be on the wear mechanism of diamond tools,and the typical wear reduction methods for diamond cutting of ferrous metals,including ultrasonic vibration cutting,cryogenic cutting,surface nitridation and plasma assisted cutting,etc.Relevant commercially available devices are introduced as well.Furthermore,future research trends in diamond tool wear suppression are discussed and examined.Guo Jiang Zhang Jianguo Pan Yanan Kang Renke Namba Yoshiharu Shore Paul Yue Xiaobin Wang Baorui Guo Dongming 2020International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing2020,2,1:7
3Multi-scale three-dimensional variational data assimilation for high-resolution aerosol observations: Methodology and application显示文摘With an increasing number of air quality monitoring stations installed around the Chinese mainland,high-resolution aerosol observations become available,allowing improvements in air pollution monitoring and aerosol forecasting.However,the multi scales(especially small-scale)information included in high-resolution aerosol observations could not be effectively utilized by the traditional three-dimensional variational method(3DVAR).This study attempted to extend the traditional 3DVAR to a multi-scale 3DVAR with two iteration steps,two-scale-3DVAR(TS-3DVAR),to improve the effectiveness of assimilating high-resolution observations.In TS-3DVAR,the large-scale and small-scale components of observation information were decomposed from the original high-resolution observations using a Gaussian smoothing method and then assimilated using the corresponding large-scale or small-scale background error covariances which were derived from the partitioned background error samples.The data assimilation(DA)analysis field generated by TS-3DVAR is more accurate than 3DVAR in reproducing the field’s multi-scale characteristics,which could thus be used as the initial chemical field of the air quality model to improve aerosol forecasting.Particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5μm(PM_(2.5))and 10.0μm(PM_(10)) from the surface air quality monitoring stations from November 01 to November 30,2018 at 00:00 were assimilated daily to verify the effects of TS-3DVAR and 3DVAR on the aerosol analysis and forecast accuracy.The results showed that TS-3DVAR better constrained both large-scale and small-scale,especially the spatial wavelengths in a range of 54-216 km and those above 351 km.The average power spectra of the TS-3DVAR assimilation increment in the two wavelength ranges were 71.70%and 35.33%higher than those of 3DVAR.As a result,the TS-3DVAR was more effective than 3DVAR in improving the accuracy of the initial chemical field,and thereby the forecasting capability for PM_(2.5).In the initial chemical field,the 30-day average correlation coefficient(Corr)of PM_(2.5) of TS-3DVAR was 0.052(6.12%)higher than that of 3DVAR,and the root mean square error(RMSE)of TS-3DVAR was 3.446μg m^(−3)(16.4%)lower than that of 3DVAR.For the forecasting capability for PM_(2.5) mass concentration,the 30-day average Corr of TS-3DVAR during the 0-24 hour forecast period was 0.025(5.08%)higher than that of 3DVAR,and the average RMSE was 2.027μg m^(−3)(4.85%)lower.The positive effect of TS-3DVAR on the improvement of forecasting capability can last for more than 24 h.Zengliang ZANG Yanfei LIANG Wei YOU Yi LI Xiaobin PAN Zhijin LI 2022Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,10:2
4Statistical Analysis of Thunderstorms on the Eastern Tibetan Plateau Based on Modified Thunderstorm Indices显示文摘The Tibetan Plateau, with an average altitude above 4000 m, is the highest and largest plateau in the world. The frequency of thunderstorms in this region is extremely high. Many indices are used in operational forecasting to assess the stability of the atmosphere and predict the probability of severe thunderstorm development. One of the disadvantages of many of these indices is that they are mainly based on observations from plains. However, considering the Plateau's high elevation, most convective parameters cannot be applied directly, or their application is ineffective. The pre-convective environment on thunderstorm days in this region is investigated based on sounding data obtained throughout a five-year period(2006–10).Thunderstorms occur over the Tibetan Plateau under conditions that differ strikingly from those in plains. On this basis,stability indices, such as the Showalter index(including SI and SICCL), and the K index are improved to better assess the thunderstorm environments on the Plateau. Verification parameters, such as the true-skill statistic(TSS) and Heidke skill score(HSS), are adopted to evaluate the optimal thresholds and relative forecast skill for each modified index. Lastly, the modified indices are verified with a two-year independent dataset(2011–12), showing satisfactory results for the modified indices. 