1Particle-size-dependent upconversion luminescence of NaYF4:Yb,Er nanoparticles in organic solvents and water at different excitation power densities显示文摘A systematic study of the luminescence properties of monodisperse β-NaYF4: 20%Yb^3+,2%Er^3+ upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs)with sizes ranging from 12--43nm is presented utilizing steady-state and time-resolved fluorometry. Special emphasis was dedicated to the absolute quantification of size-and environment-induced quenching of upconversion luminescence (UCL)by highenergy O-H and C-H vibrations from solvent and ligand molecules at different excitation power densities (P).In this context,the still-debated population pathways of the 4F9/2 energy level of Er^3+ were examined.Our results highlight the potential of particle size and P value for color tuning based on the pronounced near-infrared emission of 12nm UCNPs,which outweighs the red Er^3+emission under 'strongly quenched'conditions and accounts for over 50% of total UCL in water.Because current rate equation models do not include such emissions,the suitability of these models for accurately simulating all (de)population pathways of small UCNPs must be critically assessed.Furthermore,we postulate population pathways for the 4F9/2energy level of Er3.,Which correlate with the size-,environment-,and P-dependent quenching states of the higher Er^3+ energy levels.Marco Kraft Christian Würth Verena Muhr Thomas Hirsch Ute Resch-Genger 2018Nano Research2018,11,12:8
2Gynecologic oncologists involvement on ovarian cancer standard of care receipt and survival显示文摘AIM:To examine the influence of gynecologic oncolo-gists(GO) in the United States on surgical/chemotherapeutic standard of care(SOC), and how this translates into improved survival among women with ovarian cancer(OC).METHODS: Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result(SEER)-Medicare data were used to identify 11688 OC patients(1992-2006). Only Medicare recipients with an initial surgical procedure code(n = 6714) were included. Physician specialty was identified by linking SEER-Medicare to the American Medical Association Masterfile. SOC was defined by a panel of GOs. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine predictors of receiving surgical/chemotherapeutic SOCand proportional hazards modeling to estimate the effect of SOC treatment and physician specialty on survival. RESULTS: About 34% received surgery from a GO and 25% received the overall SOC. One-third of women had a GO involved sometime during their care. Women receiving surgery from a GO vs non-GO had 2.35 times the odds of receiving the surgical SOC and 1.25 times the odds of receiving chemotherapeutic SOC(P < 0.01). Risk of mortality was greater among women not receiving surgical SOC compared to those who did [hazard ratio = 1.22(95%CI: 1.12-1.33), P < 0.01], and also was higher among women seen by non-GOs vs GOs(for surgical treatment) after adjusting for covariates. Median survival time was 14 mo longer for women receiving combined SOC. CONCLUSION: A survival advantage associated with receiving surgical SOC and overall treatment by a GO is supported. 3Multiband emission from single β-NaYF_(4)(Yb,Er) nanoparticles at high excitation power densities and comparison to ensemble studies显示文摘Ensemble and single particle studies of the excitation power density (P)-dependent upconversion luminescence (UCL) of core and core-shell β-NaYF_(4):Yb,Er upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) doped with 20% Yb^(3+) and 1% or 3% Er^(^(3+)) performed over a P regime of 6 orders of magnitude reveal an increasing contribution of the emission from high energy Er^(3+) levels at P > 1 kW/cm^(2). This changes the overall emission color from initially green over yellow to white. While initially the green and with increasing P the red emission dominate in ensemble measurements at P < 1 kW/cm^(2), the increasing population of higher Er^(^(3+)) energy levels by multiphotonic processes at higher P in single particle studies results in a multitude of emission bands in the ultraviolet/visible/near infrared (UV/vis/NIR) accompanied by a decreased contribution of the red luminescence. Based upon a thorough analysis of the P-dependence of UCL, the emission bands activated at high P were grouped and assigned to 2–3, 3–4, and 4 photonic processes involving energy transfer (ET), excited-state absorption (ESA), cross-relaxation (CR), back energy transfer (BET), and non-radiative relaxation processes (nRP). 18Effect of gynecologic oncologist availability on ovarian cancer mortality显示文摘AIM: To determine the association between the distribution of gynecologic oncologist(GO) and populationbased ovarian cancer death rates. METHODS: Data on ovarian cancer incidence and mortality in the United States was supplemented with United States census data, and analyzed in relation to practicing GOs. GO locations were geocoded to link association between county variables and GO availability. Logistic regression was used to measure areas of high and low ovarian cancer mortality, adjusting for contextual variables. RESULTS: Practicing GOs were unevenly distributed in the United States, with the greatest numbers in metropolitan areas. Ovarian cancer incidence and death rates increased as distance to a practicing GO increased. A relatively small number(153) of counties within 24 miles of a GO had high ovarian cancer death rates compared to 577 counties located 50 or more miles away with high ovarian cancer death rates. Counties located 50 or more miles away from a GO practice had an almost 60% greater odds of high ovarian cancer mortality compared to those with closer practicing GOs(OR = 1.59, 95%CI: 1.18-2.15). CONCLUSION: The distribution of GOs across the United States appears to be significantly associated with ovarian cancer mortality. 19Biliary drainage in inoperable malignant biliary distal obstruction: A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Endoscopic drainage remains the treatment of choice for unresectable or inoperable malignant distal biliary obstruction(MDBO).AIM To compare the safety and efficacy of plastic stent(PS)vs self-expanding metal stent(SEMS)placement for treatment of MDBO.METHODS This meta-analysis was developed according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines.A comprehensive search was performed in MEDLINE,Cochrane,Embase,Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature,and grey literature to identify randomized clinical trials(RCTs)comparing clinical success,adverse events,stent dysfunction rate,reintervention rate,duration of stent patency,and mean survival.Risk difference(RD)and mean difference(MD)were calculated and heterogeneity was assessed with I2 statistic.Subgroup analyses were performed by SEMS type.RESULTS Twelve RCTs were included in this study,totaling 1005 patients.There was no difference in clinical success(RD=-0.03,95%confidence interval[CI]:-0.01,0.07;I 2=0%),rate of adverse events(RD=-0.03,95%CI:-0.10,0.03;I2=57%),and mean patient survival(MD=-0.63,95%CI:-18.07,19.33;I2=54%)between SEMS vs PS placement.However,SEMS placement was associated with a lower rate of reintervention(RD=-0.34,95%CI:-0.46,-0.22;I2=57%)and longer duration of stent patency(MD=125.77 d,95%CI:77.5,174.01).Subgroup analyses revealed both covered and uncovered SEMS improved stent patency compared to PS(RD=152.25,95%CI:37.42,267.07;I2=98%and RD=101.5,95%CI:38.91,164.09;I2=98%;respectively).Stent dysfunction was higher in the covered SEMS group(RD=-0.21,95%CI:-0.32,-0.1;I²=205%),with no difference in the uncovered SEMS group(RD=-0.08,95%CI:-0.56,0.39;I²=87%).CONCLUSION While both stent types possessed a similar clinical success rate,complication rate,and patient-associated mean survival for treatment of MDBO,SEMS were associated with a longer duration of stent patency compared to PS.Maria Vitória Cury Vieira Scatimburgo Igor Braga Ribeiro Diogo Turiani Hourneaux de Moura Vitor Massaro Takamatsu Sagae Bruno Salomão Hirsch Mateus Bond Boghossian Thomas R McCarty Marcos EduardoLera dos Santos Tomazo Antonio Prince Franzini Wanderley Marques Bernardo Eduardo GuimarãesHourneaux de Moura 2021World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2021,13,5:0
