| 1 | Propofol Attenuates a-Synuclein Aggregation and Neuronal Damage in a Mouse Model of Ischemic Stroke显示文摘a-Synuclein is a soluble monomer abundant in the central nervous system. Aggregates of a-synuclein,consisting of higher-level oligomers and insoluble fibrils,have been observed in many chronic neurological diseases and are implicated in neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration.a-Synuclein has recently been shown to aggregate following acute ischemic stroke, exacerbating neuronal damage.Propofol is an intravenous anesthetic that is commonly used during intravascular embolectomy following acute ischemic stroke. While propofol has demonstrated neuroprotective properties following brain injury, the mechanism of protection in the setting of ischemic stroke is unclear. In this study, propofol administration significantly reduced the neurotoxic aggregation of a-synuclein, decreased the infarct area, and attenuated the neurological deficits after ischemic stroke in a mouse model. | 2 | Modeling permafrost properties in the Qinghai-Xizang(Tibet) Plateau显示文摘Water and heat dynamics in the active layer at a monitoring site in the Tanggula Mountains, located in the permafrost region of the Qinghai-Xizang(Tibet) Plateau(QXP), were studied using the physical-process-based COUPMODEL model, including the interaction between soil temperature and moisture under freeze-thaw cycles. Meteorological, ground temperature and moisture data from different depths within the active layer were used to calibrate and validate the model. The results indicate that the calibrated model satisfactorily simulates the soil temperatures from the top to the bottom of the soil layers as well as the moisture content of the active layer in permafrost regions. The simulated soil heat flux at depths of 0 to 20 cm was consistent with the monitoring data, and the simulations of the radiation balance components were reasonable. Energy consumed for phase change was estimated from the simulated ice content during the freeze/thaw processes from 2007 to 2008. Using this model, the active layer thickness and the energy consumed for phase change were predicted for future climate warming scenarios. The model predicts an increase of the active layer thickness from the current 330 cm to approximately 350–390 cm as a result of a 1–2°C warming. However, the effect active layer thickness of more precipitation is limited when the precipitation is increased by 20%–50%. | 4 | Efficacy and advantages of modified Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments based on'kidney reinforcing'for chronic aplastic ane-mia:a randomized controlled clinical trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To compare the efficacy of modified treatments based on 'kidney reinforcing' in the management of chronic aplastic anemia(CAA),and explore their advantages and specialties.METHODS:One hundred and eleven patients with CAA were randomly divided into three groups:kidney reinforcing alone(KA),'kidney reinforcing and Qi tonifying'(KQ),and 'kidney reinforcing and blood circulation invigorating'(KC).Normal and positive control groups were also formed.All patients were treated for 6 months(two courses).Hemograms,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) syndrome scores,and therapeutic effects were assessed,and changes in T-lymphocyte subsets,regulatory T cells and cytokines were detected.RESULTS:The KQ and KC groups had lower TCM syndrome scores than the positive control group after 6 months(P < 0.05).The KQ group had a higher overall efficacy than the positive control group after 3 months(P < 0.05),while platelet counts increased in the KC group after 6 months(P < 0.05).CD3+ T-lymphocyte ratios decreased only in the KQ group,while CD3 + CD4 + CD8-Tlymphocytes increased only in the KC group after 6 months(P <0.05).Levels of interferon-γ,tumor necrosis fac-tor-α,interleukin(IL)-2 and IL-6 decreased and levels of IL-4 and IL-10 increased in all treated groups after 6 months.Levels of IL-6 in the KQ and KC groups were lower than those in the positive control group(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION:Treatments based on kidney reinforcing have a rebalancing effect on cytotoxic and T helper cells,and regulate expression of interferon-γ,IL-2,IL-6 and IL-4.KQ may be more effective in treating CAA,and KC may have an advantage in platelet recovery. | Wu Dijiong Shen Yiping Ye Baodong Fang Bingmu Lin Shengyun Chen Zhilu Jiang Huifang Feng Changwei He Lüyuan Gao Yanting Liu Yonglin Liu Yonghua Zhu Jiajia Wu Liqiang Shao Keding Zhou Yuhong | 2016 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,4: | 6 |
