| 1 | Restoring the plant productivity of heavy metal-contaminated soil using phosphate sludge,marble waste,and beneficial microorganisms显示文摘Assisted natural remediation(ANR)has been highlighted as a promising,less expensive,and environmentally friendly solution to remediate soil contaminated with heavy metals.We tested the effects of three amendments(10%compost,C;5 or 15%phosphate sludge,PS5 and PS15;and 5 or 15%marble waste,MW5 and MW15)in combination with microorganism inoculation(rhizobacteria consortium alone,mycorrhizae alone,and the two incombination)on alfalfa in contaminated soil.Plant concentrations of Zn,Cu,and Pb were measured,along with proline and malondialdehyde production.The microbiological and physicochemical properties of the mining soil were evaluated.Application of the amendments allowed germination and promoted growth.Inoculation with the rhizobacteria consortium and/or mycorrhizae stimulated plant growth.PS and MW stimulated the production of proline.Inoculation of alfalfa with the rhizobacteria-mycorrhizae mixture and the application of MW allowed the safe cultivation of the legume,as shown by the low concentrations of metals in plant shoots.Zn and Pb concentrations were below the limits recommended for animal grazing and accumulated essentially in roots.Soil analyses showed the positive effect of the amendments on the soil physicochemical properties.All treatments increased soil p H(around 7),total organic carbon,and assimilable phosphorus content.Notably,an important decrease in soluble heavy metals concentrations was observed.Overall,our findings revealed that the applied treatments reduced the risk of metal-polluted soils limiting plant growth.The ANR has great potential for success in the restoration of polymetallic and acidic mining soils using the interaction between alfalfa,microorganisms,and organomineral amendments. | Anas Raklami Abdel-ilah Tahiri Noura Bechtaoui ElGharmali Abdelhay Eloisa Pajuelo Marouane Baslam Abdelilah Meddich Khalid Oufdou | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,1: | 8 |
| 2 | Chronic permanent hypoxemia predisposes to mild elevation of liver stiffness显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the impact of long term permanent hypoxemia noticed in patients with non operated congenital cyanogenic cyanotic cardiopathy on liver stiffness.METHODS:We included ten adult patients with non operated inoperate cyanotic cardiopathy and ten matched patients for age and gender admitted to the gastroenterology department for proctologic diseases;Clinical and laboratory data were collected[age,gender,body mass index,oxygen saturation,glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase(GOT),glutamate pyruvate transaminase(GPT),glycemia and cholesterol].Measurement of hepatic stiffness by transient elastography was carried out in all patients using the Fibroscan device.All patients underwent an echocardiography to eliminate congestive heart failure.RESULTS:Among the patients with cyanotic cardiopathy,median liver stiffness 5.9±1.3 kPa was greater than control group(4.7±0.4 kPa)(P=0.008).Median levels of GOT,GPT,gamma-glutamyltransferase,glycemia and cholesterol were comparable in cardiopathy and control group.In regression analysis including age,gender,body mass index,oxygen saturation,GOT,GPT,glycemia,cholesterol showed that only oxygen saturation was related to liver stiffness(r=-0.63 P=0.002).CONCLUSION:Chronic permanent hypoxemia can induce mild increase of liver stiffness,but further studies are needed to explore the histological aspects of liver injury induced by chronic permanent hypoxemia. | Mohamed Tahiri Abdenasser Drighil Yasmine Jalal Dounia Ghellab Wafaa Hliwa Haddad Fouad Wafaa Badre Ahmad Bellabah Rachida Habbal Rhimou Alaoui | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,30: | 5 |
| 3 | Planting position and shade enhance native seedling performance in forest restoration for an endangered malagasy plant显示文摘The critically endangered tree Schizolaena tampoketsana is confined to a few diminished and degraded forest fragments on the Malagasy highlands. This habitat is vulnerable to loss due to frequent fires in the surrounding grassland that threaten to spread into the forest. One of these fragments is the focus a conservation project and here the managers aim to conserve S. tampoketsana by restoring its forest habitat to its former extent as evidenced by remnant woody plants. To inform this activity the survival and early-stage growth of seedlings of four locally native tree species were compared under contrasting conditions of proximity to the remaining forest and shade. After 12 months, seedlings of three species(Baronia taratana, Eugenia pluricymosa, Uapaca densifolia) survived better and experienced improved growth in height in grassland close to the existing forest rather than distant from it, and two survived better with shade rather than unshaded. A number of mechanisms could explain these results including reduced exposure to desiccating sunlight and winds and better soil and greater water availability close to the forest. The seedlings of one species(Nuxia capitata) survived well under all conditions.