8A three-dimensional variational data assimilation system for a size-resolved aerosol model: Implementation and application for particulate matter and gaseous pollutant forecasts across China显示文摘A three-dimensional variational(3DVAR)data assimilation(DA)system is presented here based on a size-resolved sectional aerosol model,the Model for Simulating Aerosol Interactions and Chemistry(MOSAIC)within the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled to Chemistry(WRF-Chem)model.The use of this approach means that both gaseous pollutants such as SO2,NO2,CO,and O3 as well as particulate matter(PM2.5,PM10)observational data can be assimilated simultaneously.Two one-month parallel simulation experiments were conducted,one with the assimilation of surface hourly concentration observations of the above six pollutants released by the China National Environmental Monitoring Centre(CNEMC)and one without assimilation in order to verify the impact of assimilation on initial chemical fields and subsequent forecasts.Results show that,in the first place,use of the DA system can provide a more accurate model initial field.The root-mean-square error of PM2.5,PM10,SO2,NO2,CO,and O3 mass concentrations in analysis field fell by 29.27μg m-3(53.5%),34.5μg m-3(50.9%),30.36μg m-3(64.2%),8.91μg m-3(39.5%),0.46 mg m-3(47.4%),and 15.11μg m-3(51.0%),respectively,compared to a background field without assimilation.At the same time,mean fraction error was reduced by 42.6%,53.1%,45.2%,43.1%,69.9%,and 48.8%,respectively,while the correlation coefficient increased by 0.51,0.55,0.48,0.38,0.47,0.65,respectively.Secondly,the results of this analysis reveal variable benefits from assimilation on different pollutants.DA significantly improves PM2.5,PM10,and CO forecasts leading to positive effects that last more than 48 h.The positive effects of DA on SO2 and O3 forecasts last up to 8 h but that remains relatively poor for NO2 forecasts.Thirdly,the influence of assimilation varies in different areas.It is possible that the positive effects of DA on PM2.5 and PM10 forecasts can last more than 48 h across most regions of China.Indeed,DA significantly improves SO2 forecasts within 48 h over north China,and much longer CO assimilation benefits(48 h)are found in most regions apart from north and east China and across the Sichuan Basin.DA is able to improve O3 forecasts within 48 h across China with the exception of southwest and northwest regions and the O3 DA benefits in southern China are more evident,while from a spatial distribution perspective,NO2 DA benefits remain relatively poor.Daichun WANG Wei YOU Zengliang ZANG Xiaobin PAN Hongrang HE Yanfei LIANG 2020Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,9:1

11Molecular characterization of avian influenza virus (H7N8) isolated from poultry in Central China in the mid-1980s显示文摘The molecular and pathogenic properties of avian influenza virus (A/duck/Hubei/216/1985/H7N8) isolated from Hubei Province of China in 1985 were characterized.The hemagglutinin gene (HA) of Dk/Hb/216/85/H7N8 had the multiple amino acid se-quences (-PEIPKGRG-) at the connecting peptide between HA1 and HA2, which is considered to be a distinguishing molecular characteristic of low pathogenicity.The key sites of host markers among the genes (M, NP, NS, PA and PB2) of Dk/Hb/ 216/85/H7N8 were similar to those of H5N1 viruses.Phylogenetic analysis showed that the genes (M, NS and PB2) of Dk/Hb/ 216/85/H7N8 clustered closely with those of Gs/Guangdong/1996/H5N1 (Gs/GD/96), implying that three ancient genes of Gs/ GD/96-like viruses had been circulating in Central China during the 1980s.In experimental infection, Dk/Hb/216/85/H7N8 was lowly pathogenic to chickens and mice, consistent with the molecular feature of HA gene.YANG JiaLin XIA Han ZHAO JiuRu HE XiaoBin PAN LiMin TANG Shuang ZHANG Zhong KOU Zheng LI TianXian 2010Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,16:1

14Multi‑color Tunable and White Circularly Polarized Luminescent Composite Nanofibers Electrospun from Chiral Helical Polymer显示文摘Circularly polarized luminescence(CPL)-active nanomaterials have attracted tremendous attention.However,it is still a big challenge to conveniently fabricate multi-color and white CPL-active nanomaterials on a large scale.Herein,a simple and scalable approach to achieve the above goals is presented.Multicolor CPL-active nanofibers are fabricated from chiral helical substituted polyacetylene,achiral fluorescent dyes and polyacrylonitrile via uniaxial electrospinning;the highest luminescence dissymmetry factor(glum)of the resulting nanofibers can reach 10^(−2).Furthermore,white CPL-active nanofibers are obtained by coaxial electrospinning,in which the resulting core-shell structure has excellent adjustability and can be utilized to physically isolate different fluorescent dyes to reduce energy transfer efficiency;therefore,stable white CPL emissions can be achieved with high g_(lum) values up to 10^(−3).Notably,the prepared white-emission CPL nanofibrous films show bright white circularly polarized light when coated on UV chips,demonstrating their future application in constructing low-cost and flexible light-emitting devices such as circularly polarized light-emitting diodes.Pengpeng Li Xiaobin Gao Biao Zhao Kai Pan Jianping Deng 2022Advanced Fiber Materials2022,4,6:1

