2Ethyl pyruvate protects against experimental acute-on-chronic liver failure in rats显示文摘AIM:To investigate the protective effects of ethyl pyruvate(EP) on acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF) in rats.METHODS:An ACLF model was established in rats,and animals were randomly divided into normal,model and EP treatment groups.The rats in EP treatment group received EP(40 mg/kg) at 3 h,6 h,12 h and 24 h after induction of ACLF.Serum endotoxin,high mobility group box-1(HMGB1),alanine transaminase(ALT),tumor necrosis factor-(TNF-),interferon-(IFN-),interleukin(IL)-10 and IL-18 levels,changes of liver histology and HMGB1 expressions in liver tissues were detected at 48 h after induction of ACLF.The effects of EP on the survival of ACLF rats were also observed.RESULTS:Serum levels of endotoxin(0.394 ± 0.066 EU/mL vs 0.086 ± 0.017 EU/mL,P < 0.001),HMGB1(35.42 ± 10.86 g/L vs 2.14 ± 0.27 g/L,P < 0.001),ALT(8415.87 ± 3567.54 IU/L vs 38.64 ± 8.82 IU/L,P < 0.001),TNF-(190.77 ± 12.34 ng/L vs 124.40 ± 4.12 ng/L,P < 0.001),IFN-(715.38 ± 86.03 ng/L vs 398.66 ± 32.91 ng/L,P < 0.001),IL-10(6.85 ± 0.64 ng/L vs 3.49 ± 0.24 ng/L,P < 0.001) and IL-18(85.19 ± 3.49 ng/L vs 55.38 ± 1.25 ng/L,P < 0.001) were significantly increased,and liver tissues presented severe pathological injury in the model group compared with the normal group.However,EP administration significantly improved hepatic histopathology and reduced the serum levels of endotoxin(0.155 ± 0.045 EU/mL vs 0.394 ± 0.066 EU/mL,P < 0.001) and inflammatory cytokines(11.13 ± 2.58 g/L vs 35.42 ± 10.86 g/L for HMGB1,3512.86 ± 972.67 IU/L vs 8415.87 ± 3567.54 IU/L for ALT,128.55 ± 5.76 ng/L vs 190.77 ± 12.34 ng/L for TNF-,438.16 ± 38.10 ng/L vs 715.38 ± 86.03 ng/L for IFN-,3.55 ± 0.36 ng/L vs 6.85 ± 0.64 ng/L for IL-10,and 60.35 ± 1.63 ng/L vs 85.19 ± 3.49 ng/L for IL-18,respectively,P < 0.001),and the levels of HMGB1 in liver tissues regardless of treatment time after induction of ACLF.EP treatment at the four time points prolonged the median survival time of ACLF rats(60 h) to 162 h,120 h,102 h and 78 h,respectively(2 = 41.17,P < 0.0001).CONCLUSION:EP administration can protect against ACLF in rats,and is a potential and novel therapeutic agent for severe liver injury.Lu-Wen Wang Li-Kun Wang Hui Chen Cheng Fan Xun Li Can-Ming He Zuo-Jiong Gong 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,40:14

4Production of glass-ceramics using Municipal solid waste incineration fly ash显示文摘Municipal solid waste incineration(MSWI) fly ash is a by-product from municipal waste incineration.According to incomplete statistics, each year more than one million tons MSWI fly ash was produced in China. Owing to high heavy elements content, widely used disposal methods of landfill are not suitable for MSWI fly ash treatment. In this study, by using MSWI fly ash as raw materials, glassceramics was synthesized for the solidification of heavy metals and waste recycle. Process parameters, including composition, heat treatment temperature and time, were studied and optimized. Under optimizing conditions, the product has good properties of density of 3.42 g·cm^(-3) and Vickers hardness of 6.91 GPa. 6Sodium butyrate protects against toxin-induced acute liver failure in rats显示文摘BACKGROUND: Acute liver failure(ALF) is a serious clinical syndrome with high mortality. Sodium butyrate has been shown to alleviate organ injury in a wide variety of preclinical models of critical diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of sodium butyrate on ALF in rats.METHODS: All rats were randomly divided into control,model and sodium butyrate treatment groups. Except the control group, the rats were induced ALF animal model by subcutaneous injection of human serum albumin+D- galactosamine+lipopolysaccharide. After induction of ALF,the rats in the treatment group received sodium butyrate(500mg/kg) at 12-hour or 24-hour time point. Fourty-eight hours after ALF induction, the animals were sacrificed and samples were harvested. Serum endotoxin, high mobility group box-1(HMGB1), liver function parameters, tumor necrosis factoralpha(TNF-α) and interferon-gamma(IFN-γ) were measured.The expression of HMGB1 and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)p65 protein in liver tissue was detected by Western blotting. The histological changes of liver and intestine were examined. The survival duration was also observed.RESULTS: Serum endotoxin, alanine aminotransferase, HMGB1,TNF-α and IFN-γ were significantly increased and the liver histology showed more severe histopathological