1Antidiabetic Effects of Gegen Qinlian Decoction via the Gut Microbiota Are Attributable to Its Key Ingredient Berberine显示文摘Gegen Qinlian Decoction(GQD),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula,has long been used for the treatment of common metabolic diseases,including type 2 diabetes mellitus.However,the main limitation of its wider application is ingredient complexity of this formula.Thus,it is critically important to identify the major active ingredients of GQD and to illustrate mechanisms underlying its action.Here,we compared the effects of GQD and berberine,a hypothetical key active pharmaceutical ingredient of GQD,on a diabetic rat model by comprehensive analyses of gut microbiota,short-chain fatty acids,proinflammatory cytokines,and ileum transcriptomics.Our results show that berberine and GQD had similar effects on lowering blood glucose levels,modulating gut microbiota,inducing ileal gene expression,as well as relieving systemic and local inflammation.As expected,both berberine and GQD treatment significantly altered the overall gut microbiota structure and enriched many butyrate-producing bacteria,including Faecalibacterium and Roseburia,thereby attenuating intestinal inflammation and lowering glucose.Levels of short-chain fatty acids in rat feces were also significantly elevated after treatment with berberine or GQD.Moreover,concentration of serum proinflammatory cytokines and expression of immune-related genes,including Nfkb1,Stat1,and Ifnrg1,in pancreatic islets were significantly reduced after treatment.Our study demonstrates that the main effects of GQD can be attributed to berberine via modulating gut microbiota.The strategy employed would facilitate further standardization and widespread application of TCM in many diseases.Xizhan Xu Zezheng Gao Fuquan Yang Yingying Yang Liang Chen Lin Han Na Zhao Jiayue Xu Xinmiao Wang Yue Ma Lian Shu Xiaoxi Hu Na Lyu Yuanlong Pan Baoli Zhu Linhua Zhao Xiaolin Tong Jun Wang 2020Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2020,18,6:29
2THE CASE STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF CO_2 IN CAVE ATMOSPHERE ON STABILITY OF SPELEOTHEM SCENERY IN YAOLIN CAVE, ZHEJIANG PROVINCE, CHINA显示文摘Because of the development of tourist activities and the facilities in the show cave, the closed system of show cave has been changed into the complicated open system. The great number of the visitors and the landscape lights give great deal of thermoenergy to the show cave system, especially the high intensive lights make the temperature nearby goes up very fast and reduce the humidity. After the visitors leaving and the lights switching off, the temperature goes down and humidity increases even upto saturation, the condensation taken place. In the dry seasons, the cave humidity is relative low, even down to 40 50 percent. The administrations of show cave rushes the water to clean the touristic trails and keep the high humidity as to protect the cave environment. 4Raman lasing and Fano lineshapes in a packaged fiber-coupled whispering-gallery-mode microresonator显示文摘We report Raman lasing and the optical analog of electromagnetically-induced-transparency(EIT) in a whispering-gallery-mode(WGM) microtoroid resonator embedded in a low refractive index polymer matrix together with a tapered fiber coupler. The microtoroid resonator supports both single mode and multimode Raman lasing with low power thresholds. Observations of Fano and EIT-like phenomena in a packaged microresonator will enable high resolution sensors and can be used in networks where slow-light effect is needed. 8Phylogenomic Insights into Deep Phylogeny of Angiosperms Based on Broad Nuclear Gene Sampling显示文摘Angiosperms(flowering plants)are the most diverse and species-rich group of plants.The vast majority(99.95%)of angiosperms form a clade called Mesangiospermae,which is subdivided into five major groups:eudicots,monocots,magnoliids,Chloranthales,and Ceratophyllales.The relationships among these Mesangiospermae groups have been the subject of long debate.In this study,we assembled a phylogenomic dataset of 1594 genes from 151 angiosperm taxa,including representatives of all five lineages,to investigate the phylogeny of major angiosperm lineages under both coalescent-and concatenationbased methods.We dissected the phylogenetic signal and found that more than half of the genes lack phylogenetic information for the backbone of angiosperm phylogeny.We further removed the genes with weak phylogenetic signal and showed that eudicots,Ceratophyllales,and Chloranthales form a clade,with magnoliids and monocots being the next successive sister lineages.Similar frequencies of gene tree conflict are suggestive of incomplete lineage sorting along the backbone of the angiosperm phylogeny.Our analyses suggest that a fully bifurcating species tree may not be the best way to represent the early radiation of angiosperms.Meanwhile,we inferred that the crown-group angiosperms originated approximately between 255.1 and 222.2 million years ago,and Mesangiospermae diversified into the five extant groups in a short time span(27 million years)at the Early to Late Jurassic.Lingxiao Yang Danyan Su Xin Chang Charles SPFoster Linhua Sun Chien-Hsun Huang Xiaofan Zhou Liping Zeng Hong Ma Bojian Zhong 2020Plant Communications2020,1,2:2