18Protein-activated atomic layer deposition for robust crude-oil-repellent hierarchical nano-armored membranes显示文摘Atomic layer deposition(ALD)offers unique capabilities to fabricate atomically engineered porous materials with precise pore tuning and multi-functionalization for diverse applications like advanced membrane separations towards sustainable energy-water systems.However,current ALD technique is inhibited on most non-polar polymeric membranes due to lack of accessible nucleation sites.Here,we report a facile method to efficiently promote ALD coating on hydrophobic surface of polymeric membranes via novel protein activation/sensitization.As a proof of concept,TiO2 ALD-coated membranes activated by bovine serum albumin exhibit remarkable superhydrophilicity,ultralow underwater crude oil adhesion,and robust tolerance to rigorous environments including acid,alkali,saline,and ethanol.Most importantly,excellent cyclable crude oil-in-water emulsion separation performance can be achieved.The mechanism for activation/sensitization is rooted in reactivity for a particular set of amino acids.Furthermore,the universality of protein-sensitized ALD is demonstrated using common egg white,promising numerous potential usages in biomedical engineering,environmental remediation,lowcarbon manufacturing,catalysis,and beyond.Xiaobin Yang Pan Sun Yajie Wen Anil U.Mane Jeffrey W.Elam Jun Ma Shaomin Liu Seth B.Darling Lu Shao 2024Science Bulletin2024,69,2:0
19Analysis of Boundary Layer Structure,Turbulence,and Flux Variations before and after the Passage of a Sea Breeze Front Using Meteorological Tower Data显示文摘A detailed analysis of a sea breeze front(SBF)that penetrated inland in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei urban agglomeration of China was conducted.We focused on the boundary layer structure,turbulence intensity,and fluxes before and after the SBF passed through two meteorological towers in the urban areas of Tianjin and Beijing,respectively.Significant changes in temperature,humidity,winds,CO_(2),and aerosol concentrations were observed as the SBF passed.Differences in these changes at the two towers mainly resulted from their distances from the ocean,boundary layer conditions,and background turbulences.As the SBF approached,a strong updraft appeared in the boundary layer,carrying near-surface aerosols aloft and forming the SBF head.This was followed by a broad downdraft,which destroyed the near-surface inversion layer and temporarily increased the surface air temperature at night.The feeder flow after the thermodynamic front was characterized by low-level jets horizontally,and downdrafts and occasional updrafts vertically.Turbulence increased significantly during the SBF’s passage,causing an increase in the standard deviation of wind components in speed.The increase in turbulence was more pronounced in a stable boundary layer compared to that in a convective boundary layer.The passage of the SBF generated more mechanical turbulences,as indicated by increased friction velocity and turbulent kinetic energy(TKE).The shear term in the TKE budget equation increased more significantly than the buoyancy term.The atmosphere shifted to a forced convective state after the SBF’s passage,with near isotropic turbulences and uniform mixing and diffusion of aerosols.Sensible heat fluxes(latent heat and CO_(2)fluxes)showed positive(negative)peaks after the SBF’s passage,primarily caused by horizontal and vertical transport of heat(water vapor and CO_(2))during its passage.This study enhances understanding of boundary layer changes,turbulences,and fluxes during the passage of SBFs over urban areas.Ju LI Junxia DOU Donald H. 20β-1,2-Mannan-based glycoconjugates as potential antifungal vaccines显示文摘Phosphorylated di-,tri-and tetra-saccharides ofβ-1,2-mannan antigen derived from Candida albicans(C.albicans)cell wall were synthesized and covalently conjugated with keyhole limpet hemocyanin(KLH)and human serum albumin(HSA)via a bifunctional linker under mild conditions.The semi-syntheticβ-1,2-mannoside–KLH conjugates were evaluated for the immunization of BALB/c mice.The ELISA results revealed that all three conjugates could elicit high levels of specific IgG antibodies and the acquired antisera could effectively identify theβ-1,2-mannan epitope.Furthermore,the immunofluorescence and flow cytometry assays also uncovered that the induced antibodies,especially that obtained from immunization withβ-1,2-mannotriose–KLH conjugate(1b),could bind well to fungi cell.Eventually,the structure–immunogenicity relationship analysis ofβ-mannan showed that the length of oligo-β-mannoses had a big impact on their immunogenicity andβ-1,2-mannotriose showed the strongest immunogenicity.The results suggested the great potential ofβ-1,2-mannotriose–KLH conjugate as an antifungal vaccine candidate.Jun Liao Bo Pan Xiaobin Zhuo Guochao Liao Yun Gao Zhenzhen Yao Lianghua Wang Qiuye Wu Weihua Pan Binghua Jiao Qingjie Zhao 2022Chinese Chemical Letters2022,33,9:0
