1Traditional herbal medicine in preventing recurrence after resection of small hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter randomized controlled trial显示文摘BACKGROUND: Disease recurrence is a main challenge in treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). There is no generally accepted method for preventing recurrence of HCC after resection. OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of a traditional herbal medicine (THM) regimen and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in preventing recurrence in post-resection patients with small HCC. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS: This is a multicenter, open-label, randomized, controlled study, which was undertaken in five centers of China. A total of 379 patients who met the eligibility criteria and underwent randomization were enrolled in this trial. One hundred and eighty-eight patients were assigned to the THM group and received Cinobufacini injection and Jiedu Granule, and the other 191 patients were assigned to the TACE group and received one single course of TACE. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary outcome measures were the annual recurrence rate and the time to recurrence. Incidence of adverse events was regarded as the secondary outcome measure. RESULTS: Among the 364 patients who were included in the intention-to-treat analysis, 67 patients of the THM group and 87 of the TACE group had recurrence, with a hazard ratio of 0.695 (P = 0.048). Median recurrence-free survival of the patients in the THM and TACE groups was 46.89 and 34.49 months, respectively. Recurrence rates at 1, 2 and 3 years were 17.7%, 33.0% and 43.5% for the THM group, and 28.8%, 42.5% and 54.0% for the TACE group, respectively (P = 0.026). Multivariate analysis indicated that the THM regimen had a big advantage for prolonging the recurrence-free survival. Adverse events were mild and abnormality of laboratory indices of the two groups were similar. CONCLUSION: In comparison with TACE therapy, the THM regimen was associated with diminished risk of recurrence of small-sized HCC after resection, with comparable adverse events. 2Effect of Boschniakia rossica on expression of GSTP,p53 and p21^(ras)proteins in early stage of chemical hepatocarcinogenesis and its anti-inflammatory activities in rats显示文摘AIM To investigate the effect of Boschniakiarossica(BR)extract on expression of GST-P,p53 and p21rasproteins in early stage of chemicalhepatocarcinogenesis in rats and its anti-inflammatory activities.METHODS The expression of tumor marker-placental form glutathione S-transferase(GST-P),p53 and p21rasproteins were investigated byimmunohistochemical techniques and ABCmethod.Anti-inflammatory activities of BR werestudied by xylene and croton oil-induced mouseear edema,carrageenin,histamine and hotscald-induced rat pow edema,adjuvant-inducedrat arthritis and cotton pellet-induced mousegranuloma formation methods.RESULTS The 500 mg/kg of BR-H2O extractfractionated from BR-Methanol extract hadinhibitory effect on the formation of DEN-inducedGST-P-positive foci in rat liver(GST-P stainingwas 78% positive in DEN+AAF group vs 20%positive in DEN+AAF+BR group,P<0.05)andthe expression of mutant p53 and p21rasproteinwas lower than that of hepatic preneoplasticlesions(33% and 22% positive respectively inDEN+AAF group vs negative in DEN+AAF+BRgroup).Both CH2Cl2 and H2O extracts from BRhad anti-inflamatory effect in xylene and crotonoil-induced mouse ear edema(inhibitory rateswere 26%-29% and 35%-59%,respectively). BR-H2O extract exhibited inhibitory effect incarrageenin,histamine and hot scald-inducedhind paw edema and adjuvant-induced arthritis inrats and cotton pellet-induced granulomaformation in mice.CONCLUSION BR extract exhibited inhibitory effect on formation of preneoplastic hepatic foci in early stage of rat chemical hepato-carcinogenesis. 5In vitro corrosion resistance,antibacterial activity and cytocompatibility of a layer-by-layer assembled DNA coating on magnesium alloy显示文摘A chitosan/deoxyribonucleic acid(CHI/DNA)_(5)coating was constructed by layer-by-layer(LbL)assembly dip coating method with Mg(OH)_(2)coating as an inner protective layer on AZ31 alloy.X-ray diffractometry,X-ray photoelectron spectrometry,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy were utilized to represent the chemical compositions and surface morphologies of the coatings.Electrochemical tests and hydrogen evolution measurements were implemented to confirm the good corrosion resistance of the composite coating in artificial body fluid.Antimicrobial activity of the composite coatings was tested via the plate-counting method,and the cytotoxicity of the samples was appraised by MTT assay and Live/dead staining.A double action was put into effect for the composite coating,which the inner Mg(OH)2 coating plays the part of physical barrier,and the outer(CHI/DNA)5 coating is employed as an inducer to fabricate a biocompatible Ca-P corrosion product coating during immersion,making up for its thin thickness.Otherwise,the composite coating is also beneficial for the growth of bone,resulting from the biomineralization effect of the outer polyelectrolyte multilayer.The good antibacterial property of the(CHI/DNA)5/Mg(OH)2 coating is ascribed to the contact-killing strength of CHI.Thus,the obtained(CHI/DNA)5/Mg(OH)2 coating has a wide application prospect in the field of Mg-based bone implantation.Lan-Yue Cui Ling Gao Jing-Chao Zhang Zhe Tang Xiao-Li Fan Jia-Cheng Liu Dong-Chu Chen Rong-Chang Zeng Shuo-Qi Li Ke-Qian Zhi 2021Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2021,9,1:9