injury in the model group compared with the control group(P<0.05).Compared to the model group, sodium butyrate treatment significantly improved the histopathological changes in the liver and intestine, reduced serum endotoxin and inflammatory cytokines, suppressed HMGB1 and NF-кB p65 proteins in liver tissue, and prolonged the survival duration regardless of treatment at 12 hours or 24 hours after induction of ALF(P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS: Sodium butyrate protected the liver from toxin-induced ALF in rats. 7Study on precipitation and transition mechanisms from the magnetic properties of silicon steel during annealing显示文摘Precipitates play an important role in determining the mechanical and magnetic properties of silicon steel. This paper aims to investigate the growth kinetics of precipitates in commercial silicon steel by analyzing its magnetic properties during isothermal annealing at 200°C. The growth of precipitates was studied by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and magnetic measurements. In combination with the coercive field and initial susceptibility, this technique offers the advantage of being non-destructive and providing quantitative information about the number, mean radius of precipitates, and fraction of transformation. 9Recognition and localization system of the robot for harvesting Hangzhou White Chrysanthemums显示文摘To realize the robotic harvesting of Hangzhou White Chrysanthemums,the quick recognition and 3D vision localization system for target Chrysanthemums was investigated in this study.The system was comprised of three main stages.Firstly,an end-effector and a simple freedom manipulator with three degrees were designed to meet the quality requirements of harvesting Hangzhou White Chrysanthemums.Secondly,a segmentation based on HSV color space was performed.A fast Fuzzy C-means(FCM)algorithm based on S component was proposed to extract the target image from irrelevant background.Thirdly,binocular stereo vision was used to acquire the target spatial information.According to the shape of Hangzhou White Chrysanthemums,the centroids of stamens were selected as feature points to match in the right and left images.The experimental results showed that the proposed method was able to recognize Hangzhou White Chrysanthemums with the accuracy of 85%.When the distance between target and baseline was 150-450 mm,the errors between the calculated and measured distance were less than 14 mm,which could meet the requirements of the localization accuracy of the harvesting robot.Qinghua Yang Chun Chang Guanjun Bao Jun Fan Yi Xun 2018International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2018,11,1:5

11Effects of LY294002 on the invasiveness of human gastric cancer in vivo in nude mice显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effects of class phosphatidy-linositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor LY294002 on the invasiveness and related mechanisms of implanted tumors of SGC7901 human gastric carcinoma cells in nude mice. METHODS: Nude mice were randomly divided into model control groups and LY294002 treatment groups. On days 5, 10 and 15 after treatment, the inhibitory rate of tumor growth, pathological changes in tumor specimens, expression levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, CD34 [representing microvessel density (MVD)] and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), as well as apoptosis indexes in tumor samples were observed.RESULTS: In this study, we showed that treatingthe tumors with LY294002 could significantly inhibit carcinoma growth by 11.3%, 29.4% and 36.7%, after 5, 10 and 15 d, respectively, compared to the control group. Hematoxylin & eosin staining indicated that the rate of inhibition increased progressively (23.51% ± 3.11%, 43.20% ± 3.27% and 63.28% ± 2.10% at 5, 10 and 15 d, respectively) along with apoptosis. The expression of MMP-2 was also downregulated (from 71.4% ± 1.6% to 47.9% ± 0.7%, 31.9% ± 0.9% and 7.9% ± 0.7%). The same effects were observed in MMP-9 protein expression (from 49.4% ± 1.5% to 36.9% ± 0.4%, 23.5% ± 0.9% and 7.7% ± 0.6%), the mean MVD (from 51.2% ± 3.1% to 41.9% ± 1.5%, 30.9% ± 1.7% and 14.9% ± 0.8%), and the expression of VEGF (from 47.2% ± 3.1% to 25.9% ± 0.5%, 18.6% ± 1.2% and 5.1% ± 0.9%) by immunohistochemical staining.CONCLUSION: The classPI3K inhibitor LY294002could inhibit the invasiveness of gastric cancer cells by downregulating the expression of MMP-2, MMP-9, and VEGF, and reducing MVD.Chun-Gen Xing Bao-Song Zhu Xiao-Qing Fan Hui-Hui Liu Xun Hou Kui Zhao Zheng-Hong Qin 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,40:5