| 5 | An analytical model for estimating soil temperature profiles on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China显示文摘Soil temperature is a key variable in the control of underground hydro-thermal processes. To estimate soil temperature more accurately, this study proposed a solution method of the heat conduction equation of soil temperature(improved heat conduction model) by applying boundary conditions that incorporate the annual and diurnal variations of soil surface temperature and the temporal variation of daily temperature amplitude, as well as the temperature difference between two soil layers in the Tanggula observation site of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China. We employed both the improved heat conduction model and the classical heat conduction model to fit soil temperature by using the 5 cm soil layer as the upper boundary for soil depth. The results indicated that the daily soil temperature amplitude can be better described by the sinusoidal function in the improved model, which then yielded more accurate soil temperature simulating effect at the depth of 5 cm. The simulated soil temperature values generated by the improved model and classical heat conduction model were then compared to the observed soil temperature values at different soil depths. Statistical analyses of the root mean square error(RMSE), the normalized standard error(NSEE) and the bias demonstrated that the improved model showed higher accuracy, and the average values of RMSE, bias and NSEE at the soil depth of 10–105 cm were 1.41°C, 1.15°C and 22.40%, respectively. | 6 | Morphological and physiological analysis of narrow and striped leaf 1(nsl1) mutant of rice(Oryza sativa L.) and the gene mapping显示文摘The shape and color of rice leaves are important agronomic traits that directly influence the proportion of sunlight energy utilization and ultimately affect the yield and quality.A new mutant exhibiting stable inheritance was identified as derived from ethyl methane sulfonate(EMS)-treated restorer Jinhui 10,tentatively named as narrow and striped leaf 1(nsl1).The nsl1 displayed pale white leaves at the seeding stage and then white striped leaves in parallel to the main vein at the jointing stage.Meanwhile,its leaf blades are significantly narrower than the control group of Jinhui 10.The chloroplast structures of cells in the white striped area of the nsl1 mutant break down,and the photosynthetic pigments are significantly lower than that of the wild type.Moreover,fluorescence parameters,such as F0,F v/F m,U psII,qp,and ETR,in the nsl1 mutant are significantly lower than those of the wild type,and the photosynthetic efficiency is also significantly decreased.These changes in leaf color and shape,together with physiological changes in the nsl1,result in smaller plant height and a decrease in the most important agronomic traits,such as the number of grains per panicle,grain weight,etc.Genetic analysis shows that the narrow and striped traits of the nsl1 mutant are controlled by a single recessive nuclear gene,which is located between InDel 16and InDel 12 in chromosome 3.The physical distance is204 kb.So far,no similar genes of such leaf color and shape in this area have been reported.This study has laid a solid foundation for the gene cloning and function analysis of NSL1. | Fangming Zhao Yong Zhang Yanru Wu Tongming Wang Ling Ma Zhenglin Yang Xia Wei Xianchun Sang Yinghua Ling Nan Wang Changwei Zhang Guanghua He | 2014 | Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,9: | 3 |

| 8 | Multimorphism and gap opening of charge-density-wave phases in monolayer VTe2显示文摘Vanadium dichalcogenides have attracted increasing interests for the charge density wave phenomena and possible ferromagnetism.Here,we report on the multiphase behavior and gap opening in monolayer VTe2 grown by molecular beam epitaxy.Scanning tunneling microscopy(STM)and spectroscopy study revealed the(4×4)metallic and gapped(2√3×2√3)charge-density wave(CDW)phases with an energy gap of≈40 meV.Through the in-plane condensation of vanadium atoms,the typical star-of-David clusters and truncated triangle-shaped clusters are formed in the(4×4)and(2√3×2√3)phases respectively,resulting in different surface morphologies and electronic structures as confirmed by density functional theory(DFT)calculations with on-site Coulomb repulsion.The CDW-driven reorganization of the atomic structure weakens the ferromagnetic superexchange coupling and strengthens the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling on the contrary,suppressing the long-range magnetic order in monolayer VTe2.The electron correlation is found to be important to explain the gap opening in the(2√3×2√3)phase. | Meizhuang Liu Changwei Wu Zizhao Liu Zhiqiang Wang Dao-Xin Yao Dingyong Zhong | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,6: | 2 |