12The predictive value of histological tumor regression grading (TRG) for therapeutic evaluation in locally advanced esophageal carcinoma treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy显示文摘Response criteria remain controversial in therapeutic evaluation for locally advanced esophageal carcinoma treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy.We aimed to identify the predictive value of tumor regression grading(TRG) in tumor response and prognosis.Fifty-two patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by esophagectomy and radical 2-field lymphadenectomy between June 2007 and June 2011 were included in this study.All tissue specimens were reassessed according to the TRG scale.Potential prognostic factors,including clinicopathologic factors,were evaluated.Survival curves were generated by using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with the log-rank test.Prognostic factors were determined with multivariate analysis by using the Cox regression model.Our results showed that of 52 cases,43(83%) were squamous cell carcinoma and 9(17%) were adenocarcinoma.TRG was correlated with pathologic T(P = 0.006) and N(P < 0.001) categories.Median overall survival for the entire cohort was 33 months.The 1-and 2-year overall survival rates were 71% and 44%,respectively.Univariate survival analysis results showed that favorable prognostic factors were histological subtype(P = 0.003),pathologic T category(P = 0.026),pathologic N category(P < 0.001),and TRG G0(P = 0.041).Multivariate analyses identified pathologic N category(P < 0.001) as a significant independent prognostic parameter.Our results indicate that histomorphologic TRG can be considered as an alternative option to predict the therapeutic efficacy and prognostic factor for patients with locally advanced esophageal carcinoma treated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Kang Guo Ling Cai Yu Zhang Jian-Fei Zhu Tie-Hua Rong Peng Lin Chong-Li Hao Wu-Ping Wang Zhe Li Lan-Jun Zhang 2012Chinese Journal of Cancer2012,31,8:3
13Penicillin-resistant characterization of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine mastitis in Gansu,China显示文摘Bovine mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus is difficult to treat because of increasing resistance against antibiotics, especially penicillin. β-Lactamase and biofilm are responsible for penicillin resistance of S. aureus. The aim of this study was to investigate the β-lactamase activity and biofilm formation capacity of 37 penicillin-resistant S. aureus strains(35 were blaZ positive and 2 were blaZ negative) from bovine mastitis in Gansu Province, China, as well as to measure the intercellular adhesion genes icaA and icaD of these strains. β-Lactamase Test Kit was used to determine the β-lactamase activity, biofilm formation was tested by semi-quantitative adherence assay method. Moreover, the presence of icaA and icaD were measured by PCR. A total of 32 penicillin-resistant S. aureus strains, including the two blaZ-negative strains, were identified as β-lactamase producers. All tested S. aureus isolates produced biofilm in the microtiter plate assay. Meanwhile, all these strains were PCR-positive for the ica locus, icaA and icaD. 14Downregulation of ceramide synthase 1 promotes oral cancer through endoplasmic reticulum stress显示文摘C18 ceramide plays an important role in the occurrence and development of oral squamous cell carcinoma.However,the function of ceramide synthase 1,a key enzyme in C18 ceramide synthesis,in oral squamous cell carcinoma is still unclear.The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between ceramide synthase 1 and oral cancer.In this study,we found that the expression of ceramide synthase 1 was downregulated in oral cancer tissues and cell lines.In a mouse oral squamous cell carcinoma model induced by 4-nitroquinolin-1-oxide,ceramide synthase 1 knockout was associated with the severity of oral malignant transformation.Immunohistochemical studies showed significant upregulation of PCNA,MMP2,MMP9,and BCL2 expression and downregulation of BAX expression in the pathological hyperplastic area.In addition,ceramide synthase 1 knockdown promoted cell proliferation,migration,and