12Novel trichromatic phosphor Co-doped with Eu, Tb in SiO_2 gel matrix显示文摘The Eu, Tb co-doped SiO2 matrix tricolor fluorescence system was prepared by sol-gel technique. Red emission at 618 nm, green emission at 543 nm and blue emission at 350―500 nm were observed in the PL spectra of the sample, indicating that Eu3+, Eu2+ and Tb3+ ions coexisted in the matrix. In the co-doped sample, the blue emission of Eu2+ was much stronger than that of the sample single doped with Eu, which implied that the electron transfer between Eu3+ and Tb3+ maybe happened in the SiO2 matrix. The influences of the annealing temperature and Tb concentration on the PL spectra of the samples were investigated. The optimal doped concentration of Tb was determined to be 0.2% and the optimal annealing temperature 850℃. 13Meteorin-β/Meteorin like/IL-41 attenuates airway inflammation in house dust mite-induced allergic asthma显示文摘We sought to examine the regulatory effect of Meteorin-β(Metrnβ)/Meteorin like(Metrnl)/IL-41 on lung inflammation in allergic asthma.We found that Metrnβwas elevated significantly in asthmatic patients and in mice with allergic asthma induced by house dust mite(HDM)extract.Upon exposure to HDM,Metrnβwas secreted predominantly by airway epithelial cells and inflammatory cells,including macrophages and eosinophils.The increased Metrnβeffectively blocked the development of airway hyperreactivity(AHR)and decreased inflammatory cell airway infiltration and type 2 cytokine production,which was associated with downregulated DC-mediated adaptive immune responses.Moreover,Metrnβimpaired the maturation and function of bone marrow-derived dendritic cells in vitro.Asthmatic mice adoptively transferred with dendritic cells isolated from Metrnβ-treated allergic mice displayed decreased AHR,airway inflammation,and lung injury.Metrnβalso displayed anti-inflammatory properties in immunodeficient SCID mice with allergic asthma and in in vitro 3D ALI airway models.Moreover,blockade of Metrnβby anti-Metrnβantibody treatment promoted the development of allergic asthma.These results revealed the unappreciated protective roles of Metrnβin alleviating DC-mediated Th2 inflammation in allergic asthma,providing the novel treatment strategy of therapeutic targeting of Metrnβin allergic asthma.Xun Gao Ting-Fan Leung Gary Wing-Kin Wong Wing-Hung Ko Mengyun Cai Ellie Jiayi He Ida Miu-Ting Chu Miranda Sin-Man Tsang Ben Chung-Lap Chan Jiawei Ling Xiao Fan Liwei Lu Christopher Wai-Kei Lam Chun-Kwok Wong 2022Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,2:5

15The baroreflex afferent pathway plays a critical role in H_(2)S-mediated autonomic control of blood pressure regulation under physiological and hypertensive conditions显示文摘Hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S),which is closely related to various cardiovascular disorders,lowers blood pressure(BP),but whether this action is mediated via the modification of baroreflex afferent function has not been elucidated.Therefore,the current study aimed to investigate the role of the baroreflex afferent pathway in H_(2)S-mediated autonomic control of BP regulation.The results showed that baroreflex sensitivity(BRS)was increased by acute intravenous NaHS(a H_(2)S donor)administration to renovascular hypertensive(RVH)and control rats.Molecular expression data also showed that the expression levels of critical enzymes related to H_(2)S were aberrantly downregulated in the nodose ganglion(NG)and nucleus tractus solitarius(NTS)in RVH rats.A clear reduction in BP by the microinjection of NaHS or L-cysteine into the NG was confirmed in both RVH and control rats,and a less dramatic effect was observed in model rats.Furthermore,the beneficial effects of NaHS administered by chronic intraperitoneal infusion on dysregulated systolic blood pressure(SBP),cardiac parameters,and BRS were verified in RVH rats.Moreover,the increase in BRS was attributed to activation and upregulation of the ATP-sensitive potassium(KATP)channels Kir6.2 and SUR1,which are functionally expressed in the NG and NTS.In summary,H_(2)S plays a crucial role in the autonomic control of BP regulation by improving baroreflex afferent function due at least in part to increased KATP channel expression in the baroreflex afferent pathway under physiological and hypertensive conditions.Ying Li Yan Feng Li Liu Xue Li Xin-yu Li Xun Sun Ke-xin Li Rong-rong Zha Hong-dan Wang Meng-di Zhang Xiong-xiong Fan Di Wu Yao Fan Hao-cheng Zhang Guo-fen Qiao Bai-yan Li 2021Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,6:3