10Reversible adhesion surface coating proppant显示文摘Proppant is a key material in the hydraulic fracturing process,which has been widely used in unconventional oil exploitation.Normal proppants are easy to sedimentate and accumulate at the entrance of shale fracture,which will block the diversion of water,oil and gas.Coated proppants(CPs) are fabricated by coating resin on normal ceramic proppants through a simple method,which is dramatically enhanced the supporting properties in shale fracture and easy to scale up.Compared with uncoated ceramic proppants,the self-suspension ability of CPs is ~11 times higher,which are able to migrate and distribute farther and deeper inside the fracture.At the same time,Coating enhanced the 23.7% of adhesive force in maximum,which makes the CPs easier to adhere on the fracture surface to supportthe shale fracture.Besides,the liquid conductivity of CPs is 60% higher than uncoated ceramic proppants at13.6 MPa pressure.This method is expected to fabricated varieties of proppantsfor shale fracture supporting to improve the exploration of unconventional oil and gas resources.Quan Xu Fan Fan Zhaohui Lu Mao Sheng Shouceng Tian Ye Zhang Linhua Pan Yang Zhou 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,1:2

16Comparison of the In Vitro and In Vivo Toxic Effects of Three Sizes of Zinc Oxide(ZnO)Particles Using Flounder Gill(FG)Cells and Zebrafish Embryos显示文摘Nano-sized zinc oxide(n ZnO) particles are one kind of the most commonly used metal oxide nanoparticles(NPs). This study compared the cytotoxic and embryotoxic effects of three increasing sized ZnO particles(φ30 nm, 80-150 nm and 2 μm) in the flounder gill(FG) cells and zebrafish embryos, and analyzed the contribution of size, agglomeration and released Zn^(2+) to the toxic effects. All the tested ZnO particles were found to be highly toxic to both FG cells and zebrafish embryos. They induced growth inhibition, LDH release, morphological changes and apoptosis in FG cells in a concentration-, size-and time-dependent manner. Moreover, the release of LDH from the exposed FG cells into the medium occurred before the observable morphological changes happened. The ultrasonication treatment and addition of serum favored the dispersion of ZnO particles and alleviated the agglomeration, thus significantly increased the corresponding cytotoxicity. The released Zn^(2+) ions from ZnO particles into the extracellular medium only partially contributed to the cytotoxicity. All the three sizes of ZnO particles tested induced developmental malformations, decrease of hatching rates and lethality in zebrafish embryos, but size-and concentration-dependent toxic effects were not so obvious as in FG cells possibly due to the easy aggregation of ZnO particles in freshwater. 19Localized Electrons Accelerated Ionic and Charge Transfer for Superior Lithium Storage显示文摘The electrochemical energy storage performance is greatly determined by the charge transfer and ion transportation occurring in the electrode materials.Therefore,the enhancement of electric conductivity and ionic mobility is vital for high-performing and stable metal ion batteries.Here,we report the properties of oxygen vacancies(VO)and carbon co-doped TiO_(2) hollow spheres(HS-TiO_(2))and compared them with fully oxidized white TiO_(2) hollow spheres(W-TiO_(2)).Theoretical calculations and experimental results revealed that the introduction of carbon dopant and VO in anatase TiO_(2) reduced the bandgap and the existence of localized electrons,leading to a lower migration barrier of Li ions that promoted faster ion diffusion kinetics,enabling the HS-TiO_(2) with higher reversibility during the insertion and extraction of Li ions than the W-TiO_(2).This HS-TiO_(2) delivered superior lithium storage properties with a specific discharge capacity of 214.6 mAh g^(-1) for the 100th cycle at 200 mA g^(-1) and 116.3 mAh g^(-1) over 2000 cycles at a high rate of 2 A g^(-1).Zhaoqian Li Yingke Ren Wangchao Chen Tingting Wei Lie Mo Yang Huang Hong Zhang Guozhong Cao Linhua Hu 2023Renewables2023,1,5:0