invasion in vitro.Overexpression of CERS1 obtained the opposite effect.Ceramide synthase 1 knockdown caused endoplasmic reticulum stress and induced the VEGFA upregulation.Activating transcription factor 4 is responsible for ceramide synthase 1 knockdown caused VEGFA transcriptional upregulation.In addition,mild endoplasmic reticulum stress caused by ceramide synthase 1 knockdown could induce cisplatin resistance.Taken together,our study suggests that ceramide synthase 1 is downregulated in oral cancer and promotes the aggressiveness of oral squamous cell carcinoma and chemotherapeutic drug resistance.Wen Chen Chenzhou Wu Yafei Chen Yuhao Guo Ling Qiu Zhe Liu Haibin Sun Siyu Chen Zijian An Zhuoyuan Zhang Yi Li Longjiang Li 2021International Journal of Oral Science2021,13,1:3
15Relationship between epidermal growth factor receptor gene mutation and copy number in Chinese patients with non-small cell lung cancer显示文摘Epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) gene mutation and copy number are useful predictive markers that guide the selection of non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) patients for EGFR-targeting therapy.This study aimed to investigate the correlation between EGFR gene mutation and copy number and clinicopathologic characteristics of Chinese patients with NSCLC.NSCLC specimens collected from 205 patients between November 2009 and January 2011 were selected to detect EGFR gene mutations with real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and to detect EGFR gene copy number with fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH).EGFR mutations primarily occurred in females,non-smokers,and patients with adenocarinomas(all P < 0.001).Tissues from 128(62%) patients were FISH-positive for EGFR,including 37(18%) with gene amplification and 91(44%) with high polysomy.EGFR gene mutation was correlated with FISH-positive status(R = 0.340,P < 0.001).Multivariate analysis showed that not smoking(OR = 5.910,95% CI = 2.363-14.779,P < 0.001) and having adenocarcinoma(OR = 0.122,95% CI = 0.026-0.581,P = 0.008) were favorable factors for EGFR gene mutation.These results show a high frequency of EGFR FISH positivity in NSCLC tissues from Chinese patients and a significant relevance between EGFR gene mutations and FISH-positive status.Among the FISH-positive samples,EGFR gene mutation occurred more frequently in samples with gene amplification compared to those with high polysomy,suggesting that EGFR mutation and gene amplification should be used as clinical decision parameters to predict response to EGFR-targeting therapy.Lan-Jun Zhang Ling Cai Zhe Li Wu-Ping Wang Kang Guo Jian-Yong Shao Jun-Ye Wang Hui Yu Tie-Hua Rong 2012Chinese Journal of Cancer2012,31,10:3
16Integrating morphological spatial pattern analysis and the minimal cumulative resistance model to optimize urban ecological networks: a case study in Shenzhen City, China显示文摘Background:With the increasing fragmentation of landscape induced by rapid urbanization,the construction of ecological networks is of great signifcance to alleviate the degradation of urban habitats and protect natural envi‑ronments.However,there is considerable uncertainty when constructing ecological networks,especially the difer‑ent approaches to selecting ecological sources.We used the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen as a study area to construct and optimize ecological networks using a coupling approach.Ecological source areas were extracted using morphological spatial pattern analysis(MSPA)and the landscape index method.Ecological networks were con‑structed using the minimal cumulative resistance(MCR)model and the gravity model.Stepping stones and ecological fault points were added in corridors to optimize the ecological network.Results:Ten core areas with maximum importance patch values were extracted by the landscape index method as ecological source areas according to MSPA,after which corridors between ecological sources were constructed based on the MCR model.The constructed ecological networks were optimized using 35 stepping stones and 17 ecologi‑cal fault points.The optimized ecological networks included 11 important corridors,34 general corridors,and seven potential corridors.The results of corridor landscape-type analysis showed that a suitable ecological corridor is 60 to 200 m wide.Conclusions:Overall,our results imply that ecological source areas can be identifed virtually,and that ecological networks can be signifcantly optimized by combining MSPA and MCR models.These results provide a methodologi‑cal reference for constructing ecological networks,and they will be useful for urban planning and biodiversity protec‑tion in Shenzhen and other similar regions around the world.Yang‑Yang Li Yu‑Zhe Zhang Zhi‑Yun Jiang Cheng‑Xuan Guo Ming‑Yue Zhao Zhi‑Guang Yang Ming‑Yan Guo Bing‑Yue Wu Quan‑Ling Chen 2021Ecological Processes2021,10,1:3