16Effect of electropulsing treatment on static recrystallization behavior of cold-rolled magnesium alloy ZK60 with different reductions显示文摘Effect of electropulsing treatment(EPT) on recrystallization behavior of cold-rolled Mg alloy ZK60 strips was investigated. It was found that EPT significantly improved nucleation rate and migration ability of grain boundaries, leading to accelerated recrystallization of the deformed metals at relatively low temperature. After the recrystallization induced by EPT, the average grain size of 20% rolling reduction samples decreased from 113 um to around 10 um, meanwhile the typical basal-type texture of the coldrolled sample was weakened. EPT was normally accompanied with a thermal and an athermal effects. The athermal effect played a dominated role in increasing nucleation rate, while the thermal effect promoted grain growth. 17Nature inspired hierarchical structures in nano-cellular epoxy/graphene-Fe3O4 nanocomposites with ultra-efficient EMI and robust mechanical strength显示文摘Hierarchical layered structures,whether in a compact form like nacre or a porous manner like bone,are well known for their combined features of high stiffness,strength,and lightweight,inspiring many man-made materials and structures for high performance applications.The use of nacre/bone like hierarchical structures in polymer nanocomposites can achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties with high filler volume fractions after carefully aligning functional nanofillers,although the fabrication and processing remain a great challenge.In this work,a bio-inspired lightweight nano-cellular epoxy/graphene-Fe_(3)O_(4) nanocomposite with high nanofiller loading of 75 wt.%was successfully fabricated by combining features from both nacre and bone structures,via a simple compression molding process together with an eco-friendly supercritical CO_(2) foaming process to achieve robust mechanical strength and excellent electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding effectiveness(SE)simultaneously.Highly aligned graphene-Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoplatelets with well controlled nanoscale porous structures(52.6 nm)enabled both low density(1.26 g/cm^(3))and high specific EMI SE>5200 dB/cm^(2)/g,as well as preserved tensile strength of 67 MPa.This study provides a sustainable route to fabricate nature mimicked structures with high performance and high flexibility for a wide range of applications,from portable electronics to healthcare devices.Xun Fan Fengchao Wang Qiang Gao Yu Zhang Fei Huang Ronglin Xiao Jianbin Qin Han Zhang Xuetao Shi Guangcheng Zhang 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,8:2

19Elimination of a Retrotransposon for Quenching Genome Instability in Modern Rice显示文摘Transposable elements(TEs)constitute the most abundant portions of plant genomes and can dramatically shape host genomes during plant evolution.They also play important roles in crop domestication.However,whether TEs themselves are also selected during crop domestication has remained unknown.Here,we identify an active long terminal repeat(LTR)retrotransposon,HUO,as a potential target of selection during rice domestication and breeding.HUO is a low-copy-number LTR retrotransposon,and is active under natural growth conditions and transmitted through male gametogenesis,preferentially inserting into genomic regions capable of transcription.HUO exists in all wild rice accessions and about half of the archaeological rice grains(1200–7000 years ago)and landraces surveyed,but is absent in almost all modern varieties,indicating its gradual elimination during rice domestication and breeding.Further analyses showed that HUO is subjected to strict gene silencing through the RNA-directed DNA methylation pathway.Our results also suggest that multiple HUO copies may trigger genomic instability through altering genome-wide DNA methylation and small RNA biogenesis and changing global gene expression,resulting in decreased disease resistance and yield,coinciding with its elimination during rice breeding.Together,our study suggests that negative selection of an active retrotransposon might be important for genome stability during crop domestication and breeding.Yu Peng Yingying Zhang Yijie Gui Dong An Junzhong Liu Xun Xu Qun Li Junmin Wang Wen Wang Chunhai Shi Longjiang Fan Baorong Lu Yiwen Deng Sheng Teng Zuhua He 2019Molecular Plant2019,12,10:2
