1Dual Resistance of Melon to Fusarium oxysporum Races 0 and 2 and to Papaya ring-spot virus is Controlled by a Pair of Head-to-Head-Oriented NB-LRR Genes of Unusual Architecture显示文摘Dear Editor, Potyviruses such as Papaya ring-spot virus (PRSV) cause important yield losses in cucurbits. Two distinct resistant alleles were identified in the Cucumis melo germplasm.Accession PI 414723 (Supplemental Table 1) possesses monogenic resistance, controlled by the Prv2 allele, and reacts to PRSV by systemic necrotic lesions;plants with the Prv1 allele, described in cultivar WMR-29,remain symptomless (Pitrat and Lecoq,1983).Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.melonis (FUS)exclusively attacks melon, causing severe wilt.Monogenic dominant resistance was described against races 0,1,and 2.The Fom-2 gene, controlling resistance to races 0 and 1,was cloned by Joobeur et al.(2004),and encodes a nucleotide binding domain (NB)-leucine rich repeat (LRR) protein. Our study focused on the Fom-1 gene, which confers resistance to races 0 and 2 (Risser et al.,1976),and on the Prv gene;the two are tightly linked on melon linkage group iX.Molecular markers were developed for the Fom-1/Prv locus, but no study has provided the resolution required for positional cloning.Yariv Brotman Michael Normantovich Zachi Goldenberg Zvi Zvirin Irina Kovalski Nastacia Stovbun Tirza Doniger Anthony M. 2Ethanolic extracts of babandotan leaves(Ageratum conyzoides L.)prevents inflammation and proteoglycan degradation by inhibiting TNF-αand MMP-9 on osteoarthritis rats induced by monosodium iodoacetate显示文摘Objective:To analyze the effects of Ageratum conyzoides L.on the monosodium iodoacetate induced osteoarthritis rats. Methods:Thin layer chromatography was performed to analyze the constituents of the babandotan extract leaves.White male Sprague-Dawley rats used in this study were divided into 6 groups:normal control and negative control groups, both given0.5%carboxymethyl cellulose;the positive control group that was given glucosamine and chondroitin suspension(486 mg/200 g B.W.);the 3 dose variation extract groups including dose 1,2,and 3 that were given 40,80,and 160 mg/200 g B.W.respectively on day 29 until50.All the groups were induced with 0.05 mL monosodium iodoacetate(20 mg/mL)on day1,except normal control induced by saline.Measurement of edema volume of rat knees was performed on day 0,8,15,22,29,43,and 50.Hematology data was measured at day 1,29and 50.Serum was collected at day 50 to evaluate TNF-α and MMP-9 by ELISA.Cartilage histopathology was evaluated by staining with H&E and Safranin-o-fast green staining on day 50.Results:The babandotan leaves extract dose 2(80 mg/200 g B.W.)and dose 3(160mg/200 g B.W.)could decrease the edema volume, increase the area and thickness of articular cartilage, and increase proteoglycan level.Particularly, dose 3(160 mg/200 g B.W.)of extract babandotan leaves were able to significantly decrease the number of leukocytes, lymphocytes and udem volume, and decrease TNF alpha and MMP-9 levels. Conclusions:Babandotan leaves extract can recover inflammation and cartilages degradation by inhibiting TNF-αin inflammation processes and MMP-9 in the collagenase reaction in the cartilages.Anton Bahtiar Mutiara Nurazizah Tirza Roselina Anita Paulina Tambunan Ade Arsianti 2017Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,3:6

12Profiling soil free-living nematodes in the Namib Desert, Namibia显示文摘Functional structure and diversity of soil free-living nematodes in a desert environment depend on plant gender and sampling site. The objective of this study was to compare the composition, abundance and tropic group of soil free-living nematodes in the upper 0–10 cm soil layer under the male and female Acanthosicyos horridus Welw.ex Hook.f.plants and in the inter-shrub open areas(control)in the Namib Desert,Namibia in April 2015.Soil moisture, organic matter(OM)and pH was also analyzed.Free-living nematodes were extracted from 100 g soil using the Baermann funnel procedure, and total number of nematodes was counted under a microscope.Community composition and diversity of soil free-living nematodes were analyzed using 18S rDNA sequences. Results indicated that a total of 67 groups, including 64 species,2 genera and 1 family were identified.Feeding behavior of 58 species were identified as follows:15 bacteria-feeding species,12 fungi-feeding species,10 plant-parasite species,5 omnivorous-predator species,8 animal-parasite species,5 invertebrate-parasite species and 3 non-free-living nematodes, known as marine species. Moreover, soil free-living nematodes were found to be affected by sampling locations and plant gender, and community composition and density of these nematodes were strongly influenced by soil OM content.Result confirmed that spatial location and plant cover were main factors influencing the diversity of soil free-living nematodes. Moreover, molecular tools were found to be very useful in defining the richness of soil non-free-living nematodes. In conclusion, the results elucidated the importance of biotic variables in determining the composition and abundance of soil free-living nematodes in the Namib Desert,Namibia.Eugene MARAIS Gillian MAGGS-KÖLLING Chen SHERMAN Tirza DONIGER LIURentao Binu M TRIPATHI Yosef STEINBERGER 2020Journal of Arid Land2020,12,1:0
13Free-living nematode community structure and distribution within vineyard soil aggregates under conventional and organic management practices显示文摘Soil biota play a crucial role in soil ecosystem stability, promoting organic matter decomposition and nutrient cycling. Compared to conventional farming, organic farming is known to improve soil properties such as aggregation. Despite the importance of soil microbial communities in soil biogeochemical processes, our knowledge of their dynamics is rudimentary, especially under different agricultural management practices. Here we studied the effects of vineyard management practices(conventional and organic) and soil aggregate fractions(micro-, meso-, and macroaggregates) on free-living soil nematodes. The abundance, diversity, and ecological indices, such as the Wasilewska index and trophic diversity, of free-living soil nematodes were determined. We found that the abundance of free-living soil nematodes was increased by organic farming. In addition, plant parasites were found to increase in macroaggregates in the organic plot, which may be attributed to the weeds present due to no-tillage and no herbicides. Nematode family network connectivity increased in complexity with increasing aggregate size, highlighting the importance of the interplay between nematodes and soil inter-aggregate pore size and connectivity.Yosef STEINBERGER Dorsaf KERFAHI Tirza DONIGER Chen SHERMAN Itaii APPLEBAUM Gil ESHEL 2023Pedosphere2023,33,6:0
